So it turns out Ethiopia no longer accepts evisa or on-arrival visa. The travel agency didn’t tell me because they did not know about this change at all. The embassy page (DC) has this info and says to go to the consulate in LA. I couldn’t get to a human being on the phone despite repeated attempts, but they had instructions on how to get a visa which was to get a money order for $70, 2 pics, and show up at the consulate before 1pm, and get your visa in 1 hr So, I followed the “instructions” and showed up the the consulate in LA. The door is locked and there is this short and sweet sign that says to direct all visas to the Washington, DC embassy. That’s it. That’s the next “instruction”. Call DC. The security guy at reception “thinks” they are closed for good. Called the DC embassy and no human being again. Lol. What’s the point of having an office space and posting your number on the website if you NEVER answer your phone? What exactly are they doing there? Free US vacation ? Lol Anyways, so my flight is in about 3 weeks. So I somehow found a travel agency in DC that will expedite this for me for almost 3 times the amount. Don’t feel comfortable mailing my passport to another city to people I do not know but I have no other options. So, that is basically how you now get a visa to Ethiopia now if you do not live in DC. Crazy.
Ethiopia had suddenly suspended their e-Visa system with zero notice. I called up the consulate. There did not appear to be anyway to speak directly to a representative but if you use their menu system, you get very clear instructions on the steps necessary to get a visa. Following the phone instructions, I decided to go to the consulate the next day. We were one of the first ones on line. The consulate representative was courteous. He then pleasantly surprised me by telling me, I would have my visa in one hour. That indeed was what happened. When I read the reviews, most of the negative ones appear to be related to an inability to talk to a representative. My message to all is listen carefully to the menu selections on their phone system and then personally go to the consulate to get what you need to get done.
A Good Joke! This office has phone number and a website for no legitimate reason. A leader claims he/she's leading when they can't even figure out so a caller can leave a voicemail pretty basic. There is one and one reason for that "Being Conservative". You should disconnect the phone and feed the needing life with the money going for a phone that never gets answered. The so called representative, when would you learn that you represent a country? I am assuming this is someone who's been to middle school and understand the basics on how to serve! If you can't lead, leave the spot! why wait until death takes over your chair. I am sure there are better minded people lost chance and drive taxi out there but if they get the chance, they are proven to impress the community.
My experience dealing with the consulate office in Los Angeles was exceptional. Very friendly, hard working people doing their best to represent their country in Los Angeles is what I saw inside once I was buzzed in the offices. My issue was addressed immediately, and the letter I needed typed up with no hassle whatsoever. Follow instructions on their web site or voice mail and you will be just fine. If its is an emergency, ( which is always for Ethiopians who like to wait till last minute ), just drive down there and take care of it with all due respect. The consulate is not here to babysit you, they are here to assist you so quit complaining. Thank you so much for all the hard working people at the consulate that helped me today.
There needs to be a sense of urgency when working with customers. I had a rather time sensitive paperwork to finish up and I felt like they couldn’t have cared less about when it can be processed. The lady on the phone went as far as yelling at me on the phone when I pressed her about what’s going on. It’s been 2 months and all I keep getting from them is that they don’t know where my documents are and if I’ll ever get them back anytime soon. Totally disappointed. There needs to be a better service time
Per another review. I too waited (25 minutes) for the next agent on the phone...only to have it roll to voicemail. I was helping an Ethiopian national at the location who relied on sign language. The former consulate left no forwarding info with the building's management office...nor did they remove their Google pages. I'm sure it was more frustrating for the woman who needed the consulate advice...only to see an empty space after opening the suite door...after driving all to the (now closed) office.
I’m extremely happy finding a reason to reverse my previous dissatisfaction review on this page about the service of this place. I realized that was “just an incident!”. If I could give 1000 stars for today’s support, attitude and responsiveness, I definitely would. Everything is phenomenal. Thank you the whole team and special thanks to Meseret & Adey!! You guys are wonderful.
If I could give a negative star I would. I have called this number several times, not once did anyone pick up. I have literally tried calling for months and left several messages , I have not received a call back from anyone. they should just go head and close the place, they obviously don't do anything all day.
What a great time I had at the consulate of Ethiopia my name is George Anton I’m the manager at 63631 Should Blvd. when we print passport photos for Consulate that they are 100% customer satisfaction guaranteed it only takes five minutes to take your passport photo for the consulate of Ethiopia come visit us
They don't answer their phone! I live far from LA I called them so many times for emergency and they don't answer! You where I called ? DC Ethiopian embassy! To be honest i don't know why they even open cause they not here to help us! DC embassy their so helpful I thank them!
This is very disappointing to have an office with no option to talk to a real person. They suspended their visa service anywhere else and end up in a place like this. Why do you need an office if there is no one to help. I am glad I don’t need their service soon
Office is closed. I called their building management, the lady confirmed, they're not leasing the suite anymore. The website is not updated unfortunately. I was just about to mail them my paperwork with sensitive information. I'm glad I called.
This Consulate is nothing but a waste of Ethiopian tax payers money -- they serve no purpose at all. I can't believe that the most poorest country in the world can afford to bring people from Ethiopia, pay their expenses and wage when
I just went today September 14th 2021. It id closed, no announcement the only Ethiopian Embsay is in Washington D.C. If it hasn't closed. My Friend in Bahrain said the Embsay their closed last month... …
I am not even sure this office knows this review board exists. But, for whatever it is worth, here is my one star simply because the system doesn't allow zero. This is a great joke in the name of a nation.
I was holding for 20 minutes and then my time was up but then it took me directly to voicemail. That was a waste of time, your agency needs to have a better system. I’m an Unhappy customers. 1*
I want to get power of Attorney documents processed. I did send every docs they needed and the $62 money order. I hadnt recived the docs back for more than 2 months. finaly the embassy sent
A consulate is NOT an "embassy," just a small office to process mainly in-person business (lucky to have one in LA). If the matter is important, drive up there like everyone else.
Today I went to consulate office to get an urgent official documents to be completed. Unbelievably no representatives to sign the documents. I was told they went to
This place is completely closed. Waste of time. The website and Google still show the address but it’s no longer there.
