"After not being in the area since pre-pandemic, I visited the bakery to look for some treats"
"It's the most affordable and delicious bakery in the area! I go about twice a week, usually for their fresh croissants in the morning and then a post-work treat in the afternoons"
"What a beautiful professionally made croissant! Of course it's crispy outside, soft and buttery aromatic inside! Always perfectly shaped and, no mess after bites and bites and bites"
"Very professional and courteous service"
"Very nice! I stopped by today for the first time to try the bread, having heard about them many times from people"
After not being in the area since pre-pandemic, I visited the bakery to look for some treats. I was looking around and the man to the back asked if I wanted bread so I said sure. I'm allergic to sourdough which he was pushing to sell so I selected an older white loaf. As I was paying for it, I asked about the other breads on the tray shelves and in front of the other customers, he shouted back accusing me of talking too much and that he's losing money. I left quickly but gave away my purchase on the walk home. Sir, thanks to you, I'm a loyal customer of Ichiban where the service is welcoming.
It's the most affordable and delicious bakery in the area! I go about twice a week, usually for their fresh croissants in the morning and then a post-work treat in the afternoons. I've been working my way to try everything in the bakery. Favourite: plain croissant, perfect feuilleté layers and SUCH A GREAT PRICE! Pleasant surprise: The cinnamon roll has a cinnamon caramel coated between the layers, that is perfect consistency and not too sweet. Won't find anywhere else: French Basque cheesecake. It's the perfect balanced cheesecake! EVERYTHING IS HANDMADE AND FRESH!!!
What a beautiful professionally made croissant! Of course it's crispy outside, soft and buttery aromatic inside! Always perfectly shaped and, no mess after bites and bites and bites. I experience is the crispier the croissant is, the messier it is while biting it or even just holding it since the outside layer always comes off so easy. Half the croissant would fell off already before finishing it. I give it 6 stars for its perfection!
Very professional and courteous service. In business for over 20 years and there's a good reason why. Walking into this Bakery, the first thing I noticed was that it smelled so delicious. Just like a traditional Bakery from my childhood. Highly recommended quick visit to this gem! There is so much to chooses from and prices are reasonable. #localguide
Very nice! I stopped by today for the first time to try the bread, having heard about them many times from people. Bought a loaf of french bread and it was delicious! Very reasonable price as well, and the owner is very friendly and courteous. They have a collection of other baked goods as well. Nice to find local independent bakeries thriving!
I came at 9AM there were a couple of baked goods. I simply asked the attendant who seemed to be the owner of the bakery if these were from yesterday. He got upset with the question, started laughing inappropriately and questioned if I was Canadian.

My favourite bakery! I go about twice a week for bread, croissants and cinnamon swirls. Run by hardworking & friendly husband & wife, very passionate about their work. Always happy to see them open at such early and late hours, though sometimes I honestly wish they would close a little earlier & get some well-deserved rest!
The most delicious bakery I ate in Canada! French bread tasted like real french, bun with peach was to die for. We should have bought more when we were there this morning, but we've already left Ottawa :( I wish we had such bakery in our town. Sorry, no photoes, we ate everything till the last crumb!
I go once (sometimes twice) a week with my partner to get croissants and other treats. The bakery is an Ottawa icon and truly is the best bakery in Ottawa. He puts so much love and care into all he bakes and you can tell. Great guy, great bread. 10/10 worth trying and going to whenever you can.
Cutest bakery ever! The shop owner is so wholesome, greets you with the biggest smile and is clearly so invested in his products and love what he does :) The matcha cookies are absolutely delightful and fluffy, a must try! Love this bakery and there’s a great variety of pastries and breads.
Family owned bakery, Brown Loaf is in the heart of Elgin. The customer service I received was great and the man working there welcomed me with a big smile. Their croissants were delicious and fresh! I have had their pastries before and must say they bake it with love. SO DELICIOUS.
I had ordered a chocolate ganache cake from this bakery for my daughter's birthday a couple of weeks ago. The cake was delicious! Even my toddler loved the cake! The people running this bakery are super nice and friendly. Would recommend this place to everyone! :)
I've been wanting to try Brown Loaf for a long time - I finally did yesterday, and I can honestly say that this is the best baguette I've had in Ottawa (and I think that I have high standards for bread!). The owner was also extremely kind. Highly recommend!
Everytime I come to Ottawa, I always stop by this bakery! The quality of the baked goods is amazing and the price point is great! The owner is so knowledgeable and friendly - you can tell he puts a lot of work and love into baking!! Highly recommend!
I've tried croissants at over 10 bakeries in Ottawa/Gatineau, and this was my favorite so far. Definitely recommend visiting to pick up one. Minus one point for the cinnamon roll. I thought it was good, but nowhere near as delicious as the croissant.
Try and get There before everything is gone! Ask if you don't see it! Just moved here from GTA and tried a half dozen places before finding this awesome guy. Everything he makes tastes good.

Truly an amazing place, and amazing people. A place that can truly deliver top notch pastries, bread, and desserts without cutting corners in the preparation, or their quality. From cheese croissants, to sourdough bread, to butter tarts and
This bakery is as authentic as it gets! Opened by a Japanese man who studied french baking, this was his 3rd bakery! He then sold his business to a wonderful family who took it over! Times are difficult for small businesses but everything
I visit this bakery once a week in the morning to get a freshly baked croissant. Without a doubt, I leave with buttery goodness straight from the oven and a smile every damn time. I have yet to taste a better croissant than at Brown Loaf.
I've coming to Brown Loaf bakery for the past three years and have only positive things to say: excellent pastries (the hazelnut and almond butter cookies are a must) kind owners and staff, and great walkable location. Highly recommend!
Freshly baked pastries and lovely hardworking owners. It’s a pleasure to have them in the neighborhood because I don’t know where I would get my daily fix otherwise! I am obsessed with their matcha white chocolate scones, SO delicious.
Excellent service and bakery. The chocolate croissants are really good. The prices are very reasonable. Thank you.

Great spot for freshly baked goodies! They have a great selection of items ranging from croissants to scones to mochi. A must try if you're in the area, and pick up some extra to keep at home because they're that good!
I think this is honestly the best bakery in the city. Everything I eat is fresh. If I’m interested in something, and they are in the middle of baking it, they let me know. Today it was butter tarts and they we just
Made living off Elgin a gem. Some of the best croissants, cinnamon rolls, cookies and bread I’ve had. Such a lovely owner, who remembers you. Will definitely be visiting even after moving out of the downtown core.
Very friendly service!! The chocolate croissant was so delicious. It was light, but had a good density to it and had a nice amount of dark chocolate inside and outside the croissant. Finished it in seconds!!!
It smells awesome inside and the old asian guy(maybe the owner?) is sooo lovely! He is all smiles and jokes, he made my day. I am going to bring these pastries home but I am dying to try!!
The BEST bakery in Ottawa. Me and my girlfriend have our morning ritual to grab fresh bread every Saturday. The baker is very friendly and his even delicious. Highly recommended. …
Charming bakery with fresh breads, cookies, and other baked goods. The owner and staff are wonderful, friendly people. You can have your fresh bread freshly sliced right there as well!
Pleasant bakery with tasty cookies! Served by a little old man with such a welcoming and gentle smile. Definitely becoming a regular and will be recommending this to my friends!
Every single item here tastes fresh and amazing. Eveything. The owners are very nice and hard-working. I'd recommend their spinach cheese on bread, biscotti, cinnamon roll!
Delicious croissants and scones. We grabbed a few for breakfast and were very happy with the choice to stop in. We will definitely be back next time we are in Ottawa.
I love croissants and scones here. Generally everything I got from here was good I will visit often Price is very affordable and owner is super friendly :)
Had an apricot scone. Worst scone i had in my life. Not only it was not fresh it tasted too like bread with an overdone of cheap quality butter.
This chocolate croissant is the tastiest I've ever had! They also have good brownies, and the staff is super friendly.
I’ve been occasionally visiting this shop for years and they are a gem of Ottawa. Great pastries and buns!
I'm convinced the great reviews are lies. The scone I had was so dry, it would make gravel jealous.
I probably spend $40 a month on croissants here. Amazing croissants and a very nice man
Got cheesecake slices for my girlfriend and her sisters - all thought it was amazing
They are so freaking good. Love their scone
