Bahadurabad -- or Bahadur Yar Jang Cooperative Housing Society (BYJCHS, namesake of the famous orator of the Pakistan Movement), to use it's official name -- was established back in the 1950s as a housing scheme for people who arrived in Karachi, then capital of newly-independent Pakistan, from Hyderabad Deccan. The Hyderabadi community originally settled in Hyderabad Colony and PIB Colony, where some still remain, especially the middle to lower income families. The middle to upper income families gravitated to the new well-planned neighborhood of Bahadurabad, which eventually became recognized as a "posh" area. The locality has by now surrendered to the urbanization that started around 1990 and has changed (or even destroyed) the nature of the neighborhood. What used to be a community where everyone knew their neighbors from the previous generation back in the Deccan, it is now a place where the original one- and two-storey houses are being torn down, to be replaced with town houses, apartment blocks and even towers. Add to that the failure of government after government to take good care of the country and its citizens, and we have what anyone can observe today: frequently overflowing sewers, scattered heaps of garbage (not as bad as just 7-10 years ago, thankfully), unmaintained streets and parks, overpopulation and horrendous traffic, especially in the evenings. Apart from that, everything's great! The Chowrangi used to be just a round-shaped garden until about 20 years ago, when the "Charminar" was constructed upon it, which is just a model of the ancient actual Charminar that still stands straddling a square in the old city of Hyderabad (Deccan), with road traffic passing under it. The 4-minar model serves to remind the community of its roots in the Deccan. The original Hyderabadi community was drawn from people who came from across the subcontinent and even the Middle East, as the prosperous state of Hyderabad had many fine institutions serving to attract them. So did Karachi, the original capital of Pakistan! There is hope yet for the country, city and community. Optimism, combined with determined efforts, can yield great results. Around Charminar Chowrangi, we can see the materials of success: well-educated people, training and educational institutions, and prosperous businesses; too many to individually identify here -- look around, explore the surroundings, and you shall find! (Press HELPFUL//LIKE plz -- Thanks!)
Great place - full of life, doesn't sleep early, home of delicious food. Gets super busy on public holidays. I enjoyed the firework on Independence day's mid-night celebration. I live in Bahadurbad for more than 2 decades and request visitors to please show civic sense and keep it clean.
