As a summary of my experience, I would say that there are surely some good products in Evans Cycles but I feel that the staff have let the store / brand down a bit. I would say the customer service is not really meeting the standard. Personally, I feel that the customer service in Halfords is a lot better and I would really recommend going to Halfords instead. Full story of my encounter at Evans Cycles Wimbledon:- On 19-June-2020, I placed an order for a road bike online and collection of the bike in-store was scheduled to be 16-July-2020. On 27-June-2020, Evans Cycles sent me an email and informed me that there would be a delay, the revised arrival date of my bike was 22-July-2020. However, on 13-July-2020, I received an email from Evans Cycles stating that my bike was built and to be collected. I also received a text on the same day asking me to collect my bike between 5pm and 6pm. It was rather short notice, but they did not offer me the option to reschedule. When I arrived at Evans Cycles Wimbledon, they first said there was no record of my order and told me that I had made a mistake. After I insisted and showed them the proof of text and email I received from Evans Cycles, they checked at the back and found my bike. A gentleman delivered the bike to me. As this was my first bike and I was new to cycling, I told him that I was hoping to get some advice from him about this bike and also on the accessories that I should be getting, e.g. how to choose a helmet, pedal, lights, tools etc. However, the gentleman passing me the bike was not very keen in explaining to me. I told him that I was expecting a £10 voucher for a collection order above £100, as advertised on Evans Cycles website. Only then he gave the voucher to me. I quickly grabbed a £49.99 helmet before the shop closing at 6pm and paid £39.99 using my credit card and partially with the £10 voucher. After I arrived at home and read up on some guidance in choosing a helmet, and tried on the helmet I bought, I realised it was too big. About a week later, the Halfords store near where I lived reopened after the Covid19 lockdown. I went inside Halfords to get myself a suitable helmet at last. On 26-July-2020, I went back to Evans Cycles Wimbledon to return the unsuitable and unused helmet and asked for a refund. A gentleman in the shop refunded the portion (£39.99) I paid with my credit card. As for the £10 voucher, I asked if I could have that and use to purchase something else. However, he denied that there was ever a £10 voucher and I had already been refunded what I paid. He claimed that the helmet was priced £39.99 and that I had only paid £39.99, hence I should not be expecting a refund value of £49.99. I was disappointed as he raised his voice and sounded like I was lying to get a £10 voucher in front of his other colleagues and customers. I kindly asked the gentleman to look at the price tag of the helmet and scanned the barcode of the helmet to verify the price was indeed £49.99. I showed him the proof of purchase of my bike, the receipt of the helmet which stated a £10 reduction with voucher and balance payment of £39.99 with my credit card, and asked him if this was not Evans Cycles policy to reward customer a £10 voucher for in-store collection of an order above £100. He was not very happy with my question. At that point, I felt like I had already proven my point, so I told him to forget about the voucher as I was no longer interested in making a purchase in-store anymore. However, he turned away and went through some invoices, tore out a voucher and passed it to me. And said, “Forget about it, just take it. It is not worth [inaudible] talking about it.” I have purchased some accessories from Halfords instead of going back to Evans Cycles. I must say that their customer is top notch in comparison to Evans Cycles.
For your own safety I really recommend NOT using this store. I bought a bike from Evans Wimbledon and paid to have it built and delivered to store. Upon collection and my first ride I realised that the tyres were flat and my front tyre was really wobbly. I then took it back a few days later to get fixed as it was unsafe to cycle on. Then, only 11 weeks after collecting my bike, I was cycling along and my pedal came off. I then fell off my bike and cut my knee quite badly as well as sustaining bruises to my legs. When I collected my bike from Evans Wimbledon the very minimum I expected was my bike to be safe to ride. I didnt think to check over the bike before riding it because i assumed it was safe, I thought that would be a guarantee? But to have two pretty serious safety issues missed and have an accident due to the pedal not being properly attached is pretty dodgy to say the least. My accident today could have been a lot worse than bruises and a cut knee. I took my bike to the store and one member of staff said he'd look into the matter but never took my name or order number. Another member of staff then checked over my bike and when he returned it I asked if he had just completed the safety check you get 12 weeks after you bought a bike and he replied "bring it back for that whenever, I don't care." I still don't have much faith that my bike is safe and will take it to a different company for a service when I can afford to do so. I also want to add that I've also had trouble contacting the store, they don't seem to answer the phone ever. When you go to the store there is never anyone around. Finally, the first time I visited the store to collect my bike one of the staff members was cycling around on a bike in the shop, whistling and getting closer to me whilst staring at me. It made me quite uncomfortable as the only female in the store and was extremely unprofessional. I've tried to contact their head office to complain and had no response to my latest email. Please for your own safety don't buy from this shop.
Overall disappointing. Firstly, just realise that when you book a service, they won't do it, that is until they email you later telling you to buy extra parts X and Y and Z (which, if I agreed to it, would have DOUBLED my bill) oh and then pay a cleaning fee. So you have to refuse all that, then they 'service' the bike which comes back as it was before, gears not changing fluently and with a giant noise coming from somewhere out of the crank shaft (and no, this wasn't the part they 'identified' as needing replacing). The whole thing is stupid because the bike is only 9 MONTHS old! As a side note, the front-counter staff actively ignore you, even when you give them eye contact. The asian guy (sorry I don't know your name) in the service department was the only redeeming feature, he was helpful, thank you, and that's why there's two stars, but I wont be going back. UPDATE: My bike blew a puncture in the new tube and (very expensive) new tyre first week I had it back - this is most probably nothing to do with the 'service' but I will say, I followed up the online reply to my review you see here. I wrote to Evans and explained in detail why I was unhappy, they said they will pass it on to the branch manager to "make a bad experience good". However it appears it was just a PR stunt for this review because I never heard from them again, I also wrote directly to Evans again explaining this and then requesting a refund and they simply ignored me. I consequently went to Croydon Cycle Republic and they checked and fixed my wheel instantly and charged me peanuts to do it. It could be just me, and I happened to get a bad experience and it's out of the ordinary, but unfortunately I personally now don't trust EVANS and won't ever go back.
Very poor service. I left the bike on Wednesday for Silver service and cassette substitution, being very clear about lead time as I needed the bike within the weekend. They assured me so I left it there. I have been informed about 1-2 days for spares arrivals. I called back (with several problems to find someone in less than 2-3 calls) on Friday morning to have news and who answered at the phone was very elusory to give a proper info about spares arrival. He asked me to wait for an email (which never arrived) and try to call back in the afternoon. I called back around 4pm and the answer was again without proper info about cassette arrival. At the third call (6:30pm) they told me that if I wanted the bike within Saturday I HAD TO FIND A SPARE BY MYSELF ON INTERNET!! that is crazy in any case I asked cassette details, I found it, I placed the order and Ii paid the shipment cost and it arrived on Saturday morning 10:56am. Between Friday evening and Saturday morning 12:10pm I send all details about order and transit time by 2 emails asking for a feedback and nobody replied to me so I called. Only Mikah finally gave to me some proper info (included that the cassette ordered following his colleague's info was the wrong one) but in any case he finally fixed in some way the problem. At the end I also need to send back the wrong cassette and paying for the shipment and waiting for the refund. The customer care and the general service, a part Mikah's kindness and professionalism in this shop is horribly poor! And honestly the service is very expensive.
truly dismal after service with this store. in the six weeks since i bought a lithium pinnacle from them the bike has been in the store every week for the last four weeks including for a whole week while they 'addressed' a warranty issue which i eventually had to phone customer services about to get resolved. the bike itself is sound enough but in retrospect i should've seen the warning signs as the person who sold me it clearly didn't have much idea about bike fit. in the interim the front shifter has failed, the freehub has failed and there is a recurrent problem with the front mech which means it jams itself into the chain after every fifty or so miles or if i bump off a pavement. despite telling them every time i go in that this is happening they appear to do more than i've already done and realign and retighten the mech. customer services were great with the free hub issues but the best they can suggest with the mech is going back again to the wimbledon store. it would be far easier just to get a replacement mech and fit it myself but this i feel lets evans off the hook so i don't know how i'll proceed as going into this joke of a workshop isn't bringing me any joy. i've bought from evans before with none of these problems and, even at this price point, i'd expect to buy something that could actually function for more than a week. i'd avoid buying anything here in the future and i'd actively advise anyone not to go there for any work or advice on their bike
I have visited this store a few times and have even bought my bike a few years ago from them, but they have never failed to annoy me. There is a strange air of arrogance in the staff in general and in the servicing department in particular. Beware of their tendency to suggest that every part of your bike needs replacing. Each time I have visited them, they have suggested that my chain and drive-train needs replacing...each time I have ignored them. It is 3 years now and my bike is running just fine. And they suggest this purely because they are too lazy to do the service and think it is easier to replace than to clean/service it. This time I was given a quote of 150 pounds worth of replacements. I ignored them once more and requested them to carry on with the service without replacing anything. They arrogantly refused. So I asked not to do anything but just to replace the punctured tubes. When I went to collect it, he had replaced one tube but had failed to notice that the other tube was also flat. I wonder what kind of bike mechanic fails to identify a flat tube. To top it all, when I asked, what about the other wheel...He gave me a surprised look and asked - do you want THAT repaired too? I just don't know how to convince a bike mechanic why both the bike wheels need tubes in inflated condition. I just don't know what kind of mechanics they hire. Keep away from them and find a local small bike shop...This is what I am going to do.
Zero customer service, zero empathy. If you want to spend £1350 on a bike and have it break in three days, then you're better off throwing the bike in a river. They can't answer a phone because apparently wiping it down after is too much of an ask, but they can sit next to it when it rings and rings. They can't take the phone off the hook either (too much effort). You receive a message saying your bike will be ready at 5pm and the next day you collect it you're told the message was for a replacement bike they ordered for parts (which wasn't ready either). Apparently bikes come without pedals nowadays too. They offered to give me a replacement bike that had no pedals on it which was nice of them, except the bike was a different size. I took my bike in on the Saturday and I was told it will be fixed as a matter of priority so when I came in on the Thursday after no one answered the phone, the manager asked a member of staff if they could "order the parts now", which they done, so it was just sat there the whole time. I've just left the store after the mechanic started raising his voice to me like I had the cheek to be unimpressed, so when I raised my voice back I received a patronizing tone before he walked away. It's a shame because I love the bike but you're not allowed to road test an ex display for the same reason they can't answer a phone - COVID.
Terrible service....unprofessional.......do not use. I called to book my bike for a gold service and repairs and they gave me a date in 2 weeks time. I dropped my bike off. (Estimated cost for a service, new gear levels, cables and chain £196.) I agreed to the repairs straight away so they could order the parts and start the service asap. Two weeks later the work was still not completed, in fact they had not even started on the service and repairs as I was told they were short staffed. Every time I called (4 occasions) to enquire about progress I was told that someone would get back to me.....and nobody did. I ended up going there personally after the two weeks to find out nothing had been done. I cancelled the service and repairs there and then and took my bike with me. They didn't even seem surprised or concerned or asked the question why I cancelled. I took my bike to The Bicycle Service in Kingston upon Thames. They told me it didn't need a top end service and the repairs that Evans said it needed, and it ended up costing me only £69! They kept me informed during the entire process and this took them less than 24hours to complete everything. They even replaced a missing screw free of charge. My bike is now running like new.....I would highly recommend The Bicycle Service. Avoid Evans at all costs!
Really bad experience. I left a new carbon wheel for repair (replacing broken spoke) at 10am on Saturday and was told by the mechanic that it would be ready in a couple of hours. After not hearing from them, I went to the shop at 5pm and the same guy told me that he didn’t have time to do it and I’d had to wait until Monday. I then asked to get the wheel for repair by another mechanic but they had placed part of a spoke and nipple inside the wheel and the guy didn’t know how to take it out, so I left the wheel. I called on Monday at 1pm and the main mechanic hadn’t received any info from the other guy (who was not working on that shop that day) so my wheel was there waiting… the mechanic tried to get the nipple and spoke out of the wheel (it’s a deep section carbon frame) in front of me and spent 30 mins without success. He apologised and told me he would try during the week. I then decided to take the wheel home and got the piece out in just 10 minutes (photo attached). Brought it to a local mechanic and got my new spoke fixed and wheel trued in less than 30 minutes.
WOW! Once again - a WILDLY different experience. We're back to one star! Bike held for a month - with no communication or repair being undertaken. It's so simple to pick up the phone... SO SIMPLE. Just let your customers know what's happening - and don't promise "by Sunday we'll definitely... Pop in on Tuesday the repair guy...." PREVIOUS POSITIVE REVIEW - WHICH STILL STANDS ***** I have deleted my previous unsatisfactory review and replaced with this - positive one- since the exceptional rectification of the previously abysmal customer service (I clearly experienced a bad day at the office - it was quite impressive.) anyway...(!) Head office dealt with the issue i had faced in the Wimbledon store quickly and purposefully and ensured me it was resolved - therefore, for the sake of the otherwise excellent and helpful staff - I have increased to a 4 star rating from today’s experience and the empathy from Carole in customer relations. I love a happy ending.
I must update my review from 1-star to 4-star. The management got in touch with me and resolved the concern. The bike was serviced well and within the same week. The fast response from the management is highly appreciated. Original review--- Extremely poor management. Irresponsible staff. They ignored my bike service for 2 days!!! Left my bike for service on Saturday (6/5/17) morning and was promised delivery between 5:30pm and 6pm the same day. Went to collect the bike at 5:45pm and got a response: "Sorry, we forgot your bike. Please come tomorrow morning; we have lined it up first in the queue - it will be ready by 10:30am." Went on Sunday at 12:30pm after calling (that was not answered). Response: "I don't know who put this bike in my queue; please come in the evening to collect it." You do not answer the phone either. I brought my bike back unserviced. Result: I lost a full weekend of preparation for my next cycling event! Such waste of time!
Update Refused to give me a 1st service saying it has to be within the first six weeks - as if it's bone marrow transplant or something. Its been 9 weeks. So the mechanics don't give a stuff either. Will be tweeting to @Evans Cycles what experience I have had +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Spent over nearly £1600 on a bike, saddle, & peddles. These were discounted items. Asked if they could throw in a couple of bottle cages and flatly refused so I removed the order for shoes. A lot of staff and the service depends on who you get. Some are enthusiastic and knowledgeable others pushy others surly. They don't seem to take want to make time for you. Too locked behind the desk. The mechanics at the back are good. I'm looking for a bike shop that I can trust and I will put business by. Still haven't found it. For the cost of a couple of cages I will go elsewhere. This must be a London thing as Cycle Surgery Croydon were exactly the same.
Called in on multiple occasions and spoke with Alex who couldn't have been more helpful; a passionate knowledgeable guy who got just what I wanted and helped me whittle my choices down to about 3 bikes. After much deliberation and help from Alex deciding between discs or not and carbon and aluminium I finally made up my mind and went back to order the bike. Unfortunately on the day I went in he wasn't around and the three young guys manning the front counter couldn't be bothered to price up a bike and a few bits and instead suggested I have a look on the website and add up what I want then come back in. That would be easy if all the bits I wanted to order were listed online. It was like they were actively trying to get rid of me without ordering a bike. Ive never experienced anything quite like when trying to handover thousands in a shop. I may call back in an order with Alex but that experience really leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
I went in to exchange a pair of Enduro gloves which had split across the base of the thumb (there are a number of reviews about this model having this issue) I had to wait fifteen minutes before I could speak to a rather blunt female member of staff who told me she would 'honor it on this occasion' if I could find my size in the model. She then rudely added "no refund!". I chose to change the gloves for a different brand and paid the little extra. By this point, she had wondered off to speak to someone else. Leaving three people at the till. The staff appear overwhelmed and under staffed. I also have to question the mistake with consumer rights and wonder if this is a policy from their management (someone else appears to have had a similar issue here within the last month) The store has a pretty good selection of clothing, accessories and bikes but you'll have to overlook the issues outlined above!
I went to Evans Cycles in Wimbledon on 17 Aug in order to buy a first pair of cycling shoes for my road bike. I was served by Alex aka 'Beanpole' and he was absolutely fantastic - he was incredibly patient, helpful and really went the extra mile to help me. He gave me loads of really great advice and was very honest with his recommendations of which shoes to buy. He then set up the cleats on my shoes which I hugely appreciated and gave me tips on riding whilst wearing them. He's clearly very passionate about cycling and wants others to enjoy it as much as he does. And then he even gave my bike a once over to make sure everything was in working order and made a couple of quick adjustments. What incredible customer service and help - I can see why he's mentioned by name in so many of the reviews on here! Thanks very much Beanpole - I'll definitely be coming back when I next need some help.
My bike had a problem with the rear gear set so I dicided to take it to Evans in Wimbledon for a check on Saturday. The mechanic cheked the bike, identified a problem to the rear derailleur and told me to come back on Monday so they would have fix it. I went back to the shop on Monday morning. There were different people working on that day and nobody was expecting me. At that point I explained the issue to another mechanic who seemed to be annoyed and said that since I didn't buy the bike from them he wouldn't fix it. The other mechanics were listening to our conversation and were laughing. It looked like they were making fun of me. I felt really unwelcome, and found the employees very unprofessional. I walked out and brought my bike to another local shop where they fix my bike in less then 20 minutes. Avoid this shop!
I've been in on a couple of occasions to this store to inquire about purchasing my first road bike and have no complaints. (I've seen a few reviews mentioning here about nobody being able to help on the shop floor. They are there, I think it's just testament to how hard these guys are working to give the time and great service to every customer.) The staff in here are extremely knowledgeable, I was helped by a very polite and pleasant Jane who helped me to spend my cyclescheme voucher. I'd done plenty of research online but she made sure I definitely got the right size frame and even got a second opinion from the manager just to be sure. So excited to collect my new purchase. Even though it was extremely busy they were professional, prompt and made sure everyone was looked after. Great job.
I visited Evans Cycles Wimbledon on 30/03/2019. I bought a bike which was to be delivered in the next couple of working days. I have no complaint with the staff in the shop. However, a few days latter, a Parking Charge Notice arrived from Smart Parking, for £60. If this charge is not payed within 14 days it will be increased to £100. After 28 days, they will be adding £10 daily. When I called Evans Cycles customer services, they refused to offer any assistance on the matter. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this shop. Update: I made representations to the company managing the parking. I sent them an electronic copy of my receipt for the bike I bought on the day and they cancelled the parking ticket. But if I hadn't bought anything, I would had to pay the ticket for no reason!
The good points, big shop, good selection of bikes, Ben in the workshop was very nice and helpful. The bad points, the rest of the staff I dealt with were unhelpful, unprofessional and incompetent. I ordered and paid for a custom bike in Feb, after four months of contacting staff in the Wimbledon shop and the customer service team they advised they couldn’t fulfil the order and cancelled the order. Evans were kind enough to give me a £150 gift voucher for all the issues (thank you) but advised it would take up to a month to refund me the money. Evans are fine for buying anything standard, if you want anything custom a strongly recommend getting a delivery date in writing before ordering. Note: The Wimbledon manager has recently changed so there is hope he can improve the shops service.
If I ever come for cycle fix i go back to 'Evans cycles Wimbledon'and Ask for Tim.Great person. Very approachable & Super understanding, focused. I've Poped in for my bike to be fixed as a walking. Guys looked very busy.Later found out they was behind a schedule). Normal procedure is just to send client away, expecting them to come next time..but instead one of mechanic droped everything whatever he was doing at that time & started carefully listening and most importantly looked concerned - took his time to attentively & clearly with patience! I needed explaining me what has to be done on my bike. Naturally it is something they do everyday but it made feel so welcome & that he gonna look into my bike carefully withiut rush. Welldone! For fact you csn be trusted. THank You ,Tim.
Bought my first road bike down at Evans Wimbledon and the service was second to none. Despite the long que (Which is down to the current one in one out policy due to covid-19) it was well worth the wait once I got inside. I would like to thank Alex "Beanpole" his enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge really helped myself and my pal choose the best bike that met our needs. Craig helped me to set my seat, fit the lights and adjust foot set up - such a polite and helpful guy, made me feel very satisfied as a customer. The branch manager Mark & Merv were amazing also sharing thier knowledge and enthusiasm for Trek. Thank you to all the guy's for your amazing help. I will definitely be back for my next bike and highly recommend this store to anyone needing Evans Cycles services.
Sales staff - brilliant. They knew their stuff, took their time with me, wonderful. Service staff - beyond dreadful. It took them three months to fix a fairly straightforward problem which should have been covered by the warranty. What's worse, I had to chase them because they couldn't be bothered to keep me informed. It was particularly frustrating because none of the staff seemed to have either the initiative or the authority to put things right. I had to make a claim through my credit card company in the end. One of the times I was there getting no sense from the service staff, a guy came in with a puncture. They charged him twelve quid and fixed it in a jiffy - without checking the tyre itself for the cause. A ten year old wouldn't make that mistake.
Evans Wimbledon- No one answers the phone. The manager was incredibly rude, unknowledgeable and unhelpful! I arrived to collect my sons Islabike after it had been in for a week for a basic safety check/ service. The manager said they didn’t usually service Islabikes and that he didn’t know how to put on a chain guard! No work had been done to it and he asked me who had written the note taped to the bike!!?? He then swirled the wheels, pulled the breaks, said the could do with a tighten and pretty much told me in all of 3 seconds that it looked fine!!! No ways was I trusting evans with a safety check/ service with the lack of care like that! At a time when shops are crying out for paying customers, Evans couldn’t give a damn about helping anyone!
I went in with my sons brand new bike which I didn't even buy from Evans!!! The brakes had an issue that needed resolving before it could be used - I went into Evans (Wimbledon) and a wonderful gentleman called Mark came to my assistance. Not only did he rectify the issue with the brakes he even went as far as checking all the other little nuts and bolts which I thought was wonderful!! Once finished I asked his price to which he replied "nothing" - I cannot emphasise how happy I am and would certainly recommend Evans Wimbledon! Every single member of staff i spoke to was friendly, helpful and smiling :-) I walked out extremely happy and my son is over the moon. Thank you Evans Cycles & a big thank you to Mark in repairs & maintenance!!!
Three complaints: 1. Have to call to book an appointment for a service - but they won't answer their phones. Have been trying every day for more than 2 weeks now - infuriating for those who can't just 'drop in' due to work and would prefer to avoid unnecessary trips due to (a) covid-19 (b) being told to come back when they have an appointment for you. 2. They have stopped their free bike MOTs for newly purchased bikes, part of the deal when you originally bought the bike! 3. You cannot cancel an order once you have placed it, even if it hasn't been processed yet. So you have to wait for the order to be processed and delivered, then request a return and refund. Still waiting for a refund 16 days later.
Excellent customer service. Big shout out to Alex (Beanpole) who fixed today my Shimano pedal cleats which were poorly installed by SIGMA Sports 2 weeks ago. The cleats were lose and I lost 2 bolts cycling yesterday which almost cause me an accident. Alex (Beanpole) fixed it for me today and also pointed that the position of the cleats could be improved just by observing how I stand (at Sigma they just installed the cleats without any personalized attention). At Evans Wimbledon I had also the opportunity to be well served by Alfie and his Manager too in other occasions since I bought my bike (elsewhere). I will always comeback to this store because the attention you get from their staff is superb.
Went to the workshop to have mudguards fitted and my brakes checked as the rear brake (disc brake) doesn't grip anymore to slow down my bike. They said it should take a couple of hours to get the work done. Not only took it more than a day to be completed but was also done poorly. the mudguards were fitted okish (had to tighten screws myself at home) but the brakes were not repaired. Apparently, they were cleaned as part of the service but the fact that the rear brake was not working was ignored. I even went back to explain that it's still not safe to ride my bike with the faulty brake but I was told this is how they work. So I paid £80 for two jobs where one of them was completed more or less.
Great experience buying at the Wimbledon branch through a Cycle Scheme. Spoke with the assistant manager (Jeremy I believe) and a new colleague. Both clear and supportive and able to make quick recommendations on a range of accessories with all recs perfect for what I needed and could pay. Knew off the top of their head what was in stock and what wasn’t. In the past have found cycle shops a little intimidating but they were able to give good advice on what to get to someone who doesn’t know loads about cycling without being patronising and I felt able to ask basic questions easily which was refreshing. Left with exactly what I needed and looking forward to getting out on the bike. Thanks both!
A tale of mixed stories.... I took my old commuter bike to be repaired by Evans Cycles six month's ago and i needed a new chain + break cables and was quoted £150 for the work. The bike is not even worth that much so i fixed it myself and saved over £50. So servicing and repairs at Evans is expensive and the staff in the servicing area were not helpful and were happy for me to wait without engaging in conversation (even though Evans rang me to say the bike was ready to pick up). But two days ago i purchased a new Specialized Allez Elite road bike and was greeted by a very helpful person called Alfie who gave me some useful advice and helped with fitting the new pedals that i bought separately.
Shockingly bad experience. - Booked in a bike service for 9am Wednesday, only to be told the mechanic/engineer only comes in on Saturday. - Asked if I could bring it in Monday as I'm working over the weekend and need my bike to commute. The member of staff said I would have to rebook and that the booking system doesn't work even though head office have been told. - He also opened the shop 5 minutes late, didn't apologise, and was generally pretty rude (young guy with curtains, tatoos, and goatee). - Additionally Evans cycle Wimbledon don't ever seen to answer the phone. Just a really grating, poor experience and wasted journey. The last thing I needed after a hectic night shift.
I arrived today, after much research online, excited to get some advice, guidance and to try a few bikes out. None of the staff seemed interested in offering their support, only saw 3 staff members and they were all occupied with eachother or other tasks. Another customer approached them, recieved a curt response and left looking displeased - how intimidating! I was browsing for ages and once I decided to just ask for help, they'd all disappeared! Felt bizarre to be in such a large shop alone... waited another 5-10 mins and just walked out... shame as they are the closest cycle shop and have now lost my business. Isn't the same Evan's I remember from my childhood.
I am 40 years old and have rarely experienced such poor customer service in my life. I went to the Wimbledon store at around 1:30pm on (26/04/22). There were two staff members fixing and talking to the owner of the bike. I must have been wondering around 20 minutes waiting to be acknowledged and even walked past them twice in hope they would at least notice I was there. Obviously their snobby conversation about group rides and crank sets was way more important than anything I could offer. I really do not see much future in this store when the management and staff lack basic human empathy. Needles to say, I walked out and ordered what I needed online.
My wheels were stolen while the bike was locked up last night. Pretty gutting, but I popped into Evans to get it sorted as quickly as possible. Service was pretty amazing. Alex (aka Beanpole?!) helped me out. He had set aside some wheels for me when I called in the morning. When I got in with my sad-looking frame, he seemed determined to get me back on the road asap. He put on the wheels and tuned my gears and brakes, teaching me what he was doing the whole way. I've gone from a horrible situation to just being excited to get out on my fancy new wheels! This is why you should go into a shop instead of buying online. Very happy customer.
All the staff at Evans Wimbledon were incredibly helpful through the process of me trying out and buying my first road bike. Friendly, knowledgeable and couldn’t do more to help. A particular shout out to Sam, who was invaluable in his support and advice throughout - from my initial research, trying a number of bikes and then kitting out my final choice (Trek) - which I love! He was dedicated and efficient, with a friendly and credible approach. I would not hesitate to recommend Evans’ wimbledon store to anyone for their cycling needs. Without question, an incredibly customer-focused, committed and knowledgeable team :)
The store fitted a child seat I purchased from them when I bought my bike. It came off whilst my son was in it as the seat had not been fitted correctly. The customer service in the store tells the story of a similar lack of care for the customer - when I took the bike back in and explained the problem I was assured it would be looked at. Four days later I'd heard nothing from the store and when I called in, having phoned and been told it was ready, nothing had been checked on the seat but a safety test had been done on the brakes. There are other bike shops in Wimbledon and I would advise using another before this one.
Great in store service. Really excellent but what lets them down is the follow up. My bike was supposed to be ready for collection on Friday (13 days ago) and I have had zero communication regarding it's whereabouts. I have called the store several times and no one answers. Even Evans head office can't get hold of them. Money has been taken but I have nothing to show for it. Disappointed after such excellent in-store service. Downgraded from an original 3 to a 1 after wasting 2 weeks calling Evans, using their webchat only to be told to be patient. Spend your money elsewhere as Evans clearly don't value your custom.
Good service on bike, but so much delays. The 2-3 days service turned 2 weeks. I do believe the staff can benefit in a better system of handing over of message to each other. For example, I spoke to one of the mechanics on the phone confirming acceptance of repair costs and to proceed. 2 days later I received an email stating that I have not yet confirmed cost. In addition, they also misplaced the pitlock of my wheel, and then realised it was tied on the bike all along. This is not an isolated incident. It happened several times. My year silver plan bike service is coming to an end in 2 months. I will not renew it.
Spectacularly unfriendly when click and collecting. I've not been before but initial impressions were good, decent location, a car park if you need it. A big space, plenty of stock and staff. And then I asked to collect my item....wow, maybe a bad day but surly, begrudging, dismissive are all applicable here. Finally the item was tracked down after nearly 30 minutes. No apology, no thank you, just handed me the item (which I had found on display) with no eye contact. Checked my t-shirt definitely didn't say anything offensive or 'screw you Evans!' Cycle retailing is a tough tough game, this isn't how you win it.
Went to the store and put an order for a bike and was told only would take few days, a week later got a email saying it should take 48hrs to build the bike, went to the store to be told bike was not build yet but would be by the end of the day, at the end of same day have a call to the store to find out bike have not been build yet and might be on Sunday. Very disappointed. Every time I walked in the store staff are chatting, so not sure about the delays. Might change review once got the bicycle but for now only one star. After all made me consider get a refund and go somewhere else.
Went in with my children to get them their first bikes. 2 guys were working bikes at the back and 1 person was at the front, handling customer services.. I think. We walked in and waited for 5 mins, waiting for someone to help. The guy walks by, gives us a very rude - like why are you here - look and says, while walking past, “yea, I’m too busy… can’t help you…. There’s all the kids bikes… figure it out” So we did. Ordered both bikes from Amazon. I’m sure this is a good shop and not generally like this and hopefully some of the staff can get a crash course on general politeness.
This is the second time of going there and on both occasions I have found the manager (grey haired gentleman) brash, arrogant and almost rude. Seems like he doesn't want to help. I asked him if a cycle shoes comes in half sizes, to which he said no. I then asked a young man, who apparently does off road bike racing, who was very very helpful, keen and chatty who brought me out a large number of these including the ones I liked in half sizes. Just glad the young boy was there as I would have walked out not to return, especially as the manager was the same on a previous visit.
I've visited this store a handful of times in the last week and have been really happy with the service. Micah adjusted my daughters breaks brilliantly, she was instantly more confident on her bike the moment we left. When we returned a few days later so that I could choose a bike for myself, Ian was extremely helpful in helping select the right model and accessories. The next day we went back to collect the bike which had been built with all of the accessories installed and were assisted by Alfie who was equally as helpful. Very happy with the service we've received.
The staff at the Wimbledon store were OK, I wanted help with an e bike the young gent knew nothing about them and I mean nadaaa! Lol I bought one in the end afyer I had done my own research and having a bad ex in King's x store, I love my bike although I wasn't given a key for the battery, a manual of any sort and the plug was European which is illegal as all electrical items sold UK are to be sold with a proper plug. I was pretty shocked after spending over 2k.! Also no way of contacting them, no phone, they won't reply to emails, great service guys! NOT
My son’s bicycle brakes, and mine, were completely worn out - and Evans employee Mikah provided excellent service during our four visits to the shop. He helped us choose new brake pads online, as there were none left in the store. He replaced my son’s brake pads, and then mine. Even though my bike is old and a bit temperamental, Mikah remained positive and encouraging throughout. We now have safe brakes and cycle more confidently - and without my bike screeching down hill! Very professional service. Thank you!
Had an excellent experience buying a new bike from Evans. Sam was super helpful over the phone and then Alex was great in-store, explaining me everything I needed to know about the new bike and more. He followed up by email about something afterwards, as promised, which was great after a not so smooth interaction with Evan's central customer support team. Trust restored! The in-store team really turned my experience around completely and I'm happy that I can stay a Evans fan! Thanks a lot Wimbledon team!
I needed assistance yesterday to fix a punchure on my Brompton EB - not the easiest to do at home. I was assisted by Daniel at Evans Wimbledon and I just wanted to say a huge thank you. Very knowledgeable mechanic and a delight to deal with. Not only did Daniel fix the puncture super quickly but he also helped me reset my brakes and my saddle alignment. If only all service could be this good it would make a visit to any bike store an absolute pleasure. Thanks again Daniel for you excellent assistance.
Visited 21/5/19, was looking to buy new pedals for my bike and shoes to go with them. Spoke to a young guy at the back desk who was helpful and able to give me a better idea of what the difference between two types of pedals were. I then had a nice chat with Paul who was very helpful, gave me good advice, fitted the new pedals for me, showed me how to clip in and out, and even noticed that my seat wasn't level and adjusted it for me. He also price matched the pedals I purchased, saving me some money.
Absolutely brilliant service. I recently purchased a bike - although a keen cyclist I hadn't bought a bike in over 30 years. I was lucky enough to be helped by Taylor; who is an asset to this store. He listened carefully and gave good advice and I have come away with a bike that I am really happy with. He also happens to be extremely personable and funny. I also dealt with Jamie and Jeremy who were also lovely. All in all my bike purchase from Evans Wimbledon was great and I will be returning.
Bought a lock that unfortunately didn't fit and was told I could return it. When I tried to return it the clerk told me they now only provide credit or swaps but not refunds and the system won't even allow it. He said this is Sports Direct's policy. Everything the salesman said was a total lie. He was able to easily refund my card and Sports Direct do provide refunds. I officially have no reason to ever go here again and will only shop at Amazon or other bike credible shops from now on.
I bought an new Trek e-bike costing over £2,000 from them a month ago which has had a charging issue from day one. Now over a month later, Because of the lack of support from Evans Wimbledon I have had to contact Trek directly to resolve the issue. The manager at this store is terrible at communicating. I have asked a few simple questions and weeks pass without any answers. Extremely unprofessional. I don't think this guy should be in charge of a lemonade stand, let alone a bike store.
Had quite a few very good experiences: - They ordered 2 pair of shoes for me. Different sizes, because I couldn't decide. And then after trying them, I kept only the pair that fitted me best. That's a very nice service. - A few times I came to request a little help with my bike. To change a pedal that was stuck, or a small gear setup. They helped nicely, gave some tips, and didn't even request for any payment. It wasn't big things for them, but still, it was very nice. Thanks to them
Not a very nice experience. We have bought 3 bikes from this branch but we wont be going there anymore! After calling unsuccessfully to enquire about servicing my children's bike (which we bought from them), I had no option but to turn up. When I got there with my two children, the first thing they said to me was what are you doing here? we are very busy... I know staff are under a lot of pressure, but at least be polite and have manners, specially in front of children.
I attended Evans branch in Wimbledon, as I had previously visited the store to purchase bike lights, which when I got home, I could not attach to my bike. I returned the next day and was met by Sam, he was cheerful and he obviously had a passion for bikes. He managed to put my front light in position. He was chatty , he explained the procedure. I wanted to say a big 'Thank you ' to him , he is an asset to your store. ( I visited the store a few Saturdays ago)
Consistently disappointed by the service at the store. Too few staff, and most incredibly rude and abrupt. If I am going to spend thousands of Pounds I expect some kind of engagement. Wanted to book my road bike in for a service: digital booking down, phone line ignored, ignored in person, and eventually got told by a mechanic - who didn't even say hello - that "we're not booking bikes in". Honestly, can order everything online anyway - DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
Went in after buying a bike to get it professionally put together. We were served by Craig, he was a total legend. Did the whole thing for a tenner, was cheerful and had a great chat in the height of a Pandemic. Even when the line was super long, he was calm, collected and kept every reassured they were moving as quick as possible. Young guy who has made one of our first shopping experiences since lockdown seem stress free and most importantly easy.
'Beanpole' was extremely knowledgeable, easy to speak with, and clearly passionate about bikes. He patiently listened to all my questions as an adult returning to cycling and gave a lot of advice and support. Super helpful!! Due to covid supply delays I unfortunately won't end up getting my bike from here, but I won't hesitate to visit for service and accessories because they clearly know what they're taking about here. Thanks again 'Beanpole'!
I'm rarely impressed, but these guys were seriously impressive. Attitude and service was excellent. I've got an 80s vintage road bike which meant one problem led to another, and one really big problem. But together as team they worked on it, never gave up, and came up with solutions. It now rides beautifully. All were great but especially Peta and Davide (sorry if I've misspelt your names) who worked mostly on it. Highly recommended people.
I attended this bike shop (not my normal branch) and my experience here was not welcoming. I was the only person in the shop yet I was made to wait to be seen. The lady at the counter with blonde hair wasn’t the friendliest and I honestly felt like because I was black that I was instantly judged or not treated like a valued customer. Will not be coming back to this branch again. There also was no diversity in their staff! Evans do better.
They do not want your business. 4 times I have spoken to them. 4 times they have said "send in photos". 4 times I have sent them. 4 times they have ignored me. Also, their phone is dodgy - the guy at the other end says "I can't hear you" (whichever phone you use) and hangs up on you. Maybe that is their tactic to avoid doing work? Go to a local bike shop that cares about their customers and wants the business instead
I arrived at this store totally lost, not knowing what it's like to have one of these new bikes. The assistant manager Evaius help me, from the Wimbledon store. He was really a perfect professional, It helped me with all my doubts and really, I left there with the certainty that I will always go back there to buy something for my bike. Thank you for all the attention and respect with me and my bike.
NEVER RECOMMENDED Ordered a bike a month ago, item was not shipped after many chasers (they did not know where the item is) They had to cancle my order but refund two weeks later is not made. Everytime i call the store they say they are looking in to it but no one gets back to me. Customer service are not responding despite my several messages. Still waiting for refund. Toal waste of money, time, and efforts!
Bought 4 bikes from them and by and large excellent service. They are generally helpful and polite. The click and collect service is very efficient. When they were a day late fixing a spoke on a tyre, they didn't charge me which I thought was very good as I wasn't in a rush anyway. Seems other people have had different experiences but as for me, happy with the response I've had and I have used the shop a lot.
Great selection of bikes quite impressive, however today I heard the swearing and shouting of the stores mechanics even saw them throwing the spanners around .. was going to buy a bike as well but I think I'll visit a different store. Shocking actually as several customers heard the same, not quite the image I think you'd like in today's economic climate.... Not impressed ...
I bought my bike there and the serice provided by Robin was absolutely outstanding! I've tried many different bikes and been guided carefully through the options. His knowledge and experience was exquisite. Patient and understanding customer's needs. If you want the best service in town - ask for Robin! btw the bike is amazing and exactly what I needed!
Having had a puncture earlier in the day I was pleased to see that Evans was open til 7 so rushed over with my bike and was there at 6.50. Admittedly it was a bit tight but I didn't expect to be turned away-when I've taken it to my local repairer it's never taken as long as 10 minutes to sort so he could have done it...certainly won't be going back.
I had a brilliant experience today in Evans. I picked up my bike after ordering it through the cycle to work scheme, and Craig at the front desk was exceptionally helpful - helping fit on a bottle rack, lights, and carrying it up to my car and putting in the boot for me. Top customer service despite what has been a challenging time for bike stores.
Very helpful and friendly staff. I had damaged my pedal to the point where i couldn’t get it off my bike. Even though I hadnt bought my bike through them, the staff were more than happy to remove the pedal and fit the new one...free of charge! Great customer service giving their time for free, you don’t get that much these days.
I booked an appointment through the website to have my bike serviced but on showing up to the store was told that the online booking system does not work and there was a two-week back-log. This seems like something pretty fundamental for the company to sort out! I have had a good experience with helpful staff here in the past.
I went in to get a wheel repaired or replaced. They looked at it and fixed it very quickly without cost. They could easily have sold me expensive replacement parts that were not needed. I have had bikes serviced in the past here and will definitely do so again. Great service. Thanks guys!
I had lots of mechanics work on my road race bike and would 100% trust them to do it again. I spoke with Anthony the most, and he listened to all of my questions/troubleshooting and they fixed a problem that a previous 2 bike shops were unable to resolve. Good deals on components as well.
We walked out of the Kingston store cos the service was so unhelpful, ill informed and rude. So we went to the Wimbledon store instead and the service could not have been more different - and better. Amelia was so knowledgeable, but also patient and really went out of her way to help us.
Great experience getting my new bike tuned up on the spot! Be aware though that they are all super busy working on bikes and serving customers face-to-face so I STRONGLY advise you to drop by the store and NOT rely on emails and phone calls if you want to be helped QUICKLY.
Brilliant service from Davide , Alfie and Tim offering advice on new wheels with honesty and integrity - they also did a fantastic bike service with nothing too much trouble ; can’t recommend them highly enough ; what your local bike shop should be like ! thanks gents!
Outstanding staff in shop. The manager Paul, has been extremely helpful in choosing the right bike, giving me expert advice and being so patient with my questions and was so kind in ensuring I had everything I needed for the new bike. Definitely highly recommended.
Took my bike in today because the back brakes were rubbing on the wheel and Petar fixed it in 10 minutes and explained it all to me. He was really friendly and also tightened my brakes and lubricated my chain for free as well! Great service and a really nice guy!
I was served by Amilia in Wimbledon. She was so helpful and couldn't have done any more to help. She knew exactly what I was talking about when it came to my girlfriends bike wheels and tyres. What a great experience and I would most certainly shop there again.
Jeremy, the assistant manager, helped me yesterday and today to get me my first bike. He gave me a run down from locks to different styles of wheels, even helped me ride a bike for a few seconds for the first time. Thank you again Jeremy and Evans Cycles:)
Terrible shop, staff and service. Never pick up the phone. Avoid. Took a brompton to be fixed under warranty. After 2 weeks, no news. I went to the store they said they couldn’t fix it. That was it. I wheeled it out and had to go to Brompton junction.
Wasn't sure what size for EMTB so went in. Mark and his team provided excellent customer service, bike was delivered in record time. After collection had issues and Ollie visited my house on the day and resolved it. Shop where staff love what they do.
Have called in twice in one week firstly for a puncture which happened not far from the store and secondly for a problem with my pedals. Jack could not have been more helpful. Superb customer service will definitely be back and would highly recommend
I've used this branch of Evans several times over the last 2 years and got great service every time from the knowledgeable staff. They have also fixed my bike 3 times. Most recently they repaired my bike chain very quickly and free of charge.
My wife and I have been regular customers of this store for the past 5-6 years. It's where I bought my first quality bike and it used to be a pleasure to go to. But it seems as if the place has really gone down the pan in the last 6 months.
Very disappointed. We had issues with a dangerously assembled and faulty bike, then after being sent a voucher to compensate for this LIFE RISK, we tried this store to purchase shoes. We had to go and collect a member of staff from chatting
Sent me a dudd bike. Front gears dont shift and covered in scratches. Spent £1,000 on a bike and accessories. Was told 10 days until I the bike would be delivered (took 26 days to receive a broken one) and still no news on the accessories
Long lead time to book a service and then over a week later they still haven’t started the service! I have therefore cancelled the service. Beware booking a time slot does not mean they will actually touch anytime close to that time slot!
I was spending a lot of money on an electric bike. The briefing on it wasn't great, I was sold a £50 lock which didn't fit, £50 grips which didn't fit, told it had a quick release rear wheel -- seriously? I had to insist on a copy of the
They dont answer the phone. I picked up a £1,000 bike after two appointments where they failed to let me in and then the gears dont work and the inner tube valve was leaking. Otherwise it was fine...can I get through on the phone to get
Had a fantastic experience here with all the team but in particular with Tim. As a novice cyclist looking to get into cycling, I was initially intimidated by all the kit and the all the knowledge needed. Fortunately Tim (who’s clearly a
Terrible customer service. Can't use overseas credit card to buy in store so had to order online. Some goods were kept in-store for me while the others were ordered. Extra goods never arrived, despite being told they will come. I'd had
Brilliant service by both Paul and another gentleman from the Essex store in helping me choose different bike accessories and purchase a bike. Purchase was made via the cycle to work scheme, and they made the whole process seem simple.
Personally I wouldn't even give this store a star. Absolutely shocking and inconsistent service from start to finish. No one took responsibility for my order / purchases. I was palmed off to a staff member who had little to no cycling
The guys in the back are so helpful, they fitted a new bolt to my mudguard quickly and free of charge! They are super friendly. I have also in past come here to get a tyre changed and they were really efficient on that occasion too.
Dropped my bike in for a full service and change of cassette, chain, cables and break pads this morning expecting it to take at least 2 days. They called me at 3pm to say it was done, great customer service and bike feels brand new!
Great customer service! Went to buy my first road bike this weekend and was assisted by Amelia who was incredibly patient and knowledgeable. I was also pleasantly surprised to find the price in store cheaper than advertised online.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Got my bike from here and guys are always happy to give advice and fix things if necessary. Special thanks to Mikah from the technical department (sorry maybe got the spelling wrong)
Very helpful, even though we came couple minutes before closing time. The wide range made me even more indecisive, so far the best shop around! Hopefully next visit will include a purchase. Thank you
Popped in at the weekend to get my bike chain sorted, Jamie was able to fix problem within in a few minutes, top service, top bloke and has put my faith back in Evans Cycles customer service 10/10.
Amelia and Chris of Evans Cycles Wimbledon were just terrific. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They made my purchase process and decision enjoyable. Can’t recommend them enough…
I had the loveliest experience here today. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful and fixed my bike at very short notice. I could not fault! Highly recommend.
Excellent service from Magic Miguel from Mallorca. Arrived unannounced and he promptly replaced my brake pads. Also provided me with some unmissable advice.
