I met my friend for a bite to eat at the "IHOP" restaurant on North Tryon and W.T. Harris after work. We thought it was a 24 hour establishment. Approximately 1030 pm the restaurant was empty and we found out that they close at 10 pm. A man entered IHOP and immediately approached us at the table asking for money to go to the shelter. However, you could tell he was under the influence of some drug. The man would not take no for an answer and started harassing the staff(that stated they call the police often for this man threatening customers and have problems at least 4 times a week from him). The man approached us again this time threatening us. The man stated he had been watching us. When i said i was calling the police he became hostile telling me i better not reach for my phone and he has nothing to lose. The waitress told him she was calling the police and he began threatening her. We were locked in the IHOP restaurant scared to leave and i called 911 1045PM. I EXPLAINED I WAS A NURSE AND WAS BEING THREATENED IN THE IHOP BY A HOMELESS MAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS AND COULD NOT LEAVE. THE IHOP WAITRESS TOLD ME TO TELL THE DISPATCHER THEY CALL SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK OVER THIS MAN. IT IS NOW 1246 AM AND THE DISPATCHER HAD MY PHONE NUMBER. NO POLICE OFFICER CAME. THE CHARLOTTE MECKLENBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT IS WORTHLESS. WE WERE HARASSED AND THREATENED. MY FRIEND AND I ARE BOTH NURSES AND WORK TO SAVE LIVES. THIS IS PATHETIC. WE FEARED FOR OUR LIVES AND SAT THERE HELPLESS. A POLICE OFFICER NEVER SHOWED UP OR CALLED MY CELL PHONE BACK. WORTHLESS..PROTECT AND SERVE ?? WOW.
Don't even bother call them for any non-violence related situations. Take them hours arrive at scene and couldn't care less about your loss. Called them today about dine and dashed and provide the video footage and the license plate of the flee vehicle and was told, hard to track an individual base on license plate and best he can do is drive around and see if he spot them. Lol, seriously? Not the first time people getting away from stealing or dine and dash in our business and CMPD- University have never follow up nor trying to control the criminal activities in the area. I was once told by officers that license plate, name and phone number isn't good enough to track down a guy and I need to provide the birthday of the suspect in order to find him.
Rude and outright condescending attitude towards somebody that is merely calling to get an update on his complaint. (victim of an assault) You are super lucky if somebody even picks up the phone after several days of calling and if they do you end up talking to a total simpleton that wants to make you believe that she is a GOD, interrupts your every sentence and then says to your face that she has the right to do so. My message to this front desk clerk is this: GO COLLECT TOLL ON THE NJ TURNPIKE and stop wasting taxpayers' money with your outrageous ignorance and manners straight from your 'hood. My review of the University City Police Dept front desk is ZERO stars.
University City Police Division Office underwent a major renovation and moved into the new building at 8500 North Tryon Street at the intersection with Ken Hoffman Drive. This move occurred about a year ago and information of this is not current on Google at this time. If you need immediate police assistance you need to call 911. The division offices do not have clerical staff 24-7, and officers are generally in the field where they are being dispatched. Non-Emergency situations can be handled at 311. Officers are generally in the field answering calls.
We called 311 and no answer. So we called 911 for non-emergency underage drinking, partying & noise disruption... could not sleep the last 3 hours due to that.. after the call, in hopes of the cops to show up, no one did. They actually begin to fight and about 4 dudes had to be with strain from what it looked like by friends. We sat helplessly and disrupted the rest of the night. Many of the apartments around complained and also told them to be quiet.. but no response from the dispatchers or cops this past night. Thanks
Extremely trigger happy, rude, and have no idea how to handle DV situations properly. Even when they were proven wrong, there was no apology after scaring the life out of me. Training definitely needs to be done but, given the reviews, I don't believe this division cares about proper training.
very bad they don't do their job they try to fix the problem the way they want to they don't go by the rule bad bad bad bad bad bad if you can't count on the police who should you count on they are very bad the university police
If you are filing a police report, you must do it online, not in person. Times are changing.
Called 911, they never came. Called them again and they said they were busy and hung up.
"The wireless number you called is not in service." Great job guys, Charlotte's finest.
Amazing no answer and then disconnected- great respect for the people they serve
