I had only ever gone to one dentist for the first 26 years of my life and due to a change in jobs resulting in a new insurance company that no longer meshed with my longtime dentist, I had to find a new one. After looking online in proximity to my home, I came across Dougherty Dental and they had great reviews on Yelp. Although, I never thought to use Yelp to read reviews on healthcare, there are people beaming about them on there, so I figured I'd see what this family practice is all about. Very friendly, thorough receptionists I've spoken with to book my appointments. Greeted every time you enter the door and don't make you wait in the waiting room long at all! They are very forward thinking in using technology to minimize pain and time spent in the chair with your mouth open. The x-ray process was so fast and really cool to see them right on the screen seconds after the beep. The teeth cleaning lady on Mondays (and Wednesdays I believe) is SO nice and efficient. She's been doing it since 1989! Dr. Laybourn did two fillings for me and was great. He was very responsive to me and triple checked I was numb before beginning. The office uses a resin composite for fillings. I highly recommend this office and am thankful for what an easy transition it has been for me finding my new dentist!

What a great group of people in a relaxed professional environment. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy going to this dental office. I have been a patient of Dougherty Laybourn Menashe Dental formally (Dougherty Dental), for over 10 years. It first started with removal and replacement of my "dental amalgam" fillings that I got during my childhood and as a young adult. Then later, to correct another problem that resulted from "teeth grinding" that led to needing veneers and a grinding guard. When I decided to get the veneers, I literally showed the dentist a photo of the teeth I wanted and that's exactly what I got. So now, every time I get my teeth cleaned here in California, the dentist/hygienist always tells me I have the best smile and that the quality of my dental work is top notch. I no longer live in Portland, but when in town, I try to get in for a check-up and to say hi to the staff. I recently returned for more than a cleaning and it all went perfect. Ten years later and now on my third grinding guard, my veneers are just as beautiful and strong as day one.

I originally came to Dr. John Dougherty for a second opinion on orthodontics, and I'm sure glad I did. It's been close to a year in braces, and I have nothing but good things to say about the crew at Dougherty Dental. First off, they are a three generation practice here in Portland. If you believe in supporting local family businesses, then look no further. I'm always pleasantly surprised by their experienced staff. They are also very forward thinking with knowledge on the newest developments in the industry. From a numbers perspective, their prices are fair and they never nickel and dime. Appointments are easy to schedule, and I've always been able to get in the same day if something's bothering me. If I were ever to have an after-hours emergency, I even have Dr. John's cell phone number. Can't ask for any better service than that. I haven't been to the dentist in many years and I found Doughert, Laybourn and Menashe online. When I scheduled my appointment the person on the phone was warm and friendly and made it easy. I was sent an email right away and was able to add my appointment on my calendar. I was nervous because I haven't been to the dentist in a long time. The staff at the counter when I walked in knew who I was and greeted me in a friendly manner. The dental hygienist was friendly and explained every process to me and made sure I knew what was going on. The hygienist was very sensitive to my needs and understanding. After my ex rays and cleaning the doctor came in to check my teeth. He was just as the rest of the staff friendly and the dentist explained everything to me. I have NEVER had such an amazing experience at the dentist...I'm actually looking forward to my next visit!

With the retirement of Dr Menashe, my longtime dentist of 27 years, I was naturally reluctant to move on to someone new. But Laurie the treatment coordinator & scheduler, Corrie the hygienist, and Dr Scott the dentist were all great and made for a pleasant experience first-time from the very start. They took the time to answer all my questions and explain my options for future care and treatment. From the paperwork I completed online ahead of time, to the impressive tiny camera used to take pictures of individual teeth, I especially appreciated their use of technology every step of the way to speed things up and enhance my understanding. My transfer from Dr Menashe to Dr Scott felt absolutely seamless. I feel 100% confident that I’m in great hands.

I have been going to Sandra Menashe for 30+ years! She was, to me, an amazing dentist! She fixed me up with crowns, implants, extractions, fillings, root canals and a four tooth bridge! I can honestly say I had never experienced any real pain. Now that she is going into retirement I went to Dougherty Laybourn Menashe Dental for my check up and teeth cleaning. Sara cleaned my teeth. She was very pleasant and we had a great conversation while she was working on my teeth. This was followed by my “new”dentist Scott Dougherty, DMD checking my teeth to see how they are doing. I’m very happy that Sandra choose this dental group to merge with - I can tell already that Dr Scott is going to be a perfect fit along with Sara to head my dental care team!

I had an appointment with Dr Andrews because I had sudden pain in one of my teeth with a crown placed years before. He was very kind, very patient, asked me a lot of questions, explained everything he was going to do in my mouth and what it meant. What a kind human being and seemingly a very competent doctor. He took x-rays and explained to me what he saw and didn't see. He made some recommendations and gave me his direct contact in case things got worse. I was so greatful for his kindness and never felt any pressure to do any unnecessary work. His office staff was kind and professional and the place was very clean and well organized. They are very affordable and have great email and phone communication. Highly recommended.

This was my first experience with Dr. Dougherty and could not be more pleased that he is now my dentist. From the minute I walked into the comfortable waiting room of the clinic, I felt welcomed and relaxed. The entrance staff and hygienist (Corey) were friendly and very personable; super qualities when you’re someone (me) who doesn’t necessarily love going to the dentist. Best of all was the time Dr. Dougherty spent chatting with me and explaining what my x-rays revealed. His manner is very calm and like his staff, warm and personable. I would highly recommend choosing Dr. Scott Dougherty. (Bonus: they have a free parking lot steps from the clinic door!)

Excellent customer service, they promptly and efficiently brought me into my appointment and overall it was a pleasant experience. I appreciate the level of care they provided not only me, but to clean the office and their Covid procedures. I felt like the office was exceptionally cleanly. All staff is friendly and willing to help in any way and they go the extra mile to be accommodating. Andrew is patient, explains everything well, asks the right questions, and gives you the opportunity to ask questions. I never felt pressured about any procedures (I had fillings done). Highly recommend.

I’ll be honest, I don’t like going to the dentist. I do, however, care about having nice looking, healthy teeth and gums. The professionals at Dougherty Dental are skilled and go above and beyond in serving their patients. Dr. Dougherty has been in touch after hours on several occasions to address urgent pediatric dental issues. When discussing treatment, he tends to present a menu of options and is cognizant of the financial considerations. Overall, a good place to get a cleaning and great professionals to be connected to if you ever need more.

Post covid review I have been to this dentist at least 30 times, for various cleanings, crowns, cavities, and other tooth issues. My prior dentist in Chicago apparently did poor work so I have been catching up. The office and staff are unfailingly polite and nice and kind and listen well. They do solid work and follow up. When I had a semi-emergency they helped me even though they were in the midst of remodeling their office. I have been very happy with their work and my wife as well likes them and I highly recommend them for new patients.

Always excellent care from all the staff, from DDSs, to dental hygienists, to all the staff. They are ALL careful to explain what they will do/are doing and very open to feedback, questions, pursuing treatments after as much consultation as needed. Clinic is immaculate, friendly and easy to get to. Three generations of DDSs! I grew up with soft water, plenty of sweets and no fluoride treatments. I have all my teeth, but there's hardly one that has not had some work done, so I know good treatment at every level, when it comes to dentistry!

I have been going to this office and seeing Dr. Andrew for around 3 years now. I have some older dental work that I’ve started to have to replace and he has done a great job; much better looking and fitting than the original work. I’ve even received a check in call from him directly after a more intrusive visit. The office staff, assistants, hygienists are always so friendly and helpful. I don’t know many people that love going to the dentist, but since we all should, having a skilled and friendly team there makes such a difference!

Before Covid I had onIy about 4 cavities and I appreciate you letting me know my jaw is good enough to at least have an implant. My recent visit to Dr. Andrew was amazing! Both he and his assistant, Taylor, were incredibly professional. They were informative about what they were doing, and how long it would take. Not only was it a comfortably executed procedure, they finished 20 minutes sooner than they said it would take! I’m not sure there is anything as aggravating as a patient, than underestimating the time of a procedure. Great job you guys! I would highly recommend your services to anyone looking for a positive dental experience!

This is the best dentist practice in the Portland Metro area. I found Dr Menashe more than 20 years ago after a terrible experience with another dentist. A coworker provide me her reference and I have never looked back. My husband starting seeing her too. We live in Vancouver and still cross the bridge. Today I had my first appointment since the pandemic began—which was also my first appointment since moving from another state—and everyone I met was thorough, efficient, friendly, and helpful. The cleaning was gentle and my comfort was prioritized. Unlike most other dentists I have seen, there is a greater sense of privacy that I also appreciated (especially as I imagine it drastically reduces potential exposure risks).
