This gym is probably the nicest gym I've visited. At the time, I had to find a place which was easily accessible from my office and open seven days a week. It's one of a nationwide network of high-end workout centers across the country. They manage to stay in larger metro areas and offer a high-priced nationwide package for the frequent business traveler. Staff members are great...always with a smile as you enter and leave the gym. Busiest times I've seen are Mondays and Wednesdays after work. I can get in, complete a work out, shower and get back to my desk in just over an hour. Not bad. I have yet to take any classes there, which is sad because there's something there for everyone. One thing to note, I lost my iPhone at this gym and was really disheartened when no one turned it in. Don't get me wrong - the staff did their best to look for it, and felt awful it happened. But I don't think that members who pay such high gym fees necessarily need to lift an iPhone. It was an expensive mistake but DON'T LEAVE YOUR ELECTRONICS lying around. Huge Pluses: -Large amount of friendly, engaged trainers (you can really tell the ones that care about their clients) - Discount coupons to store and spa after joining - You can check in, reserve a spinning bike, check class schedules and find other gym locations via an Equinox iPhone app - Extremely clean - Almost no waiting for equipment - Eye candy galore - Monthly lockers, laundry service and towel service available - Immaculate lap pool - Complimentary one hour training session and full body assessment with membership - Complimentary 30 minute message - Full line of Kiehl's products for use in the locker room and for purchase at the store - An occasional celebrity sighting - At times, awesome music Minuses: - Membership fees are much higher than other gyms in the area - The gym's underground. No windows but well lit. - Cell phone reception's not that great (see above). I guess this could be either a blessing or a curse. - Initial 12-month contracts, after it's month-to-month - Corporate discounts only happen if you get more than 15 people to join after you inquire about setting up the meetings. Doesn't seem like a lot but when you only have 75 people in your office, and the people that can join already are members, it's tough. Yes, I feel a bit of exclusivity when I go there. There are a ton of business professionals that work out during lunch and after they leave the office. Deals are discussed, people interact with each other and you may even see a celebrity or two. I love the atmosphere, the cleanliness and the fact you hardly ever have to wait for anything.
I requested to have my membership cancelled on June 8. I received an email the following day from the General Manager, Brooke Hildebrand, stating that “effective immediately”, my membership would be cancelled. It was only cancelled because I told them that I never signed the agreement, which was true. Once they looked into that, they agreed to cancel it. I verbally agreed because I was interested in rejoining the gym but shortly after, I realized that the distance from my home/work to the gym was going to be too great and it would not make sense to travel such a distance back and forth only a couple of times a week. Again, I NEVER signed the *official* agreement that is automatically generated when you rejoin and because it was NEVER signed, that’s the only way I was able to have my membership cancelled. Well, here it is, June 23rd, 2021. A full two weeks have passed since receiving the email from Brooke Hildebrand saying my membership would be cancelled. Why would I be charged for a membership that on June NINTH, two full weeks earlier, was supposed to have been cancelled “immediately”?! There is a reason why most gyms have such bad reputations and it’s exactly for reasons like the one I’m describing. I still have the proof that states when my membership would be cancelled so I am extremely shocked and displeased. How can you charge me AFTER stating the membership would be canceled? This is absolutely unbelievable and unacceptable. I will not accept this. Think twice before joining, even nicer gyms like this still have slimy ways of treating their customers, past and present just to avoid cancellations. The gym must be extremely desperate to the point where they are doing this to me. I am sure this matter will be resolved swiftly since I’m pretty sure taking legal action against such an establishment like this wouldn’t be received too well…
Wish I could give 0 stars. I’ve never experienced such tactless communication in a supposedly high standard space. This couldn’t even be called persistance. How do you convince someone you have high coveted membership when you’re almost forcing a prospective member to join your gym? I never felt such lack of kindness and consideration for my position as a potential client. Extremely uncomfortable though I did my best to gracefully decline joining right away the entire time, I was too close to saying the truth which is that I simply will never want to pay $200 per month to be in this environment on top of simply not having decided this is the gym I want to join. Cherry on top is that I received 0 apology for being made feel this way, guilt tripped for 35 minutes about my decisions. The sales/representative staff told me verbatim “this is actually not a difficult decision” multiple times which is so outrageous in my experience with high end services. Also please don’t extend outstanding occupancy expectations when your weight spaces are about as busy as everywhere else.
If you’re looking for what appears to be a overpriced “posh” gym with poor business acumen and customer service this is your spot. To start off I just called asking a question and they offered to have there salesman call me back. I advised them I would not like that and I would just stop by, well a hour later I get a polite sales call. (You know, he just wanted to make sure he’d have time for me.) When I arrived about 25 minutes later he was showing another customer around. They told me to take a seat. After 5-10 I inquired if it was going to be a while as I have other stuff to do. A minute or two later he comes up with another customer and says it will be a few minutes. I asked if I could get a workout in and check out the gym to see if I like everything and get the sales pitch after he gets done with that customer. He informs me they don’t let you try out the gym the same day. So apparently they expect people to waste two 20 minute trips to their gym. On top of all of that their monthly fee is $175 a month. For that price you should have amazing customer service!
I scheduled a tour for this place. Most gyms at least let you experience the gym before enrollment. I mention I was staying at local hotel. I thought they had a location in Georgia also. I arrived at the gym and Rikki tells me they don't have a partnership with my hotel. I was not looking for a hotel day pass. We then go over the location they have in the US. She then walked me around the gym and ask if I wanted to join. I told her I don't join a gym without using it first. She then tells me I couldn't workout at that time. She stated I would have to come back tomorrow. There were no lines out the door. I have used various gym around the world. This the first time someone told me to come back to use their gym. She then told me I had to make an immediate decision after using their gym. I am a member of Clubcorp's Commerce Club in Atlanta. I guess Rikki thinks this gym was the best in the world. It is not. Rikki, when your Atlanta, GA. property opens, please don't contact me.
Great gym, but rating is impacted by the value. Up front charges go up to $500 and the monthly rate is roughly $150. It seems like an okay price until you cost it out for a year which comes to $1,800. The place teems with private trainers, but they are great people. However, I don't care for the overall business model. They want $1,800 per year for the basis membership, but private trainers stare at a $1,100 rate for 10 sessions. On a very positive note, the front desk staff is wonderful. The guys in the locker room do a wonderful job. In summary, nice gym, but the priciest that I know of in the city. Hope this helps. As always, beware of those that gush and those that hate. There is a remarkable dance exercise class twice a week that is led by a truly gifted dancer and teacher. Equinox probably has 40 classes per week, but none have a stronger following than Karim.
I am a returning member. Came back because I liked their classes. Then I found out popular classes were difficult to get into. Members have to reserve a spot 26 hours before a class. If I was 5 minutes late, the class was full. Some body building classes are so popular, it is difficult to find space on the floor to exercise, even with a reservation. Because I work, I do not have many hours available to go to the gym and when I could go, I had difficulty getting a slot in a class. I stopped trying. Went to Equinox three days ago to cancel my membership and they are giving me a difficult time. I was told the manager was going to call me back, I am waiting.
If you are a person who normally hates the gym, this place is for you. Their class schedule is maybe the best of any gym in the area. The facilities are beautiful and someone is constantly cleaning. The Kiehl’s products smell great and I appreciate that they also supply razors, deodorant, feminine products, hair ties, and basically whatever you might forget in your gym bag. I’d like to be able to take more advantage of their private Pilates and personal training classes, but the cost is kind of steep. Their online/remote classes are super convenient for travelers. If you love yoga, go to Allison’s classes!
After a lengthy conversation with Rayme Gorniak the General Manager in regards to a double charge on my daughters gym membership with Equinox I most say I was deeply disappointed that they could not make an adjustment to refund September's payment. The double charge resulted in an attempt to put an account on hold for the month of September. The September payment was charged along with the freeze fee of $30. This saddens me because my daughter enjoyed the experience that Equinox offered but the fact that they charged me twice for one month and could not offer any credit angers me!
I was only a member at this gym for a few months but my time there was really nice. I had to leave only because of Covid and moving out of the city. Their equipment was very good quality and their pool and steam room were lovely. Alex Enos was the biggest help during and after my time there. He was understanding about why I had to cancel my membership and recently helped me get a refund after being accidentally charged on my account. Everyone is very professional and helpful at this place. Definitely recommend.
Best gym experience. My husband and I relocated to Chicago and took finding a health club very seriously. After touring 4 different options in the neighborhood, it was clear that Equinox was the best fit. The facility is beautifully designed and kept, classes/equipment are all top notch, faculty is overly accommodating—everyone is so kind, and the trainers are experts at what they do (shoutout to EJ)! I feel so much stronger and healthier than I ever have. Highly recommend elevating your day-to-day by joining.
The facilities are great and have the same expectation from other equinox locations in the Chicago area. The big downfall of this place in the gold costs is parking. The option available is terrible, and you need to plan ahead at least with 30-min prior arrival. Plus, you only get 3h when vouching your ticket at the equinox (still need to pay 3$); if by any reason you pass that time frame they will charge you around 40$.
Love this place. It’s always so clean, smells well, VERY hospitable and friendly staff. It has two levels of workout areas with many places to get away and focus on your workout. Classes are awesome and will mentally / physically challenging. Shout out to Rikki, Craig and Robin for the awesome gym. If you have any questions or interested in joining, reach out to them! Staff was super friendly and atmosphere was welcoming. I spoke with Jamie, Jair, and Jarod and they all were extremely helpful in membership questions, personal trainings, and overall feel of becoming a new member! My experience was excellent and something that stood out to me is that I did not feel self conscious in starting my gym/workout journey at this location. 20/10
We joined a month ago, and are more than satisfied. They actually provided all of what was promised when we signed up. We swim laps 4-6 days a week and go when it should be under-utilized. That works well, with only a couple waits for lanes in over two dozen visits. Staff attitude is great. Facilities are ultra clean. The thin runny soap could be better, but I'll live.
I have a national membership with Equinox, centered in NYC. This facility has what you need to get a high-end workout in. Spinning and group classes available. The locker rooms could benefit from an upgrade to spa lockers (I.e., once that have built-in locks instead of requiring a personal lock). Location is easy to get to from most of Chicago north of the river.
The club is well kept and there are many types of classes throughout every day, including yoga, Pilates on the mat, etc. My reason for 4 stars is because every time I need to deal with the membership staff, they take long to solve issues and it’s usually overcharging my credit card. I’ve learned to deal with them in writing so there are no future complications.
The classes here are unparrelled. I love the fresh eucalptys towels and the personal trainers are all so knowledgable. When you sign up, they do an "equifit" which tells you where you currently stand in your fitness and body strength. I am used to going to the doctor but noone has ever told me by BMI, etc. I am absolutely addicted to this place!
I was a member of Equinox Gold Coast for several years. However, when I cancelled my membership the assistant general manager Alex E., didn't properly process my cancellation and I was charged for additional months. Completely his fault. When I brought this to his attention several months later he only partially refunded me.
If you work on Mag Mile this is one of the best gyms in the cities with staff, equipment and group fitness classes. Equinox is known for it's high quality instruction and unique, effective classes. Try the CORE classes.. they aren't just for your waistline.. they are about helping you create lifestyle changes
If you haven't take the CORE VALUES class yet at Equinox in Chicago you're missing out. A circuit class that focuses on conscious movement - meaning you'll burn more calories by getting your mind engaged in your movements. An amazing multi-level class - check out Jen H and Tanya L instructors- They rock!
Great gym in a luxury mall. Lovely design. However, having tried them with a daily pass at 50 dollars gave me the chance to see that their layout is quite confusing in the 3 areas where the equipment is distributed. There is no sauna. And the steamroom was not working. Check ahead before going.
bad customer service. was guested into a class and they refused to let me in, and when they finally did, they did not help me set anything up so consequently wasn’t able to join class as it had already started. i would not recommend a membership here.
Equinox is an unbelievable workout experience. From start to finish, great group fitness and personal training to clean steam rooms and locker rooms stocked of quality products. Equinox makes you want to work out, and who doesn't want that?
It was my first time visiting the gym. The gentleman at the front desk was very helpful. I joined a class that I struggled to keep up with, but the instructor kept it fun and high energy! I also met Chris, who works at the spa. He was also
clean. very good classes, they have kids club for two hours limit. $2 parking for three hours. I think it is good for the price except one year commitment...only way to outs are 1. job loss, 2. relocation of 25 miles, and 3 doctor's note.
I'm visiting from New York City. One of the best clubs I've experienced in my coast-to-coast travels. No complaints. Top o' the line services. Friendly, supportive. Classes are FUN. Staff is warm and helpful. KUDOS all around, guys!
Great location on Michigan Avenue. Classes follow each other so a two to three hour workout is possible. The club is cleaned every three hours. Smells fresh and clean. Front desk is friendly. Restorative Yoga class is excellent.
Very nice premises, lots of equipment. My favorite thing- cooled wet towels with essential oil sent. Takes the exercise to the next level. The spa awesome. Very good professionals there always addressing the problems.
Best gym in the city AND if you have the all access pass ~ best traveling gym membership out there. Classes are fab, training staff (especially Victoria) are top notch, clean and friendly ~ you couldn't ask for more.
Obsessed with Equinox! Hands down best gym in Chicago! The instructors and group fitness classes cannot be beaten in addition to the cleanliness and amenities offered- free Kiehl's products on top of it!
Overall a good option if you work in the area. Well run and always clean. The front desk employees are always friendly when greeting guests and I appreciate all of the class options.
Just haven't had the greatest experience at this fitness club. I do not think it is worth the price point. I voiced my concerns with the manager. We will see if adjustments are made
The gym and locker rooms are nice and maintained but this gym is very low value for the money. Basically an LA fitness that costs $200/ month
Jeff was able to help me out the other day, extremely professional. Great facility I will definitely be back.
Great gym. Spacious always clean locker room. Coat check. Pool. Multilevel. Opens late. Spa is wonderful!
With the addition of Katie Hoff Anderson, a world-class training facility for swimmers and triathletes.
A bit small but still a very nice gym with all the bells and whistles that you expect from an Equinox!
Bad timing for gyms. Need permission to look around and see the exercise room. Inconvenient location.
Motivating environment and friendly management. Very clean. Classes will kick your ass.
Superior equipment and staff. Offers a thorough workout and respite afterwards.
Doing a great job with safety and cleaning! An excellent gym experience.
I once left. Then I came home. This is THE gym in the Gold Coast.
Jack’s class was i can’t feel my shoulders anymore …
Place needs desperate renovation. Staff is incredible.
I enjoy being a member. Great staff, clean locker room.
