"Lovely little place, lots of shade in the summer and multiple entrances/exits"
"Within the immediate city centre of Leicester, Castle Gardens are a real gem"
"Castle Gardens in Leicester are absolutely beautiful"
"It's a nice park with several themed area's, it clearly had some thought put into its design, the Oriental area, zen garden, willow tree, and bridge are all highlights"
"Our puppy LOVES this park!! We come here every single day to give our pup a sniff of the amazing range of plants, flowers and trees here"
Lovely little place, lots of shade in the summer and multiple entrances/exits. Can be busier in hot weather but surprisingly isn’t a very popular location and I’ve always found there’s enough space for me to walk peacefully and have a sit down You can get to the riverside from here too, if you’re jogging or going for an extended walk, but the swans are conditioned to be fed by visitors so they might follow you LOL As of June 2021, the sign says it closes @ 8pm. I’m not sure if it’s true, as I’ve never been past 6pm. It does usually close early in October though (4:30pm ?) Lots of benches if you’re looking to take a rest. But there can be a lot of bugs obviously, so not a great place to eat IMO. Nice place to walk pets, it’s a No Fouling area and there are a lot of bins, so absolutely no excuse if you don’t pickup after your pet!! EDIT: I spoke to a maintenance man who says they aim to CLOSE AN HOUR BEFORE SUNSET because there’s no lights in the garden! So in the warmer months it closes later (between 6-8pm) but in the winter it closes early @ 4-6pm!! I went @ 7:30pm on June 7th 2021 and it was open, so definitely closing at 8pm for now.
Within the immediate city centre of Leicester, Castle Gardens are a real gem. Whilst the gardens have changed over the years, mainly due to financial constraints, they still warrant a visit. Many who work nearby, as I used to, visit during their lunchtime. Though bringing your own food and drink is required. Formal flower beds can be found alongside informal boarders. There is also some limited seating. The two ponds are now wetland habitats. The 'motte ' of the original Norman Castle is also close, obviously the reason for the gardens name. So space is available for ball games, but is limited.
Castle Gardens in Leicester are absolutely beautiful. The different Trees, Flowers, Birds and Butterflies. You can sit on a seat with a table and watch the Swans, Geese and even rowers in boats go by. Have a picnic on the many ample spaces, where there are more types of flowers and trees. There is also a MayPole in the centre of Castle Gardens. Not far from the City Centre. A place of peace and rest.
It's a nice park with several themed area's, it clearly had some thought put into its design, the Oriental area, zen garden, willow tree, and bridge are all highlights. In short a nice bit of nature not too much of a trek away, plus bonfire night and a few other events are there with some food and ice cream vans to keep you fueled for a day out if any of the reasons above attract you.
Our puppy LOVES this park!! We come here every single day to give our pup a sniff of the amazing range of plants, flowers and trees here. There's lots of opportunity to sit and enjoy the views here: there's swans, squirrels, other doggies and nature here. Plenty of benches to have a rest and a great place for pictures too! Have a look at our puppy enjoying himself here!
Castle Gardens is a peaceful green space beside the Grand Union Canal in Leicester. The gardens are the ideal place to stroll amongst beautiful flowerbeds and lawn, rest your feet on a bench or enjoy a picnic overlooking the canal. The park is well-accessible by public transport. It is a small but beautiful park which has good views of the canal.
I like the history and there are points of info during your visit. I enjoyed the walk up the steps to the top of the mound where they used to play cricket! It's a lovely view from there I recommend people to visit. Even if they aren't into the history it's a lovely place to have a walk!!
These gardens were lovely to wander around, making visitors welcome from the start with an introductory sign! Signs throughout provide information about the different areas for them and there is many, including different trees, leaves, bushes and hedges, even a net-like wood formation.
A little gem on the fringe of the city, groomed by a council that cares. Enjoy this escape from the sounds of the city sit on a bench for a lunch time snack, or go for a historic meander up the mound. I've often seen this idillic space used for wedding photography.
Had a great stroll through this 'pocket' park by the river. Lots of information boards and the castle mound was open. Very busy, but still a little bit of a hidden gem for leicester. Very close to De Montfort Uni Csmpus so well used by students.
With some TLC this place could be lovely. In its current state it's not a pleasant place to visit. It's extremely dirty with cigarette ends, beer bottles and rubbish littered all over the place. It could do with a good clean and lick of paint.
Lovely place to visit and have a nice stroll around. Contains alot of nature such as differant plants, bushes and trees also differant species of bird. Near beautiful lakes with canoes and boats which is a great site for taking photos
A pleasant visit, assorted groups having picnics and Birthday parties (lots of places to take superb photos) lots of new plants and flowers now and of course the charming Squirrels doing their bit to help recycling from the bins
We enjoying our little sunbath time here and found this little trying to join us. Perfect place for relaxing while enjoy refreshing fruits. Just need a little cleaning from gardener in few spot the rest everything is perfect.
Nice gardens with views of the canal and also Leicester Castle and the Motte. Well kept with good planting and wildlife, such as squirrels, birds in the trees and swans on the Canal - Not far from the city centre.
Squirrels, rats and swans to see in the open area. Lovely little green area. Places to sit too. Recommend for 2 to 5-year olds for exploring (some information boards too) 3 hour street parking near by, at a cost.
Walking over to the citycentre from Tesco, we passed through the Castle Gardens, next to the canal. Pretty canalside gardens, with lots to see and explore. Lots of benches and info signs. Highly recommemded.
I find it a lovely garden but I sat down to eat my cob. when a rat popped it head out the undergrowth to say hello.i know this can't be helped has its next to a canal just came as as shock.
My favourite for a city walk. Nestled into the city centre this garden is situated by the canal and is rich in local history. Its a lovely stop off for some time out of a busy day.
A very beautiful place, quiet in nature. A place where you can relax in your free time or whenever you need a getaway in nature or when you go out with children or your pet.
I go through this park most days. It's a really great place to sit and unwind for a while. A lovely green space in the middle of the historic quarter of the City …
A picturesque, historic walk through Old Leicester that saw the York King Richard III leave alive and days later return dead while Henry Tudor paraded by Castle Gardens
Lovely place to have a nice stroll with the dog. Lovely landscaped gardens in a traditional victorian setting with some nice events held here during the summer months.
Nice little garden by the canal, very friendly squirrels and robins. Do walk up the motte for some information about the old keep and a half decent view.
One of the favourite places to have some peaceful time in Leicester. The view and the greenery makes me so calm and soothed. An incredibly lovely place
Very peaceful, lots of information boards about the history of the area. Have seen the park area from the canal but didn't know how to find it
Castle gardens is a wonderful riverside park with beautifully maintained grounds. A great setting for the Riverside Festival held every year.
Nice area to walk around. Not much to see this time of the year as it's January. But later in the year everything's will be growing again.
This is the best place during winter and Autum just next to soar river and DMU... for more information please watch my YouTube channel
Lovely idyllic gardens a great quiet place within the city to relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle of everyday city life
Lovely park, but we were there for 10 minutes and saw 6 rats :/ I've travelled all over the world and never seen anything like it
Great little park in the centre of town. Surrounded by Historic places of interest. The gardens are very well tended. …
One of the best kept parks in Leicester, beautiful in the summer and great for the kids to feed the ducks or just run around
Great place to pull up but got locked out of the park on our return from having a lovely meal no signs satatting this
Beautiful place to go and take the family. I really enjoyed the river side festival that was their last week.
Lots of quiet places to soak up the sun and see a plethora of common and uncommon plant species in flower!
It's a pleasant park just outside the city centre by the river soar. Nice for a walk or escape the bustle
A little bit of tranquillity in the middle of the city. Lovely riverside park. Bejous but very pretty.
A very serene and relaxing park with natures beauty at its best.a place best for you to be just alone
A nice park sometimes unsafe due to the people who hang around in there just be safe when visiting
Very well maintained garden with a variety of plants and flowers, including cherry blossom trees
Just a bit messy not really a place you can relax loads of rats but mainly used as a short cut
Nice serene atmosphere. Good for relaxing and some me time. Away from the bustle of city life.
I like the way new flowers bloom every week. Amazing place to relax and have a little break.
