I came here last week for a sunset yoga class in the courtyard in honor of Women’s Equality day. First of all, what an awesome idea! It was such a beautiful evening and it was the perfect ending to a busy Monday at work. I signed up online and when I arrived, the woman at the front desk checked me in and showed me out to the courtyard. The mats were laid out neatly and people were filing in. I took a seat towards the back and chatted it up with the people around me who told me that the instructor teaching this class was one of their favorites. Christy, the instructor, came over and introduced herself to me. I mentioned that this was my first yoga class and she hyped me up and made me feel so comfortable! She mentioned she would be giving options for each move and she said to do what I am comfortable with. The class began slow with some warm up stretching and then soon picked up. Next thing I knew I was doing some crazy fun yoga flows. Downward dog! Mountain pose! Chair pose! Christy made the class so fun and I truly learned a lot. What I liked best is that she came around and coached us to help better position ourselves. It was nice to leave feeling like I actually learned something new. The class was super relaxing but I sure felt it the next day. I left feeling so relaxed, happy, and grateful. Did I mention it was Taylor Swift themed?! I’m not a Swiftie, but now maybe I am. Thank you Equinox and Christy for hosting such a wonderful event!
When I signed up in 2020, the GM was very warm, welcoming and understanding. A friend of mine canceled her membership with that GM and she had no issues, no hassle, and didn't get charged after asking staff to cancel. Fastforward to December 2022 when I called the front desk to cancel, they notify me that the GM will get in contact with me to confirm cancellation. 1 day goes by, no call or email...2 days go by, no call or email...3 days go by, no call or email, (then comes Christmas weekend), following Monday STILL no call or email so I call back to the front desk, who assures me I will be contacted. By this point my card had gotten charged. Both calls to the front desk assured me that I should be able to receive a refund in this case. The GM finally contacts me the following day (4 full business days later, technically 5) and confirms cancellation, omits any mention of a refund. When I asked her to confirm the refund, she stated that she can't do that. Hmm seems like your staff that answers most of these questions thinks otherwise. It's also funny that you get texts from the sales team about guest passes/promotions and they'll reply to those immediately, but when you text back "who do I speak to regarding canceling my membership?" you get ghosted. *Not to mention they constantly raise prices, 3 times in two years.
I belonged to Equinox Lincoln Common right before the pandemic and for about a year after gyms were allowed to reopen in Chicago. The facility is amazing, Equipment is new(ish) and well maintained. Staff was always nice & friendly. They do a great job of keeping everything clean. Really enjoyed my time here. So why did I switch? Cost. This location is now $200+/month. Compare that to FFC Lincoln Park which is less than half that and has more room and more equipment. FFC has a large turf area for functional training. Equinox does not. FFC has over 5 platforms for deadlifts/squats. Equinox has 3. FFC allows 2 hours of free parking. Equinox only gives 1-1/2. Plus crossing the street from the garage to the gym can take some time so you get even less time to work out at Equinox. I sometimes think about rejoining Equinox because I really did enjoy my time here. The staff and other members are great. But FFC offers the same equipment (and more of it) and more areas for a wider variety of training. Sure I have to put up with the Lincoln Park "bros" but at half the price of Equinox, I can deal with it.
After 3 months of membership, I’m very pleased with this club. The equipment is state of the art, the facility’s are kept pristine, and the associates are friendly. There is one shortcoming however, which will unfortunately compel me to leave if it isn’t amended. Parking. Parking is free for 1.5 hours. After that, it’s $3.00. This doesn’t sound like much, but if you exercise 5-6 days a week, it adds up to an additional $70-$80 per month to a premium fee that I am already paying for membership. Whoever negotiated the 1.5 hour limit didn’t think it through. Parking my car in the garage across the street, riding the elevator (which smells like cannabis smoke everyday) to street level, crossing the street, checking in, changing....and then doing all of this on repeat PLUS showering take substantially longer then the half hour allocated to the 1 hour for actual exercise. Sadly, this puts me in a bad mood having to pull out my debit card every time I exit the parking garage, which is counterproductive to why I go the the gym to exercise.
Before arriving at the gym, I filled out a free pass for myself and my friend from the website. We contacted Rob and agreed on Sunday morning for 10am. While meeting with us for tour purposes, I specifically stated that I am a personal trainer, and I added that I saw eqiunox in many influencers' vlogs and wanted to explore it. I think he thought my friend was my client and informed us that we could not use the free pass because he thought I would give him a session. Unable to do anything in Chicago's snowy weather and embarrassed to my friend, I came back home. This is a very unprofessional approach. Turning away a person who is planning his day when he comes to your feet is not something that befits a well-known so-called high-quality gym like you. I have a lot of things to write here, but you've wasted enough of my time. If the reader is a professional manager, they will understand what I am trying to say!
READ YOUR CONTRACT BEFORE SIGNING. There are great instructors and amenities, but they have some bad practices when it comes to members. I signed my contract in the studio when I went for a visit and didn't have the chance to read it before signing the sales person mentioned it was a year long but I could canceled if I moved (he didn't mention the details). I moved away from this gym but not within my signed contract term of 25 miles (in the city I would have to move all the way out to Naperville). I accepted that they won't cancel and have been eating the cost for about 8 months now as it still will take me 45 minutes to get to the gym. I have reached out multiple time to end my contract on the end date and they will not do it. I have to contact the day I want to cancel and pay the remaining balance. Bad practices. Will not recommend or return to equinox and it's affiliated businesses ever again.
I’ve been Chicago Equinox member since 2018 (and other cities since 2011). It was always expensive, but it would deliver with the quality of equipment and expertise of trainers. Lincoln Common has been my go-to since it opened, and honestly, it’s been disappointing me ever since. Class trainers are still top-notch, but floor trainers consistently engage in juvenile behavior (while training a client!) and occupy already limited equipment (and space), for which they are not paying $200+ per month. Speaking of equipment, at this point my family is spending $5K plus a year for the gym that HAS NOT UPDATED any equipment, even though the price keeps rising under the pretense of "investing in new equipment". The only reason I’m still contemplating canceling my membership is that you are 5 minutes away from my home.
I have been going to this gym for 3 months, about 2-3x a week. I cannot say enough about the staff at Equinox. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and warm. Morgan and the front desk, along with many other team members, makes and effort to say my name. Shannon in the Shop, whether I'm just passing by or stopping in, greets me by my name. She is super helpful and friendly....resulting in a few transactions :) The classes are top notch as the instructors are at an amazing skill level. I use a trainer here and she is great - Bri. The gym is clean and constantly given attention to maintain cleanliness. The locker room is also very well maintained. I am so glad I joined Equinox and not some place else where I might not be looking forward to going for my workout.
Booking swimming lane! Be aware that even if you have booked a lane a week in advance you will be kicked out from the time slot by a trainer which teach to someone with which of course they make more money as you pay for the private lesson, and this trainer (PT manager so she can do what she wants) will be unfriendly and it will be blamed on a technical bug as your time slot reserved has shrunken from 1 hour and 15 mins « by miracle ». We have 2 subscriptions since 2 years … wondering if we will continue. Front desk was super nice but could not do much.
This is by far one of the best gyms in the city. I’ve had my fair of gym memberships, but this is by far my favorite. The whole experience is truly amazing. The staff are always so friendly and helpful, the facility is always super clean, there is tons of great equinox, the the classes are great! If you’ve ever thought about joining, this is definitely your sign. It’s a great experience.
I know I’m boujie af, but I love this place. It really is a state of the art gym with high quality classes, instructors, equipment, and amenities. It also has a ton of space, which matters in a city laden with gyms that are way too cramped. Yes, it’s a little expensive, but boutique fitness studios are actually more, but for less.
Love our new Gym, and it feels much more than that...I certainly recommend it hands down by far the best place in town.. From the atmosphere, the feel, the staff and all the little extras they make sure to make you feel at home so you can focus on your fitness & health.. check them out and let them know I sent you …
I love Equinox. The equipment is great, the gym is PRISTINELY clean, the staff is so friendly, and the classes are amazing. If you like fitness and working out you will love this place. It’s definitely worth the money in my opinion between the gym, classes, and other amenities
Been a member over One year , will never regret the time And money I spent on personal training sessions and investing in my own health . Big thanks to the BEST personal trainer - CONNOR YOUNGMAN for all his efforts and time spending with me . Overall great experience.
Top instructors with fun energetic and well structured classes. Friendly and service oriented staff; high cleaning standards. Best amenities including kiehls and steam room. Great environment to support and promote overall health and well-being.
Great gym and friendly staff. You're allotted 1.5 hrs free parking which is nice. However, you really have to rush your workout and shower to meet that deadline. Parking contract needs to be re-negotiated. Hoping this gets amended soon.
Gifted a membership for 6 months and now they are back-tracking their own words of saying I have to pay for 12 month after re-locating to a different city. If you are planning a short term membership, this is not the gym.
I've been going to Equinox Lincoln Common for the past year and I am delighted to go every time. The staff is profession and joyful. I have nothing to complain about. Very clean as well.
I absolutely love this place. I've been a member for almost 3 years now and it's wonderful. The amenities are always spotless and the workout classes are perfect. Zero complaints!
Worst management of any gym ever. I’ve complained about non working machines and issues have never been addressed and today they ran out of $4 water bottles… losers
My favorite gym to work out is very clean, the staff is very friendly. The equipment is great, the yoga classes are amazing …
The gym is really nice. The Kiehls shampoos they have are amazing and smell good. Would definitely recommend.
Holy mother this place is beautiful. My Barre class with Jill was awesome. Went as a guest. Join now!
Geat gym, 1.5 hour free parking is too short, other clubs offer longer parking and also free.
Too expensive. Free weights are trash. Not open enough hours in a day. Dirty sauna
Excellent staff, excellent amenities for members, and new equipment/facilities.
This club is outstanding. The newest club in Chicago. Great place!!
Good experience, heading back next workout weekend. Extremely clean
