Disclaimer: I have been using Jackie's shop since 2003 in their old location, so I *may be* biased. Jackie has been looking after 3 import vehicles for our family (318ti, 325xi, X3) since 2003. He's always thorough and we feel like we are always well looked after. Sometimes I'll pick up my own parts on ebay or amazon and he'll install them without flinching - unlike other shops. Sometimes I show up with ridiculous DYI mechanic-wannabee, "Hey I heard about this in the BMW forums" questions or requests and Jackie and Ivan always set me straight - without making me feel like an idiot. I appreciate this because it allows me to troubleshoot ahead of time and bring in the car with some leads before they start working on it. First time there, I took the BMW 318ti for a pre-purchase inspection with the dealer in the passenger seat. Jackie topped up the AC for something ridiculous like $20 and ran a few tests for me. Because the AC was not working - this was the only way for me to test the system before buying the car. I was blown away that a $125 top up only cost $20 at CVI and Jackie was so honest about it. On my 325xi he installed a refurbished alternator that died after 16 months. Since it was refurbished by a local company (not my part) I inquired after pulling out my old receipt about the length of the warranty. He then replaced the alternator free of charge even though it was our of warranty and wanted nothing for his labour. I gave him some money anyway to cover his time and dropped off a 12 pack of microbrew beer for the boys in the shop. Troubleshooting: I always take my car in for expert advice if there's anything that seems weird - BMWs are prone to errors and oddities in our experience, especially when you buy used (like we always do). When we bought the X3 I had the BMW Store do a thorough inspection for $375. Very useful and it helped me negotiate a better price at the dealer. One of the issues found was broken pig tails on the rear struts. A very common problem on a car that's 8 years old and our of warranty. When I took it into CVI Ivan was like "You HAVE to fix this" so I obliged. We found some aftermarket struts for cheap and he hoisted the car up to have a final look. Lo and behold none of the pigtails were broken! (Not sure what happened at the dealer there - draw your own conclusions). So he just told me "come here have a look - do you see anything broken?". How many shops would do that ? Just saved $1200 right there. After buying my 325xi I was all excited and wanted to maintain it in pristine condition. I was asking Jackie about doing a Service I and Service II as is dealer recommended at regular intervals ($450 and $850 respectively) and he said :"Don't waste your money, if something is broken, bring it in and we'll fix it" How can you argue with that, for an out of warranty car? Right now I'm having issues with electrical gremlins on the X3 - something that can be incredibly expensive to trouble shoot - especially at the dealer. Jackie put his best BMW computer tech on the car with two different computers and through 4 different sessions we started to narrow down the problem. It was ghastly to start! My wipers were not working, the horn was out, the heated seats didn't heat, the rear wiper was dead, the steering wheel buttons were non functions - and then - the problem would fix itself at random !!! Ordered a few parts and started swapping out to further diagnose. At some point I threw my hands up in the air and decided to take in the car to Brian Jessel for a more detailed analysis. Eventually between Brian Jessel and CVI I narrowed it down to the ignition switch grounding out and taking down the whole K-Bus. I replaced the part myself although Brian Jessel wanted $950 to run the same fix. tl;dr - If you want to save money, get honest car advice and talk to someone who genuinely cares about you as a customer (and not as walking wallet) go see Jackie or Ivan, Tell him Yanni sent ya ! My Dad has started using CVI for both his out of warranty AND his under warranty cars.
I have nothing but great things to say about this shop! My first experience with them was over a year ago. They recommended AGAINST a bunch of needless fixes another shop was telling me were URGENT. Their estimate also came quite a bit under what the other shop had quoted me for the same parts/labour. The last two times it was for an engine that was leaking oil, something that again another shop had supposedly fixed. Initially they did a less expensive fix to see if the problem would still occur. When it happened again, they were very honest with me and told me that they could fix it, but the problem would re-occur every 6 or so months and that it was a chronic problem with this type of car. They recommended that I buy a newer car, even thought it meant the end of easy money for them. I did buy a new car and then last week out of the blue they just phoned me and asked me how the car was doing and whether I still had problems with it. I was really pleased with their honesty and their restraint from completely gouging you like most mechanics would.
Went here on the strength of the google reviews to get a BC registration inspection done. (Price and review consistency were best in the area) Very happy that both Jackie and the google community have proved reliable. Clear, concise communication, grounded crew and left a feeling of trustworthiness. I'll definitely use them for regular services and they will be first port of call for anything more serious. I have a feeling that most of their business is by word of mouth or repeat customers.
We’ve been using CVI for over a decade on every car we’ve owned, from VW Golf, to GMC 3/4ton pickups, to a Saturn Outlook (strange one that was!), and now our Subaru. We always trust that Jackie and Ivan will recommend only the necessary repairs and maintenance, and charge surprisingly low rates. I bought a van with a warranty, but am ready to ditch the dealership and head back to these guys - they’re just the best. Don’t bother looking elsewhere. Just book in and go!
Got my car there for an out of province inspection. They failed me and suggested 3000$ of repairings and showed me where the problem was while my car was on the ramp. With a little help from google i found the value of parts around 500$ including transportation fees.So they wanted to charge 2500$ for labour.... The car passed the inspection in Canadian Tire a week after without fixing anything spending 130$ only! Just saying.....
The true classic neighborhood repair shop that you can really trust! They tell you what your car really needs fixed and what to keep an eye on for later. No surprise billing either, in fact, i asked for an oil change and they told me i dont need one yet! Very reasonable rates, fast and just an all around fresh change in a city full of shady service businesses...go there!
I couldn't ask for anything more from them. I had a clutch kit to install. Aftermarket as factory was way way too expensive. Got quoted a good labour cost for the job and it was done without any issues. Jackie even showed me that my tires on the inside were bald. If you need an honest, professional car mechanic then you've found the place.
Excellent service! Jackie was very quick, he got me in on short notice and had brake pads, rotors and wheel bearing done the same afternoon at a reasonable price, he solved my problems, truck rides great now. I'm from out of town but will definitely go straight to him next time I need service in the city.
Jackie was incredibly honest, kind, and professional when fixing my Mercury Cougar on numerous occasions. He was able to quickly identify the issue and find the most cost-effective way to fix it - priceless qualities in a mechanic! I recommend him without reservation.
Jackie is a stand-up guy; trustworthy and knowledgeable. In a former lifetime he was an aircraft mechanic, so if you want your car to be maintained to the high standards of an aircraft mechanic, he's the mechanic for you.
Great experience. Quick service, but thorough. Told me the price before hand and didn't try to add in extra fees. I'll be a returning customer for whatever auto repairs I might need in future
An amazing experience with CVI today, same day pick up, assessment, accurate quote and quick repair, before you know it I was back on the road. Ivan and Michael are a great team!
My car was making a loud sound. He was able to get me in on short notice and was able to fix it by the next business day. Great service and fair. Highly recommend!
Very prompt service; all work is explained prior to work.. and at completion. Explains what to look out for in the future.
