I love this place most times. It's Hit or Miss. The donuts and buttermilk drops are inconsistent when it comes to the flavor. Sometimes the glaze taste like lemon or 7Up other times it just tastes like straight powdered sugar. Sometimes the buttermilk drops have a hint of vanilla flavor some other times they just taste doughy and bland. When it comes to the food side, they're inconsistent as well. Your grits might be creamy today and water it tomorrow. Also, I hate the way that they serve the food. They take and make all of their doordash orders while you're standing in line waiting to order. It's a possibility that they will run out of food while you're standing in line. (This has happened on two different occasions) Either way, I'll keep trying until they give me a reason not to. Side note: the customer service is pretty decent.

Absolutely terrible customer service. Every single time I have ordered food from here it is incorrect and missing items. Today my whole breakfast plate was carelessly thrown into a plastic bag with holes in it and spilled everywhere, that is how it arrived to me. Their phone number doesn't even work so I can't get ahold of any of the actual employees to try and get my money refunded because I received something completely disgusting and uneatable that had to be thrown away. I do not recommend this place, the food is good but the employees are incompetent and because of this the taste of their food means nothing. Customer service and safely packaging food is what matters and the employees here obviously do not think that.

We had business breakfast at 9 am that morning, but I wanted to try the shrimp and grits and the breakfast rice. We arrived at 7:30 am and both items were sold out. In this case, the early bird, most definitely gets the worm... I opted for the French toast, hash browns and bacon. And a ½ dozen of assorted pastries. After making my order, I looked back and to my surprise there was a very long line behind me. The French toast were a little overcooked but the hash browns were good. I'm a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to get what I wanted, but those twists made up for it. The pastries were DELICIOUS.

This place is amazing. The regular donuts were fine, but the buttermilk drops are truly the star of the show. We got original and red velvet flavors. The red velvet is very good; the original is astonishingly delicious. The appearance of the place may be off putting; don’t let it. It’s open and the man behind the counter was so kind and friendly. I told my son that this bakery is exactly representative of New Orleans: it doesn’t always look open or even functional at first glance. But do a little investigating and you will end up with some delicious food and find friendly, kind, welcoming people.

Found this amazing little bakery and had the best apple fritter I've ever eaten. The cinnamon rolls are huge and also the best I've ever had. Next door at the other side you can get all sorts of delectable items as well. The biscuits are also some of the best I've had. I will be back for shrimp and grits as it smelled wonderful. Highly recommend you roll thru and get a bite. Get there early for the best selection as the last lemon filled was bought right before my eyes. It looked delicious. I'll get one of those next time as well. Happy eating y'all!

Truly disgusting and I wasted my money. I tried to call the restaurant and the number wasn’t working. Burned rice and old potatoes. Got two plates that were completely inedible. Ordered off Uber eats and couldn’t get a refund. If you know you’re food is not quality at the moment, cancel the order instead of making loyal customers waste money during a time like this. Ridiculous. It was the worse breakfast plate I’ve ordered in New Orleans completely inedible.the meals look affordable and sound appetizing but far from it. Do not waste your money here.

Came all the way here from the west coast to try the food and visit family and was not disappointed by the food however the service from the young ladies sucks. I think it was great for the food but they need some customer service and etiquette classes. The order was wrong, my friend order chicken plate and received shrimp and grits. No problem for an exchange right? However attitude and treatment goes a long way to fix a small mistake we all make them. But I didn't even want food after the small talk and snide remarks. I'm cool.

Best donut shop in New Orleans. Fight me. You get you a dozen jelly filled for 12 dollars and you got breakfast for the whole family for 3 days. 2 if you are looking to hurt yourself. So good. The buttermilk drops are the best by far though. Bring a dozen or 2 of them to your next party and you'll be asked where you got them so many times you'll need to make a sign. That's my one complaint. If they could get boxes with their brand name on it, it would save me a lot of breaths. Cause everybody wants to know where I got em from.

I had a taste for donuts. Something I rarely eat. So I stopped here on the way home and ordered two glazed donuts, I’m not 100 percent sure if they did but I think they threw my donuts in the microwave. And I was the 1st customer when it opened at 6am. They had fresh hot food, but my donuts were microwaved. I think this bc There were two people in the store me and another customer she ordered something hot & It was not microwaved. Overall they were pretty good donuts. I just prefer them to be freshly made.

I am a baked goods conisseur. As a child and young adult, I loved certain Mckenzie's products. BUTTERMILK DROPS being one of them. I have been on a skateboard in the daylight with a flashlight looking for a likeness since their (Mckenzie's) demise. Buttermilk Drop Bakery is the closest I have found. Sometimes the outside is a little too moist BUT flavor is very comparable to my past memories. They serve other flavors as well. Not to mention a breakfast/lunch menu next door.

  • Samantha Melton

My husband and I stopped here and OH MY. He got the pork chop special, I got a steak, egg and cheese biscuit- both were SO GOOD and very filling. The biscuits are excellent. We also got two apple fritters, because they looked too good. They tasted even better than they looked. I would recommend this place up and down. Everyone who worked there had a smiling face and seemed very sweet. One of the most authentic tasting things we ate in New Orleans during our stay. Thank you!

  • S. Johnson

The best breakfast in New Orleans. We had the glazed donuts, sausage omelette, shrimp and grits and the honey butter biscuits. No sausage omelette compares to this, we had one the day before at a popular cafe and this one surpassed it a million times over. They give you a lot of food. They are also the most affordable restaurant around. This is where locals eat. The donuts were better and tastier than the beignets I had here. This place is a must try.

  • Nola Peach

The buttermilk drop is addictive these donuts are like crack. And yes I am old enough to remember MacKenzie's. The buttermilk drops are good by themselves but the donuts oh my God. If you like donuts this is definitely the place to be. They also serve breakfat, nothing fancy but the breakfast is not bad either. If you are looking for a nice little hole in the wall, with good food, black on, and good customer service, then this is the place for you.

  • Danielle J. Mathis

Its a New Orleans favorite. Its warm and welcoming and the donuts are AMAZING!!! This is a weekly treat if I can stop myself from going back more. I really try to only go on Saturday or Sunday. They have been making some improvements and I hope all will work out for them. Lets continue to support our local restaurants :) Glaze and any flavor buttermilk drop is worth the calories lol

I ate here twice while visiting NOLA. The food was good and decently priced. The staff were friendly and service was quick. I ordered pancakes with eggs and bacon one day and cheesy eggs & grits with sausage the next. I sampled my friends waffles and potatoes too. I also had a glazed donut and original and blueberry buttermilk drops. The only thing I didn’t like were the brownies which looked amazing but lacked the flavor I expected.

  • Mayra Garcia

Best chicken I have had, EVER! The chicken was super moist and juicy. There were no dine in options so we had to eat in the car, but it was very well worth it. The waffle was okay too. Big comparison to Roscoes in Los Angeles. A must try if you love chicken!

Wish I could not give a less than a star but a wish, that they shut down. On 7/22/2023 I ordered 1/2 dozen glazed donuts from Uber Eats. The donuts were shoved down in a brown paper bag, greasy stains everywhere. Was not put in a box container. Donuts were grouped and stuck together. They have lost me as a customer.. you don't get a 2nd chance with me..this was not what I was expecting. Gmarie H. Cc: Google Local Guides and Reviews

Love, Love, Love! I’m always going to The Buttermilk Drop to get their Buttermilk Drops. They are so good and I’m So. Freaking. ADDICTED!! They melt in your mouth! I love their breakfast as well— they have a great breakfast menu which I order from often. Service has always been great each time I’ve visited. Tasty food + great service, you can not go wrong. Highly recommended! Please get the Buttermilk Drops:)

  • kaceyvu

Food 4.5 The buttermilk drops are definitely worth the visit - the dough is better than a regular donut. The shrimp and grits were my favorite - it came w/ eggs and seasoned hash/potato. Chicken and waffle had mixed reviews from my family. Service 2-4 The donut place had wonderful service, super nice young lady. The food place was ok - they forgot our order (wasn’t even busy...)

  • Ve'lay “Buttafli” Me'nette

It was all I wanted when I made it down from MN. I love buttermilk donuts. I didn't ask Siri I asked a few family and friends on where to go and they all said the Buttermilk Drop Shop. My jaw dropped when I finally made it through the door. I ordered a French toast with hot sausage and egg for 3.99 (Sunday SPECIAL...they have specials everyday). I ate 4 of them and enjoyed it.

  • Terecita Lavalais

The customer service was not good this morning and I was trying to get a water or a milk to go with my donuts the girls kept saying oh that’s on the hot side our refrigerator is broken. I informed them that I was there one day during the week and the young lady went on the hot side to get it. They refused to so they lost business because I left and went somewhere else 3/12/23

  • Linda Carr

Ordered through doordash and the order was wrong. It was 6:30 am top of the morning. I recieved someone else’s food. Wasn’t what I ordered. The eggs looked runny. The donuts didn’t look fresh to say it was top of the morning. Ordered 2 cranberry juice and they took the money and bagged 2 waters instead. I could go on but long story short I’m never eating there again.

  • WoodenRoller

I couldn't give this more stars but I would. The buttermilk drops are AMAZING. It's off the usual touristy track but absolutely worth it! They're fluffy and not dry at all even though they're fried. Trade in those hit-and-miss beignets in the french quarter for these homey delicious morsels. They have daily specials for breakfasts too! The french toast is very tasty.

  • Kourtney Nicole

I don't understand all the five star reviews. My breakfast this morning was horrible. I ordered shrimp and grits with a honey butter biscuit. The shrimp and grits were very bland, under seasoned and the grits were watery so were the eggs. The honey butter biscuit arrived with no honey on it. I'll never order from here again and I don't recommend.

  • Yonnie

Owner seemed ok but was talking to someone else prolonging bagging my donuts. He was really distracting. When I got home to eat my donuts. They were so small and stale and my honey bun I ordered was so greasy. I would not recommend this place.

This place has the best biscuits and breakfasts! The veggie and cheese omelet was delicious, as was the egg and cheese biscuit I got. The staff is so kind and the prices can't be beat. Plus you have the donut shop right next door, with the best glazed Boston cream donuts ever! Buttermilk drop bakery is a must go for anyone in Nola

  • Karl Moles

Good fresh donuts for dirt cheap, fantastically tasty. I've never tried any of their other options, but the one thing I do wish they had is a slightly wider selection of flavors. They never seem to have anything with chocolate glaze, for instance. On the other hand, the donuts they do have are top notch, as are the cinnamon rolls.

  • Jaimee Greenleaf

Their Buttermilk Drop donuts are fire! Best donuts I’ve ever had. I’m not much of a donut eater, but I had 2 at our employee meeting and was tempted to eat a third cause they were so good. I went for breakfast one day, and thought it was just ok. The biscuits were great, but nothing compares to those Buttermilk Drop donuts!

  • Michael Pleasant

First and last time.. Bad experience, lacks employee hospitality. Couple Employee’s has a terrible attitude to where i just Didn’t wanna eat the food i paid for. Mixed my food for someone else’s, then blamed me for the reason it happened while giving me an attitude. Definitely ruined my appetite and first time experience

  • J Goodman

It was my off day ALL I WANTED WAS SOME BUTTER MILK DROPS ORDERED A Dozen of drops and they were cooked in OLD OIL OR HALF COOKED OR SOMETHING. This is SO NOT COOL.Don’t get me started on the eggs lord , who ever cooked them has a lot of pain in the heart cause they was scrambled hard hard. Please don’t come to work mad.

  • Mocha Diva504

The cashier was very nice, but the quality of the donuts were not. The glaze is way too thick it’s more like icing instead of a glaze. The raisin squares were too dense it was more like a cinnamon roll in a square shape and again the glaze was way too thick. The glaze donut was the same, too dense and loaded with icing.

  • Winston Boyd

It's just breakfast, it shouldn't be soo hard to make a bacon, egg, & cheese biscuit. - Ordered shredded cheese, got American - My biscuit was dry, hard, & crumbled. - Bacon crumbled w/ the biscuit. - The little egg I had was flavourless All of this on top of my order being lost & having to wait an additional 8 mins.

  • Darina Vld

This spot should be on every travel guide! We got a couple donuts and decided to take a quick bite in our car. What can I say, my husband jumped out of the car and got more donuts immediately they are amazing and prices? Looks like they have not change them for a very long time. Very cheap for what it is …

  • Valenya Clark

Very bad service. Don't order through door Dash, Uber Eats because your food will be cold. They also forgot part of my order that I paid extra for. No biscuits with both meals. Tried to call several times regarding the missing items and no one picks up the phone. Poor service and food is just OK.

  • Lonchanney1

Just had breakfast from this business. We ordered two French Toast Breakfast plates by way of DOORDASH. The food was first cabin all the way... We have had their confections before but never tried the breakfast until today. Very pleased highly recommend you do as well. 5 stars isn't enough!

Visited for the first time today … and omg! Delicious, simply delicious! Ordered the buttermilk drop donuts and they are melt in your mouth deliciousness! No exaggeration! Definitely a must try! Also, they accept cash only so make sure you have cash when you visit! 5 stars!

  • Stacie Hupp

Prices are great. Service is fast. Atmosphere is about what you'd expect. One out of the three egg and cheese biscuits we got was some pretty weak effort though. I'm not sure there was even a whole egg on it. They also forgot our buttermilk drops. What did I come here for?

  • Sharell Belanfante

I ordered takeout. This is got to be the best breakfast I've had in the city since I arrived. My only regret is that I didn't order any more honey butter biscuits!

The food is so good I ordered bacon egg and cheese croissant and fried chicken wings omg the food was delicious like grandma cooking. I went next door and also brought donuts balls the best donuts ever…. Food so good will be back when we visit New Orleans again..

  • Gloria Hardin

Donuts were fresh and tasty. Buttermilk drops were delicious. I made a pig of myself because I rarely eat donuts. The service was quick even though it was crowded. I have not tried their breakfast menu, but the food looks good and the aroma will make you hungry.

  • Travis Deck

An Absolute Hidden GEM !!! A lovely small business that deserves all the praise they can get ! A must try when visiting NOLA the Buttermilk drops are scrumptious and unlike any donuts we’ve ever tasted. Having just moved here we are so glad we’ve found them.

  • Shar M

Great service, oh so yummy food & did I say the food was good, oh and the bakery oh my lord, so doggone good! I gave 5 stars for the taste of the food. Nothing else, its no seating area, decor or ambiance, the good is the msin and only attractions!

  • Oktober Simon

We ordered an omelette, chicken-n-waffles & grilled donuts - ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! This is hands down some of the best breakfast we have had here in New Orleans. I must add that we even ordered delivery via UberEats & expect some sort of

  • Shanielle Mcarthur

Doordash) Cold bland nasty grits, my toddler wouldn't eat them at all..patty sausage was undercooked. Hot sausage was burnt and old..eggs were bland cold..best thing was the donuts..I'll never get a breakfast plate there again..just gross

  • Miguel Perez

The buttermilks were scrumptious. And the jelly donuts were perfect. Next door they had the best fried chicken it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I had 4 PC chicken and biscuits and a can soda for less than 6 dollars.

  • Sierra Barnett

Would love some tables and chairs one day to enjoy the big tree outside while we ate but it's a stop and grab kinda place! Great portions and the namesake donut is so creamy and smooth. People here seem like they are at home :)

  • Nikou N

I just always hate the struggle to park, other than that the chicken is so good & the wait isn’t long even if it’s busy. They did charge my card twice though, maybe it was an accident. Everyone is polite and professional.

  • Angela hollier

This was my first time trying this spot. I have to say that the buttermilk drops were pretty good but I would have preferred them if they were fresh out of of the glaze. I will try them again the next time I am in NOLA!

  • Asia Greer

I got this through DoorDash the scrambled eggs had no cheese, the hot sausage looked slapped together and wasn’t even hot, the potatoes was the only decent part and it all looked like jail food I had to throw it away.

  • Kevin Turner

Great donut drops, friendly staff, no place to sit( order and go), could be in better location, not much room for parking but you can park across the street, overall a good place to stop by when in New Orleans

  • Ripple Tamplin

If you're seeking delicious delights paired with top-notch service, look no further than Buttermilk Drop Bakery. paradise for dessert lovers, offering a delectable range of treats that cater to every craving.

  • Chris-ten

Ordered though Uber Eats and three items from my order are missing. One star because regardless of if the food is good you have to be able to fulfill an order. And the biscuit they have was burnt to a crisp.

  • R. W. Adams

Great place to get breakfast and donuts. Had the Shrimp and Grits with a biscuit. I live out of town and had to get the buttermilk drop donuts and an Apple Fritter. All was delicious but get there early.

My order arrived late and food was cold and not tasty. The grits were bland, the eggs were overcooked. The drop donut’s were like large balls of bread, grease and some. The worst breakfast I ever had

  • carol charles

It is impossible for your business to be making a profit with this much bacon in the omelette! I did not enjoy it I barely got any egg. This is what was left after eating the egg it was wrapped in

  • Michelle Landingin

AMAZE-BALLS!!! Just like the name, Buttermilk Drops is where it’s at! So soft and moist - you just have to savor it and enjoy the moment! These are addicting! Def a distraction from the Beignets!

  • Ardell Leblanc

1st time trying this place and the food was real good. I had the Hot Sausage Omelet and it was Awesome. Full off hot sausage and cheese. I think I'll try the French Toast Meal next time i visit.
