"I really wanted to love Bipartisan (it’s in a great location, a lot of effort has been put into its design, the menu has a good variety of options, and it’s open an hour before most other cafes which is fantastic when you want to get up and at ‘em in the morning) however I’m sorry to report that I left underwhelmed with my experience there today"
"First time and gotta say I like what is going on inside and the outside is nice also"
"A wonderful coffee and breakfast place! Offering quiche, a variety of bagels and sandwiches as well as pastries"
"A nice spacious place to chill with excellent coffee! I always enjoy coming here for coffee"
"Key lime pie is phenomenal! Apple pie was just ok as it was very dry"
I really wanted to love Bipartisan (it’s in a great location, a lot of effort has been put into its design, the menu has a good variety of options, and it’s open an hour before most other cafes which is fantastic when you want to get up and at ‘em in the morning) however I’m sorry to report that I left underwhelmed with my experience there today. Perhaps this visit was an anomaly so in the spirit of fairness, I have laid out the pros and cons below. Pros: - open early on a weekend - great outdoor seating on the street nearby - good menu options - one of the staff members was incredibly helpful when it came to a dietary concern- I so appreciate this. - good range of menu options - the gluten free deli sandwich was very good (hard to accomplish on gf bread) - they have a curbside window for pandemic precaution food pick up Cons: - the food took forever to arrive (we were there early in the morning so perhaps they were still getting ready for the day) - they mixed up two of our orders which was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing discovery at the top of our hike some hours later when we stopped for lunch - two of the servers (not the server who helped with my dietary concern) really weren’t very attentive. This is fine early on a Sunday morning when someone is tired and just trying to do their job, I get that- I don’t expect you to be best friends with me- but they could have made the effort to make sure our order was correct (two people across two different orders received the wrong item), I wouldn’t bother mentioning this if our order had been correct. The pros were on point however the cons made me consider whether I would visit again rather than go to another nearby cafe so 3 stars felt fair.
First time and gotta say I like what is going on inside and the outside is nice also. A lot to choose from on the menu for drinks and eats. Only reason the food is getting 4stars is due to my issue of not liking the pumpkin spice latte I got. Not saying that the rest also tastes bad but this really tasted bad and want to make sure it's only about the drink I chose to order. And no I did not finish it. Better luck next time.

Not much along the main street due to all the other businesses and so you have to venture into the neighborhood.
Kid-friendliness
From what I saw this would not be a place to come and stay with a child but good options to order for a kid and sitting outside with a kid would probably be more enjoyable so the kid can run around in the street that is cordoned off as long as it's not raining.

A nice spacious place to chill with excellent coffee! I always enjoy coming here for coffee. The space is very warm and inviting. The pastries are always nice and the coffee is very well made. A great place to gather with friends or have a meeting. Also a good space for relaxing or studying. I recommend them.

Key lime pie is phenomenal! Apple pie was just ok as it was very dry. The pies are very overpriced as well. We tried the banana bread and it was absolutely disgusting. It was like mushy, salted flour. Also, they have a walk up window which is pointless. I called ahead for my order so I did not have to go inside. Once I got there, I went to the curbside pickup window, waited in line and when I was finally up, they told me that I had to go around to the front to come inside to pay. That totally defeats the purpose of “curbside pickup”. So, I had to wait in the long line inside of the bakery as well as the one outside, pay for my order and then wait outside again for the order to be ready and for me to pickup. Terrible process.
This place has such good pie. Everything else about it is cool. The vibe is very friendly and fun, I've never had a drink there that I didn't like, the prices are comparable to any similar establishment. But the pie... I'm a pretty big pie fan to begin with, but I want to marry this pie and have its babies. I don't even know which kind, because every kind that I've had there has been phenomenal. But if I had to go pie monogamous it would be with the marionberry, for sure. They're matcha latte is also very good, but it is less sweet than a lot of other places. If that is your jam I would absolutely recommend checking that out as well.

This is a great cafe to get some work done, or to meet up with a friend. A good variety of pastry and beverage options, and lots of tables. Outlets could be a little hard to find, and it was bustling, so a couple times over a few hours there was no more seating available. Loved the vegetarian quiche, and appreciated that they have year-round lavender syrup for drinks!

This coffee shop feels like a very beloved local gem. Lots of vegan options, lots of customers. Quirky interior design, and people going there for all sorts of things - job interviews, dates, work meetings, etc. The staff are nice, the food is decent. My one big gripe with this shop is that the tabletops and the floor, in particular, are VERY dirty. Like almost shockingly dirty. And there are about 5 people working behind the counter at the same time. I often think to myself, "can one of you guys just go around and sweep? Can I grab the broom and sweep for you??" It makes me wonder if it is very dirty behind the counter? I hope not though, because I do genuinely like this shop.
I didn't know I liked cappuccinos until I had one here. Thank you. Charming neighborhood cafe with tasty pies. I enjoyed my visit. I also need 200 words to pad my Google review numbers, so consider everything after this as filler. Filler, like warm feeling you get after splitting a slice of pie and gourmet tasting coffee with your gal. Enjoying the sidewalk sun at a bistro table watching this slice of Portland walk by. The ambient conversation of neighboring bars reassuring as dusk stretches ahead and the evening ahead hangs ripe with potential. Street parking available.
Was desperate for a birthday Coconut Cream Pie, it’s her favorite. I took a chance on this pie and OMG. This pie was quite possibly the best Coconut Cream Pie we have ever had. She is a connoisseur and she gave it an A+++. The pie was rich and creamy with the perfect coconut flavor and the crust reminded me of the consistency of that of a cream puff. It’s was light, the texture was perfect, and it was delicious. We will be trying the banana cream and chocolate peanut butter cream pies next. This pie was worth every penny. Highly recommended!!!
A neighborhood staple , they serve up hot, and ready-to-eat items, great coffee and teas. Their baked goods are incredible. They're famous for the pies.

I love that the block is blocked off to cars. What was just a few parking spaces before is now a quiet, clean, open space for people to enjoy. No exhaust fumes, no noise, and a much better experience for people. The coffee and grub here is great as well. I hope you decide to keep the block blocked off to cars, as it brings in much more foot traffic, and people much more enjoy places built for people, instead of places built for cars.

Used to be a great place we frequented often. I’ve lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and have recently decided to give up hope of this old favorite spot making a positive change (and I’ve been hoping for several years, now). I’m sure the pie will remain delicious as will some of the other menu staples. But the atmosphere and service sours the food. A visit today feels angry, noisy, and weirdly snobby (for what, I don’t know). Sorry, old friend. You lost our loyalty.
Great food and vibe!! Without a doubt, Bipartisan Cafe makes the best pies in the Portland area! They have so many daily pie options in fruit, cream (made with homemade whipped cream), vegan, and gluten-free! As I find it difficult to narrow my choice down past fruit or cream, I just get one of each✌ I live in inner SE, and i think it’s totally well worth my making the occasional special trip to get the hook-up!
A really neat little cafe with a unique ambiance. The various political posters and propaganda are pretty random and seem to be plastered about with no real pattern but that's what makes it fun. They make a great cup of coffee and the open-faced cheese sandwich I had was quite good for its single digit price tag. My spouse had the salmon-lox which she quite enjoyed. Next time I'm in montavilla I'm definitely stopping by again.
The barista was lovely and helpful! She recommended the raspberry rhubarb pie to try. We also tried the peach blueberry pie, the cold brew, and an iced latte. That was some of the most delicious pie I've had! The peach blueberry was outstanding! The cold brew was really tasty! The knick knacks and pictures on the walls are great, I kept finding googly eyes everywhere! We will definitely come back when we're in town!
Love the coffee and pie. I get the vegan pie and I feel the gluten free crust is really hard and dry, but the filling makes it worth it. Their coffee is amazing, some of the best on the block imo. I go here all the time and I love the staff even if they forget my pie in the microwave sometimes. I just wave someone down and the fetch it right away, I don't mind too much, they get really busy and I understand.
I have been here before but it was many years ago. I was in the neighborhood and wanted some coffee so I decided to stop. The coffee was not too my liking, but I think that might just be me. I bought a pastry and the first couple of bites were dry and chewy so part was dry and part was soft. The flavor was good but the pastry may have been day old. The staff was friendly and the service was quick.
Staff were very friendly, but seemed to be stretched thin. Nice atmosphere. Coffee wasn't that special for what we paid, seemed like espresso pricing for self serve drip.

If you're into a lived in experience this is for you. Simple decor and furniture that has been used for quite some time. Comfortable for sure. It's the sort of place you can plunk down in for quite some time and it looks like many people does I saw many laptops and outlet strips. They serve breakfast and lunch. I was satisfied with my bagel sandwich and tea.
Cute cafe. Lots of pies and various sandwiches like breakfast sandwiches. I got a latte that was pretty good. The quiche was really good got the meat one. The staff was friendly. I would go back and try the sandwiches.

This is a cool coffee shop; you'll especially enjoy it if you enjoy being surrounded by alternative culture Portland is so well known for. Great coffee, their sandwiches are outstanding. If you're looking to study or work, it's crowded and can be noisy. The WiFi is dependable - part of the time - and there aren't a lot of outlets available.
Their pie is amazing! But any time over the past few years I have attempted to order a drink it's been wrong. Every time. You're thinking I must order a complex beverage. But I don't. I order either a vanilla or plain latte. That's it. So if you're looking for some pie, look no further! But if you're looking for coffee, keep searching.
What a great space. In many ways it’s unchanged from my visits over the last 15+ years, and in the best ways it’s coffee game is as fresh as ever. Great staff, quick service. High quality with no pretension.

This is one of my favorite local coffee shops that I most often frequent. Cold brew coffee, and espresso drinks are solid. The pastry selection is top notch as well as their offerings for Bagels/ Bagel sandwiches (the lox sandwich is great!). Overall a great place to drop by for a brew or hang inside/on the patio with a book in hand.
I upped my rating from 3 stars a few yrs ago. My biggest issue was I'm not a fan of their coffee, but turns out that their cappuccino is pretty good. Above all, Bipartisan added a lot of vegan and vegetarian food to the menu. Very good breakfast and sandwich additions. Atmosphere is lovely too, but I don't think they're dine in yet.
The coffee and food were tasty, with a variety of options for food sensitivities. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this place as it is more collaborative, like "old" coffee shops used to be. Sure, you can come and do work here, but you also have a space for meeting of minds, and meeting your neighbor. Good for all walks of life.
Practicing discrimination that's not based in science. Really? As someone who's vaccinated I can't support this business that doesn't allow me to sit in their establisment with an unvaccinated friend. Unbelievable. There are plenty of other really good and cleaner coffee shops in Portland to visit that don't do share this policy.
This is my favourite coffee shop in the Portland area. They serve good coffee, food, and pies. Their political "bipartisan" theme is fun and I love the neighbourhood vibe. It can be a bit overrun with people depending on the time, but I've always found a seat. I generally appreciate the music choices, which can be eclectic!
This is one of my favorite coffee shops in my neighborhood. The staff is great and so are the coffee and prices. It is the only coffeeshop within walking distance that serves traditionally-roasted coffee, as opposed to the sour green under-roasted brew currently in vogue in Portland. And I support their vaccination policy!!
Super chill place to enjoy coffee and read or tap away on your laptop. The sandwiches are yummy. And the politically fractious posters are both educational and entertaining.

Delicious pumpkin spice latte here! Vax card required for indoor dining, but not to go orders. Also at the people that say you need to show your vax card for coffee to go, you must be mistaken. I just got a coffee and pie yesterday to go and didn't show any card. You only need to show it if you wanna sit inside.
Bi-partisan is one of my top 2 coffee shops in Portland! Genuinely amazing coffee, so smooth and delicious, and they have pie!!! Highly highly recommend the banana cream pie. Good food options as well! Plenty of outlets to charge devices, and great work atmosphere. Staff are always very sweet! More
Delicious crafted drinks and great pies! During the pandemic, Bipartisan Café has a walk-up window at the front door to take orders through a speaker (use of mask / face covering required). After placing an order, the pick up window is located on the side of the building. Quick, friendly service!
This place and its staff are nice. The atmosphere and decorations are really neat, and the coffee and food are pretty good. For a neighborhood haunt like this, the girls behind the counter could do a little more to recognize the regulars, but other than that I really love this place.
The service is good and the food and drink are great, but if you are planning to get some work done I would not recommend doing so here. The wifi is quite slow and constantly drops connection. If you are looking for a chill place to grab a beverage and hang out, this place is great!
Amazing pie! My friend and I each ordered something different so we could try two. Both yummy! Good quality coffee. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Not the place to go if you want a quiet space, as it is generally crowded. But, if you are good with that, it is well worth a visit.
Nice Café with amazing pie. They have gluten and alternative sweetener options. Best pie in town and a great relaxing atmosphere. In addition to pie they serve hot and cold drinks, soups and sandwiches. Great place to wait before a movie or bring your laptop to get some work done.
Great old school cafe with actual food. Great coffee too, only complaint is that laptop people taking up all the tables is a bit lame. Long live the Bipartisan Cafe.

Great pies and kind of a classic funky coffeeshop. The staff is friendly and they have couches and comfortable chairs to sit in, with good chargers for your phone and computer. They have like 6 different types of freshly baked pies...I love the blueberry and blackberry.
Great atmosphere! It’s hard wood floor suggest it been around a long time. We shared and egg sandwich croissant. It was very tasty and had very fresh slices of tomato on it. I highly recommend this place for a coffee or a quick snack. Update! 06/14/2022 Still fabulous!

Drinks are good.....my rating is based off the dirtiness of the place. I like my lavender latte but when I went to order a cookie there was a fly trapped in the glass display...... They could use a good dusting and wipe down.... Just feels kinda gross in there
Very relaxing environment. Very peaceful. While waiting for my Jasmine pearl tea to steep, I've noticed other customers seemed to share my mentality. Whether it'd be on your laptop doing work or sharing a beverage and food with close friends or loved ones.
This is the best coffee place on the area, definitely on foot. The place is a hippie cozy with loads of quick and extensive food options. The coffee is not bad and whist there is no table service the staff is nice. This place is also bustling with life.
How does one coffeeshop block off the entrance to a street??? The city has the corner blocked and restaurants have the street sheds. Why would anyone want to fight the problems of parking and shopping in Montivilla on Stark? Took my business to Gresham.
Be aware! This place refused to sell me coffee to go, since I refused to show them my vaccination card while wearing a mask. My buying a cup of coffee has nothing to do with my medical history. I will never go back even though this is my neighborhood.
If you love coffee and pie this is the place for you. Such a fun meet up spot to catch up with friends. Baked goods are divine. A true staple to Montavilla neighborhood

I have been to the cafe before but finally picked up a pie for takeout last week after a friend told me they have the best key lime pie around. He was right! Will definitely be taking back my pie tin to try another flavor--they all look so good!
I absolutely love their coffee here and the atmosphere. However, when I pay over $7 for a breakfast croissant I’d love it if the egg didn’t resemble styrofoam. I’ll return for the coffee but will definitely not be ordering food here ever again.
It is a truly amazing cafe tucked away in NE Montavilla. If you are looking for a tasty slice of pie you found the right spot! The staff has always been attentive and kind and the coffee is always great. Definitely my favorite cafe in Portland.
A few times that I have gone here and ordered a bagel and a latte the food and drink come out fine but it seems like they always make the food first and let your hot coffee sit where it always ends up lukewarm which is annoying as hell .
Such an awesome spot, great coffee and the ambiance is great! The layout is a little tricky, when you are in line to order you are right on front of the door so that can make things awkward going in and out but it has a great vibe overall
First time. Got lucky and found the last dirty table. Cashier got order wrong. Had to resubmit. Bagel was over-toasted. Asking for utensils seemed to be an oddity. Entire place was packed with students on their laptops. Interesting place.
As a coffee shop, Bipartisan rules, in the best 90s slang way. Great tasting coffee and espresso drinks, with of course milk options. 50 cent refills may seem stingy but keep in mind people sit here for hours working on their computers.
The atmosphere is great- lots of changing and funny art and typically an OK spot for working. It can get a bit noisy and crowded during peak hours, so if you do plan on working, bring ear buds. The staff is generally kind and friendly,
Just ordered a strawberry-rhubarb whole pie along with some of their raspberry crumble bars (gluten free & vegan for dear allergy-prone friends) and it was all top of the line delicious. It was ready for the time arranged and I am so
One of the most comfortable couches in a coffee shop ever! Great atmosphere. Busy, nut not crowded. Quiet enough to read. A few comfortable couches as well as tables and chairs. Fantastic historical American documents fill the walls.
Phenomenal cafe. Everything is great but my go tos are the vegan breakfast sandwich, the vegan and GF chocolate chip cookies, matcha rose latte with oat milk or Cafe au lait with rose and oat milk! Staff is always friendly and fast.
I VOTE PIE 2020! Full of sweetness, generous portions, diversity of flavors, hearty, made with soul, and vegan, so good for the environment. Not to take any sides here, but this pie was a clear winner! …
Key lime pie and pumpkin lattes are the best here! A great place I have frequented for many years. Was delighted to find they have some new outdoor seating and a pick-up window! The card checks for dine-in were also appreciated.
Good environment, we had no problem getting a seat. Cappuccino and americano were good: good selection of food and gluten free and vegan options.

The hot chocolate is on the less rich side but it's surprisingly nice and smooth. The Turkey Club Tefe Wraps is pretty tasty, but the Turkey Croissant Sandwich has this weird sour/bitter tomato taste.
Great little cafe with a political edge to it. Food and coffee were good. I went once back in 2015 and I've always wanted to come back. Finally got myself back in Portland with time to try it again.
Great place, awesome pies, but they seem to close early all the time, which is rough when you want dessert! I feel like they could have a whole secondary pie bizz if they had the window open till 9
Friendly staff and good ambiance! Terrible food and even worse coffee. The bagel and lox was yucky and my latte tasted burnt. I was excited to try this place out and left incredibly disappointed.
Fresh baked goods, coffee 1 cup only, refills $1.00, staff are friendly. Must show vaccination card to sit inside, Yea! Food is good, but not great. Fun place for locals to hang out.
Great coffee and great pie! Staff is friendly, lots of space to sit and chat or work. Wifi, music not too loud, nice lighting. Street parking can be a bit rough but it's worth it.
