Table booked for 6pm so my son could go out with friends after. Got the worst table in the restaurant but was moved to a nice table. Didn't get the main course till nearly 8 pm. The lamb at $110 was 3 lamb chops but was so so salty I couldn't taste the lamb and that was without te extra salt they put on the side. The steak apparently was the same as well. Whoever was on salt duty totally overdid it and ruined the food. The potatoes were just warm. Son went to order his birthday dessert and got recommended to change to the Rum Baba as it was special done at the table, would all be in flames etc so he went for it. This dessert is basically a plain muffin with some rum sauce thrown over that had a short flame with cream them put on top. In a waiter's words its very underwhelming isn't it ! Restaurant itself is beautiful and a great location and views.

We celebrated a birthday as a family here and the atmosphere is lively, jazzy and very welcoming. All of the entrées and mains were great but none were particularly outstanding. The steak tartare and bread with oil were a little flavourless and disappointing. The chips, steak and lamb pasta were my favourites. The service here was the best aspect; they are kind, attentive and very efficient. The food does take a while to come out, we waited a whole for our food to come out and sat for about 3.5 hours for our family dinner. I would definitely visit again for a more casual occasion for Bert's amazing atmosphere and service!

Very luxurious spot for lunch by the water. The staff were hospitable and friendly. The ambience of the restaurant is like its sister restaurant Mimi’s with perhaps a more old-world dining feel. The food was solid. Their seafood in particular is exceptionally high quality. At $16 per prawn though, I wish they de-veined it. The dishes weren’t particularly imaginative for the prices they’re charging, but decent flavours. Desserts were so-so. Overall a lovely location to dine, but make sure you bring $$$ if you want to have a full experience.

Bert's is high end dining in a relaxed atmosphere. Because there were 11 of us we were offered a choice of the two banquet menus. We opted for the $149 pp menu. It went for nearly 4 hours and was extraordinary in it's quality, quantity, presentation and value. Unless you are training for a competitive food eating, stick to the lower priced banquet. It is fantastic. The service was excellent, friendly and attentive with wait staff serving with the precision of a military tattoo. I did not take any photos as I was to busy enjoying myself. The last comment is a bit OCD, but I was curious to see the ceilings of this beautifully appointed establishment are completely devoid of the usual ramshackle of sprinklers, smoke sensors and other protrusions. Somehow the designers have hidden them. I know... OCD. Highly recommended.

What a delight it was to dine at Bert’s Bar and Brasserie. As the maître d’ directed us to our table it was difficult to not be distracted by the luxurious decor and the sun drenched windows overlooking Pittwater. You must try the anchovies. They are swimming in the most delicious olive oil and served with fried bread (phenomenal!) - it was easily my favourite dish. And don’t forget to eat the bones as they are a super crunchy treat! Other faves had to be the Wagyu skirt steak, squid ink spaghetti, roasted Jerusalem artichokes (yum!) and Dutch cream potatoes. No boring sides here! Every dish is seasoned beautifully and plated to perfection. Bert’s completely exceeded my expectations and I cannot wait to come back for more.

  • Norrelle Goldring

High quality ingredients, attentive staff who aren't up themselves, good to great quality dishes ... but not particularly inventive, and quite expensive for what it is (And I eat in hatted restaurants reasonably frequently so have a good base for comparison). Requires serious $, probably more than you expect, and you are likely to be seated in the interior with no view, or a view of the kitchen. Window rooms in the 'lounge' overlooking the rest of the venue (with water glimpses) are reserved for when they move you there to sell you dessert, cocktails, coffee, more drinks ... subtle but smart. Do this venue every once in a while for special-ish occasions.

Took my mum here for something special with family for her birthday and definitely did not disappoint. Our waiter Tim offered flawless service, was so lovely and had exceptional knowledge. We ordered oysters to start which are labeled by region - lovely touch, followed by perhaps my favourite dish the anchovies in lemon pepper oil, served with fried bread - an absolute must! The crab linguine was just the right amount of indulgent , whilst the whole John Dory we chose for mains added the perfect amount of theatre to the meal (as it is filleted upon a trolly brought to your table). A chocolate tart to finish completed the absolute perfect lunch. Thanks for making my family feel so looked after.

  • Pierre-Yves Pointereau

Incredible experience. Everything was perfect. We got advised to take the pipis, and boy it was good, the sauce is great, order some bread to finish it! Also got the wagyu beef, trusted the chef on the cooking, and spot on, delicious. The service was great, little conversation, not too much, very attentive to our needs or requests. Decoration reminded me of an old Parisian brasserie, neatly suited waiters and bartenders, lovely lounge area (come a few minutes before your reservation to enjoy a drink there). Only disappointment was the sommelier, which was like a ghost, hard to get a word from the guy, he seemed.. elsewhere.. hope he's ok

  • Aaliyah Atlas

Another great venue under Merivale group, similar to the newly opened Mimi’s at Coogee beach. Service is also quite professional. Overall atmosphere is 5 out of 5. Food wise, the quality is definitely good, pasta and eye filet is a must try. Other ones a bit average. Noticed that there are a lot of seafood options, maybe you can try seafood combinations. Dessert is a bit disappointing (sorry to say so but I am a dessert person), rum baba got too much wine taste while the cake itself is too sweet other than other tastes. Pavlova is fresh but not fluffy enough to have that complex texture. Great for dating and special event overall.

What can i say about Bert’s? The food was just AMAZING, from the bread to the dessert. Honestly even the french fries were the best i ever had. The service was polite, elegant and attentive. I couldn’t spot anything wrong. Location is perfect. The price makes it an “occasion only” restaurant as be ready to spend $$$$. Good job Bert’s staff! I will be back and i’ll be in the area.

We’ve been here a handful of times to celebrate birthdays or big milestones and each time it’s a fabulous experience. The interior design, the ambient music, the excellent service particularly catering towards families with kids, everything is always top notch. We tried the crab today and it was really nice eating it chilled. The prices are of course what you would expect - $500 for the two of us excluding wine but you get what you pay with the likes of caviar and Dom. It’s a wonderful place to spoil yourself now and then.

Fantastic place, amazing food and great atmosphere. The staff are very attentive and really accommodating, I had the Strozzapreti with kangaroo, such an amazing deep rich flavour. Ask for some bread, the sauce must not go to waste!! Would go back for just this! My wife ordered the oysters she said they were some of the best she has had so if you eat oysters i wouldn't go past them! We also had pipis, full of flavour and a very generous serving, definitely not for one person. Would highly recommend, and will definitely be back!

Either it is a date or a family/friends moment, Bert's is the right place to enjoy a nice drink and some great food. I spent a night with my dad, his first time in Australia, we had a wrong start with one of the lady at the entrance by not being very friendly, However, Oliver one of the manager took over for the whole service and he managed to make our night amazing, we had such an awesome time. If you go, try to have Oliver to look after your table. Nice starters with Bollinger Special Cuvee Champagne Bottle The rest of the team was really nice too. Thank you to the whole team.

Bert’s Newport, for a very special occasion my partners 60th Birthday, party of 11. I chose the sharing menu, food was incredible, the flavours and presentation of each dish didn’t disappoint. With an abundance of food for our gourmet foodies and the matching selected wines. The professional attentive wait staff and Carl the Restaurant Manager made our night even more special to personally overseeing our night ran smoothly. Thank you Carl, Inga and the team making our special event memorable ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Divine! We had a team lunch in that exquisite restaurant. Food was delicate with a ballet of different dishes, each being a delight for the taste buds. I had a lovely non alcoholic cocktail which was an invite to travel, or to chill. The Garden. Service was the next level. French heritage of savoir faire. I was fascinated by the discretion of the waiters, their professionalism and expertise. Blend of class and respect. The decor and aesthetic makes you feel in an other century with a beautiful savoir vivre and art de la table. Thank you for making this experience so special.

So good we’ll keep on going back. Fine dining at its best. Food is exquisite, atmosphere is electric and service is the best. You would want to order everything. No matter what it is, is bound to be good. This is our second visit. Both for special occasions, my birthday.

Like they had never closed! Thank you to the whole team for looking after us now that we are out of lockdown. Yet again a brilliant long lunch of wonderful food and and fantastic, attentive & knowledgeable staff in a beautiful setting. The hand picked mud crab was the standout for us and the caviar bumps are a great way to start. Probably our favourite overall restaurant experience in Sydney. Will be back whenever we can - definitely need to book the Mirage motel next door whenever you come unless you live close by - too far to taxi home!

  • Claudia Chenaux

Swanning into this venue couldn’t have felt more heavenly. Art deco glam meets modern chic with a tropical old world charm vibe. Designers nailed it. Having lived away from Sydney for over a decade, returning to this venue since the refurb took my breath away. Service was on point, wait staff exceptional and the cocktails so delish I literally wanted to order a bath of them and drink every last drop. Best night out in years and I’ll be proud to be calling this my local. Totally lit.

  • Steven Grinceri

Over priced and badly executed food.. if you like your food drowning in good quality olive oil this is the place.. steak was cooked well just downed in olive oil after.. creamy potato's were far from it no cream in sight just the good ol olive oil again..the kangaroo pasta was far too salty clearly the chef salted it then added the parmesan which is a very salty cheese.. clearly has no clue how to balance a dish. made my cheeks quench.. oysters were great though..

  • Grace Park

Beautifully decorated space with a nice vibe however food was sub par at best, especially considering the exorbitant price. The waiters were very attentive and friendly however I would like to comment on the unpleasant mannerism of the manager who I overheard trying to push his staff to make my group buy more drinks. Not very subtle at all and as a customer, really dampened the experience. Overall a very disappointing experience.

  • Stephen Z

Great atmosphere. Staff are very attentive. Entrees and dessert were amazing that outshined the main. The soufflè was perfectly done. Fluffy texture with balanced flavor from mango and coconut ice cream. Main dishes were disappointing for that price tag. My kingfish was also overcoked. This could be a great spot for weekend brunch. Just go for the drinks, small share plates and dessert but avoid main courses.

  • Aurora Henke

My family and I went to Berts for celebratory cocktails. I didn’t see a cocktail on the menu that I REALLY loved so I asked the waiter what I was after (using a variety of adjectives haha). Without hesitation he went and made the most fantastic cocktail with everything I asked for. It truly was 10/10.

Beautiful setting great service and wonderful food. Wary of Merivale restaurants cause of the lousy service but this one is good! Had the special which was uni with toasted brioche chicken butter - delicious. Also John Dory perfectly cooked with hollandaise, steak tartar, spanner crab pasta, lobster pasta all delicious. Must have the brussel sprouts too! All delicious. Leave room for dessert too!

A wonderful lunch at Bert's with our two daughters. Casual but very professional service. Our lovely server helped us decide how many courses to order to share. The maitre d' expertly filleted our fish at the table and later flamed a beautiful rum Baba. Pure theatre. Excellent cooking from open kitchen. Loved it all. Highly recommended.

The service here was absolutely flawless. For a restaurant of such high calibre the staff we dealt with were extremely grounded and made us feel very comfortable. They were happy to explain anything we were unsure of. The food was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. The environment was welcoming and the night was brilliant overall. Thank you for the experience.

Service and atmosphere were good as were entrees; but a 35 minute wait for the prix fixe mains (on a not too busy Friday) which were then overcooked, was underwhelming particularly given the premium prices.

Location, the view and the staff are on point! The food was pretty good if you're a fan of subtle yet delightful flavours. The only set back was that the staff communication let us down, as we asked for the leftovers to be pushed for takeaway, which they misunderstood.

What a beautiful place for a satisfying lunch or dinner! We had some fresh oysters to begin with, pipis with fried breads the next, then rib eye steak with crispy brussels sprout & baked chilli as sides. I would def include pipis/fried breads and the crispy brussel sprouts again next time we dine here.

  • R Y

We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our server was so friendly and cheerful. The steak was cooked to perfection. But what stood out among all the dishes we had was the Hapuka vol au vent. Fish was moist, well seasoned, and the other elements on the plate just complement each other.

  • Caroline Nguyen

Easily the best meal I had in 2018! We ordered the prawns, ravioli and the lamb - so delicious! Our waiter was exceptional and we ordered everything he recommended - so glad we did. Arnold's service to us is what helped shape our night to be an unforgettable dining experience. Thank you Arnold!!

Wow just wow, each dish is so tasty and the service here is just impeccable. Great place for locals but totally worth the drive if you’re not from the northern beaches as you’ll be impressed. The hand picked mud crab was a standout! Can’t wait to try more dishes, will be coming back for sure.

Love Bert's, a real highlight of the northern beaches food scene. We can never go past the amazing steak and great pasta when we dine out. Selection of seafood and oysters is always second to none and the uni special on our last visit was a read highlight.

Bert’s is now well established. They are back in the swing of things post COVID lockdowns. We have a beautiful lunch with a selection of dishes from their menu. The portion sizes are quite large with the 500g steak coming with two sides. Worth a visit!

The venue is beautiful but the food is terrible. In particular the rib-eye steak was tasteless and not cooked properly and most of the other dishes were loaded with olive oil and salt for flavour (not in a good way). We didn’t stay for dessert. More

First time checking our Bert's. On arrival the restaurant is stunning. The decor and ambience is what you come to expect of merivale. Was chic but relaxed. The food was good, drinks menu had a lot of choice, service attentive but the best

  • Katie

Definitely not fine dining. Food and setting great as always however I feel that service/staff was lacking. Having hostesses dressed in minimal clothing with everything on show (bellies, nipples, tattoos) is not a great first impression.

Claims to be THE prestige dining location on the Northern Beaches but it's far from. My group and I waited for TWO HOURS for our dinner to arrive (it never did). The wait staff were inept, they continued to take drinks orders and supply

Good quality and good value for money if you go for the small tasting menu. Only question mark is around sustainability: do we really have to serve oysters from WA if there are perfectly fine oysters in the area?
