I’ve had the most pleasant experience during my last visit in October 2023, I am honestly surprised with the quality of service I received. The visit I had 5 years ago, would not have led me to leave the same review. The visit I had 5 years ago was so traumatizing that it made me extremely anxious for my visit in October 2023. As I was waiting for the office to open at 10am, a gentleman who was walking towards the back door approached me at 9:58am to let me know I can ring the door bell for service. At 10am sharp a kind attendant unlocked the door for me and welcomed me into the reception. She was patient, attentive, and requested information/documents from me with so much respect and politeness. She did not exhibit any arrogance and was as friendly as a government official can be. She explained the process thoroughly and answered any questions I have regarding the passport renewal application. I missed some information on the form and she was patient enough to flag it to me and guide me through it. I wish I have gotten her name, however, if the embassy office manager would like to reach out to me for more details, I’d be open to giving her a glowing recommendation. I sincerely thanked her for her service. I’m very pleased to see the change in service within the consulate of Malaysia. Ps. The lady who helped me 5+ years ago holds no place in the embassy, I’m glad to not have crossed path with her in my recent visit as she had horrible service, was rude, condescending, and dragged the reputation of the embassy to the ground. Again, if the embassy management would like to reach out regarding the horrible service I received 5 years ago, please feel free to do so as I would not recommend reemployment of this individual. Operational hours 10am-12pm PST M-F, go early to avoid waiting. If uncertain, email the embassy for general inquiries such as required documentations for particular applications. The elevator within the building is pretty high tech, there’s an info centre desk at lobby to assist. Advisable to wear a mask and has plexi glass set up. If no one in the office, ring the bell until someone lets you in. Lock the door after you enter the office. No other visitors but the applicants within the office, visitors wait downstairs by the lobby.
Hello Encik Shaharuddin bin Aziz, the Consul, I sincerely hope you read this review and kindly please do take action. I had visit this Consulate General in Vancouver on 26-July-2018; for attestation of some legal documents. I flew from Calgary, and I did call the number provided on the website beforehand to ensure I had all the necessary documents required. I briefly met you in the morning as you walked in, and you were calm, professional and definitely pleasant. Now on the other hand, your assistant Janet Ambrose, is exactly as advertised based on the previous reviews written here on Google reviews. She is extremely rude, sarcastic, condescending and truthfully a complete embarrassment to the Malaysian consulate in Vancouver as our nation's representative / ambassador. Malaysians are know to be warm, friendly, kind, hospitable, and pleasant, even more so when outside the country. Any Malaysian living in Western Canada would have to visit the Consulate in Vancouver out of necessity, not choice. And in my humble opinion, I feel she has this sense of entitlement because we're at her mercy. Kindly please do advice her to change her attitude and be professional and be proud to be Malaysia's ambassador, as I'm quite certain there would be official complaints filed at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Putrajaya because of this individual's unprofessional demeanor. Lets be proud of our nation's culture and identity, not create the opposite. Thank you very much in advance for your kind assistance and understanding is this matter Encik Shaharuddin. Dont hesitate to get back to me for any further info / clarification. Many thanks, Josh.
Visited today, was greeted by a tuan. He explained to us what is the problem with our papers. Overall, the consultation was very pleasant (phew!). One point to make is, if the information online was sufficient, all the hassle can be avoided. To people who is planning to apply for visitor visa (single/multiple) and stay in a relative/family house in Malaysia, you must provide proof of relationship (like birth cert). If you plan to stay in your bf/gf/fiance/wife/husband family house, you must provide marriage certificate, otherwise, please get a hotel confirmation (easiest and you can cancel later!). Also, apply only a month before your flight, don't apply too early or else you will be asked to come back later. On a side note, if you are the first person waiting in the line and you don't see anyone in the office, please press the door bell (beside Msia Emblem) to alert them, the officer may not notice someone is waiting.
Consulate is 18th floor inside the Fortis BC building. Due to COVID-19, the consulate only opens 10am to 12 noon. So be totally absolutely prepared: print extra copies of your documents, make sure you have all your original documents and ID and photos, bring your own pen. Arrive early. I suggest 9:50am and wait in the lobby. The moment the elevator is activated for 18th floor, go right up and into the consulate office. If you arrive later than that, high chance you'll be stuck in a queue or worse: have to come again next day. From the visitor logbook I saw today, they serve about 3 or 4 persons only in that short 2 hour period. I did registration of birth and passport application for my baby. Including filling up two forms (which could only be obtained in the consulate itself) and reviewing the documents, it took me 45 minutes even with everything ready for submission. Good luck everyone...
I have had dealings with Pn. Janet & En. Shaharuddin via emails as well as on the phone very regularly. I am 65 years old (old school product) hence I'd ask numerous questions, clarifications, questions again, fervent requests and believe me - I was NEVER ONCE rudely told off, chided or ignored - if anyone deserved any of the above, that'd be me!! Both Janet and Shaharuddin are the epitome of true blue Malaysians - they gave me utmost respect, extreme patience AND compassion in handling my most sensitive predicament. Janet may seem brusque or abrasive in her manner of talking but we should come down our "high horse" or come down a notch or two perhaps?? In short, both Janet and Shaharuddin are Malaysians extraordinaire and I for one feel utterly safe, protected and so darn proud to be a Malaysian P/S - same compliments as well to En. Mohaimin in Ottawa, another amazing Malaysian
The most horrible consulate I have been to in the world. I wish this message could reach to Malaysian MOFA and their foreign missions in Canada. The female receptionist is extremely rude. Which I am sure you have read in others' reviews. Such a person as Malaysian diplomat is a slap on Malaysians' face. She refused to even take a look at my documents and asked me to "talk quiet, you are too loud." while I was talking. When I mentioned I have gotten the same visa from Ottawa, she said: "then why dont you go to them." She is extremely rude, unprofessional, unhelpful. Their eVisa makes lots of errors and their consulate is useless, I am not sure how Malaysia could allow such things to happen. One person like me is small, but what if there are 100, 10000 people as such? In such a friendly and welcoming country, this kind of diplomatic mission is questionable.
Landmark sighting , look for Trump Towers or Fortiss building. Approximately across The Keg. Convenient Street metered parking is suggested along West Georgia, Thurlow or Bute. I did not spot any sign post indicating the Consular General. Get inside 1111 take elevator to 18 floor, office location 05. Accompanied a Malaysian friend to renew his passport. The office is located on 18 floor & opens M-F from 9a-1 p.m. Staff's not exactly friendly to provide service but their help's needed, no choice. For payment on Malaysian ground they refuse to accept M$ or ringgit & insist on CAD. Why ??? A weak currency perhaps or is it something else behind the intention? That's the grey area here.
Hands down the worst Consulate General of Malaysia that I've been to. This lady (photo attached) is extremely rude and arrogant. The website has been inaccessible so I walked to their office to request for forms and information and the first thing she said was, "You shouldn't have to ask me if you checked the list on the website." I held it in and told her that the website was inaccessible and she rolled her eyes! Next, when I asked her to give me a list of documents to bring so I could write it down, she told me the items while shaking her head! Is this how we are representing Malaysia? Speechless! (I would give zero stars if I could!)
Attention people! For those who are interested to apply certificate of good conduct, please bring the following PRINTED documents: 1. Application Acknowledgement Slip 2. APPROVAL STATUS WHERE IS READY FOR COLLECTION (*NEW) 3. ORIGINAL PASSPORT AND A PHOTOCOPY (*NEW) 4. Letter of Authorization for collection by proxy (if applicable) 5. Cash (Mostly likely $10 CAD) Unfortunately, their website is obsolete. I can't really blame the front counter since they are new comers, only can point fingers to the top management. Seems like their inefficient practice in Malaysia spread towards Vancouver. Anyway, just be prepared! Cheers!
Yes, I do agreed with all the reviewers regarding the most recent updates on the website. We were there 4 days ago to renew my husband passport. The gentleman Mr Pedro who attended to me 8 years ago was there to assist us. He was polite, honest and sincere in handling our case. I would encourage all to go through the website and call the Consulate to check if you are not sure what to bring along. Hope this will help. All the best. Kudos to Mr Pedro.
Geez, that woman, OMG!! After enduring her extreme rudeness, sarcasm, condescending attitude, I was told that it would take 4mth to renew my passport!! “Why? You don’t know how to read or fill the form?”, “You could check it from the sample on the board!”, when asked abt lead time...“I’ll tell you aft you submit the application!”!!! Really? This kind of evil stepmother tone? Sigh...

Janet ambrose is extremely rude and not helpful at all. Why is she still even representing the consulate of Malaysia in Vancouver. Toxic behaviour, made the process even tougher than it already is, giving attitude left and right. Menopause man, PLEASE let it be MENORESUME so she can provide future people with better service.
Recently went to the Malaysian Consulate of Vancouver. Received excellent customer service. Applied for an Emergency Travel Certificate, Mrs. Ambrose helped me with all the necessary documents to be submitted. She was very polite, friendly and accomodating. I felt very comfortable with her. Thank you Ms. Ambrose!!! …
Wow, I cannot believe how rude their staff is. I called to inquire about business visa requirements (given that their website had conflicting info). Lady that answered the phone was so rude and unprofessional that it was quite shocking actually! Not sure I want to travel to MY anymore after this experience ...
This department is a joke. Only valid for 2 hours? Keep giving excuses for not doing their job. I am wonder how much they got paid. They should be replaced and fired. Specially the women from the front desk. Absolutely useless and not doing her job. Keep stalling and blaming the other department not her fault.
She is so unkind and disrespectful! I can’t even believe she is qualified as a staff at consulate! I looked for the acknowledgement slip on their website for an hour and failed so I could not pront it, and she said “maybe you did not try hard enough.” How unprofessional she is!
had some online paperwork with them. pretty straight forward. then followed up with phone. never put me on hold for too long and were very kind to make me calm that papers are gonna be ready even before the date mentioned in the website. love you MALAYSIA <3
I drove all the way from Alberta, afraid that I miss the chance to be attended without appointment however there is nothing to be worried of. Everything is taken care of quickly, Ms Janet was very helpful ans amazing. …
With the recent change of staff the environment is much friendlier. Will still need to deal with red tapes but at least the person behind the counter is very nice and friendly. The true Malaysian way. Kudos.
Be prepared with all your documents before visiting Will get asked to return home without proper documents. Looking forward to a more updated website which will be convenient for the applicants …
Things they need which for applying visa are totally different from the website. The staff even told me that I checked the wrong website. Wow, you guys should go and check your site first. So stupud.
I called to grab some information about the visa application and Kit answered all my questions respectfully and patiently. the service was more than I expectation.
The receptionist is polite, friendly and professional. Love the service that they provide. Google says close at 1pm? It is 12 noon folks. Can’t trust google 100%.
Ms Janet Ambrose assisted me with renewing my passport efficiently and was friendly, the leather seats while waiting a few minutes were comfy too!
