This store is the best. Pre-pandemic, I would often come here to browse and leaf through their unique and special selection. I love that I can find smaller publications like the Ryerson Review of Journalism (woop woop j-skool!) AND Cosmopolitan magazine (or whatever mainstream mag you love) in the same place. The staff are always friendly, patient, and so knowledgeable about the latest titles and old favourites, and their gifts are so cool – I always end up with a deck of cards, a puzzle, a mug or something else neat that I didn't need but somehow couldn't leave without, lol. Love their loyalty discount program, too! <3
Every community NEEDS good bookstores. They're near-extinct, killed off by Chapters (which no longer even cares about books - it's more concerned with selling candles and knickknacks) & Amazon (intent on monopolizing retail sales everywhere). Toronto still has one remaining small chain of committed bookstores. This is a brilliant little business. A great place to browse, to find books you didn't know existed, to find a good selection of magazines from around the world. It deserves your patronage. You deserve the joy of a great classic bookstore. Enjoy.
Book City has a good selection of books in a welcoming atmosphere. Staff are always willing to help with recommendations, locating a specific title, or ordering one in (if it's at another store or available to get from one of their suppliers). They have a smaller space than Indigo, which can be nice if you want that more 'traditional' local book shop feel, while still having all the latest and greatest titles.
This is where we usually go to buy books so we can support independent book sellers. They need a better selection of calendars, we try to buy ours here each year. The cashier, new to me, wasn't very friendly to me (they usually are) but was very friendly to my husband. Hmmmm
It is very difficult to leave the store without a book. They always have good stuff on sale and the books not on sale are as a rule a couple of bucks cheaper then in, say, Indigo. I even like that the site is small, it makes the whole experience a pleasant and intimate one.
I want to like this place so badly. I give it try after try after try. Whenever I walk in, nobody says hello, I can never get anyone to help me find something, i feel like I'm an inconvenience to the staff. It's just a weird vibe. Ugh, I guess it's Indigo for me.
You can buy books anywhere, what this place offers is knowledgeable and helpful staff, and a very well-curated stock of books that a) I was going in to get and b) pleasant surprises that became great reads. Go for the service, stay for the books.
Great place to get books, browse, even special order! Friendly and knowledgeable staff. They have a great member discount program! I recently special ordered a book through them and it was 1/3 less than the price at Indigo or Amazon...
This is my favorite bookstore in Toronto. It is small but has a great selection of books at low prices. The staff are nice and knowledgeable, always willing to help you out. Definitely a place that book lovers cannot miss :)
Nice local shop. I pass by at lunchtime when I am out for a walk. There's usually a good selection of discount books (under ten dollars) inside and outside of the store.
Whenever I buy a book, I choose to support this store. They have a wonderful selection (especially for their size) and the staff have always been helpful and lovely.
Beautiful book store!! They have a great selection and prices are reasonable! What I loved the most was the care with the arrangement and display of the books.
A great addition to the neighbourhood. Great selection from bargain clearouts to the latest best sellers. Helpful and friendly staff.
