"Dr Garcia is the most knowledgeable , caring Doc ever met"
After doing some post-visit research, I was incredibly surprised at how "good" Dr. Garcia was rated... maybe I caught him on a bad morning, but I still feel it's important to share my experience. I had a massive heart attack while on vacation and, in lieu of a quadruple bypass, I was given six stents. Before leaving the hospital in Miami, I knew I'd have to touch base with my general practitioner when I got home to Jacksonville, but that the bulk of my care would be with a cardiologist. Upon returning home, I made an appointment with my GP, Dr. Bo Evans, with whom I'd had a long relationship with (over 7 years). Days before my appointment, however, I was told he was taking an indefinite leave of absence. So I made an appointment with Dr. Garcia, hoping he would become my new GP. First, to begin, I'd been having misgivings about the Fountain Family Medicine Center's office staff because, even though they've posted very obvious signs about PATIENTS wearing masks, their office staff fails to lead by example. That's where this terrible experience begins. Since I'd been going to this facility for seven years, I thought my records would be in place when I met with Dr. Garcia. And since this was effectively an introductory visit for both of us, I wasn't expecting an in-depth conversation... I considered it a "Get To Know You" visit. Dr. Garcia came, looking incredibly impatient and, when I brought him up-to-date on my medical condition, he acted like he wanted to be anywhere but in the room with me... no smiles, no "Wow... that's an incredible story!", no "So how are you feeling now?" His patient skills were non-existent, and he kept shaking his leg while listening to me, like he needed to use the restroom. He asked a couple of basic questions, one of which had to do with my diabetes and seeing a nephrologist. When I mentioned I was never told... in the 20 years since my diagnosis... that I should be seeing one, he scolded us and became very condescending about our lack of knowledge as to why a nephrologist would be a good idea. After 10 minutes... 10 MINUTES... he excused himself and said a nurse would be in to finish up. He then left with no goodbye, no "Nice to meet you," and no idea on what would be expected for a follow-up visit. The nurse came in (one who wasn't wearing a mask when we first came in), gives me a piece of paper and says "You're done!" My wife and I sit there a couple of more minutes with the door to the exam room open, not knowing if someone was going to walk us out, like Dr. Bo's visits had always done. Since no one returned, we walked out, totally confused as to next steps. When I asked the assistant behind the desk if there's anything they needed from me, she looked puzzled and said "Where's Dr. Garcia?" We told him what I shared above, and she says "That's unusual... he usually walks his patients out." I said, very sternly, "Apparently not today. He just left with no further instructions." So, after seven years of working with a great GP in Dr. Boyd Evans, this one INCREDIBLY unprofessional visit with Dr. Rafael Garcia made me find a new GP away from Fountain Family Medicine.
Dr Garcia is the most knowledgeable , caring Doc ever met. He took his time to talk to me about my issues and he offered a solution that included my preferences. He called me at home several times to find out how I was doing . Office was busy but well run .
