I did an online order. When I went in to get it they said we had called and added something to our order. As I informed them that neither me or my wife added the item they QUESTIONED me instead of just removing them. I explained several times we had been side by side in the car all morning and there was no call made to add anything. Free waiting and actually having my wife pause her business call to come in and verify. The rude waitress ( not at the front register but whoever was packing the order at the food counter.) went to GET THE MANAGER for him to question again and then inform her to remove the item. I felt extremely unheard and in a very bad position that they were unable to comprehend that I knew I didn’t add anything to our order. Even more so there website “had been down” and I’m worried about how secure it is…. Anyways. The best part is my wife who was accused of calling and adding FRIED WINGS!….. cannot even eat the item that was requested without becoming violently ill. It was a big deal when it shouldn’t have been. Funny thing as I was walking out I heard the lady come in and say “I added (said item) to my call in order to which they replied we don’t have an order for you . We go often and take family there and we won’t be back because of the terrible service I received and from the unnecessarily rude woman today. I know it’s not a big deal to them but it was to us.

First off let me explain to you this food was different. It was delicious, it was flavorful and most importantly it was an experience that my girlfriend and I won't forget. I love burgers and fries so what did I get? The green Chile cheese burger with sweet potato fries and it was amazing it had green Chiles, mushrooms (I believe) cheese, lettuce, tomato, a ridiculously thick patty and their home made buns. It was amazing. My lovely got the Mac and cheese with crispy chicken and broccoli that was outrageous and I believe the chef deserves a raise, lots of praise and a photo in the Food Hall of Fame. We then got dessert. Let me tell you one thing. Forget any other dessert because theirs wins. I got the chocolate cream pie and My Lady got the turtle cheesecake. I should stop right there but no, you guys deserve this, like my mouth needed soap when I swore as a kid. Please do yourself and your taste buds a favor when in Albuquerque, go to Flying Star Cafe don't waste your time elsewhere, I guarantee you'll be back for more. Til next time friends, see you soon!

I've come to Flying Star for many years, a staple in Albuquerque. Never tried their green chile cheeseburger though. I usually get the awesome breakfast burrito, but after being told that they were out of potatoes, which is completely unacceptable on Sunday at noon when there are plenty of places to get potatoes, i decided to try the burger. Cooked perfectly to medium, the perfect propositions of green chile, cheese and lettuce made it very easy to eat. Very juicy and definitely wasn't pressed on the grill to preserve juices. Bread was good and soft. I usually like a firmer bun, but it was browned on the skillet so it had a nice crunch. Fries were crispy which I love, but only warm. Tasted a little dry and like they've been sitting a while. We also had the Buddha bowl with grilled chicken which is very healthy and tasty, highly recommend that if you are on a healthier track. Overall good experience, but I've had better. Hoping it was just an off day. I'll still be back, but maybe I'll call ahead next time to make sure they have potatoes. And eggs. And tortillas... Lol.

Although the food was undeniably delicious, I remembered why I don't often frequent Flying Star Cafe. Plain and simple - sticker shock. I ordered a build your own omelet and a coffee. My bill was over $17. I ended up paying just over $20 with a tip. I asked for extra crispy bacon, cheese and both red and green chile smothered over the top with more cheese plus some avocado slices. Again, the food was very tasty. I have zero complaints as to the taste. I have a hard time paying THAT much for an omelet and coffee. This is a problem in general with any of their prices. Their food is generally pretty good but I think they would draw more customers with an improvement in their pricing. I hear this complaint from lots of friends. My wife went there to meet a client the other day and ended up paying, if I recall correctly, something like $9 for a scone. If this was a Michelin star rated restaurant then I could see charging those kinds of prices but that is not the case. Obviously plenty of others disagree and give them their business but I have to wonder why.

Sadly, I have to make this bad review on this place. Today I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, over medium, with red chile. It comes with bean and papitas, specifically. I got hard eggs, and oven roasted potatoes way overcooked where a skin had formed on the potatoes. My friend ordered their special New Mexico Casuela dish. He said the pork meat was not cooked enough, that it was hard as leather and that the base/broth had no flavor. To be honest this is the first time I've ever ordered "ethnic" food vs. white food there. I was greatly disappointed and paid $15 for overcooked eggs and potatoes. Papitas are not cooked in the oven. They are not hard, they are steamed and soft. Next time I'll just stick to what they should know how to cook, pancakes and hamburgers. Also, the sodas we ordered were flat and they did exchange it for peach tea. Yikes! No regular black tea, there! Neither of us even bothered for boxes to take home. We both left 3/4 of our food on the plates and most of the tea, too!

My SO ordered the Mediterranean Beyond burger and it was a definite step up from the last time she ordered it. I had the Buddha Bowl and it was amazing. You can get it with white or brown rice which I would recommend. My father-in-law had a Cheese and Turkey Jack. He enjoyed it but did say it was a little dry. I would definitely recommend coming here if you want good food, a nice atmosphere and pleasant staff.

Flying star is my favorite restaurant but for some reason this location sucks now. Maybe a month ago I came in to grab my pickup order and was given the wrong food, then was left standing there waiting for a long time as they tried to find my order. Eventually they figured out they had mistakenly given my order to a door dasher. I then had to wait longer while they remade my food, which came out overdone and just bad in general. Last night I ordered door dash from flying star and accidentally selected this location instead of the location closest to my house. Again it was a flop- my grilled cheese was burnt, sweet potato fries were bland and soggy, and they forgot the wonton chips for my girlfriend’s Buddha bowl. I’ve visited this location many times since I was a kid and always had a good experience, but lately it seems it’s just not what it used to be. I’d visit a different location if I were you.

Maybe we went in an off day. We went in looked at the menu. When we went up to order, the person was making a drink. There was a line forming and she didn’t call for help and nor did the others walking around come over to help until we were waiting for over 5 minutes. My tea cup was dirty. I went to get a new one and she looked in 5 cups before she got a clean one. Our food did come out pretty quickly. However, my son’s rice was just mush. It was over cooked. My fries were over cooked. Fries should be crispy not too hard to eat. We wanted to like this place because we are new to the area but we won’t be going back. We thought that the packed parking lot meant it was going to be really good but nope.

Decided to try this place as everything else was packed because of the balloon fiesta and while the service was fast and friendly the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered the ranch breakfast with eggs over easy and bacon. The eggs weren’t cooked thoroughly, the whites were completely raw and the bacon was slightly cooked. Still very raw looking, didn’t realized I needed to ask for my bacon to be cooked I guess. The toast was very basic sliced bread you can buy at any grocery store. I didn’t touch my second egg nor any of the bacon. They got busier as we were there so honestly didn’t care to complain but yeah, just don’t order breakfast here.

The food is ok. The service can be slow. I do not like that when there is more than one person in my party everyone has to order before anyone gets to pay. So we have to wait to order and then wait to pay. That makes no sense. They also seem to have an aversion to cleaning tables. The last two times I came in it was not busy and all of the tables that were not occupied were dirty. As I placed my order I asked if a table could be cleaned off so when my order was ready I could sit down. I walked around with my tray in my hand looking for a clean table and finally just cleaned a table off myself. How hard is this? Workers were just standing around.

Oh my goodness we love this place!!! It's always sooooo good and welcoming! I'm surprised I had a photo to share because the food goes so fast! It's so yummy! And the desserts!!!! Oh my! If you have room, the desserts are outstanding! And the staff! They all are AMAZING!!!! So nice and helpful! The place was sooooo clean and it was The day before Thanksgiving AND the dinner rush! Love it! We like to sit on the patio when it's nice outside too! It's just a really cool spot! And their seasonal menu is cool too! I had the stew pot chicken and ate every last bite! It's full of veggies and chicken and this delicious fresh biscuit! Just go lol it's fantastic!

I appreciate honesty with commitment to customer service. My last visit to Flying Star was on a busy Sunday early afternoon. A friend and I chose a local restaurant that we knew served quality food. When we placed our orders the staff member who assisted us was upfront and straightforward: she stated that the restuarant was very busy and our meals would take over 20 minutes. We smiled and said thank you; it's like this, we wanted to enjoy conversation anyway, so there was not an inconvenience. Yet, because staff members handled the matter professionally we knew exactly what to expect. That's my point: I believe when customers are treated respectfully they really don't mind a few additional minutes. Gratitude for caring about your patrons!

This place is so accommodating for dogs! As a visitor to Albuquerque I was looking for a dog friendly place to go for lunch with my pup. After speaking with the staff at the counter they were happy to get us comfortable on the patio. They gave us a bag of treats and bowl of water and came out to visit with us. It was easy to leave my dog outside secured, order inside at the counter and the staff did the rest. Even while inside ordering another patron later told me they were watching my dog just in case. So nice! I was told by the staff how much the owners love dogs as well and it certainly made us feel welcome and appreciated. Food was wonderful too. I had a soup and salad that was super fresh and very tasty.

Flying Star may not be the hippest place in town for those after macadamia-nut-milk matcha lattes, but it does still manage to provide friendly service and reliably good drink/food staples, despite the seemingly ubiquitous quality downturns plagueing the industry in a post-covid world. That being said, there were several tables on the floor sitting unbussed for our entire visit. Otherwise, the counters, most tables, and visible service areas looked clean and well-maintained.

Came highly recommended so maybe that’s why it was such a disappointment. First off cashier seemed very uninterested in helping and literally walked away during the order Unexplained. Got my drink order wrong, I didn’t say anything because not that big of a deal I would drink it anyway. Maybe 10 minutes later my burger comes out and I am shocked to find it cold. I don’t think I have ever been served a burger and bun that were actually cold, like it had been sitting out for over an hour. My fries also tasted old. I ended up just tossing the food and leaving. But obviously my experience is not like that average, so it could just be a one off. Also quite pricey for what I saw of the portions.

We ordered from Flying star for the first time ever. We both ordered the Huevos Ranchero with Xmas Chile. It was done on time and service was friendly BUT the Chile was horrible. Not even a little heat and it was just gross. And it was cold. Presentation was beautiful but food was just bad. We will never eat anything with Chile again at Flying star and I’ll bet we’ll never eat anything from there again because of how not good the food was. Though y’all should no.

I love flying stars's desserts so much! The are decadent and delicious and everything dreams are made of. Usually they are $6 to $9 a slice but this location has started their first Tuesday $4 slice again and I cannot be more excited! I got the pumpkin pecan cheesecake slice today and it was everything an autumn dessert is meant to be! The employees were so friendly and helpful! There was a line but it moved quickly! The parking lot is small but there is additional parking along the street.

The front staff was very friendly and kind but unfortunately that was it for the good things. We ordered 2 cheese burgers. One with bacon and one with avocado. And 2 drinks. 30 dollars later im thinking we should have gone down the street to Jack in the box. First my burger was brought out without cheese. Then the worst part was both burgers were undercooked in the middle to the point were i couldn't even eat it. A little pink is fine but its usually nice and juicy. This was pink and dry. Making it seem like it was not cooked properly. So sadly the good staff couldn't bring up this lackluster food experience.

  • Janeane S

It was my first time at the Menaul location. I ordered a Beyond Classic Burger with fries. It tasted a little fishy, not pleasant at all. Never had this experience at other locations. Maybe they cooked their fries in the same oil as the fish n chips? Or toasted the bun in fish oil? I don't know exactly but I didn't enjoy it as I have in the past. I wanted to return the food but it took a long time to come so I figured it would take just as long againif I ordered something else so I just ate it anyways. I wont be going back.

I drink London fogs at least once week from Satellite Cafe for years. I went to flying star this morning assuming there quality would be the same. I ask the cashier for a London fog and she rolled her eyes? She didn't use loose tea. She used a concentrate from the refrigerator? It tasted like almond milk with no earl gray flavor. I had to go home to steep loose tea in the milk. Never going back for london fog. You can tell staff doesn't like to make London fogs by her expression? You can tell the quality in making London fogs is suboptimal.

I guess I’m just not a fan of healthy food. I ordered the chicken strip dinner and it was “interesting”. I did manage to eat the entire meal. To be fair, however both my sister and her husband love the food here. My brother in law even has a credit card that’s linked so he gets points for eating there. They are both really into healthy living and really enjoy the diversity in the meals they provide.

This place is very nice and clean with friendly staff. However we ordered the two birds and received a burnt chicken so I politely asked if they could get it fixed because it did taste good but had a heavy burnt after taste. They did fix it but when they gave us the new one we had no eggs so I gave up and ate it. Would have loved to enjoy it with egg. Over all I think we will come back but kinda leaven disappointment this trip. Jack was super nice and helpful tho.

The Food was extremely expensive for a cafe. i paid 27 dollars for a burger, fries, and a coke. i was not checked upon one time during my visit. the food was decent, but sure as heck not worth 27 bucks for a burger. they were not too busy, and looked very well staffed, and was surprised nobody came to even say hello or see if i wanted a refill or anything. bought my food ate it and left. was expecting a little more friendliness as well. nobody greeted me on my way in, and no greeting on my way out. was about 330, not busy at all.

I ordered the French dip with a cup of soup of the day which was some kind of Chile veggie soup. It was horrible the potatoes were still hard and the meat in the sandwich tasted old and from a freezer. Other than that service was good they didn't tell me the soup was $1 extra so make sure u ask about substitutions they charge. Update still haven't received any type of communication from flying star after visiting thier website it's all a show they just want our money.

Flying Star Menaul needs to up their game. Keep the coffee fresh, even though it's dinner time when most people aren't drinking coffee. Never serve a gluten-free hamburger bun that has gone straight from the freezer to the griddle, that comes out so hard that literally it can not be cut with a knife. Keep the counter attendants looking vaguely interested in the customer, and listening to the little details such as "extra mayonnaise" or "ask them to include a takeout box". In general, folks, try and look like you care.

  • Alireza T Afshari

I heard about this place and today I had a chance to try it! I had Giant Eclair and hot Mexican latte! It is a nice and clean place with friendly service. Eclair wasn’t fresh for that time of morning and coffe wasn’t something special! Also their pastries are little pricey, you can get daily baked slices from Whole Foods for half a price or get 3 fresh donuts filled with Bavarian cream from Two Boys ! I read lots of good reviews about their food so I need to try it again to update my review! For now just 3 ⭐️!

  • L KY

The server Ava was very sweet and gracious. Food was good. Late dinning and everyone was treated to a sample taste test of a dessert. The cook ‍ was delightful as we were the last ones in the restaurant, he was in such a joyous and cheerful mood...singing as he cleaned up the grill. Made us smile and sing along! As a travel nurse, it is nice to find a gem such as this Flying Star location to make traveling happier. Highly recommend this specific location!!!!

  • Objects Vintage

Eh. At least the coffee is good. I ordered breakfast and my eggs were pretty raw. Like the whites were clear all throughout. I had them take them away and let them know that they were pretty undercooked. They didn't remake them or ask me anything else. So I just paid $13 dollars for potatoes, toast and some turkey sausage, which although tasty was definitely super dry.

Met a friend at Flying Star on Menaul. I haven’t been in quite some time. I was appalled at the cost. It was nearly $20 for a cup of coffee and five small, dollar size pancakes. That was bad enough. But that wasn’t the worst of it. I looked up at the lamp and ceiling and were both covered in cobwebs. Does no one see these? Very unsettling. Probably won’t be back if I can help it. They are too expensive for such a dirty restaurant.

Ordered a jasmine tea and she gave me Jade. Had to ask for a replacement. When I did she said, "I had asked you numerous times which green tea you wanted". She had a bit of a deceptive tone and I don't think we will be coming back to this location. I'm not about to be corrected by a cashier/server when I'm certain of what I said. Plus the cooks were having a bit of an argument behind our booth. Not ok.

Good food. Their breakfast burritos are probably my favorite. Lots of good flavor. Departs from the traditional New Mexican breakfast burrito that you'd find say a place like Twisters. Not nearly as hot, but still loads of flavor. A bit on the pricey side though. I think the burrito was around $15. No servers, and thus no tip, so that's a bonus for those who care.

Love the atmosphere at Flying Star! Unfortunately some of the recipes keep changing to smaller sizes, increased prices and so e overall decrease in tastefulllness. For example, the carrot cake recipe changed. $80 for one cake and it's super dry. We repeated the order (a slice) at another location and were told it's a new recipe. I love this place but please fix the carrot cake

This was one our first stops as suggested by my niece-in-law. You an see a lot of Mexican influence in the menu. My partner had the Stew Pot Chicken which She thoroughly enjoyed. I had the fish tacos. My tacos were long on coleslaw and short on fish which made them a lot messier than I am used to back East. The spiciness was spot on which I really enjoyed.

Usually love Flying Star, their food is great, but the last two times the order has been messed up and something was missing. The first time i was understanding due to the current situation but then it happened again. They even seal the bag do you can't check that everything is there until you're home. I enjoy the food but for the price it would be nice to have everything I paid for and to have the right food given to me.

The huevos rancheros was delicious and had the perfect level of heat. They're short staffed but their attitude was great. There was only one guy busing tables and he was really working to stay on top of things. I got a hamentaschen cookie to go and it was delicious. The iced coffee was refreshing and good quality. I added a pic of the $19 fish for my fish n’ chips. I have given flying star more than a few chances, but they keep getting worse and worse. I understand there is inflation, but these are basically fish nuggets. I am telling everyone I know not to eat here anymore, they don’t care about their customers and it shows.

The service was very good. The cauliflower "wings" were delicious. The Beyond Mediterranean Burger was okay but too expensive for what you get. The Vegan Street Tacos got mixed reviews. One person really liked them, the other thought they were just okay. It's a nice atmosphere but kind of pricey for what you get.

The food tasted great and presentation was nice. The portion size was very much lacking for the pricepoint however. I would have rated higher if not that. I had chicken tenders with fries and friend had a Buddha bowl. That with one soda and a cheese cake slice was nearly $40. My only hope is that the employees are paid well due to the pricing however I do not know if that is the case.

The food at Flying Star is delicious, as is their beverage selection. I recommend their mac'n'cheese grilled cheese sandwich and their tomato bisque, which I recently enjoyed on a rainy day. The only complaint I could possibly make is the price of their desserts, but times being what they are it's too be expected.

Left Santa Fe today and headed down to Albuquerque NM to widen my search for a place to live. Too early to check into my hotel so at the recommendation of my realtor, I decided to have lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the place. Ate outdoors with such a beautiful day to enjoy!

I go here often. Mostly for the bottomless cup of coffee and the atmosphere. Even though the food is good, I rarely eat it because it's stupid pricey. $7 for a plate of lettuce and a couple tomatoes. And that's the cheapest meal on the menu. Seems like they frequently raise prices. But like I said, great place to get a cup of coffee and get some work done.

  • Joseph Malins

I like Flying Star, and I've been coming here for years. The food is pretty good, even if the prices are high for what you get. Desserts are pretty amazing, but again expect to pay for it. Everything is definitely tasty and the vegan and gluten free options are nice for eclectic tastes. I will definitely be back, if only because it's a local staple.

  • Edwin Jones

Staff was alert and attentive, and the presentation of baked goods was inviting...the food order was easy and quick, and tables were clean and had plenty of room for a relaxing and comfortable time. And of course, the food was served hot, and delicious as always. ;-)

They used to have the best eclairs but they have failed miserably. The cream was so gross we couldn't even finish. Poor customer service, two people behind the counter not even an acknowledgement of us waiting. Then the only person working was delivering food to tables, she finally finished and came to help. Guess we'll be finding a new place.

'Not sure what happened to my favorite eatery, The Flying Star Cafe. 'Ordered my favorite dish, The Southwestern Bennie, I was not served for 20 minutes and it was only luke warm when received. To top it off, the taste was so-so; not up to their usual standards.

Friendliest most accommodating staff. They made the Most delicious coffee! The Mexican chocolate mixed with caramel dulce - so good! The sandwiches are all good, and taste fresh, and the sweet potato fries are the best. The parking is limited and inconvenient, sometimes requiring you park across the street, but the service is great inside!

  • Lily Cole

This place is delicious! I got the Huevos Rancheros and the Chai Tea Latte. The photo has zero filters it is just that beautiful. Staff is super friendly! Chai latte was not watered down at all. Probably the best I’ve ever had honestly. Definitely recommend!

This place is kind of a small place that boasts a great turkey soup. I didn't get to try it out. I had a green Chile pork tortilla soup. The flavor was spot on. It was more of a veggie soup as I only found one piece of pork in the soup. Regardless, it was very good. I would say the pricing is a bit high, but the food is good. Try it out

  • Gary Bodman

Dropped in for a coffee and a pastry. They are following covid guidelines and the coffee refresh area is closed, you can still go to the counter for a refill or get a16 oz. to go cup. The cherry pie was awesome, as you'd expect. When they had time the counter help visited the tables to make sure everyone was doing ok, great service!

  • Karla G

Definitely on the expensive side but the food always tastes fresh and hits the spot. Whether it's something light in the summer or a hearty stew pot chicken in the colder months. They used to make the absolute BEST red velvet cake years ago but they don't seem to make it anymore (please bring it back) so I usually get the mud pie.

  • Marco Roybal

Placed an order for delivery and when I received the order it was missing the fries for the burger, syrup for the French toast and utensil. I guess they expect you to eat everything with your fingers or maybe they just don’t pay attention when they put the order together.

So excited to see they now have the Impossible Burger!!! Had it for dinner and it was awesome!!! I've tried it at other restaurants too, but they are doing something right here. I got a side of fries as well, which were very tasty. And you cannot beat their dessert. Everything was great! I'll definitely be back very soon!

I've been going to this location for years. They never disappoint. Their Ranch Breakfast is one of my favorites. The turkey sausage is actually really good. All their food is great! Their pastries are exceptional. The Giant Eclair is BIG but very light. They have quite a few tables setup for outdoor seating too.

The food was alright but the service wasn’t the best. I probably wouldn’t come here again know how it is. I’m happy I got the chance to come though, the building itself is very cool. The booth seats were quite uncomfortable, it felt like I was sitting on a box spring mattress covered in a thin layer of foam.

Nice place, decent food, good prices. The only reason I’m really writing this review is because a lot of the tables are broken and wobble so much you spill your coffee all over when you’re trying to eat. It’s really annoying and frustrating. I’m hoping this helps get that fixed.

Whenever I’m in ABQ I have to make a stop here! The ranch breakfast Wight he green chili turkey sausage is a must try. There gluten free pancakes are the best that I’ve had. We also shared the Athena salad, 10 out of 10 recommend. The fried feta balls are a great touch.
