Employees don't know how to cook. I watched the cook make pancakes. He flipped them 5 times and pressed down with the spatula. That's how you get thin & rubbery pancakes. You're supposed leave them cook until the surface is dry and there are bubbles around the edges, then you flip the pancakes only once. Never pat the pancake with the spatula because that pops all the air bubbles and makes the pancake flat & rubbery. They should be light & airy. This is basic knowledge. Also don't tell the customer no when you have a simple request on a slow day. I ordered 2 scrambled eggs with feta & onions. I was told, "ok", but the cook made plain scrambled eggs and packed it up. I said that was wrong. I explained that I ordered with feta & onions and was told ok. He just dumped feta & raw onions on top of the eggs and I said no. I wanted them cooked inside. He said that is an omelette. I said an omelette is 3 eggs with milk. He refused to make 2 eggs the way that I ordered even though initially he said okay! He had all the ingredients and I didn't care how much I was charged. He still said no. Really? I walked out without any breakfast. Who says no to a customer? It was slow and easy order. They just never made it that way before so they said no. They lost my business and I will tell everyone I know what happened there. They will lose even more business. Dumb move. I would have paid anything.

incredibly disgusting attitude from the owners. they assume that their customers can't speak the same language and understand the way they trash talk about their customers that come in. the owners body shamed and talked in a horribly offensive way about their customers in regards to their weight and looks, assuming that they couldn't understand what they were saying. when confronted, they outwardly called them curse words and derogatory terms instead of apologizing to the customers. i've never experienced or witnessed such a horrible attitude in my life, it's best to say that if you don't want to be harrassed or be trash talked behind your backs, you should avoid this place. from other reviews, i can also see that the owners discriminate their customers based on other aspects like their race, etc. this is an unacceptable and disgusting behavior, and i would leave a negative review if i could. not returning again, and i advise other people to stay away as well.

Out of all the delis I’ve been to in New York, this probably the WORST service I’ve ever had the misfortune to experience. Before i could even order anything the lovely cashier warned me that we’re not allowed to go inside without purchasing anything (they have an incredibly smelly dining area upstairs that’s FOR CUSTOMERS ONLY). All I wanted was a gum and coffee. I pulled out a card to pay and she started to take the customers order behind me while pointing at the sign that said cash only for orders of $7 or less. I had to elbow my way back to the counter to give her my money. The rudeness she displayed makes me wish I could give negative stars in a review. If it’s a cafe you’re looking for, go to Seven Grams, Starbucks, Cafe Grumpy or any of the other 50 cafes in the area. Same goes for delis: Bono, 29th Street Deli, etc. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE

Absolutely disgusting unacceptable attitude from the owners. I just bought from here just now and as I'm waiting a little boy no older than 10 walks in sweating profusely, he kindly asks the owner for napkins where she then tells him this is not his home and that not to bother her. I was absolutely shocked by her response and intervened stating that he is just a little kid. She immediately snaps back telling me to mind my own buisness amd begins mubling under her breath after I told her that how she speaks to customers was unacceptable. Very very rude and the food is honestly not that good and extremely over priced. Don't waste your time this place doesn't even deserve 1 star. Go to 32ndstreet food gallery where the food is much better with larger portions and cheaper. I never leave reviews let alone bad ones, but that lady was an absolute jerk.

this place was so bad i want to give it a zero . but bc that’s not possible , i give it a one . this place is disgusting because of the owners. the food is overpriced and the staff call the customers names in korean assuming that they won’t understand , and when they do understand and confront them , they get cursed at even more . i witnessed it today myself when i saw a group of girls get called very disrespectful names in korean , and when they made it known they could understand , the owner started cursing . don’t support this location , the owners have no respect for customers at all . the food was also made as if it was just thrown together and was not what i expected for the price . i also did not appreciate eating and witnessing this whole situation . it was truly sickening and should not be taken lightly .

If I could give this place a negative star I would! Today was my first and last time at this cafe. My sister and I are traveling from out of town and we stopped by cafe 28 for a bite to eat. The employees were sooooooooooooooooo rude!!! There were two ladies standing behind the counter. My sister asked one of them can we seat ourselves and she completely ignored her. So we stood there looking lost and I decided to ask where should we place our order. To my surprise the lady walked away from me and as she walked by pointed to the other side of the restaurant!! I'm glad to see others have had a pleasant experience here and I'm sure they have great food. However, it's not always about the food but the quality of the service. At the end of the day it cost NOTHING to be kind to people.

  • Samar M

I come here all the time to get a salad and today I'm giving them a 1 star not for the food because that's amazing but for the service...the guy at there's a little Asian guy who serves the food and also does the deliveries who was rude. I was creating a salad and asked him to hop it and he did it half way and when I asked him to chop it more he said "I already chopped it, there's more people waiting" (which there was only one lady and she just got there at the same time I did) with an attitude. I'm paying for the salad not getting it for freee so I should get it how I want it. Point blank. Highly annoyed because service is everything. That's how you keep your business running. Be humble!

Not a coffee shop as the name suggest, is a typical dinner/pharmacy/corner store. They have prepared food that is sold per weight, plus a sandwich/pizza counter where you can get something prorated to your taste. I did like it when visiting New York as the price is right and they are open weekends. You may get more privacy at the tables on the second floor. There are long cues on the single (? I'm not sure there is only one, I didn't ask just went to the one in the second floor). Probably because oft the same bathrooms are not clean and smell as a train station bathroom. Service is efficient to the point of rudeness, but I went there for food, not for a long lasting friendship.

  • LK

Owner/staff is INCREDIBLY rude and is very two-faced. None of the food are properly labeled so I didn't know which food was what, and all other packaged snacks were all very overpriced. Coffee tasted horrible and went cold very fast, impolite and ill-mannered owner/staff who likes to trash talk customers and judge them based on looks and race, really took the icing on the cake. If so many people are raising concerns about owner/staff behavior for years, they should change but they are super condescending and act like customers are just some hassle. Please take your business elsewhere and do not engage with these unpleasant mean nasty people with unappetizing overpriced "food".

  • Tony M

I'm not sure where the reviews are coming from about the staff being rude. Met my friend there today and we're both legally blind. One female staff member helped us and she was an absolute sweetheart. She helped us get seated, and helped me get a slice of cheesecake and an iced coffee, both of which were fine. My vision isn't great, but the bathroom looked clean enough. The neighborhood is filled with drug infested street trash, but it's a Democrat run city, so that's typical. Nice place in the middle of a Socialist sewer.

I work around this place and I often go there for breakfast, the food is good but the staff is not one of the best, specially the cashiers, they will overcharge you so you can pay with your card because they have an $8 minimum policy and they won’t tell you, be careful!! I bought a bagel worth of $3 and went to pay with my card, she told me there was an $8 minimum, i proceed to add a muffing and the total should’ve been $5.50, she didn’t tell me i needed to add more instead she just charged me for $8, i wasn’t offered a receipt either, i know it doesn’t sound too much for some ppl but this is not fair with customers specially during this time.

  • James Ng

My experience was not good. I ordered a prosciutto di Parma sandwich and they used domestic, basically ham and put pesto sauce all over the bread to try to disguise it. Everything in the refrigerator was warm.when I asked for a cup of ice she told me it was another $1.50 after touching my warm beverage... the whole experience sucked. I should have left at the register when asked to pay for ice... my loss is your gain. DO NOT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU'RE CRAVING TERRIBLE FOOD, FALSE ADVERTISING AND TERRIBLE SERVICE... other than that everything else was great... A wonderful establishment for those who know nothing about food or service. ENJOY!!!

  • naquazia gresham

This place is overpriced! $2.75 for a bagel with cream cheese & the charged $25 cents for tax. The area this store is located has two homeless family shelters directly around the corner. Their prices are constantly changing for the people living in the shelters. The is no source of payment besides cash or credit. Two breakfast sandwiches & 2 drinks for my son & I always comes up to$22 . I don’t think this is legally right and what like for this place to be investigated. It’s just not right .. oh & let’s not talk about the drunk guys on the 2nd level who spend hrs drinking beers inside the store..

  • Chris Gregory

Quick and simple sandwiches for $11. Good phili cheese steaks and turkey clubs. Chicken club is garbage never order. The chicken is incredibly dry and gross. Each guy makes the sandwiches slightly differently & includes different portions of ingredients. Sometimes you have to ask multiple times for any modifications you want to make. Most of the time the service is good though. Really nice seating area upstairs.

If it wasn't for their credit AND debit card minimums, I might stop here slightly more often. In addition to your typical self-serve purchase-by-weight buffet (vegetarian and non-veg options), they've got a counter where you can get soups and have sandwiches made for you. If you're looking for snacks, they have an assortment of cookies and chips and beverages to keep your stomach from grumbling. My friends swear by their udon noodles (for a reasonably-priced, reasonably-tasty lunch option), but I haven't indulged yet.

  • Mark B Borg Jr

Love love love this place---love the fact that one can come in right in the middle of the New York City grinding grind, grab a cup o' Joe--or whatever--slip upstairs and breathe...finally breathe. What a lovely spot, right at the center of the universe, to trudge up the stairs, blueberry bliss bar in hand, and--for but the briefest expanse of time--let the whole world go rolling along without our own Sisiphean effort! Phew...breathe, just breathe...the world can still turn without your own mighty, mighty umph!

  • James Grubbs

Very impressed with the service my family received here!! We were looking for a coffee/hot chili late spot due to the cold and found this great place!! Everyone was so nice and helpful to us as we were trying to figure out our next destination! Coffee was delicious, had a great taste and I also recommend the hot chocolate!! It was delicious as well and not your typical hot water and chili ate packet! Highly recommend!!

The food in glass counter looked old, the ham on my egg sandwich tasted not bad but getting there, the atmosphere in the upstairs dining area was nonexistent and there were 4 guys drinking beer up there at noon. Nothing against day drinking but they had a creepy vibe. There was another guy sleeping across 3 chairs. All this for $10.50. Take my advice. Go next door to the salad place. I wish I did.

Since we wander during late nights in NYC, we had to find a spot that's open 24/7 and has some snacks/food, so we found this place. It has everything - brownies, icecreams, noodles, salads! I got a salad last time and everything was freshly made and I loved it. The only thing is that, they have only one restroom which is upstairs and upstairs is filled with drunken people. So sometimes it gets uncomfortable to use the restroom. Overall it's a bit pricy but worth the quality.

  • Linsey M

A great place to get take away or eat in with a large selection of hot and cold foods and various counters with a wide range of food options. There is a salad and fruit, hot buffet selection and sandwiches made to order. The food is of a high standard and reasonably priced. It is great of you want take away but have a healthier option. There are seats inside where you can enjoy the food and watch the world go by too. A great option no matter what time of day or night.

  • Maria Palma

Incredibly rude customer service, they spoke Korean and luckily our friend understood them when they started saying rude comments about us, on top of that they insist on the $7 card policy yet when I paid they let me when it was &6.50 but berated my friend over a misunderstanding that they were about to pay $4.50 with their card when in fact they were going to pay in cash, almost yelling at them. The items are overpriced as well. Please don’t waste your time here

  • Pooja 'Kat' Dhawan

I spent a mere $5.82 to grab a hot snack in the evening at this deli before heading to an event. The selection at the hot bar was pretty routine. The food however was very very salty and dry. It was probably sitting there all day or sitting in the kitchen all day, did not make for very chewable snacking. Other than the salt, the taste of the foods was not bad. I'm guessing this might be a better fit for lunch when the food is prepared fresh.

  • Tania Guardiola

Decent hot and cold foods - from the grill foods, salads, sandwiches and paninis, soups and a variety of supermarket products... enough to choose from for all tastes. Sitting upstairs with plenty of room for big crowds as well as on the main floor. In short - decent food. Pricier than most. Staff: hit or miss - you have the ones with an attitude, the sweet ones and the cooks getting their flirt on. $8 minimum on cc’s. (UGH!) Average overall.

  • michael mulholland

This is a criminal organization. Today I used their ATM and it shorted me $20.00. They said not their problem, call the number on the machine. The number is always busy. While I was there more people were using the machine and were being shorted. I asked them why did they not put a sign on the ATM to say it was broken. NOT THEIR PROBLEM The food sucks, the staff is uncaring and they are ripping you off, other that that great place

  • Allen

Great big deli-like coffee shop mini market in the flatiron district. From buffet style hot foods to made on the spot sandwiches this is a nice little place to get a bite to eat. Prices are a little in the high side but it's to be expected given the location. Will be pretty busy during peak hours like lunch time but service is relatively fast!

This place sucks. Don’t place orders on seamless. They’re fax machine never works and they never get orders. Even though the seamless app is telling you it’s being prepared and that’s it’s on its way. When I got to cafe28, the cashier knows absolutely nothing. The cook comes and tells me that the fax machine is broken. This is the 3rd time...... go elsewhere

  • rinchen gurung

Very bad customer service and everything is over priced. Fat korean guy with glasses was at cash counter and he doesn't know how to speak with customer. He should learn some manners rather then yelling at customers. You guys are not giving free food to us we are paying for everything so try to be gentle with your customer from next time. Very disappointed

Was recommended to come here, then I saw the bag of bagels in what looked like the same brand I get from Walmart (which are ok, but if I have a choice I’d rather get a fresh local one)….. so I went elsewhere. But they have a great drink and convenience store selection. If ya like this review hit the like and or follow button. Have a great day!!!!

Went there to have coffee, late in the night. On asking if they are closing, the asian guy yelled at me for asking that. An Asian guy there. Be advised, there is a good chance you will leave the store embarrassed. As many other reviews here have mentioned, the service is awful and the response to any question is humiliating.

  • shehriar8ball pool

They were very rude I told them to give me a fork and spoon they said you have to buy them for $0.25 for each. They are stupid, I don’t want to give them a star, also I don’t want to talk about the food they serve it’s to bad to smell. I don’t want to right a review for them I wrote it because I want everyone to know that

  • Catherine

It serves the purpose I have for it, coffee & people/street-watching joint, very well. Yup, the coffee is unremarkable, it's also a buck fifty. It has an attractive, roomy seating area right at its 5th Ave windows & continuing along the south wall. Nothing special, but no complaints; very convenient & useful for me.

  • bob jiwiligers

Okay lunch spot, very typical NYC deli with buffet bar, sandwich station, burgers, texmex, etc. Everything you expect from this sort of place, and nothing inherently wrong with it either. However, there are better alternatives within a few blocks that offer more selection, better food, for the same price point.

Stopped in for coffee- phenomenal!! Hubbs had a black iced hazlenut (no sweetener) and I had regular iced with cream (also, not sweet)- roast was good, and it was incredibly fresh. We also had an Oreo brownie, and it was gone before my husband and I knew where it went! Fantastic cost, and fantastic food!!

  • Chelsea Shope

Actually the worst place I have ever experienced ordering from in New York City. I live four streets from this cafe and received a call 45 minutes post-placing an order that my apartment was "too far" for delivery and that I would not receive a refund. This place is disgusting and the meat is fake.

Big selection of food for lunch, really convenient if you work nearby. They also have general small groceries, similar to what you'd find at a Gristedes. Pretty clean and there's an ATM too, though they do take credit card. Prices aren't as low as 7 Eleven, but for the convenience, is worth it.

  • YDB

Excellent food and very polite service. I took my daughter and late son on a walking tour of New York City 2 years ago and this deli was our lunch rest stop along the way. We will never forget your deli as you made one of my last memories with my beloved son unforgettable. Thanks so much.

Very nice buffet-style lunch. Lots of fresh options, hot & cold choices. Paninis and wraps are great! Custom make-your-own salad station. Large seating area upstairs. Open 24 hours! Cashiers are quick & efficient. The main floor can get crowded and the prices are a little high though.

Yummy Breakfast - Horrible Customer Service. The chip on my card is not working and the cashier made a big deal about it saying she wouldn't take it next time. They'd rather lose money and a customer than just swipe my bloody card! I won't be going there again. Good food or not!

  • Natasha Noneya

Morning chef is always rude to me. Morning check staff does not know how customer service work and rude. I go there morning and night. But after this morning's behavior by both chef and check staffs, they are not going to see my wallet for a while. Store items are overpriced.

They have a habit of getting orders wrong (like not putting bubbles in the tea when you asked for them). The savory crepes are very meh, sweet ones are pretty good. Good service though, they don't hesitate to rectify an order if they get it wrong.

This place gets a 5 piece of stars as far as NYC cafes are concerned. 24 hours and has one of the drink selection I've witnessed in at least several weeks lol. They have good food on their meal lines and it is never old or crusty.

  • Christina Collada

Large selection of sandwiches and deli snacks. My usual is a breakfast sandwich and green tea. Always a lot of cops when I go in, which makes for an odd atmosphere, but the cops are usually friendlier than the sandwich makers.

The food is overpriced, the buffet is disappointing and the bathroom is best avoided. On the plus-side: it does have a large table upstairs that's good for meeting with a group of people and the beer is inexpensive.

Been looking for a 24-hour café as Covid restrictions are lifted, so was happy to find this otherwise run-of-the-mill delicatessen last week. Plenty of seating, friendly employees, so-so coffee.

I was immediately impressed with the cold and hot bar food options. It was wonderful to stop and grab a reasonably priced, reasonably healthy lunch on the go. Would definitely go again.

  • Joshua Kronengold

Salad bar is overpriced and not great in the evening. And the high prices aren't warranted after hours either. But the space is decent and plentiful, and they can make decent burgers.

This rating is strictly for the Cholula Special sandwich. It's incredible. If you're in the area during lunch time on a weekday, come by and get one.

If you work or live in the neighborhood, this is a great clean place with a variety of reasonably prices options. That run frequent lunch specials.

  • Shannon Baker

Food was okay, similar to any regular buffet style place. Food is wayyyyy too expensive i paid 13$ for a 5 square inch container. Ridiculous.

Terrible service and very disrespectful staff members, coffee was also very terrible and coldly watered down, will never return again.

  • Cedar Mittig

Open late, gets the job done. Go here late after work for a chicken salad on a bagel and a beer, and scarf them down on the mezzanine.

  • Wentao Xu

thought he said 28$ but got charged 38$ for 12 white claws and a liter bottle of water…what a scam, didn’t even scan the items

  • Nisar Palla

Spacious deli with huge offerings of hot and cold food, salad bar, and soups etc not unlike many other in Manhattan.

  • Minista Jazz

I love their salad bar and icef coffee. It's a good place for a quick bite with plenty options for your appetite.

  • Caroline O.

Love the selection and the taste is great but their prices are just highway robbery for what they are serving.

  • Vamshi Rao

Great gourmet deli for a quick take away. Their bagel with sun dried tomato cheese & fried egg is very yum.

  • David Smith

It has too oil in the food. I even put the tissue in my food to remove the oil They should put less oil.

  • David B. Alexander

Excellent variety of food and beverages, with ample seating. The bathroom however is somewhat repellent.

  • Chocolate Top

Great place to grab a bite on the go or enjoy your meal at either their indoor or outdoor dining areas.

  • Ray Rock
