This was my first time experiencing Curra's for a holiday work party. I do have different dietary needs that are different from others, but I was hoping from the good reviews that Curra's would step up to par concerning making adjustments and being flexible. The service was wonderful as well the the atmospehere. The decor was beautiful, but I was left nauseous and wanting to leave this review in hopes that the food is better cooked/not come across food contamination for those that have restrictions, but want to be part of the omni food party. As for the menu I didn't see any 'V' signs which would have been super helpful whether vegetarian or vegan. I also didn't see when it came to the tacos that it would be flour. I automatically assume that it is corn given that it is a Mexican restaurant or have the server ask whether I wanted corn or flour. Those options did not exist in this occurence. I asked all my questions concerning if the vegetables are cooked in butter or if the rice has chicken stock. The server was so nice and confirmed everything would be vegan friendly. When the food came in the tacos were in flour tortilla, I kept the meal, but asked for corn. The corn tortillas were okay, but the food taste was off. The veggie chorizo was flavorless, but spicy. I ended up eating most of the nopales (nopales are always good). The veggies on the side had a hint of beef, which left me ill and nauseous. I barely touched the rice and all the other items. I didn't want to risk it. I get this is not an all vegan restaurant, but when we don't have the option to choose a place for whatever reason I would like to be accomodated or be told something that it can't be done so I make sure I tell my party that I need to eat elsewhere. Instead I am left sick with the promise that things were vegan friendly. Again, I am writing this in hopes that there is better cleanliness in the back of the kitchen and avoid cross contamination of foods that could potentially cause more harm to someone else. I would also like to comment that it would not hurt the owner or whoever is in charge to look up for a different recipe for vegeterians/vegans. Cooking veggie shouldn't be hard, there are so many Mexcian recipes that flavorful, filling, and delicious that could be a benefit to review the menu in this establishment atleast for that section.

Our kids’ wedding event dinner at Curra’s Hyde Park could not have been better, and many of us are die-hard foodies. The owners Jorge and his son Daylon did a spectacular job for us, the décor was wonderfully festive, and their staff was very friendly and attentive. Everybody loved the food and the drinks, and the champagne welcome Jorge and Daylon provided our group was a really nice surprise. Although the bar was totally open, a menu of 6 drinks was shown as suggestions – all of which were wonderful. The most popular was the Ocho Margarita, and for very good reason. It’s not on their menu but I suspect they would make it for you if requested. The avocado margarita and the Jalapeno Biznezz were the next most popular. Everybody was impressed and commented on the food flavor and quality, but the ceviche, cactus leaf salad (better than any I’ve had anywhere), shrimp dishes (especially the Camarones Margarita) and the tres leches cake received most of the raves. The mango habanero salsa they make in-house is delicious – far more tame than you might imagine, but available only on request. We would encourage everybody we know to dine here, whether on your own or for a private event. Our group was more than 120 people and all were totally impressed.

Don’t normally leave reviews of restaurants but this place was terrible. We were told it would be a 30-45 minute wait but ended up waiting an hour 20 minutes. There was no place to sit while we waited so we stood in the main entrance the whole time next to the bar and it was way too crowded. Place was super inefficient, hostess was bussing tables, waitress’ were sweeping. The whole time we were getting dripped on from the ceiling. We were hoping that it was just super crowded because the food was good but we were wrong. Waiter tried guilting us into ordering from their condensed menu cause it would back up the kitchen if we ordered anything from the normal menu. I got the chicken enchiladas, my wife got the cheese enchiladas. Both were super bland and had no flavor. Queso was ok. I tried 3 different margaritas, they were all weak, syrup-y, and had ice chunks. Best drink I had was a beer cause I wanted to leave on a high note. Go anywhere else and you’ll have a better experience. I’m literally trying to think of what was good, it didn’t smell in there? Food came out in a reasonable time. But waiter forgot our silverware so I had to get up and ask after our food came.

We stopped at Curra's Hyde Park for refreshments after an event. I haven't been to this building since it was Mother's (RIP). Curra's is the perfect restaurant to fill this space. We shared Nachos Especiales with chorizo and street tacos. The portions were large, the presentation was elevated, and the food was delicious. Their *chorizo* is exceptional - I'd love to know where they get it, or if they make it. Outside, they advertise that they're the Home of the Avocado Margarita. I was overwhelmed by the margarita menu, so I did order their *Avocado Margarita* - their house 'rita. The server told me it was a frozen bevvie, which are usually too cold, so I avoid them (brain freeze isn't fun, and I don't want to wait for them to thaw). She likened it to a smoothie. I took a chance and ordered it. Anyway, it was spectacular! Not too cold at all, super delish - I ordered another one. Do not pass up the opportunity to try one of these! The decor was modern Latino, the bathrooms weren't gendered and had menstrual supplies. The entire place had a great vibe. In short, it was a perfect Saturday afternoon, so much so that I forgot to take any photos!

I was excited to try the new location last Friday evening. I had dinner myself at the bar and 2 margaritas. I had a to go for 2 dinners with queso and 2 margaritas. There were lots of large groups waiting with no place to sit. I spoke with several people. Everyone was hovering around the bar with no masks waiting and drinking. They are short staffed and everything was taking a while. The manager finally came over to clear my plates - I thought - but his intention was to get me out. He grabbed my water and plates then grabbed my drink and took the bev naps off my glass and set it hastily back down and gave me a look. I said I'm waiting for a to go order. He said nothing. Why would you feel you can touch someone's glass during covid like that? I don't know how many single covers for $100 tab and no fuss you get but that's some horrible service from a manager! He wasn't wearing a mask and most staff and customers were not either. What a disappointment after the wait! I will definitely not be going back. The food was so so on to of it all.

We went there for dinner on a Friday night. The place had plenty of open seating and now I know why. When we got our food, (blackened fish tacos with grilled vegetables and a chipotle cream sauce) it was literally shredded fish in a bare tortilla with a pile of pasty vegetables on a plate. We asked the waitress and she went to get the manager. He came over and told us that "with everyone's dietary restrictions they serve everything on the side". I looked to our left and to our right and everyone's food looked amazingly put together. I'm not the type to complain at a restaurant, but a 4 year old could have made that dinner. The manager made excuse after excuse for not having it right rather than admitting a mistake was made. At that point we decided to pay for our drinks and leave rather than having the food remade. I wish I had a picture to share.

Hello Y'all... So I had visited the south Austin location once, not taking anything away from them but Curra's Hyde Park takes the win for sure. On this occasion I ordered the (Chorizo) Quesadillas and they were Exquisite. One detail that I really would like to mention is this, I Love Salsa, I personally love to prepare my own and that's why I can't help but wanna take my hat off to Curra's on their rendition of red Salsa, it's tasty (I Love it that it's salty) it's not too spicy but has a great taste... All in all I gladly give them 5 Stars all around... Enjoy!

I got food poisoning here on Friday 7/21. Ordered carnitas plate and the pork was dry and seemed as if it had sat out too long. Worst food borne bacterial infection I’ve ever had. Literally just recovered today, needed to go to a doctor to get an injection to stop the nausea and diarrhea. I’m going to be fair and point out that the wait staff seemed super friendly and did a good job except for the part where they poisoned me (obviously unknowingly). The ambience was quite noisy but kinda lively and fun. I would be very careful if you eat here, and send any food back that doesn’t seem hot enough or in any way suspicious. If I would have been thinking critically I would have noticed that my dish was too cold and dry to be safe.

Had a solid meal at Curra’s. Ordered the enchiladas Curra’s which is cheese enchiladas topped with carne guisada. I like that there is an option to sub grilled veggies as a side item. Great for those of us trying to cut carbs. The charro beans were just about perfect. I also tried the queso flameado which was very good. The corn tortillas had a hard time holding up to the queso, but did have a good flavor. I realized towards the middle of the meal that I was not served chips and salsa. Maybe this is not complimentary here, it I did see other tables with it. Portions were on the average side. Not a complaint, more an observation. I definitely didn’t leave feeling stuffed.

We are very likely to return! We went around 8:30-40 pm when they were closing at 9 but they handled the patrons including us well -- and we took takeout containers vs lingering or being the last customers there. Some of the margarita options looked interesting but the house one my mom got was sweet & weak for my taste and I had a beer. Was pleased with my enchiladas and want to try the mole and maybe have ceviche another time. My mom's plate (carnitas) was good too. And the salsa that came with chips nice.

We love Curras! If you've never had an Avocado Margarita, you must try one and you must try theirs. The food is always fresh and delicious and the service is impeccable. The only downside is that they totally short pour on the alcohol. All four of us noticed that after several margs, we didn't even have a buzz. We questioned whether their was alcohol in them at all, especially since we don't drink often and are usually lightweights. They were delicious either way, but I'd rather have the booze we paid for. Maybe they'll be better on a different night with a different bartender. Oh and the Key Lime Pie was great, but we'd pass on the Dulce de Leches.

  • Joe Salvato

I went to Currra's tonight with a friend and had carnitas...they were so dry I almost couldn't eat it...it was as if they were cooked yesterday and reheated in a microwave a couple of times. I took half of it home to give to my dog who wouldn't eat it. After I paid my bill, I asked the waiter if I could talk to the manager about my meal, she went to get them but they never came. I waited about 15 minutes and decided to head out. I guess they couldn't be bothered. I'll remember this the next time a friend suggests meeting for dinner at Currra's.

Came in for brunch on a weekday, ordered the huevos motuleños. The black beans were SO watered down that I wouldn’t even call it the texture of soup, because soups are thicker than that. It was basically just brown water. The plantains were overly mushy too, and since the eggs themselves are soft, the whole plate was just mush. No variance in texture between the different components of the dish. And the flour tortillas were completely raw. It was my first and last time eating here. Not worth the almost $17 I paid including tip.

What a gem. The food is great. The prices are fair. The drinks are delicious. The staff is always friendly and on point. We love this place so much we had them cater our wedding and that was one of the best decisions we made. Jorge was on point and thought of things we hadn't even considered. So glad this place is finally in the neighborhood. Try the Conchita Pibil. It's amazing Update: still great Update of update: still great

We met some people for happy hour and had the snapper ceviche, which was excellent, and the carnitas nachos, which were very good. Drinks were a Paloma (great), mezcal margarita (mezcalita?) (Really good) and a jalapeno margarita (very good but it tasted slightly more cucumberish than I expected). All except the jalapeno margarita were on the happy hour menu. Amazing service, and we will definitely be back for more ceviche and mezcalita!

Place was amazing, service was great but saw one server get humiliated by a customer. The customer in question did leave a most recent review and I just want to say them that we both had the same server and the server was not rude as claimed by the other person. I was there when the customer told him to “shut up” on multiple occasions within the 45 min I was there. Sad, servers deserve much more respect especially as a person.

First-time visitor here. Sure miss Mother's. Anyway, as a vegan, I was pleased they had something I could eat. They were out of soyrizo, so I settled for veggie tacos. They were okay. There was cheese on my beans (which I had asked for them to leave off). The acoustics in the front dining room are very loud. As a 2-top, I think we were kind of forgotten. But overall, it was pretty good.

Curra's on Oltorf is a delicious restaurant no doubt, and I love their coffee. What I don't love is them trynna move in directly across the street on the OG Mexican Cafe Julio's, which has been in that location since 1983. I hope both restaurants continue to thrive and for that reason I'll continue to support Julio's in Hyde Park and Curra's of Oltorf. Oh and if you want really tasty avocado margaritas, do yourself a favor and check out Azul Tequila.

A great local place in Hyde Park area of Austin; I visit once or twice a month. Unfortunately, they cut back their Happy Hour offerings and price specials. And always seems to be new wait staff.....high turnover for some reason. You can find various options on the menu so people can always find something to enjoy.

What a damn shame that Mother's was replaced by yet another over-priced, bougie attempt at Mexican food. The staff are all chill people just doing their jobs. But what used to be a relaxed, stop-anytime spot to get good food and coffee with your pals has been replaced by a business that charges you $15 for two tacos in a metallic taco-holder. Predictable.

Dude, when I tell you that I love Curras Hyde Park is because I mean it! I’m am extremely picky with Mexican food because it needs to be 100% authentic, and this place NAILED it! The mole enchiladas, the street tacos, the ceviche, and the margaritas are beyond amazing! I just love it. You need to try it, and I promise you’ll love it too! ❤️❤️❤️ The service is amazing too, btw.

  • C. H.

Their food is solid (if not a bit pricey unless it’s happy hour), but their service is really hit or miss. Sat at the bar for about 15 mins having made eye contact with many staff, none of whom asked if I had been helped or was ready to order, and one guy who actually started doing a crossword instead of helping customers.

Had such high hopes. Beautiful evening, great location, friendly staff, but food mediocre at best. Maybe it's unfair to compare to incredible San Antonio spots like SoLuna, but I just wish Mexican restaurants in Austin tried harder. The food is not at all deserving of the nearly 5 star average rating.

  • Michael Teach

We spent over $200 here and the manager rushed us out saying we needed to leave as soon as we had paid. I understand being busy but we paid plenty for our service that was already charging full price during happy hour. Very rude and off putting. Greedy and just trying to turn over tables for money.

  • Mike Rafferty

Flavor! The food was excellent, the service quick and friendly and the whole experience was a treat. You can find cheaper Mexican faire but for a change from "yet another taco", Cura's gets my vote. I think they're going to need to add to their bar and I'm looking forward to a breakfast menu.

Best place in Hyde park. Total gem. Food is amazing, staff is such a good vibe. Definitely recommend the mole enchiladas, sooo good!!! Can’t get food like this anywhere in Austin. Def one of my regular spots now!!!

  • Maya Pote

Food was yummy but took quite a while to come out and the chips served with guac were so greasy we couldn't eat them. Great guac though!

Just picked up a (great!) steak dinner, so couldn't stay, but the staff was great, and very accomodating. The steak was huge at $24!

So awesome to have a new location so close to the house. They have done a few things to the space to make it more open and bring in more natural light. Food is wonderful and the service is on point.

  • Luis Figueroa

Great spot for Mexican, agua frescas, and enchiladas, but what I really like is that there's hardly ever a wait or need for reservations.

Very nice Mexican style restaurant. We sat outside and it was very delightful. The food was amazing! Loved the elotes, tacos de pato, and queso flameado. Great restaurant in Austin, TX. More

  • Charlie Lerman

Food was good and the staff was excellent. The restaurant was clean. I would call this more of a Mexican restaurant rather than a Tex-Mex restaurant. They only had a few vegetarian options.

  • Angel DE LA CRUZ

Love Curra's! So nice to have the Hyde Park location for those of us in north Austin. Great food and attentive service. Excellent craft cocktail menu and, of course, AVOCADO MARGARITA!!!

  • Jeannie Cortez

Curras Hyde Park is a wonderful experience. Tasty variety of fresh cuisine. Pleasant ambiance and efficient, friendly, welcoming employees. Location should bring in lots of business.

Best Mexican restaurant in town! Everything I’ve had here has been excellent. The seafood dishes are phenomenal. The whole staff is so welcoming. Have the avocado marg!

Singature avocado margarita is worth the trip alone. All the food was good, al pastor was slightly dry but had a great crust so it was a good trade off

Good drinks, but food was targeting transplants who think Mayo is spicy.

Nothing about the new location disappoints! Food, drinks, service A+ They had some hiccups during Covid peak but seems they've got it going again.

  • Cory Kacal

Needs more workers. From when I walked in to when I got food was 2 hours of waiting. I’ll update this when staff is better. Food was p good :)

  • Nidhi Aggarwal

They were closed for a private function without any notice on their website. Called a few times and no one picked up too.

  • Digital Sancho

Worst tex mex food I’ve ever had and the service was horrible! I’ve tried it twice and both times it has been beyond bad.

  • Edward Gage

Very efficient business. Everything is prepared with attention to taste . Staff is perfect, I'm a repeat customer! More

What took me so long to check out their 2nd location. Really lovely space, incredible food, and same great service.

  • Phoebe River

The unhealthiest mexican food I've eaten in a long time. Dreadful amounts of salt and sugar. Try Julio's next door

  • Paul Olguin

The busser called me "ma'am.". I am a man. There's no reason for me to be misgendered, even if I have long hair.
