My favourite book store in Toronto with everything from unique titles to best sellers, cookbooks, coffee table books. Call or email to ask about a book you can’t find elsewhere and they can order it in. Check online for events with local authors or sign up for their newsletter which always includes staff book recommendations. The window displays and tables are curated thoughtfully with books sharing a similar theme which makes shopping here so much more enjoyable than scrolling through titles online. You will always find interesting books you haven’t seen before and support a locally run shop in the process.

This is a jem in the Financial district. You are surrounded by books as soon as you walk into the store. Ben McNally's has a great collection of the latest books, as well many that are hard to find. Not to mention a variety of subjects. Also, you can go on their website and ask if they have a certain book, if not they might offer to order it for you (something they did for me, the book arrived in less than two weeks). The staff is friendly, professional and they are more than happy to make recommendations. There are couches to sit and the bookstore is peaceful.

Visited the Ben McNally Book store early November, 2017. On this date, an author, Barb Stuhlemmer was having a book signing event and informal discussion with a number of attendees for the book, ".Entrepreneur Awakening: Making the Move from Employee to Business Owner". Ben McNally is a wonderful book store, well maintained in best sellers, local authors, and some titles which I had not seen available in the chain bookstores. No doubt to me, my favourite book store in Toronto.

I cannot imagine life without Ben McNally Books! I don't want my reading limited to what Amazon thinks I should read; I want to find out about all the other books out there! I am book-omnivorous, I like to read anything and everything non-fiction: geological, historical, political, and anything else that I find appealing. They've moved to King East, in a more compact location, but the variety is still there! The 504 streetcar will get you there! It is worth the journey!

It's rare now to have a local independent bookstore so I try to buy most of my books here. They have a great range on non fiction and fiction. It can be a little hard to navigate the different sections, so if you're looking for something specific you might have to ask for help. I love coming in to browse and I almost always find something so special to take home.

Almost no one has been left standing among Toronto's bookstores - almost all of the good ones are gone. McNally's is not very large, it has an odd location on Bay Street - but its by far the best bookstore left in this city - an excellent selection of the best of modern fiction and non-fiction, beautifully curated. If you love writing, this place is a must.

  • Imran Ansari

One of my favorite independent bookstores in Toronto! It's modern but has a quaint vibe, and a great selection of new and classic books. The staff are always friendly and helpful and they do a great job of curating themed selections frequently, so I've always got an excuse to drop in and see what's new and exciting. Absolutely love this place.

  • Alessandra Possamai

A local independent bookstore with the best curation of books I’ve ever seen. You’ll find a unique selection of fiction & non-fiction titles, from niche cookbooks to Anthony Bourdain’s world travels to intriguing titles like “The Secret Life of Groceries”. Great location & an essential visit for any book lover or passerby through Corktown!

  • Pierre-Olivier Barbier

On the surface, a potentially handsome place in a great location downtown, but surprisingly uncurated, quite unfriendly (gloomy light at the entrance) with few books and an erratic selection. Staff indifferent. Trying to be a Daunt (London) or galignani (paris). It's rare to go out from a book shop without wanting to read...

  • Sarah Pinach

Exceptionally well curated book selection that sets them apart from other indie shops (though if you need something specific they will order it in). If you are tired of seeing the same 12 booktok recommendations definitely check them out or follow their instagram. Excited to see the new storefront when it opens.

  • Ada Du

Discovered during the pandemic while I was at home and in need of some books to pass the time. Sent an email to them and they helped me order the books I was looking for. The entire process was easy and Danielle was extremely nice and patient! Hopefully I can visit the store one day! Thank you :)

  • Andrew Zimbel

Ben McNally Books is a wonderful place where books are king. Ben has never steered me wrong with his recommendations. A great bookstore. Their new location is in the coolest spot. There are amazing cafes and back shops right beside the store and a cute park across the street.

  • Ferhan Siddiqui

Great environment with helpful staff. There's a strong chance that the books carried in this store can be found cheaper on Amazon/BookOutlet, though I'd urge everyone to spend a few dollars more and support this store along with other small businesses in the community.

  • Ken Harvey

I love this bookstore. It always seems to have just what I want, even if I didn't know what I wanted walking in. The atmosphere is conducive to taking your time and luxuriating in the beauty of books. We need to support these independent bookstore now more than ever.

  • Michael Vansteenkiste

Ben McNally books is my go-to book store for ordering books that can't be found at my local library. The staff is very kind and quick to help. In my experience they have beat Amazon's pricing for new releases. I would highly recommend Ben McNally books.

  • Angela L

Highly recommend this book store! Their collection is incredibly curated and not just the typical booktok books you’ll see in other book stores. I’ve picked up a few books from here and they’ve all been very interesting and unique.

  • Debra Dearlove

Without any doubt, the best bookstore for new books in the city. If they don't have it, they will order if for you. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. So glad we still have such a great independent shop in Toronto.

  • AP B

Amazing selection, adorable place, great attention by staff. They most definitely bring back the joy for bookstores, I needed a recommendation for my 13yo and I would have not bought what they recommended, which was just perfect

  • Lindsay

Ben is such a kind soul! He had awesome recommendations for psychology books, as well as some educational yet entertaining suggestions for the little ones. Such a quaint little store & would love to return some day.

  • Anne Hardy

Excellent selection in a beautiful space. The staff are helpful and kind. Why waste your time going to Indigo and wait in 15 person line when you could go to Ben McNally and speak to people who love books.

  • Johnathan Pholsena

Went in for a talk by Ausma Khan, a Canadian author. The book store was much more elegant than Chapters with interesting picks available. Events for bookworms can also be found at the checkout counter!

  • Jamie Weiss

Visited here a few weeks ago and got some excellent recommendations for literary fiction by Canadian authors that we wouldn't see in bookstores in the States. Highly recommended if you're in Toronto.

  • Jaeok Kim

Staff is not helpful. Old male caucasian cashier, please don't ignore customer even if you don't have the book that he or she is looking for. That is not a good attitude. You can be more kind.

  • Alexandru Trif

Very nice selection of books. Quality is favoring the quantity and there are no discounts. It is a nice quiet environment and you can quietly look on the books nicely displayed.

  • Mark Beach

Visted Toronto last week and found this place while on the way to the Eaton Centre. It is amazing inside. Floor to ceiling book shelves with a great selection of books.

  • Tate Brombal

A beautiful bookstore. If you love books, you must pay a visit. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. They also have the prettiest editions of books! Great for gifts.

  • Julia Ciriello

Absolutely beautiful, in the heart of the financial district. Stepping inside is a great way to transport yourself out of the busyness of the traffic outside.

  • Eric Murphy

This space is absolutely gorgeous inside, and beautifully organized. The history section is great and just looking around the store is always a real treat.

  • Greg Dwulit

Amazing book store. Lots of intellectual books. Every time I walk in a find something I want to read. It's almost impossible to browse anything on amazon.

  • Ihor Prociuk

While the collection is not huge, it is well curated. I mean, where else could you find a pictorial book on Soviet Bus Shelters - - in two volumes! LOL

  • Matt Berno

Great selection of books and beautiful space, but there was nowhere to sit so you could read for a bit and the staff didn't even appear to notice us

  • Denise Wright-Ianni, CPA, CGA

Really great selection. It would be great if staff came out from behind the counter to find out what they can help with.... Otherwise, nice shop.

  • Emily

Beautiful store that is stunningly quiet. The staff are friendly and let you browse or read in peace until you're ready to buy. Fantastic place!

  • David Garland

This is a bibliophile's bookstore, not a coffee shop with reading enhancements. A warm, reflective atmosphere in which to soak up new stories.

  • Pauline

Extremely well curated, and so for more than a few categories (science, economics, novels, society,...). It was hard to pick only a few books!

  • David Silverberg

Their online ordering and delivery service is top-notch, and I think they are truly one of the bookstore gems in the city. Highly recommended!

  • Michael Stokes

I really like independent bookstores and this one is no exception. Very pleasant atmosphere in which to browse and a wide selection of books.

  • Robert “Robbie” Walker

  • Vladimir Adamec

Very good selection of books, but for a small independent bookstore I would expect bit more of a "personal" touch.

  • Mikel Martin

Quaint vibe with good selection of books. Staff is helpful via email with inquiries but not the warmest in person.

  • Leopold Kowolik

Such a good bookstore. If all the alternatives to Amazon were this awesome, the world would be a better place.
