I've been here about 2 times before and I got my hair done by the owner and I loved it. I was trying to start my locs again so I came here again. This time it was someone other than the owner. I wanted fat single strand twists to start off my locs. The stylists acted like she knew what she was doing. I asked her before hand on phone do she know how to make fat twists. She wasn't honest at all. You try to support. Long story short she twisted my hair into fat twists with funny parts. Some of the twists were fatter than the others. They were uneven. Some were fat in the middle but thin at the end. It looked funny. I didn't complain though. I just was happy i didn't have to maintain my afro any more. I left and went to the store..I noticed my twists were coming apart less than a hour after finishing them. I came back to the shop and the stylists twisted them up again. I got home and realized how sloppy the twists were and became upset. Even my mother was like " I coulda did your hair better." I wasted $65 because the stylists acted like she knew what she was doing. Now I have to pay $65 sooner than I thought to get my hair twisted. The staff is funny but I will not recommend Beauty on De bayou to anyone. You try to support your people and this is how they do you. I used to speak highly of this company. Never again.

I was referred to the owner Ms. Dwana at Beauty on da Bayou for a Sisterlocks retightening. Dwana assured me that she was experienced in Sisterlocks and “would not mess up” my hair. Initially after leaving the shop it seemed that everything was fine. Within two weeks and as my hair started to grow in, i had a disaster on my hands. Dwana had attached so many strands from neighboring locs into each other that 40% of my locs could not be pulled apart. I’ve had Sisterlocks for 3 years and in all my retightenings, I have never seen a mess like this. Clearly she was not honest about her experience doing Sisterlocks nor was she willing to offer any kind of reimbursement, as I am now forced to pay someone else to repair her awful work. The best that she found to do was to refer me to someone else she knows who does Sisterlocks. I wonder why she didn’t refer me to that person in the first place!?! There is no way that I would ever trust the knowledge base and experience of these stylists because clearly they are not being honest about what they can and cannot do which is the most basic tenet of professionalism.

My overall experience was ok. However there were two things that occurred that I did not feel comfortable with. But i rather just speak on one. Dwana was my stylist and towards the end she asked to take pictures of my hair. I said ok, "just don't take pictures of my face", so i covered my face. She responds, "because of your nose?" Really! !!!!!!! That put me over the edge, I remained silent. The young lady Morgan asked if I told her something about my nose. Dwana replies, "no, she covered her face so I asked." That's very distasteful and highly unprofessional! I will not return. Please check yourself!

I came here from out of town. I see good reviews from this place and thought I should give it a shot. I received Senegalese twists from here and 6 days later, one of my friends told me that "whoever did your braids did NOT do a good job grl", "It look like you tried to do the braids yourself", "I never seen your braids look like this before". So basically I paid $180 for amateur work, that now looks like I had my braids in for over a month. I will never recommend this place to anybody

I know this review is for an older experience, but I came to this shop about 3 years ago for my big chop. I absolutely loved it. The stylists were so pleasant and the atmosphere was really chill. I enjoyed my experience and I loved my big chop! The stylist, Keneisha (spell check) isn't there anymore, but she made my big chop experience perfect! . I'll be back next week for a trim ladies! BEST NATURAL HAIR SALON I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED!

been going to beauty on de bayou for a couple years on and off. i try other places but beauty on de bayou always calls me back...my hair looks great, their hair care knowledge, experience, and information are second to none, and my spirit is refreshed! Dwana is my favorite, Lizzie is a sweetie, but please know you cannot go wrong with any of the stylists. Do yourself, your hair, and your spirit a favor...GO!

Being that i am very picky about my hair, I must say I was impressed. The stylist and clients were all so welcoming and professional that it almost made me forget it was my first time there. Ms. Dwanna did a marvelous job walking me through her process in regards to cutting my hair and was very swift with her styling. Needless to say, I will be back very soon!

Dwana saved me from a hair nightmare I experienced at another salon. The environment is professional and peaceful. I appreciate her expertise in how to care for natural hair. My hair is always beautiful when I leave. I recommend this salon to anyone who wants to take good care of what God gave them without all of the drama. Thanks Dwana.

Miss Dawana is awesome! She is so sweet and I love how detailed and quick she is with her work. I left with very neat corn rows for a more than reasonable price. I had a very pleasant experience in her chair and will definitely be back soon!

Morgan is the BEST!! I called her yesterday around 1pm & received same day service. I was always told that your first impression should be your best and I must say Morgan did just that. Thanks MORGAN and I will be back..

Dwana took the time to explain the different types loc processes to me and help me figure out what "journey" to take. She is always smiling and available to answer questions. I don't trust anyone else with my locs!

Hard to get them to reply , did my hair once messed it up and they refuse to message me back knowing it’s me , all I wanted was to get my dreads right paid for them and all and still can’t get any respond ,

Personable. efficient and quick, considering it takes three times as long to get loc maintenance in New Jersey. Dwana does EXCELLENT work and is a genuine lovely knowledeable person.
