There are 2 Costa's within the hospital, this is a review of the one halfway along the main building. Thought, care and preparation has been put into COVID-19 preventative measures, as you would expect within a hospital, but these measures are maintained to a high standard. From clear signage, including on the floor, to protective screens, clear and ample social distanced walk ways, and plenty of hand sanitiser stations. The whole establishment is spotlessly clean, all the tables are cleared in a very timely manner and then sanitised, the outside courtyard area is kept clear of rubbish and detritus, and the baristas work area is again spotless, everything is wiped down after each use, nothing is left to pile up, and the work flow seems very well managed. Now onto the most important issue and that of the products served. I am newly diagnosed as dairy intolerant and so still awkward about asking for oat milk lattes, but it was not a problem for them to do, along with a black americano for my husband, who was the reason I was visiting the hospital. The transaction was completed with payment by contactless payment. The drinks were made quickly and I was offered a drinks holder for the 2 drinks straight away. Both the coffees were very good, nice and hot, well roasted coffee, and my latte was very tasty. I have returned to the same outlet, passing the first Costs in the hospital, on my following 2 daily visits. If I did have one very minor issue it would be that the bottle of water I purchased was not very cold, but I asked for a cup of ice and I was provided with that without hesitation or question. I'm writing this early in the morning so I will see what today's visit brings, hopefully another excellent oat latte and black americano. Thank you to the team at the Costa for making my daily visits to hospital just that little bit more pleasant.

My experiences at Costa Coffee in Southmead Hospital were consistently disappointing. During my first visit, despite placing my order quickly, I ended up waiting for 25 minutes, observing others who arrived later receiving their drinks before me. The second visit, in the early morning, was equally disheartening as I was the sole customer waiting in line and was completely ignored for a frustrating duration of 5 minutes. One staff member focused on making coffee for another customer while the other staff member glanced at me and then walked away. Overall, the service at Costa Coffee in Southmead Hospital fell short of expectations, both in terms of efficiency and customer attentiveness.

There are two Costa Coffee's shops in the hospital. This is reviewing the one furthest away from the main entrance. The café is a decent size next to the Brunel Building Garden. I didn't have a problem with making my order except the Barista asking me if I had a pen to mark the lids. There were a few customers next to me that had a problem, even with the orders Infront of the Barista they were asking the customers what milk or toppings they want which I found strange. One customer had made her order before me which was a black coffee to go and I still received my order before her. Then the Barista was saying she didn't get the order through the till, like it was the customers fault and was a little rude. When I got back to the room and tasted the coffee it was extremely bitter and burnt. Not good at all.

Very strange experience. I love Costa and it's always a good experience else where but something went wrong here. I didn't mind waiting around 5 minutes because they had ran out of a few things but when a female barista stared at me funny and held a drink at me that wasn't mine I realised the order was wrong. When I tried to explain I didn't want chocolate I wanted coffee the other barista was calm and understanding so remade my drink. However there was a mixed message and again the female barista started calling at me loudly and again shoving a drink at me (with a angry look for some reason??) which turned out to be the latte my father had already half drunk. I can understand people make mistakes and places like this are busy but I've never experienced someone get angry at me for no given reason

The manager with the dark blond hair is amazing here but the new staff need to have some more common sense. If someone orders via the app something made with oat milk and doesn’t select that they want cream, assume the person doesn’t want cream. I asked for it to be scraped off as I’m allergic, usually the manager hears this and simply remakes it (I always feel bad!) but this time they took so long that I assumed they were remaking it… nope, she came back with cream bits still everywhere on top of the coffee and it half melted. If I wasn’t so tired and already spent to long waiting I would have refused it but I’m tired and to busy to wait longer. Thankfully I’m intolerant to lactose not allergic

No Hi, no bye, no thanks, no smile, no customer service. Service was slow. In the 15mins I was waiting no skimmed milk was steamed yet I had a skinny latte so old milk was used, not to correct temperature and only half pumps of syrup used. (I work for Costa). I had 3 sips from this cup and it was burnt tasting and far from a full cup. The Maestro (supervisor) was wearing casual blue jeans (not company uniform). Disappointing visit

Being located at a major hospital, this particular branch of Costa can function as an oasis in times of illness or difficulty. The staff seem to understand that; it's friendlier than your average Costa. There are actually two outlets within 50 metres in the hospital building: one is kiosk-style and has open seating near the main entrance, the other is more of a cafe and has secluded seating in a space of its own. Large cups of tea are particularly good value as all sizes are the same price. Sandwiches, breakfast goods and cake are also on offer.

The woman with the blue hair talks to the staff in a very rude and patronising way, tries to look busy but actually does not do much of anything herself!! Just my observation I have been in there quite a few times whilst my son was in hospital and I would get rid of her if I was the boss. She is always keen to shut early urging the staff turn people away even though there is still 20 minutes of trading time left!! I’m going to use the league of friends café from now on.

  • Dave Heywood

Poor impression of a Costa. Got given an open pack of sweets, did the whole order as takeaway after us saying it was 'have in'. One coffee with no syrup and burnt coffee. Tables really need clearing down, and the area behind the counter was littered with half used milk containers etc. They really need to take a little pride in the area both sides of the counter and the service we all pay a lot of money for. Not our usual experience with Costas...

I’ve been at the small costa next to the entry at Southmead hospital today 09/02/2022. I’ve been served by blonde hair woman and dark curly hair girl. Awful and rude customer service, started arguing with me when I asked for more coffee in my “late” as the one I bought was pure milk, when I ordered a frostino it was only milk, no coffee, no cream or sprinkles. Absolutely disgusting, please improve your skills as well as customer service!!!

  • Dave

Paige - I hope you read this or one of your superiors show you this. You work in a hospital, it's a sad place at the best of times. Your demeanor and attitude makes this much much worse for people coming into Costa that have the misfortune of being served by you. I hope you were just having a bad day because quite frankly, the way you dealt with my partner and I was disgusting.

Second time visiting. I understand that it is extremely busy compared to your other Costa's. But never have I met such rude staff. Both times my order has been wrong. I worked for the company for nearly 3 years. I think I know how to make a Costa BRAND STANDARD drink - even with allergen requerments. (Costa drinks never tasted so foul). Get me behind that bar and I'll show you how it is done loves

  • Jess Sefton

3 people working, no hurry about them considering they had a queue halfway down the hospital. Need people that work faster or more proactive with the queue. Waited aslong as I could before I had to go to appointment so didn't buy anything. Several other people walked away because the queue simply wasn't moving and the ladies didn't care.

Very poor service, queue of people and both tills getting emptied by managers? One female staff member ignoring all customers walking up and down whilst the other lady with red hair is doing all the work. When I get served by a tall man he all of a sudden goes off cleaning tables half way through getting coffees and a manager takes over, not organised at all.

  • M S

Usually have no problems, but this time the staff refused to let me have a cold soya drink (mint choc chip frostino). They said they will only do soya in hot drinks, which let me down as a lot of people these days are lactose intolerant and should be treated the same as people are not intolerant! It's the same technique but pouring different milk.

  • Virginia Cath

Very, very slow service despite 4 staff being on duty. The slowest coffee service ever! I asked if it was a yraing issue, they said short staffed! But no room behind counter for anymore. Bring back the Europeans.

They are supposed to open at 9am and not still have to set up. I asked for takeaway cups to have sat down. Tills not tunes on properly and waiti ng for food took 15 minutes. Unprepared and not bothered about 10 customers waiting. 2 behind the till but only one serving and doing everything

  • Zielony Snajper

Wow thats the worst service Ive experienced in a long time. Massive queue and they chatting away and stoping to chat with eachother and some random guy who approached from the side looked like their friend. That combined with slow moves made me decide to never go to this shop again.

  • Rosy Darling

The usual drinks and fodder. Obviously far too expensive but they have a captive hospital audience and in its infinite wisdom our super hospital didn't come with a restaurant. For a much better deal walk to the other end of the concourse and give the league of friends your trade.

  • Claire Farndon

Arrived at 5:55 to find one person in the queue who had already been served. Asked if we could order a cup of tea to take up to my dad, who is currently in hospital, to be told that no, they are closed and she would like to get home this evening! Well done Costa

  • Maria Needs

Service was absolutely amazing, the chap at the till was so friendly and funny. The barista’s were so efficient. A well oiled machine springs to mind. An absolute pleasure to visit, will be back

Filthy, asked for whipped cream on my coffee and saw the blonde haired girl making my coffee wipe the tip on the I side of the bin!!!! Then put a dirty lid on the cup that was sat on a visibly dirty counter!

  • robert przemioslo

Coffee ok. Poor service. Waitress talking to someone else whilst serving me. Plastic coated cups. Rich enough to make a difference now. And no I don't want any food or water as if l did l would have asked..

They were turning customers away at 7:55 pm. Their website says they are open until 8:30 pm. Just thought they were a bit rude and unhelpful to the people who arrived at that time.

  • The Wookiee

Always a long wait but the staff try there best considering how busy it is. However, Eliza who served me today looked like she had been sucking on the lemons they use for the tea.

  • Alex Thwaite

Incredibly slow service, one person making drinks and 4 others chatting with them. Notice to please use the bins provided and clear your own tables but every bin is overflowing

  • Steve Waring

The most disengaged and disinterested group of staff I’ve ever come across. Service is appalling. It turns out that having a monopoly isn’t best for customers! Who knew.

  • James' Man Cave

Terrible service, always huge queues and then even though it's 2:55pm I queue up to be told I have to leave the queue as they close at 3pm but opening hours are till 5pm
