Myself and my friend wanted a nice girly night away as I’m due my baby in a month’s time, but to say the experience was underwhelming and disappointing is an understatement. We booked the Girls night package, which included a spa treatment, late checkout, breakfast, Prosecco and chocolates in the room, €50 restaurant voucher between us and a cocktail each. So anyways we got to our rooms and for a 4 star hotel the rooms are really basic, no fridge so the Prosecco was really warm and undrinkable as the heating was on full wack in the room when we walked in, there were no robes or slippers for going to and from the pool/spa area, no bottled waters in the rooms that you’d see in the majority of 4 star hotels, nothing to hold onto when getting in and out of the bath (the shower was in the bath) unless you held onto the really hot towel rack, our room was beside the lift so we kept getting woken up all night with people talking outside our room and housekeeping walked in at 9.30am despite us only staying for one night. We were booked in for spa treatments but when I went down to get mine 2 women were both questioning me out in the open and I felt like they were making it out to be a very big deal that I was pregnant looking for a treatment, despite getting treatments (especially back massages, sitting up) all throughout my pregnancy with no problems. I was told a back massage wouldn’t be possible which is completely fine, I offered straight away for a facial but I was still asked a tone of questions like if I let the hotel know I was pregnant, how far along I was, what I had done before and how recently, along with loads of other questions which I understand as they have to be careful but I was never questioned to such extent 2/3 weeks prior when I got a back massage (sitting up) in a clinic so I felt uncomfortable but after this I enjoyed the facial I got and the masseuse turned out really nice. We then went down to have dinner and the food was really nice but at 10pm, I went up to the bar the woman behind the bar and a waiter were chatting, I had to call the bar woman and asked could we use our free cocktail vouchers and she asked what I wanted, I told her two different cocktails one without alcohol and straight away she told me the barman had just left, I was like what?? And she told me the barman just finished his shift and didn’t offer a solution but another staff member then jumped in and said she’d ask another barman in a different bar to make them so she asked me again what I wanted and just continued her conversation with the waiter without saying anything to me like yeah that’s grand for example, it was a very rude and unnecessary exchange. The breakfast was so nice and the breakfast staff were the sweetest!! But then at 10.30am, my friend rang reception and asked what time late checkout was, she told us we didn’t have late checkout and checkout was at 11 and she couldn’t give us late checkout because she needed our room. We checked our package to make sure it was included and it was so my friend rang back and another receptionist answered and said she’d ring someone to check and let us know but she didn’t think we had it. It was 11am at this stage and we heard nothing so I rang back and the receptionist confirmed with me our room number and the package we booked and then told me we didn’t have late checkout and we had to check out straight away as it was past 11 now. I told her it’s in our email and on the website that it’s included and she immediately changed her tone and said oh okay that’s no problem then, late checkout is at 1pm I’ll let house keeping know. Just the whole experience we felt like staff were all over the place or didn’t really want to do their job they obviously did not check if we had late checkout and the woman behind the bar obviously didn’t want to make the cocktails herself. Overall we wouldn’t come back purely because of the staff. Some of the things mentioned wouldn’t bother us on their own but altogether I feel like they’re worth mentioning,

Just had my third stay here have to say it’s gone downhill terrible , rude receptionist tall man with the black hair didn’t catch his name unfortunately he simply hated his job. He said no cash payments rudely when I was at my pockets putting back my licence which he me asked for he went on to explain it is a €1000 Deposit for cash payments along with if I damage anything it’s €1000 charge even by card along with I better not bring friends to the room first time I’ve been told this at any hotel I was not planing any friends coming to see me anyways. I explained to him if he read the screen the room was pre paid and I stayed in the past without any complaints. he tried putting us in the ground floor which I then requested third floor he claims no rooms upstairs have air conditioning that I have booked plus no available rooms are upstairs when I booked a classic double bed room. got into the room it was single beds put together at the 2 constantly noisy elevators, room did not have a iron or ironing board also. I returned to reception told him I would like the third floor as I stayed their before in all previous stays he gave us the keys and again 2 single beds together but it had air conditioning this time a iron for the clothes. Third day cleaners never came in when I had the door sign on sign was put on at 2:50pm wasn't back until 8pm to the room was left to clean myself with dirty towels and had nearly no toilet roll left. Now onto my main reason for this review the air conditioning the room was like a microwave and made me and my girlfriend very very sick had it on cold the whole time it simply did not work the dust it left everywhere was horrible visible dirt left on my finger and phone anytime I touched a table. Had to return home and go the chemist also for cold and flu tablets along with get more medicine next door. Would love to see when they last cleaned the air conditioning as I’m sure it’s a health and safety hazard. Hotel was so bad I didn’t even wake up regretting to leave I felt relived instead Hotel was a waste of money and was a waste of money treating my sickness. Only good thing about it was the sauna hot tub is nothing special sure it was out of service till the last day like it always is Avoid this hotel at all costs other plenty of better hotels skylon hotel down the road is 10 times better only missing the sauna area. Plenty of others in Dublin with sauna for good price too that is not like this place .

Rooms were fine - larger than most we’ve had in EU at this price point. Only 1 elevator was working and it’s tiny (expect 2 people with bags or 4 without). Biggest complaint was that our room keys kept being deprogrammed. Not sure what was going on but was apparently common as front desk never questioned it. Just started having them reprogrammed every time we went back to room to save us the extra trip up 4 flights of stairs. Used the same type of keys at every place we stayed on our 2 week vacation and only had the issue here.

Walkability
It is walkable to bus stops to and from Dublin but would really benefit from a crosswalk. Currently you just wait for red and try to beat the traffic coming from hotel at the 3 way.
Food & drinks
Only ate at hotel restaurant and was not impressed. After one day of trying it, our friends and us decided to do McDonalds as the breakfast was better and cheaper.

At the Bonnington (Dublin) the view outside our room was dead birds rotting both visits. Different rooms booked 1 week apart, different dead birds. What's happening to the birds? The bathrooms smell like sewer gas. The staff are friendly, the room was nice and cool at night, and we had working hot water. Breakfast is a typical hotel breakfast, not great not bad. The supermarket right next door was very convenient. Of all the places we stayed in Ireland, despite my detailed complaints, it was one of the better ones.

Bathrooms smell of sewer gas. Hot water works. AC works well at night. Very thin walls. Bad view both visits (dead birds rotting). USB outlets plentiful. No mini fridge.

Food & drinks
Breakfast was average for a hotel. More variety but same quality.
Noteworthy details
Don't open your curtains, just leave them closed. It's better to not know what's out there.
My sister stayed here on her own for 1 night. She got mugged near hotel. I called hotel explaining what happened and asked if I could pay for her dinner over the phone they refused. I even asked to buy a gift voucher for her so she could eat some dinner and they still refused. Gavin the manager just repeated’ it’s hotel policy ‘ and refused to help. I’m not sure what the hotel is like I didn’t stay there but I think it’s lousy that the hotel wouldn’t help their customer, a woman on her own who was mugged on their doorstep. They almost refused her access to the room she had pre paid as she couldn’t present her card and ID ( was stolen) she gave a digital copy of passport and a friend called hotel to give card details and eventually got in. Lousy. Ps the barman later on was lovely. When he heard hee story he offered to help her out of his own pocket. Gavin could learn a thing or two from his own staff. Disappointing and won’t stay again.

Maybe a 4 star back in the 90s!! 3 Star at a push! We stayed here knowing it was outside of Dublin (we didn’t min as when you go in the website it states there was mcgettetigans pub, the Croft bar, DXTR restaurant and breakfast room) we thought for a night away outside of Dublin we had plenty of choice for food and drinks and would not need to leave the hotel. We were not advised that in fact all that was open was the Croft bar which served food. I had the chowder which was terrible however my partner had the seabass and that was beautiful. Rooms average- on the booking form it stated a fridge could be arranged upon request, I gave plenty of notice that I required a fridge thinking it would already have been in the room. Not the case! Eventually a fridge was put in the room However was a waste of time as it didn’t work. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Not for me

Pictures online are NOT accurate. Loud, dirty, and uncomfortable. The pool experience was awful. A lukewarm hottub, an unclean sauna, and a very rude front desk employee. Swim caps are required and must be purchased to enter. The pool was my main reason for booking this particular hotel huge disappointment. The hallway outside our room smelled bad, and the room itself smelled too. Throughout the night, my friend and I were awoken by many noises. Upstairs, there was a "security" door. In theory, you would scan your room key to access the hall, but the door was broken. Anyone could have strolled in there. To top it all off, the two ladies working the front desk couldn't be less interested in guest affairs. We couldn't wait to leave. The only positive thing I can report was on my interaction with a blonde woman working the breakfast bar. She was very kind and working hard.

When we arrived, our room was cold and maintenance stated that the heat is only on from 6p to 8a. On both our nights stay we had no heat since the heat never turned on. Also the refrigerator in our room did not work and based on talking to 2 other guests who had the same issue. It appears that the room refrigerators are just for show. Unfortunately I purchased some gourmet cheese not knowing the refrigerator didn’t work, and all had to be trashed on our final day! There was so much noise from our windows facing the front of the hotel and after inspection I realized that one of the windows had slid down and was open. I spent a lot of time closing the window but it continued to open! I think this hotel is due for a maintenance overhaul. The staff here is helpful and they did the best they could to assist.

Came here for our last night in Dublin due to location of the airport. Only one elevator was working and it was tiny it only fit one of us with our luggage. I also picked this location because of the pool/hottub but because the elevator wasn’t working you had to go out the front door and walk down the street to get there and then down several flights of stairs. I wouldn’t say it’s connected to the hotel at all. There’s definitely some walking involved. Room was fairly clean but bathroom had mismatched tiles and looked like a previous plumbing leak as the tiles were falling out of the wall. The fact that it’s rated a 4 star hotel is laughable. I would maybe give this 3 stars if I’m being generous (mainly cause the restaurant was okay). This reminds me of a super 8 hotel in the US. Should’ve just found a Hilton to stay at.

Friendly enough staff but absoloutly abysmal service from one lady in the croft bar. I was told no flavoured gin. When there were quite a few. My husband ended up googling what one of the sauces was because she didn't know and/or seemed unwilling to find out. One of our party had his whole dinner order missed. Bar manager did his best to help which was appreciated. Breakfast was delicious and the lady who showed us our table and gave us tea/coffee was attentive. Competent check in and out. Lovely and clean and fresh smelling room with amazingly comfortable bed. Room was hot and dark as we faced an inner courtyard wall. Bathroom very cramped but clean and presentable.

No complaints and overall pleasant experience. My husband and I stayed 2 nights and chose this hotel for its location between the airport and downtown main area. It has a bus stop conveniently within a 3 minute walk and felt safe even at night. Staff was friendly and helpful- we left our baggage with the front desk when early check in wasn't available (there were many bags so I would advise to not bank on early check in) and when our room key did not work they quickly fixed it. Finally, the room itself was clean. Fortunately we visited when the days were hot but cooled at night so an open window and fan were sufficient to keep cool. Did not try the restaurant downstairs but overall would recommend.

Myself and a friend stayed at the hotel in August availing of a spa package. The package was good value for money but a few issues mostly to do with staff. Definitely some cleanliness issues throughout the hotel and just not paying attention to detail. The hotel is rated 4 star which I think is very generous considering the issues with the hotel. Definitely needs updating. I had emailed the hotel at the time with some of things I mentioned and I am yet to hear a response. I have sent several emails since then but no acknowledgment of my emails since the first one that was sent almost 2 months ago. This is just adding to the poor customer service.

Outside of the hotel is an absolute nightmare. The paths and bushes beside it are absolutely filthy and full of all sorts of rubbish that has been there for weeks/months. The parking situation is a disaster - constantly a traffic jam outside, taxis blocking the roads, huge buses going down the road and not being able to turn around. Likely not enough spaces for their resident. It would also be a huge issue should a fire brigade or ambulance need to get down to the apartments at the end. The hotel also has a total disregard and lack of respect for their neighbours in showing no effort to resolve any of the above issues which have been raised numerous times over recent months.

This hotel was a nice surprise. The location is good for Dublin city, you may need a taxi to get to places but it shouldn't cost too much. The rooms are nice and well maintained. We had food which was nice with good staff and atmosphere. The pool and sauna was nice and warm. All the staff were helpful and friendly so overall a great stay. We had a late check out also which was very helpful. Breakfast was one of the better ones I had and again the staff in the breakfast room were great.

I have regularly attended The Bonnington since 2017 with the exception of the Covid Years. The rooms are clean, spacious and quiet. Great for sleeping and working. The staff are without exception polite and attentive, especially in the bar where Stephen (Bar Manager) is an ever present. Stephen is a credit to any organisation while Ronan and the rest of the team support him admirably. The swimming pool is a good size and there is a fabulous Gym. I absolutely recommend this hotel. It is approximately 7km outside of Dublin City and the same distance from the airport.

Booked this hotel for one night before our flight or of Dublin airport. On arrival we were given a room and upon opening the door were hit by a blast of hot air. The room was like a furnace! Ventured down to reception to enquire about other options and was rudely dismissed by Emma staying there was nothing they could do. Suggestions of upgrades, changing sides of the building etc were met with a shrug. Absolutely appalling customer service and I will certainly never return not will I recommend this hotel suite to their or customer service.

What can I say, we had the most amazing experience for a small 30 people wedding meal. We didn't ask for anything spacific as it was a laid back affair but when we got there to see the effort and the attention to detail was beautiful. The tables were stunning and the simplified menu was perfect. Everyone loved the food and we can't speak highly enough of the staff. The rooms were perfect. Spotless and comfortable. Thank you Bonnington from the bottom of our hearts for making our day so magical

Bus stop just outside the hotel,so you could hop on and go to Dublin. Don't try to take the car not worth the hasel. Loved the weekend away would recommend and would go again

Staff is very helpful. The room we had , the 4th floor, the shower head was loose from the tiled wall. Being strictly veggie, the server spoon and the non-vegg were mixed up. Therefore, I simply had cereal and coffee. Travellers failed to understand that they shouldn't mix spoons. Staff didn't know that veggie people could not eat food that contaminated. Hotel management needs to address the issue. The vegan option is limited with soups, and main dishes lack imagination

Hotel OK, but not all the staff are as friendly as one might wish. Man in reception treated any complaint as a personal criticism and was quite aggressive. Lift seems to have a mind of its own and if you press two buttons, does not visit the floors in the sensible order. Pressing 2 and 3 was taken to 3 and then back down to ground. Also I could not get a decaff Tea or coffee in one of the resteraunts, even though they offered these elsewhere in the hotel. I will not be returning.

I attended a function in the Ballroom last night (4.11). It was my first visit and I was extremely impressed with the surroundings, the meal and most importantly the service. Staff at all levels were exceptionally helpful and professional. (Teresa in particular - hope that I have her name correct. Beautiful mature lady with blonde hair.) Thank you to the team in the Ballroom for making our night very special and one to remember always. Highly recommend The Bonnington Hotel.

Sorry for the late review..Stayed over for two nights as I had received a theatre break gift from a friend..Hotel was great, location was an inexpensive bus ride to the city centre. The pre theatre meal was delicious and likewise for the breakfast. I have to mention Lorraine (with two R's) who made our stay so memorable. An absolute credit to your company .. Whatever you are paying her it should be double . Looking forward to our next stay.

The worst place I have ever stayed. Toilet blocked in room. No batteries in remote. Key reader on door broken. Bars close at the ridiculous time of 11pm. And after all that we requested to add late check out to be told they were fully booked. We checked online, plenty of rooms still available. Would not stay again if I was paid. Incredible they have the audacity to play this place off as a 4 star hotel. Two at the very best and that’s being generous.

The hotel itself is between 2 bus stops. If you are coming from the center you better get off at the earlier bus stop which is Swords Road, Whitehall College because here you can cross the road. There is an ongoing renovation in the hotel and it sure needs it. The rooms are fine, the only problem was the mold in the ventilation system which I could smell and see. The breakfast was perfect, the staff was super nice!

The hotel is under construction and we were not informed before arrival, we had a room on the 5th floor was like a maze to get to the room, several long corridors with no doors. It was very hot, no ac or fan provided, staff was pleasant. Location was close to airport but not a lot to do near hotel. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, sheets were very rough, not soft at all. Was not impressed find another hotel.

The room was clean, but there was no bottled water in the rooms or the entire hotel. You have to go in their lobby bar and have some water served to you in a glass. Parking is hellish and our shower had no temperature control. It would go from freezing to scolding on its own throughout the shower.
