I love this store so much, but my biggest gripe with it is that the employees are frequently very loud in the back reptile area. I'm all for friendly banter at work, and employees feeling comfortable working, but sometimes it makes it hard to focus and think about what you might need. They are often borderline yelling at one another, which makes it feel like you can't ask questions, or that you're imposing. It feels like there isn't much control over the staff, that they're having a day at the zoo everyday and their last priority is to help the customers. They frequently will just hang out, talk, hold their animals, etc despite customers seeming like they need help. This is extremely frustrating. I also have to wonder if they need 10-15 staff on hands at all times, especially for such a small store. Aside from that, their stock is always fantastic, the employees are friendly when helping you, the variety of live animals is amazing. You can really tell these people care for and love the animals. Do note that their stock is consistently higher priced than other places in the city, but that is likely due to it being a small business. They do carry a lot of stuff you can't find elsewhere, and that's the only reason I keep returning.

Seriously THE MOST AMAZING pet store I’ve ever had the pleasure of doing business with. My husband and I have 2 dogs, a cat, 2 reptiles (leopard geko’s) and 2 love birds. We buy ALL of our pet food from here and they are seriously amazing. Super informative, always very friendly and informative. I couldn’t say enough good about this family owned Ottawa pet store GEM!! If you’re looking for quality “organic” or natural style pet food, then this is your spot! We love making our weekly trips here and love the quality, courtesy and ethics of Critter Jungle.Their product ‘Fromm’ is highly recommended for cats & dogs, fruit and vegetable based, with different proteins in all products, inter-changeable without needing to wean, free samples to try, and I could not say enough good about the also family owned brand, or the store who represents them. A family operated business. The owner jeff is just the best… as is his staff. It’s the big difference with big chains such as Pet Smart. They are ultra attentive to your needs, they dote upon my dog and they take the time to give detailed advice. For instance, Jeff helped me cut my pups nails as I am a first time dog owner. I don’t feel judged for being inexperienced in my new journey. He took 20+ minutes to help me choose the perfect harness. Another time I had to go to food basics and I didn’t want to leave the dog outside for safety reasons. Critters jungle kept him 15 minutes while I nipped into the store to grab some essentials. I feel like in tough times we assume that big chains will save us money, but at the end of the day, prices are roughly the same and I find going to Critter’s jungle is the best option in terms of advice, care and human experience.

Bad experiences every time i’ve been here I’m not sure if it’s the time of the day we usually go at but the customer service is terrible . And i’m not someone to leave reviews, but I literally get anxious coming to this location because I know the employees do nothing to make the place welcoming , they just stare at you when you ask for help , and are busy talking amongst themselves. It feels more like you’re inconveniencing them , and disturbing their conversations . Let alone no greeting when you walk into the place , they just sit there and stare at you . Wish there was a closer location to me , unfortunately will have to settle for the awful experiences every time we come.

My first time in this store was about 2 months ago. I acquired a used tank and wanted to set it up as a planted tank with a betta. An employee named Candace walked me through everything I would need to get started and even gave me some tips on extra stuff like using media from a friend's tank, filter bags to put fluval stratum in, rings for floating plants, adding beneficial bacteria to start my cycling faster, and how to care for the tank long term. She was so patient with my question and I went back a month later and she helped me pick out plants. My next trip will be for fish. I highly recommended this store as all the staff are really knowledgeable and friendly.

Critter Jungle is a really neat store, it has a wide range of all standard pet products but also a really great selection of items that cater to more unique varieties of animals and vivariums, also they have a great amount of selection right on the shelves and you can essentially get everything you need (including live animals) to create a terrarium for frogs/lizards/snakes/crabs/shrimp/isopods/ants/rodents/birds. They have many specialty food items for all creatures mentioned above. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and there is a good number of staff for the size of the store. This place is a gem! I will be back many times.

Very much a beginner and went in because I was bored of waiting for my tank to cycle and wanted something in it. I was helped by literally the best employee ever. She answered my many many questions, never made me feel like I was a bother and recommended a couple plants so I wasn’t just staring at my empty cycling tank. When my tank is ready for a fish I’ll be getting my betta there (no tiny cups for this store and the fish all looked great). I have a dog and two cats as well and I can say I’m switching over from my regular store to critter jungle.

Honestly one of the only pet stores I care about - incredible selection of products, food, and more, irregardless of if you've got a cat, a dog, or something a little more unusual! (Birds, rodents, aquatics, amphibians, reptiles, even arachnids!) Great staff too and can give you actual proper advice on care which is a bonus, since a lot of places don't have the slightest idea when it comes to care for uncommon critters. Worth a visit and then some!

This is the best pet store I’ve ever been to and I’m so glad I live so close to here. I have tarantulas and a jumping spider and every single staff member I’ve interacted with has been incredibly knowledgeable. Today I went in for fruit flies and it just so happens the person who helped me bred the fruit flies themselves and had answers to my questions. The staff seem to genuinely enjoy being there and care about the critters.

I love this place for their amazing selection for aquarists. From plants to fish amd everything in between they are just fantastic. I managed to find pom pom crabs here and so many more plant species than PetSmart. My Betta from this location has by far been my favorite fish for both his colour and his personality. They have much more than just aquarium supplies so check them out!

BEST PET STORE. No exaggeration there, they've got everything you need and more. Their animals are so well taken care of and have the most beautiful terrariums set up. Their betta fish are actually in tanks instead of cups!! I bought my tarantula here and he is lovely. The staff are certainly knowledgeable, please please come here over petsmart.

This is my all time favourite pet store to go to (I personally shop for cat and reptile products). So many quality food brands to choose from. A huge toy and treat selection as well. Their reptile section is amazing! They have a large selection of both artificial and bio-active habitat decor. The live plant selection is a bonus.

Very awesome place. The people were so knowledgeable was even able to hold some super cute hand raise white rats in my hands and girbels the first time I came. They have lots of little fish to see and have a huge selection of everything for any pet. Family owned and the workers are so nice. Other location is in Orleans.

I have visited numerous pet stores over the years looking for confident food information for my pets with limited knowledge from staff. Jeff the owner took time with me to go over different brands and cover all my questions and you could tell he knows his stuff. I will be bringing my business here moving forward.

We have a bearded dragon and a couple dart frogs. They are the only local option for bugs for my frogs/frog tank in the west end of Ottawa. The employees who are knowledgeable about the reptiles/amphibians know them well. They have food/accessories for all animals, but this is my go to store for my exotics.

Very large and well stocked Pet store for a large variety of pets. Very good supply of items (seed, toys, gravel) for different varieties of birds, which is not as common with other pet stores which tend to be smaller in size. Staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

very dirty inside, staff was gross walking around with a rat and almost dropped it on the ground. she’d get close to everyone with the rat, like you and your rat can go in the different aisle. birds were in very small cages, it was sad. overall bad visit, will not go again.

We've been coming here for years as they are the only place in Ottawa that sells the Harrison's pellets for our budgies. They are also awesome where fish are concerned. A great selection of healthy fish and a wide variety of supplies

I rarely leave reviews but when it comes to pets, fish are just as much as a pet as any other specie. You can teach tricks and can bond with your fish, aquatic snails ect.
