I’m disappointed to be leaving this negative review. I’m a primarily small shop buyer and have paid for the (understandably, due to location) overpriced dog products regularly since adopting my puppy a few months ago. I treated my dog to a $140 dog bed because she seemed to like it in the store but has not once used it since I’ve brought it home. While I understand there are protocols in place to “maintain high health standards”, the no return/exchange policy was NOT disclosed at the time I made the purchase. I already reached out to Rene, the owner of the store, and she denied the request to accept an exchange. While I understand protocols are in place for a reason, the explanation that beds should be “brand new, never been used, and no trace of pet odor” doesn’t make sense because my dog (and many others) crawl around, sniff, and lick products in the store. Not to mention the cover is machine washable. What bothered me the most, was Rene’s recommendation to donate the item to The Humane Society of Tampa Bay. I’ve been volunteering there for over 3 years, and while I make monetary and product donations regularly, I am not sure who can afford to donate a $140 dog bed, because I certainly can’t. I sadly will no longer be shopping at this store. There’s no reason to support a small business if their customer service is so rigid. As a small business owner myself, Rene’s response simply showed me what NOT to do with an unhappy customer. In response to Rene’s comment below: Thank you for being kinder on Google than you were over email. Don’t want the public to see you calling me a bully and classless. You seem to really harp on the time since purchase, but you made it clear the policy was no returns or exchanges, period. I don’t really care to share the personal reasons as to why I couldn’t make it in earlier. Also, the travel bowl broke after 2 days, so it needed to be replaced.

I remember visiting this store last year after getting off a cruise ship. We stopped by on the way to the airport to fly back home to NC. This was the cutest dog store I've ever been to. They also had these amazing peace sign dog toys that I purchased to bring home. My dogs LOVED this thing and couldn't destroy it no matter how often they played with it. Unfortunately, one of the dogs had an accident that caused the toy to be ruined recently. After much research and backtracking, I finally found this store's website & contact email. Hoping beyond anything this was the right place, I emailed Rene asking if they had any more of these toys. Turns out I was right-- Rene responded literally that night saying they've been trying to get these restocked forever and would keep me informed when they get more. Well, she just emailed me today saying they would get a shipment on Saturday of these toys, asked me which colors I wanted, and told me she'd send an invoice and have them shipped. Probably the BEST customer service I've ever experienced. I don't write reviews often, but this needed to be shared. I took a shot in the dark and am thrilled to know that my dogs will get these in their stockings this year :) Go check them out & grab a peace sign!

Located inside Hyde Park Village, this pet store is a boutique shop. You will pay more that the big box pet chains but they carry a wide range of organic and grain free and luxury dog foods, lots of high quality accessories, toys, pillows, and a monster selection of healthy dog goodies. I go there primarily for the dog goodies. Costly, but my dogs are worth special treats on occasion; aren't we all? You cannot park out front or close to the entrance because they are inside the Village with no street entrance. There is a parking garage, with an elevator, so those who use wheelchairs can shop here but they have a little trek from the parking to the door. Door doesn't open automatically but it has been propped open every time i have shopped, so wheelchairs should be able to roll thru without too much effort. They accept major credit cards. Staff is friendly.

I really do enjoy frequently visits here. The staff really make it worth the visit. Myain reason for visiting is the Orijen dog food for my 11 mo Silver Dapple Mini Dachshund. The ingredients alone look better than people food and his coat and health stand out. Also the bully sticks and duck feet are very necessary. My only wish is that Orijen treats were consistently in stock. They do have many treat options in the same quality range so it is not a lack of options. Just my pooch is addicted to Orijen Free Run Duck. While a small store they do have many choices that when purchasing as a gift demonstrate a love of canines, whimsy, and luxurious fabrication. I go here like I used to go to Starbucks. One 99 cent duck foot gets me about ten minutes eat my food. They also have adoption events and actively participate in Hyde Park Village events.

We stopped in to buy a bag of Fromm's dog food one evening. We usually buy it in St. Pete but thought we would support the local business, even though their price was a bit higher. A young lady and young man were behind the counter talking to a couple with a dog. They kept giving the dog treats and ignored us standing there holding the bag of dog food. This went on for over 5 minutes. We finally put the bag of dog food bag on the rack and left--and they still did not acknowledge us or attempt to let us pay for the food. We will go back to Pet Food Warehouse in St. Pete again. They wait on your promptly, help you lift the heavy bag of dog food, they charge less and they give you a free bag when you buy 12. So much for supporting the local business!

This shop is very cute but you're really just paying for location for example they sell Doggie Design brand harnesses for $28 the same harness size and color can be purchased on amazon for $15 or chewy for $16.99. Quality items of course super cute but overpriced because they make it seem so bojuee and high class specially being located in Hyde park. Not saying a harness isn't worth the $28 but an official site such as chewy I feel like should be a base line for process even if the harness was $40 or $60 Another example is the brand Wild One for example poop bag carrier is $8 from their own website the original creator and distributor full priced not on sale this shop sells it for $12

Downtown Dogs is simply THE best shop in the Greater Tampa Bay area! René and her staff are committed to providing a friendly, welcoming environment for customers to shop... and it certainly makes it easier to shop when staff have their cute pups ready to model items and sample the treats. If you're in need of cute collars, beds, and dog bowls that aren't just the status quo--this is the place to be! Staff are extremely knowledgeable regarding a variety of food brands that are offered. And if you don't see a specific brand of food or treats, feel free to request, as René is happy to special order.

Downtown Dogs is the shop of your fur baby's wildest dreams! We are obsessed with everything about this magical place! The owner and her incredible team are so friendly, kind and helpful! And they have the CUTEST selection of the most fun and stylish pup-gear and the most delicious treats that our babies go absolutely wild for. Our weekly visits have become a special family ritual - we just can't get enough of the amazing staff, the good energy, and all the adorable pups that you get to love on while you're there! Thank you Downtown dogs for being the best neighborhood dog shop - we love ya'll!

My fiancé and I went here twice with our puppy--we were excited to check out another local pup store, but the customer service was completely non-existent. The store itself is cute, and there's a large variety of snacks, but we were completely turned off by the lack of service both times by the young woman behind the counter. She was hunched over at her laptop and never greeted us, never said goodbye or thank you, and barely brought her attention off the screen to check us out. Health Mutt is our preferred store, and we likely won't be going back to Downtown Dogs.

Love this store! We have been customers at downtown dogs for the past 5 years. They offer so many options for food, treats, and apparel for my dog! The customer service is fantastic- from the second I walk in they greet me and my dog and ask if I need any help finding anything or need recommendations. The staff is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to their products. My dog loves their homemade dog treats. I have also special ordered a few things from them and got them in a timely manner. Highly recommend if you are looking for a great dog store!

I was gifted a decorated bone shaped cookie for my dog and unfortunately, the treat did not sit well with her. Upon first giving her the treat she sniffed it and backed away which was certainly not her usual behavior towards food. I then broke the cookie up and placed it in a kong and not too long after my dog had diarrhea. I see someone else’s dog had an issue with the same bone treat so hopefully the owners look into the issue and pull those treats to avoid any other sick pups. Perhaps the cookie was expired? Frosting had unnatural ingredients?

  • Honest Tee

Very nice little dog store. Sells some dog food for locals.I was expecting it to have more stuff you cant find online easily. But they do sell Fluff and Tuff toys and Worthy Dog collars which was lovely.I wish they had some more natural dog chews. They have some but it is a small selection. They have those fun dog cookies by the register you can treat your fur baby to.The employees are nice.Just was hoping for like gator chews or pig ears or hooves.Just some animal parts to naw on would be helpful.HAHA! But overall a decent little dog store.

  • Justin Tylus

The blonde girl at the front register was extremely rude to me. I was asking about the mystery cookies for dogs and she was really rude to me and had an attitude. When I was going to pay she hit the button before I did which was unnecessary. The customer service is terrible and the owner should know how to manage their employees better. After seeing reviews about dogs getting sick from their cookies I’m not not giving my puppy them, so definitely don’t recommend. However, Sprinkles closeby does great Pupcakes!

  • Ashton Lowder

If you love your pup, come here! They have a great selection on treats and bones that are all natural and better for your dog. They also carry food, collars, leashes, apparel, cookies, and cakes. Cute place in a great village center. Will keep coming back for as long as they're around. Edit: The employees dogs are always the sweetest too! You can tell that the staff loves what they do.

  • Kristen L. Matulis

Downtown Dogs is the cutest little shop! They have a great selection of items, I used to come here relatively frequently to re-stock on Fromm grain-free food for my English Bulldog. The staff were always very helpful during my visits and the store was always very well-kept! Parking can be a little difficult during peak hours, keep this in mind before you plan to visit!

  • Cathy A.

Cute things for your better half. Lots of fresh treats to reward ur puppy for their good behavior while walking around Hyde Park. It's kinda hidden from the main drag. The entrance to the strip mall is on the strip across from the park. You got to walk down the little mall n it's one of the last stores. Prices are what you would expect for a pet boutique in Hyde Park

  • Marli Harrelson

We have the BEST service every time we visit this store. The ladies that work here have a passion for dogs and it shows! They make sure to answer every question, give the best advice and even size the bandana on our very anxious pup. We pass on the opportunity to go to other (closer and cheaper) pet stores to help support this business. We can't wait to visit again.

  • Liz

Love to shop local but went in here recently and was completely ignored by staff. One staffer even made eye contact and continued to walk around aimlessly ignoring customers. I’ve worked in customer service in the past and understand the holidays can be busy but no attempt was even made despite seeing me examining one product for several minutes.

  • HP IslandHouse

My mini dachshund and I frequent our neighborhood friends at downtown dogs to stock up On quality food, treats and toys! The lovely people who work here are super helpful with everything! They have helped me figure out what my picky girl likes to eat through trials with different foods. Thankful for have this shop in the neighborhood!

  • Steve P

Boutique experience with the friendliness you wouldn't expect from a store that is so meticulously designed for dog lovers and their furry friends. Tons of items in stock here, including clothing, accessories, bags of food, and even a snack bar. Also makes for a great photo spot for your pup. Prices were actually pretty okay as well.

  • Nina Rodriguez

Called today to ask for a small pup cake for my dogs birthday on Monday, was rudely told not enough time yet called Woof Gang in Clearwater & was told they would make it Sunday night so I could pick up on Monday. I work in Customer service & the guy who answered me was not friendly nor did he act like he wanted my business. …

  • B

Very friendly little establishment in a quaint area. Seemingly a very dog friendly area so this store perfectly fits the neighborhood. The workers have dogs in the store who are very well maintained. You can buy anything from dog beds to dog food to gormet dog cookies here. Nice little store.

  • Cassie N

Cute boutique dog store. Bring your fur babies along as they are pet friendly. Treats are kept behind the counter for well behaved dogs. They stock niche items like doggy CBD and wholistic health items. Items are on the pricier side, but Hyde Park itself is a pricy shopping center.

  • Sunni Spencer

This store is unmatched and definitely worth shopping in. It’s a well assorted pet/dog store that’s the “go to” spot in Tampa Bay. The staff is friendly and always welcoming. They even help support dog adoption and hosts periodic events. Support this local gem of a business ✨✨✨
