Since a friend guided us to visit Carrick Hill some years ago, we come here at least once a year. Every time we feel new. Carrick Hill is a significant South Australian cultural tourism attraction. It comprises a major heritage building, being the previous home of Sir Edward and Lady Ursula Hayward, internationally significant art collections, original subsidiary buildings such as stables, and approximately 40 hectares of land which includes approximately 26 hectares of native bushland. It’s unique in that in any one visit to Carrick Hill, we can admire and marvel at the magnificent heritage gardens, view and appreciate the highly valued art collection, changing exhibitions and beautiful interiors of the house. “The story book trail” and log cabins are especially suitable for children to play with. It is also a famous wedding venue. Excellent food and wine can be enjoyed while taking in the breathtaking views over the city of Adelaide.

I recently visited Carrick Hill and it was such a delightful experience. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the house itself is stunning. It was so interesting to learn about the history of the property and the family who lived there. The staff were also incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The highlight for me, though, was the sense of relaxation I felt while wandering around the gardens. It's such a peaceful and serene place, with plenty of spots to sit and take in the views. I particularly enjoyed the rose garden, which was in full bloom when I visited. Overall, Carrick Hill is definitely worth a visit. It's a nice place to spend a few hours or a whole day, depending on how much time you have. I left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated - something that's hard to come by in today's busy world. Highly recommended!

What a beautiful place to showcase how the wealthy lived , if u ever wanted to feel like you are in a romantic novel taking a stroll in the garden this is the place to be , the gardens are out of this world spectacular, its beautifully preserved time capsule of opulence, hard work and grace all in one .it makes for a beautiful walk , well suited for couples , solo self reflection walks or even with children along as they don't expect a play ground (there isn't one ) however the multiple cubby houses which are scattered in the back part of the garden provide more than ample entertainment for the young ones . Moving on to the house itself there is a chance of attending high tea however I did not get a chance to experience it . Otherwise what a marvellous beautiful place this is and oh dis I mention that it is free with free parking as well .

Stunning gardens and beautiful historic house. They regularly have interesting exhibitions. There is art by well known artists throughout the house. The gardens also have a section for children to enjoy. Pretty difficult for wheelchairs to get very far, but there is a lift now in the house and the new area being built will have a lift as well.. The grounds are pretty steep and a lot of the stairs do not have rails to hold on to so it is pretty hard going for those with mobility issues. The house is two storeys with a magnificent grand staircase. The new pavilion with its amazing large windows will provide a stunning view of the gardens and a large event space. Perfect for weddings.

Nice spacious marquee set up next to the rose garden. Friendly staff. Food was not bad but slightly on the pricey side, you pay for the view, as you get a beautiful view of the garden. Carrick trails are very pretty to have a nice stroll after the meal. Pate was quite a generous serving, you can ask for extra toasts as well. Quite delicious. The slow cooked beef was not tender enough, and the sauce was really salty. The mushrooms in it was really good though, and the polenta helped with the saltiness of the sauce as well. Eggs benny was standard, with runny yolks, cooked to perfection and home made muffins. Done well. Hollandaise sauce could be a little bit thicker then it's perfect. Yummy mocha

Beautiful grounds. We brought our 3 year old and he loved the children's story book trail. It's a big area so you will be walking alot. Not really suitable for a pram, but you might able to. Some nice views of the city and our son (and me too) loved seeing the planes race down the runway and take off. You can even see all the way to the ocean. Will be back once the house is open and new visitor center. Easily spend 2-3hrs here and still not see everything. I imagine spring would be really pretty here. Winter was green but not many plants blooming. Still spectacular though

A truly stunning garden and courtyard to visit. We loved it. It is beautifully maintained and a great spot to relax, have a picnic and admire the gardens. The outdoor area is free to visit however if you'd like to give an optional donation you can. We didn't go inside (which does cost money) but I have no doubts it would be beautiful inside too. Highly recommend if you're looking for an outdoor experience - to walk around at a blissful place and admire different types of plants and flowers.

A very wonderfully maintained garden in the hills of Adelaide. I went there while I was in Adelaide for and the place is picturesque and a wonder to the eye. Looking over the small humble city that Adelaide is on a warm sunny day may be one of my go to get aways in the coming future. Would recommend for people of all ages. There was no need to wait, even for parking. It was strange to see a place this beautiful be so quiet. Maybe it might be because the site is quite far from the Adelaide CBD.

I read about Carrick Hill having an exhibition of Mid Century Moderns paintings in the Review, so decided to pop along to meet friends there at the Cafe and take in the exhibition afterwards. What a pleasant surprise it was. Gorgeous gardens, perfect for picnicking, and great views over the city, and an amazingly decorated mansion. House is not a good enough word for this splendid building. And the permanent collection of works on display was impressive. The exhibition was good too.

I'm a wedding photographer and let me tell you, it's a stunning place! With its rich history and beautiful architecture inside and out, if vintage and classic vibe are your thing like me, then you'll definitely dig this place! From lush gardens to old-school fountains and small corners full of charm, there's no shortage of cool spots! The team are super friendly and accommodating too! I'm 100% confident to say that Carrick Hill is a pretty solid choice for any soon to be married couple looking for a unique, historic spot to 'Say yes' :)

wonderful way to spend a morning afternoon or entire day. I came here twice with my partner, explored the grounds, the story book trail and had a magnificent 2 course dinner (good food!) cocktail and wine with gelato for dessert! staff are super helpful and friendly. The next day we came back to do a tour of the house then ordered a bottle of champagne to sit on the lawn enjoying our picnic and music would recommend to others and come back. this would be lovely on a spring and winter day rugged up with hot chocolates

A beautiful spot to come visit on a sunny day. Spent two hours here with my 3yr old and 1yr old. We went on the story book trail which my oldest loved (but the trail isn't very pram friendly but I did manage to push the pram up, down hills and stairs). Then we rested and had a wonderful picnic on one of the many lawns. Both kids had a great time exploring and enjoying the gardens. Then to finish it off we had baby cinos at the cafe.

So much character! We visited Carrick Hill, and there was plenty of car parking. The garden was beautifully maintained with lots of interesting places. You need to buy tickets when you enter the house. The house has two floors, and you can access the attic via an elevator. There is plenty to take in, so make sure you are not pressed for time. The entire place appeared to be wheelchair friendly.

It's a beautiful spot for a picnic with friends and chit-chat in the cool weather.....if not, there's nothing much here besides the garden (which isn't much now, in winter). The storybook trail is pretty overrated as the limited props and landscaping isn't quite impressive. That explains the limited photos of this area. The construction of the new Visitor Centre also takes away the ambience slightly.

A great place for a picnic or spend the day. There’s a cafe onsite that is a little pricey. Busy during weekends. While the garden is freely accessible, it costs $17 for an adult to visit inside the mansion. A huge land area that’s very well maintained. Lots of routes and paths for one to walk through and obs nature.

A good place for a picnic. Plenty of parking available. The cafe was closed when we visited for a private event. A good place for a walk and scenic views of adelaide in the distance. If you are looking to visit a mansion it is $17 for an adult. Kids under the age of 15 can visit for free.

Beautiful place! Must see! The house/museum Is currently shut for refurb but the gardens are still worth a visit! Just watch out for the bull ants as show in one of my picks... Dont let one of these bite you! And watch out for snakes... They're popular to be seen round there too. But lovely lovely gardens with beautiful animals of nature to be spotted at every turn ❤️

  • Kirby-Lee Staltari

Carrick Hill is set within the most beautiful grounds. There are stunning flowers, grass areas, the cafe and the storybook trail. It’s a wonderful place to walk around and enjoy time within nature. Definitely have the afternoon tea at Carrick Hill Cafe if you have time, but you do need to book in advance. Highly recommend @kirbystaltari

What an amazing place to visit in Adelaide. You can walk around the scenic views. Most of the people come here for private events and picnics. Free onsite parking and cafe too. I’m not recommending the cafe due to high prices and poor hospitality.

Very distinctive historical building. Here you can admire the gardens, hike in the mountains, and visit historic buildings (tickets sold separately). It's popular on weekends, but parking is free so you can drive there without worrying about parking.

A magnificent house to visit and experience yesteryear and the fabulous wealth and immaculate taste of the occupants who donated this house to the community. The gardens alone are worth seeing in their extent and quality of layout and upkeep.

Free entry to large beautiful gardens which are well kept and lovely place to spend a few hours picnic or for celebrations.. House entry is just 17 dollars per adult(consession rates available) , and worth having a look as it's wonderfully preserved and quite a beautiful house. Pets allowed in garden but not the house

  • wallace mcgee

Gorgeous lunch in a stunning setting, and friendly staff. It's absolutely worth spending the ticket price to have a look around the building and art works. Cute shop is a great spot to stock up on cards! I also have to put in a plug for the honeycomb gelati!

Always a delight to visit Carrick Hill. We visited for the flower display this time. It was a bonus that the current art exhibition is mid-century modern art. A new visitor centre is going up on the property also. It'll be interesting to see what it will offer.

Massive English style mansion with lots of open grass areas. There is a cafe there. The place is open a few days a week until 4 the afternoon. It was pretty underwhelming as most of the grass was pretty dry and yellow along with a massive tree blocking the view of the house from the main path toward the house

  • Neda Mn

A beautiful old house with magnificent gardens. The gardens are in full bloom this time of the year which makes it a lovely place to spend a day with the family. There is no entrance fee to enjoy the gardens but for visiting the house there's a fee. It's definitely worth a visit!

Great place to spend 2 to 3 hours with the kids, let them run around and explore the gardens, and just be kids.. Good toilets too, when you have kids, you need to know about toilets, or not.. I don't care much for old house visits so not been indoors to look.

  • Nitika Kandhari

A must visit place. The estate is huge, and it was nice to learn the history of Carrick Hill and the people. The place is amazingly beautiful. There's an entry ticket to visit inside the mansion, outside is free to roam around, but everything closes at 4.30pm

  • Alice

A very pretty area, great for picnic and kids to run around. The story trail is a very short walk, probably just the right length to entertain very young kids.

A grand mansion/museum/garden, built and maintained with passion. Went there twice in a month. In July the house museum was closed for annual maintenance. Returned today and toured inside. Cafe was also great. Well worth visiting for a few hours.

Carrick hill is beautiful. But what I love the most is taking little ones on the garden walk. Getting their imagination into gear. Getting them to explore and run around. You need to read the sign board at each areaso you know what to look

  • Angsophea Eng

This place was an interesting visit. Alot of antiques items with stories behind them which you can learn in depth about by buying it's story book from the gift shop in the castle. The entrance ticket can be bought at the place at $17 for

Unfortunately the building is getting renovated until May 2020 so we couldn't go and see that part. But after that I intend to go again. The gardens were lovely to take a stroll around in. Would be peaceful to go there with a book.

Lovely old house and gardens, showing signs of being cared for and maintained by an organisation rather than a family. Worth a visit, though.
