OWNERS AND EMPLOYEES ARE EXTREMELY VIOLENT. The owner of this liquor store along with its employees are extremely violent and hostile, and should not be allowed to interact with people so frequently if they cannot control themselves . Yesterday I watched the owners throw a young man down the stairs and onto his face because they were under the impression he was about to steal the beer that was in his hand (a punishment that would be inappropriate for legitimate officers, let alone the store associates). To escalate the situation further, after the man was on the floor (crying, might i add), the owner opened the doors and began to yell and antagonize him further. As the man approached the doors to engage in the argument, one of the owners (female) began shouting and putting her finger in his face, and then proceeded to put her hands on him and push him backwards. After the lady put her hands on the man who was previously assaulted, the man reached out to push her back. At this point, the male owner grabbed the man & threw him down the stairs a second time, where he grabbed him again and dragged him around on the ground. At this point I was already on the phone with the police, reporting the incident. Enraged at my mom and I doing our duties as witnesses and reporting the situation, the owners began to yell at us and threaten us, screaming "Call the police, do it", (in a threatening tone) and "you better get out of here, before you get the same thing", and calling us vulgar names. I am absolutely DISGUSTED by what I witnessed last night. Regardless of whether the young man was attempting to steal a beer or not, it is not in the power of the liquor store associates to apprehend a customer when they do not have physical evidence that they have ACTUALLY stolen something, not just a mere hunch or assumption that they have. In addition to this, violence is never an appropriate enforcement to loss prevention & can only be justified if one is defending themselves against an initial attack from the other party. Not to mention, the fact that the owners of the liquor store began to get aggressive with my mother and I in response to as seeking further assistance from the VPD, is evidence enough that these people are simply violent by nature and and are a threat to customers. Unfortunately, I don't think the VPD will be doing much, as the incident was situational and could be seen as a "threat" from the owners perspective (total bs). If anybody knows anyway to report this liquor store to a higher power, PLEASE DO SO.
If you like being harassed and treated like dog s**t, I highly recommend. However, if you are a rational human being with any sense of decency, STEER CLEAR. Here's my recent experience: I walk into the store and notice a sign that says "no bags" with a picture of a paper bag with handles (the type you receive from a retail store). I assume that this does not apply to knapsacks, so I walked in. Boy was I wrong. After 5 seconds of looking at their ridiculously high priced selection, a very obnoxious security guard/hired thug comes to me and demands that I leave my bag at the counter. He's furious because I was listening to music (ear buds) and didn't hear him call me when I entered the store (sorry, I didn't see any sign about no music being allowed). I apologise, leave my bag at the counter, and proceed I go to the cashier to purchase my order. On my way out I ask the same individual (out of curiosity) why a lady was allowed to have her purse with her. His response was, "purses aren't the same as bags"... Really? Are you f**king kidding me (obviously I was profiled for being a male in my early 20s)? He then assumes I'm giving him attitude for my comment, and tells me to not come back. I reply by saying, "I won't come back", in a neutral tone in order to reciprocate his comment. Then he grabs me very roughly by the shirt and drags me to the cashier. He then tells me to return my purchase. I tell him that I don't have the receipt, and then threatens me by telling me, "Oh, then we'll just take your purchase back without giving you a refund". I was shocked and didn't know what to say. After harassing me some more and satisfying his personal amusement, the cashier gives me my money back (I'm guessing since it would have been illegal otherwise) and I am then kicked out of the store. All this for just simply asking a naive question. I used to go to this store numerous times, not for the prices but for the convenience of its location. But now I'd rather spend 10 mins going down the street the BC liquor store, where I am treated like an actual human being. It's apparent that this store does not care one bit about their customer's experience; instead they are more invested in protecting their over priced merchandise. As a person who works in the customer service industry, this is NOT how you conduct business. You catch more bees with honey than with vinegar. TL:DR - 10/10 would recommend if you are into being pushed around/bullied and made to feel like a inferior piece of horse s**t.
I wouldn't even give it a one star if I could. Their body guard was so rude. I forgot to put my bag down at the front but I've been there a million times it seems. They didn't ask me to do this before. I put it down. Suddenly me just nodding my head yeah is attitude. He then yells at me for that & not putting my bag down. Declines my service & tells me 'I don't want to hear your mumbo jumbo.' Sorry? Anyway, it was bad service. Typical mama & papa liquor store. Crap service.
It is conveniently located as it is on my beaten path on my way Home from Work as I drive by on Nanaimo Street. Staff is friendly although they have to have a rather large Door Man that is somewhat Rude. They usually have my favorite Jaw Drop Vodka Cooler Flavor at the regular Price. Only drawback is that they do not have much Customer Parking available. They have munchies available but have some trouble keeping them in stock as they are always out much of the time.
Really rude. I walked in the door with a big smile on my face so excited to pick out a gift for a craft beer lover and someone barks at me as soon as I'm in the door to leave my bag like I'd already tried to steal something. Needless to say I wasn't having fun anymore. They make you leave your bag right by the door - anyone could run in and grab it?? Like you aren't the only one who has something of value they don't want stolen. Definitely will not go back.
Went in there bought a case of beers as a gift to my friends, go to counter and pay, girl at counter not even say hi or nothing. I'm not asking for a lots of service, I'm bought beers all over the place, this is the only one with this kind of silence service, not even a smile. Every time I go to beer and wine store I see happy people not this one. Won't be back for sure. Correct me if I'm wrong, maybe the way I dressed? Company uniforms? No idea!
The thing that this liquor store has going for it is it's location. The problem with this liquor store is the prices, the mark up is 2 to 7 dollars more on every item. It's a real shame because it is the closest liquor store to my house. I understand that is is a small franchise but the price should be a little better. It's very nice location and the staff are great but I just can't get over the prices.
I recently moved back to East Vancouver, and visit this local private beer n wine regularly. They're happy to stock my preferred products....and carry large variety of local items. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. AND they provide treats for my dog! The store's a bit cluttered, but it kind of adds character. Staff are always friendly! Thanks guys!
Don't go to this store staff is rude and treats you like your just going to steal from them like everyone this a thief. Forcing you take off backpacks to be in the store wow I'll never go back to this place. Maybe if they treated people with respect I wouldn't have to call them out on their bull through the internet brutal customer service!
This are the real heroes!!! They are open 365 days of the year. Rain, shine or covid they are open and ready. Other then that, they have good selection of everything, safe environment most of all GREAT staff. I have been going here for years, still the nicest staff! They are bringing the CBD Gin and vodka amongst other great selection.
So rude! I got there just before closing and I had my stroller...so they told me to go around the other access...once I did, they told me NOPE you can't come in we are closed!!! They weren't closed before...there was even a girl I held the door open for...it was such rude and bad service! They should have some common decency
Power tripping security and clerks DO NOT RECOMMEND SECURITY LET A FRIEND IN THE EXIT DOOR BUDGE IN FRONT OF THE LINE THEN WAS EXTREMELY RUDE TO ME AFTER I WATCHED TWO PEOPLE LEAVE I WENT TO MOVE IN AND HE POWERTRIPPED AND ARGUED THE CAPACITY AND HOW HE REGULATES IT. ZERO REASON TO BE RUDE ABOUT IT
I went in to buy a bottle of wine with my sister, she was verbally abused by someone calming to be the owner at the door. This person used some of the most profound language that I've ever heard. Boycott the place may be they will learn how to treat people . Let's all stick together and boycott.
We were tourists and asked for Canadian beer recommendations, and we got the best rec ever! The workers were extremely kind, explaining everything for us and even doing a fun team hurdle in finding the best one for us we’ll definitely visit again when we come back to Vancouver! …
This is one of the better wine and beer stores I’ve been to. Good selection, some nice wines you don’t get at BCL and the prices are reasonable. No gouging. Also very friendly staff willing to help. The outside isn’t much to look at but definitely more to it than you would think.
i buy here 2x a month, it's a bit expensive but i dont need to do the math tax and deposit included in their pricing, and the evening guy is cool he dosent smile much but he knows what the cheap product taste like. leave a bit of tip, generosity can go a long way. :)
i have never been so badly treated, the security guard tossed my bag and then yelled in my face as to how i disrespected him would not let me leave,he should get off the roids and take an anger/self control course. he made it all about him. worse service ever...
Very bad customer service, Cyndi, the cashier is very rude and the security guy has NO RESPECT at all. I will NEVER EVER go back again. The owner just lost a regulat customer due to his employees' rude and disrespectful behaviour. I recommend go elsewhere!!!
This liquor store boasts a diverse collection of wines, and their welcoming staff adds to the pleasant shopping experience. In addition, the store offers a range of spirits and other alcoholic beverages to suit different preferences and occasions.
Been going to “the Eldo” for 12 years now. Recently moved out of the area. We will truly miss them. Cool staff. Good stock. Manageable prices. I’ll patronize this store whenever possible. Prices listed are all in. Excellent. I don’t do math.
Awesome swanky liquor store that is open late in case you run out of alcohol early at your party . I'd like to request that you carry some dark rums - English Harbor, Diplomatico, Havana Club 7 year dark rum and Especial por favor …
Worst service. The door guy was super rude to me . He said I am the manager, what kind of manager you are, if u cant help the girl who is working just your next door and he knows me quite well still he did not allow me to use the washroom.
Small place, ok selection, your service matter on the staff member that helps you out but its usually a dick. Prices include the tax and return charge which is nice but sometimes thay use that to make it look cheaper. Its usually not
They're ok, it's very clean but they don't sell triple sec. Also an extremely agitated man got very angry and spent the duration of his visit yelling at the bouncers (who clearly are needed). It took away from the experience a bit.
Racist double standards as to who has to store there bag at the front of the store. Asians = money so are exempt from the rule. And WAY OVERPRICED BEER WINE AND COOLERS. shop somewhere else if you value being treated like an equal.
Open till 11pm it really helps you get that extra liquor just in case you ran out of it. If the bc liquor stores are closed and still want something for the night you can grab till 11pm on all weekdays and even weekends.
Good selection of wine. Some local some imported. Small selection of craft beer. Pricing is pretty good. One very nice feature is that they include the tax I the shelf pricing so there are no surprises at the till.
The place has gone downhill since I was here last. They don't give you a bag and you can't bring yours so you have to leave it on a small table or on the wet floor, like I did. Miss the old customer service.
Good selection of wines and spirits. I really like the lady behind the till. They also have a security person that makes me feel safe for some reason. I wish they carried more craft beer tho
as long as you don't expect to find a rare Romanée Conti vintage, or anything fancy, you should be fine with the small selection and relatively not over inflated pricing/frequent promotions
Selection has gotten progressively worse in the passed year. Staff treat you like a criminal, staff also don't know what modern masks can look like, they deny normal people from entering.
Great hours. Have all the basics. Large selection of cold products. Very pricey compared to gov’t stores and a lil more pricey than other private stores - but the only one in the area.
Great selection and amazing staff. The service here is impeccable and the prices are quite good for quality bourbon. Happiest liquor store I've ever been to and that's why I go back.
Bags not allowed in store due to management's fear of theft. Small floor space. Good selection of product despite size of establishment. Staff are dedicated to customer service.
Overpriced booze. Both the beer and the staff are ice cold. No smiles, no greetings, no warm vibes, no welcomes. Older lady at the cashier is plainly a b****. There I said it.
Number 1 place 7 days a week 9 am till 11 pm the staff are phenomenal great senses of humor the prices a some of the best in Vancouver my favorite overall place to get alcohol
This place is great, I'm so close to it and the selections are great at least for me knowing that there's a liquor store in the neighborhood that's convenient to go.
All the macro brews and a pretty decent selection of local craft brews, too. Good and varied selection of wines and spirits. Pretty reasonable for private retail.
Nice enough people, but WAY over priced. I should qualify that; what I was asked to pick up for somebody was more that they expected, my selection was not.
Terrible parking, after finding a spot then walking to this cold beer and wine store I was only further disappointed by their less than adequate selection.
Love this place because of the people ! Especially this one security guard who is always so friendly :) But the prices sometimes are just sooooooooo high!
Best prices of any private store. Great friendly staff. Selection of craft beers and ciders is quite limited. Too close to my home as I shouldn't drink!
when i went there thier wines and coolers are somewhat cheaper than most bc stores, however this is not the place if you want beer or the harder stuff
Super friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Keep in mind all their listed prices include tax and deposit. They are open till 11pm every day of the year.
Great value comparing to the government one. Large selection and friendly staff. I’ll definitely visit again if I have home party around that area.
They make you leave your bag at the front which I wouldn't mind if they didn't have ants I found some crawling in my bag when I got home not great
They had COVID-19 distancing in place. Only allowing a couple of customers in the store at a time. Good for them! The cashier was supper pleasant.
Great and friendly service. The gentleman at the counter was a fantastic service provider. Welcoming, friendly and super pleasant to deal with.
Cheapest place I bet to get your booze. They are open at wide hours. We had problem finding a liquor store on the BC day and we ended up here
the prices are fine but the real reason i come here is the feeling i get when the guy at the door tells me to have a good day. thanks i will.
This place is rude and the security are so power hungry they nearly assaulted me walking through the front door. Get a life you wannabe cop.
Nice neighborhood store with friendly staff. There's a lady who works there and she always sings along with the music, so chill and cozy!
The black guy at the entrance was rude. Ruined my experience. I used to buy here and the other guy at the entrance was friendly before.
The selection of wine is not the best, and my favorite ones always are out of stock :( ...but they have fair price and I live nearby!
A few other people have mentioned the rude doorman... It's beyond me why a liquor store the size of a living room, with no hidden
I like it when the lady behind the counter sings along loudly to the radio. Minus one star for making me take off my backpack.
The staff are very friendly, especially the security guard! Tax is included in prices and are very close to BCL prices.
Hard to find parking around this location and not a very big selection but has the basics and the service was friendly
One price- inc tax and refund. Keep it simple! Friendly staff. Variety. Sometimes a little hard to park but... Oh well
The service was great, and the selections were very good. The prices were more than I thought, but it is worth it.
Priced like a typical private liquor store with modest selection, there's not much to love other than its hours.
Place is amazing, Tracy knows her stuff and shes always trying to bring in what ppl want!! This place rocks!!
Good prices. Close to BC Liquor store prices. Some are actually cheaper. Staff is friendly. Good selection.
Bunch of friendly people work here! Their beer prices are a little high, but the place is super convenient!
Always well stocked and friendly service. Plus they ID me everytime and I'm over 30 so I love this place
I love this place, staff are very friendly and they have a good selection. Also it's dog friendly …
Cold beer and a wide selection, slightly higher prices than your average BC liquor but it's nice here.
Very nice and polite employees. They made me feel welcome everytime I went there for some goods!!!
Staff man was super cool. And the gal was too. 10/10 would buy death liquor again from you guys
Great last minute spot to grab the essentials for a fun night. Very friendly and helpful staff.
I remember when this used to be the Eldorado Hotel. The buffet wasn't that bad back in the day
Nice place, good enough selection bit excellent service. Super good neighborhood liquor store.
Very Friendly and always has a good vibe in this one I definitely make this one my favourite.
Priced twice as high as BC liquor store only because it's open 5 more hours on Sunday perhaps
Somewhat friendly staff. Decent prices for a cold beer and wine. Good craft beer selection.
Friendly, enthusiastic staff. Good selection of single cans of beer. Lots of wine as well.
One of the only places open until midnight. If you're in the Joyce area you already know.
Not s bsd liquor store. They got a oksy selection. Prices are fair. Staff are whatever.
It could be tidier and prettier inside. but, they have liquor, so goal achieved I guess
Friendly, humble, kindness staff, what else do we suppose to need more in this world?
Knowledgeable, pleasant staff Prices comparable to other similar stores. Few specials
Open every day until 11 and have a really good selection of different Spirits & wines
Best private liquor store in the area, the people are always welcoming and friendly.
Amazing staff, always helpful and friendly. Well stocked, even if its a small place
Good location but small selection and a bit pricey. People who work there are nice.
Fast to get in and out a handy location smaller selection than other private stores
Not the best selection and location but some good deals on discounted items....
Friendly and helpful staff, good selection. Beer cold room in the back as well.
Great customer service. Also I nice selection of stuff that bcl doesn’t have.
Always good prices and the random fridge on the back is good for single beer
Very welcoming and friendly service. Decent selection at reasonable prices.
I like this place. If your requirements arent too high you'll be satisfied
The staff is always the best in town. :) the security dude is awesome!
Decent selection, but quite a little mark up being. Staff is friendly!
Guy with eyebrow piecing is super rude and scares off paying customers
Security guy is a legend. Not a huge selection but prices are decent.
Very friendly service. However I'd love to see more variety in wines.
Great staff and great prices. No doing math on how much taxes will be
A decent liquor store. Fairly priced. Good selection. Friendly staff.
Wonderful staff. Reasonable prices. Only place around for the sauce
