I came here on a Tuesday morning. The day after their grand opening. This is an awkward location, but convenient for those that work or commute around the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal. They are located on the ground level of the GWB Bus Terminal on the south side of 179 St. between Fort Washington Ave and Broadway. This block is where lots of MTA buses are always parked, and it gets a lot of traffic because the entrance of the George Washington Bridge (GWB) is right there. I’ve been watching them slowly renovate and build the space for this supermarket. During construction, it has come together nicely. A few weeks before opening, they were cleaning the store and filling in inventory. So far, it is immaculate. Super clean and organized. They are still filling in some of the refrigerators and shelves. But it’s about 95% filled. They have rotisserie chickens, and many choices of prepared foods sold by the pound. Also, a salad station. And all the staples you expect to find. Check out the circular on their website for this specific location to find sales and deals for the week. It’s always nice to have another grocery store in the neighborhood to keep prices of other stores down. Prices here seem reasonable for most items. They are very in line with other local grocery stores. There has been a lot of talk in the community about wanting a Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods to move into this location. Fine Fair got the space and we should give them a chance. The other 2 locations nearby have mixed reviews on Yelp: St Nicholas Ave and 191 St has 2.5 stars. Broadway and Dyckman St has 2 stars. Right now, this store is awesome, but it’s easier to open a clean store than maintain one. Only time will tell how this location ‘fares’.

I purchased the Purina Dog Chow on 6/27/22 around 1:30pm with cash. After purchasing this item I went home and fed it to my dog who within 4-6 hours after eating this product proceeded to throw up consistently for hours in addition to consistent popping. I then planned to return the item in exchange for another product from this location. I came to return the product (without my receipt) as I did not expect to return this product in exchange for another - and the manager stated even if I had the receipt I could not exchange it because the product was open. I conducted a test trail with my pet to see if it was anything else that could cause her to throw up & pop uncontrollably. I went a purchased a different brand of food at a different location and feed that to her about 24-hours later after allowing her to only intake water for a bit to clear her system. After feeding her a different brand of food my pet has no issues and is back to her normal happy, playful self. I understand that because it is open certain things cannot be done, however due to this product causing an illness that never happened before with my pet there needs to be something else in place especially when it causes harm to another. No the product was not expired. The head cashier tried to assist however her manager who does not speak english told her he was not able to anything due to the product being used/open. The company purina I’m sure is responsible however so is this fine fair at this location which I will no longer be shopping at. Customer Service, learn how to truly service the customer especially one that is clam and respectful such as myself

I have given this Supermarket sooooo many chances and I wanted to like it ,it is in a convenient location but seriously there is soooo much wrong with this place...I can not tell you how many times I have had to return ground beef that I purchased THAT day and once i got it home and opened the package it was rancid, that goes for cheeses as well as cut melon and deli prepared foods....it's as if there is NO regard for expiration dates...it's so disappointing...YES when i return the item , they always agree that it has gone bad well before the date indicated on packaging and they DO REFUND my money, but it's as if they are just trying to push as much through before someone complains. ..the younger staff is absolutely horrendous in customer service, I mean truly aweful...the older staff members are very helpful and courteous.( 5 stars to the 2 women at the back registers by the GWB terminal, they are honestly the reason i go back)..the frozen food section is well stocked as well as the dairy section ( this I would definitely say is this locations best asset )...I HOPE SOMEONE IN THE STORE'S MANAGEMENT TEAM reads this review and does something about the issues , because I believe this Super market could be amazing if the right people managed it , or if they re evaluated their priorities

Updated 2/12/2020: I was really looking forward to this Fine Fare opening up in the GWB bus terminal. Until now, Key Food on 187th street was the closest option for anyone living on 181st or above. This Fine Fare is nicely organized and maintained. It's also easily accessible from either the street or the subway. My disappointment has to do with the selection of products. First, there are few choices of organic or natural food products. Second, the brands offered are generally lower quality, cheaper brands, alongside more mainstream, established brands. There are few unique or specialty products. Prices are generally competitive with other large supermarkets in the area. Some items, like gallons of water, are more expensive, while other items are about the same. This Fine Fare does score points for serving drip coffee. They also had a small cafe sitting area, complete with a large fish tank, but sadly those are now gone. They also have rotisserie chickens and a deli section (no more hot food bar). And the freshly baked croissants are excellent. Time will tell if the product selection gets a little more varied or stays about the same. For now, I'm sure a lot of people will benefit from having this store in the neighborhood.

Two stars for selection, one star for great prices on a (very) few key items (like eggs), but negative two stars due to some incredibly ridiculous prices on a significant number of items (Lactaid milk price 30% higher than most stores). I am not a fan of price gouging, and I feel some of that is happening. Additionally, it seems clear that the person setting the prices at this location either doesn't understand value (a 4lb pork shoulder was more than 50% cheaper than the milk - that gap doesn't make sense), or thinks they can charge the same prices as stores on the the East Side. This is The Heights. When your prices are the same as Bodegas, most of my people choose the Bodega - we'd rather support a mom and pop store if the price is about the same. The benefit of a big market is supposed to be better prices than a small corner store. Do better. Also, you may want/need to hire someone with market knowledge of store pricing.

Just had the worst experience at this location at 8am. The cashier always has a i dont want to be here face, and she is usually the only cashier in the morning when they open. The products and the prices on the shelf are always wrong!! Please check your receipts. Today however i looked at all the prices as I collected my items. One item rung up for more than listed on the shelf and the cashier supervisor (by the lotto section) stated that its the price scanned and not the shelf. No adjustments or exceptions were made eventhough she went to the shelf and saw the price. This was unacceptable because then they should fix the prices on the shelf so people know the correct price! Im glad i noticed it this time! Will not be shopping here anymore with all this deceit going on!

Prices on any number of products are obscenely jacked up, and clearly this new outlet feels empowered to max out prices seeing as how they are the only full featured supermarket outlet within walking dustance since the Bravo on 181st and Broadway lost its lease. Some examples? Dry Lentils, $1.89, compared to Smile on 181st, $1.19. Fage Greek Yogurt, $9.29, compared to Fairway on 128th, $6.99. Boarshead Turkey, sundry varieties, $11.49 a Pound, compared to $8.99-9.99 at any local Bodega. Baby Spinach, 11 ounces, $6.99, compared to $4.99 at Key Food on 187th and Broadway. I could go on. Clearly, Fine Fare feels emboldened as the only supermarket within walking distance of Broadway & 181st Street (Bravo, 175th, Key Food, 187th, Associated, 187th and Fort Washington).

Their produce is ALWAYS bruised. I don't go here for produce. Other groceries are fine. It's a smaller store compared to other supermarkets in the area, but they have all the basics and then some (just not a lot of variety). Prices are so-so. This is the closest grocery store to me but I prefer some others that are less conveniently located, so I'll sometimes go out of my way to go to a better store than this (but I do shop here more than anywhere else). You can access this grocery store without needing to go above ground via a connection from the A train at 175 St Station/GWB Bus Terminal passage. The terminal has other stores, including Marshalls, a juice/smoothie shop, coffee place, frozen yogurt spot, etc.

I have been traveling through Port Authority for the pasted 3 years and I feel that this was a must in the mall. Yes, people might see it as a regular supermarket but hey if you leave to work at 6am and you do not get home until after 8pm and every thing is literally close in the small town you then yes this definitely a life saver. As soon as I found out that they were going to be opening a location here, I have been waiting religiously. I know all the supermarkets in the area since my parents live there and I can tell you I was tire of caring bags 4 blocks just to get to the bus station so definitely thumbs up for it.

  • Dana Kline

We used to think they were great. Unfortunately, whoever creates their store rules is pretending to know about public health but has no idea what they are doing. It is flat out DANGEROUS to enforce store policy that way. Not only have they managed to enforce wasting a limited resource but it isn't even for a good reason!! Risking shoppers health because they want to look like they are being extra cautious is not a good look. Instead of pretending to be extra cautious, maybe they should focus on running a good grocery store and actually trust the judgment of those of us who have degrees in public health.

Tonight was the last time I will shop at this store. It’s not the first time I’ve found expired food in this store, but there’s a lot of items so I presumed it had been overlooked. But tonight I found mold, lots of it, all over the blackberries that were on sale. And then the field roast section had mold all over them and all over the shelving in the produce section. DISGUSTING! There’s always workers visible in the store but clearly they are paying attention to the turnover of product and making sure their refrigerators are working properly. This place needs to be shut down by the health department.

  • T

This place is a disaster on so many levels. But it’s the lesser evil of the other grocery stores in this neighborhood. Completely Overpriced. 2 stars for the in a pinch well stocked frozen foods, considering most to everything there fresh or not frozen is about to expire. And there is one very helpful gentleman employee who speaks and understands English fluently and is always very helpful with getting something out of the many boxes that are always blocking the aisles that no one has bothered to schedule to unpack. Probably why everything is about to expire. Products sit in boxes for weeks.

Convenient to get to from subway. Great for someone going home to NJ. Organic produce section, soups, warm food by the pound, nice dairy section and meat section. Some items are priced to bring you in, and other items are price traps as they cost too much. Regardless, it is nice get food near a bustop to go home. It also has a small section of three small tables to eat in. I have seen better warm food bars than the one in this store. Cake and cookie section is mostly over priced.

  • David Brown

It's big and they have a lot of options but the prices are outrageous. Just about everything is overpriced and if you don't believe me, go to the Key Food on Saint Nicholas and compare. As of July 2023, I paid a total of $9 for a pint of non dairy ice cream and a tub of blue bunny ice cream. One pint of Haagen Daas is $8 at Fine Fare. I get that you pay for the nice exterior but sorry, the quality of the products aren't much better than any other supermarket in the neighborhood.

  • Michael Lamon

Fine Fare, a new staple to the Heights. While it is slightly overpriced, you can find some deals here on produce. This is by far the most spacious and clean supermarket in the neighborhood and is accessible from inside the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal and the 175th St MTA (A Train) Station. The staff are always friendly and the lines are reasonably short. You may not find any specialty food items here and may have to search around for anything unique.

  • Cory

Produce and meat selection is so-so and prices are high. Vegetables are almost never fresh and are way overpriced. They sell expired salad bags (one bag was marked 9/24 and was still on the shelf on 9/29). Meat prices are OK but they don't keep enough stock - half of the time there are no boneless chicken thighs, for example. Great location and clean, but wish this store were a little more reasonably priced and well-stocked on produce and meat.

  • Jonathan Levitt

Typical scamathon at this place.. charging an arm and a leg in wait for it Washington heights... how they get away charging 7$ for hero jam is beyond me. It’s more expensive than associated by187th. Selection is lacking .... mostly Goya and frozen foods... what little else they have is not competitively priced. Refrigerated Juice section has doors that don’t really keep the product that cold.

  • Space2Dance NYC

It's well structured store. Everything is easy to find, even if they might change the placing of few items. The Deli department is also up to the overall standard of the store. Prices are on average about 10% higher than other markets. "Masks on" is advised and I wish all the store employees would still have their masks on ... however, employees has always been friendly and helpful!

  • Elisabeth Shoup

Pros: best variety by far of grocery stores in this area. Cons: a lot of things are WAAAY over packaged. I bought smoked ham that was packaged in plastic and then additionally packaged in styrofoam and more plastic. Picture below. Also, I find that a lot of the produce is not fresh. I go there when I need something that I can’t get at LaRosa. Otherwise I avoid for these reasons.

  • Raquel Dominguez

This grocery store is the worst around, they continuously sell expired goods and low quality produce. When brought to the managers attention regarding expired items he has the nerve to say he can leave it out up to 5 days after expiration, very dishonest IMO. Do yourselves a favor and if you absolutely must buy here make sure to check all expiration dates on everything.

  • Sapheya Saber

Super rude staff. They demanded for paperwork in a super rude way for my service animal because “anybody can say they have one” we told them that’s not allowed so they called their manager, the manager just asked for paperwork too. They clearly don’t know that’s against the law. It also doesn’t make any sense to require gloves to enter the store, but whatever.

  • Amanda Mikelberg

Delighted to have a brand new, spacious, reasonable, clean supermarket with a fuller selection than any crummy small grocer up here. (there are decent stores like the bravo on 175th, but it is small and is often out of stock items). really glad to have a full-fledged supermarket in walking distance now that carry my favorite brand of potato pancake! wooo!

  • Josie P.

This Fine Fare has great selection compared to other supermarkets in area. I just the had better selection in the meats and seafood as well. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall it’s well stock when it comes to can goods. They also have a small wine selection which it’s alright. There produce area is well kept and organized.

  • Rommel Martinez

I only come here when they have the things I want on sale. And even then I have to check the labeling because some of they're products are expired. Make sure you double check your receipt too. Also, it seems like the staff have little to no customer service experience and they most definitely profile here because of the neighborhood.

  • Rich Morgan

I only regret sharing this review because i want this supermarket to myself! This hidden gem tucked underneath the GWB is one of the nicest, cleanest and freshest display of food I've ever seen in a supermarket. The place is immaculately clean and the array of food is incredible. And it's almost always quiet when i go!

  • Gail Nicholson

On the plus side, it's a large, well stocked store. On the negative side, pricing isn't competitive with other groceries in the neighborhood and the service at the deli counter is horrible (be prepared to be ignored even if you're the only customer and there are three unoccupied employees behind the counter).

  • Chelsea S

Excellent super market. Large aisles with full size carts. Fresh products and more choices than other markets in the area (like Bravo or smaller local markets). Also healthier choice options. So glad this new, clean super market opened in this convenient area. I would trust buying produce or meats here.

  • kd d

Clean, well lit, had express lines, convenient location. Some item prices were slightly higher than anticipated for the neighborhood but they are in line with Fine Fare pricing in other locations. For weekly purchasing Whole foods and fairway have higher quality and perhaps similar pricing.

  • Elizabeth Shaner

I would give zero stars if I could. The staff is always INCREDIBLY rude. They toss your groceries around and scream over you to one another across the store all while sucking lollipops. Seriously if you can save yourself the trouble, don’t go here. The staff and product are disgusting.

  • M.

Great variety, large and well stocked. No service at the back of the store though. There’s tons of produce but you do have to look through it to find what’s actually good. Their prices are a little crazy sometimes but they’re super friendly and deliver the groceries at no extra fee!

  • lisa yoffie

I visited this store today and I do not see it as having anything new or different than any other store has in the area, it also doesn't have hours that are any different than Bravo, Key Food or Gristedes. After 10 oo pm there are no markets here. Not impressed, step up the game.

  • Suzanne Sykes

Beware! Masks seem to be completely optional, and since management is nowhere to be found, be prepared to have a slur thrown your way for asking “where is your mask?” Prices are very high and masks are optional? Think we have much better options in our neighborhood. Never again!

  • HO!!! HO!!! ho?

every night about 10 min to closing I just make it to the supermarket an i always come to locked doors. If u close at 11 stay open till 11..... if u close at 10 stay open till 10...... not 954 0r 1050. I stopped shopping there due to always having out o stocks on sale items .

  • H K

Meat taste like detergent!!! I purchased beef today for $6.17 at a cost of $9.99 per pound. Unfortunately, I detected a detergent taste from the meat which has happened twice recently. Additionally, the yellow bananas were priced at $1.29 per pound which is quite expensive.

  • John Wu

Good for last minute groceries before going into New Jersey or Manhattan. Staff is aloof Produce is limited. Meats are pricey. Nice refrigerated section for dairy products. They are complying NYC rule on plastic bags but charge 34 cents for one

  • Marcy Meza

I love this supermarket!! I’ve moved To Washington Heights a year ago & finally found a real supermarket that carries a variety of almost everything & fully stock .The location is a little hidden . But I found it going to Marshall’s right by it.

  • Samantha Tse

Bought boxed Kraft mac n cheese and attempted to cook it a few hours later. Found BUGS inside. Weevils to be exact. Beware of your dry rice and pasta. These bugs spread easily so I wouldn't be surprised if they were elsewhere in store.

  • saqib shami

Nice supermarket located in Washington Heights. They have a wide variety of produce and items. The store is organized nicely as well. The prices are not too bad considering it is New York City. Will definitely be coming back.

  • Ricardo Gomez

I think because it's in such a strange location, that it doesn't get the business and attention it should. It's a fantastic supermarket. You have lower-priced and more expensive items. Great variety. Clean. Well-priced.

  • Raquel

I expect more from this store, they have a wide variety of meats and cuts but it’s so unfortunate that half the time the meat is brown like it’s old. I mostly go for produce or certain sales.

  • Mia S

This is the only real supermarket in the area for us folx that need something quick. Its pricey so I get necessities here. They do have decent warm food and a cute fresh in house sushi bar.

  • Junior Diaz

Very clean and professional. Who ever is managing this location has trained the staff well. Everything well organize and for a person who is OCD this (the picture) is very well received.

  • Emilie Samson

They have a wide selection but the prices are always marked wrong and items are extremely overpriced. By overpriced, I mean 12$ for a loaf of bread, I don’t call that a fine fare.

  • Bob Underwood

Store closes early 10 minutes before the actual closing time and they rush you out. Options are limited and items are expensive compared to other stores in the neighborhood

  • Arlene Rodriguez

Well Everytime I go I could fine everything I need some people are very friendly.in the deli there is. A short man he great with me and my daughter.like to say thank you.

  • A R

One of the employees here makes a habit of walking around the store making passive aggressive comments at people wearing masks. Great shopping experience otherwise.

  • Daniel Zolo

Nice clean. People who work are really helpful. Prices aren't any different then anywhere else in the neighborhood. Shelves are well stocked . Meat is so-so.

  • Fabian Medina

This store still has fresh fruits and vegetables! This is very important to me and my family! Otherwise I'll just buy off the guy from the street corner :D

  • Miranda Vargas

They're good recent cashier's are better, place is clean a bit but what are you going to do it is what it is I recommend they just too expensive …

  • Destiny Warner

I love this store, great vegan section for me and sushi really rocks and that saying a lot considering they sell it in the supermarket already made.

  • Fabrício Kury

The prices are not the best, but this relatively new supermarket has arrived to become one of the best quality in the area. The produce are great.

  • Dustin D'Addato

One of the best supermarkets in the area. Bthe produce leaves a little something to be desired but offerso3e choices than other places.

  • Seth Guthartz

Such a nice grocery store. Friendly staff. Not the deepest selection of vegetarian minded products, but otherwise good.

  • Wansy Calderon

Great environment but it does not justify the prices. I paid double for the same things I normally get in food bazar.

  • Myles Miller

I've picked moldy food off the shelves before, and the cashiers sometimes scan items twice. Avoid this store.

  • carmen morales

Love the sanitary there and all Clean organized ilies can't right it they help u nicely …

  • J

Great food selection. However, the employees here are extremely rude and hostile.

  • Lester Baptiste

Nice place and convenient stop before home. And they have beer too!! YAY!!

  • June Saelim

Overpriced, baby spinach for $8.90 it’s double from other places

  • Bentley Ferraina

Love the LaCroix reorganization and larger selection.
