"I love gateway I just don't like the stuff that happens there I'm not really had a problem but I know there's so many people we hear the horror stories do it and it one person ruins it for the rest cuz they're not all homeless as soon as I got home to do the same thing there's just people out there hurting people for no reason and that makes it bad in the gun shooting otherwise I love gateway my family was very always there and I shopped there quite often and I take the train I take the buses I get rides so I love that area there's so much to do when it comes to shopping that I need to do to go anywhere wherever I need to go catch some buses from one side down to the other including the airport so gateway is really really nice I just I know the stuff that's going around and they're trying to keep it up and they know it's hard with everything so I give them prayers to keep things going the best they can"
If there was a zero, that is what they would be rated. Traveled 3.5 hours to Cascade Station, love Red Robin, so glad to seen they were open until 10:00 p.m. place was relatively empty, but hostess (manager) advised 30 minute wait. When asked why, since so many empty tables, told only one waiter. Asked if cooks would be okay with that since they would be closed, she advised she is the manager and would deal with them. No problem, we thought. We traveled with 18 year old son, like everywhere else, were going to get a beer from the bar and drink it in waiting area with him. Manager told us we could not do that. I told her I used to work for Red Robin and always allowed guests to walk within the restaurant with adult beverages. She said we simply could not. As we waited, several other parties came in and were filling up the waiting area, too. -- with less than 30 minutes until closing. This woman did not even attempt to help waiter or others. It was almost as if she dissuaded people from staying. Several left, and we then followed on out. One person picking up a to-go order was forced.to wait an extra 10 minutes, while shakes melted and fries grew cold, for change, then had the nerve to ask for straws. It was obvious 2 drinks, but manager asked her ridiculously how many she needed, then callously threw them into the bag almost without looking. Patron was visibly upset. Disgraceful and disrespectful to let money walk out the door. This is not good customer relationship management. She needs to find another gig before she trashes their reputation and loses RR more money. Terrible "manage" on Thursday, 08/19/2021!!!! Applebee's was a truly wonderful experience, by the way. Friendly staff, immediate seating, and great food.
It's an interesting mix of business. There's the transit transfer hub for TriMeth; Kohls and Fred Meyer's babysitting a few other shops to keep it Strip Mall, a Portland Clinic, with a Winco and Marijuana shop for commerce support across the street. What is odd to me is the amount of parking spaces. Such a huge, wrap-around lot that I have never seen even half utilized on the busiest of shopping days. So, of course, with all the necessary services for basic life in one area, it's not surprising that it is a popular place to reside for those without houses. Tents, abandoned vehicles, and the like almost make a solid border around 2/3 of the ever empty lot. What would allocating the 2 furthest corners of that lot to these people do to benefit those people, the businesses and their customers, and the neighborhood in general? Imagine a couple outhouses with wash stations that ARE SERVICED, along with appropriate garbage dumpsters... it's beyond a nice thought for those residing in this area unhoused. It's necessary for the health safety of all of us! I would love to see people living in a designated area for that, instead of in front of the park across the street. There must be something special the Gateway Shopping Center keeps that huge amount of never used parking spaces so clean and maintained for that I don't see. The asphalt itself is better maintained than anywhere else nearby. But, for what purpose? Portland's Priorities after selling out to T.V. fantasm shining through.
Went to Fred Myers. Was disappointed because I was waiting for a cab and being harassed by the security guy. Although homeless people were walking out of the store and stealing plants, the security guy would rather harass a female by herself than 2 men stealing stuff right out in daylight. The security guy stood there keeping me in view until I pulled a can of ginger beer and opened it ( Which is non alcoholic ) and he immediately seen his opportunity to strike. He told me that open containers are not allowed on the property. I told him it was ginger beer and he said no open beers on the property. Instead of arguing with the fool, I decided to go to the end of the property to wait for my cab, scared I'd get in trouble for drinking my soda. Sorry Fred Myers, it was hot, I was thirsty and my cab was stuck in 4pm traffic. It's a red flag characteristic of an abuser when a man is too coward to confront two white male theives, and instead follow around a small female and wait for the moment he can wield his position and authority while oppressing a native American girl. I suppose his actions were a result of racial profiling because everyone knows that every Native American is an alcoholic. Don't worry, Natives are used to this. White men have done this to us since they claimed Christopher Columbus discovered America. If he discovered America, why were Native Americans already here when they arrived and chased us off? That's exactly what this experience felt like. I won't go back.
The stores that are in this area have staff that are very uptight and make shopping very uncomfortable. I understand there's a lot of thefts in the area and that there is a lot of mischievous things happening but to go to lengths to make people feel unwelcome, or like they themselves are a thief or are there to cause an issue is very unprofessional. They may meet and greet but they meet and greet with prejudice and don't accept people as is. They categorize everyone and go from there as to how to treat them while they are in the store handling their business. I'm really moved and disappointed at the amount of attention I received just for being a black man just in what makes me feel comfortable but does not put out there that I am some sort of hooligan or thief or addict but the staff and all these stories are quick to judge and treat me with a distasteful attitude. It's only okay because I like shopping at the stores that are there. Otherwise I would really hate this place.
I love gateway I just don't like the stuff that happens there I'm not really had a problem but I know there's so many people we hear the horror stories do it and it one person ruins it for the rest cuz they're not all homeless as soon as I got home to do the same thing there's just people out there hurting people for no reason and that makes it bad in the gun shooting otherwise I love gateway my family was very always there and I shopped there quite often and I take the train I take the buses I get rides so I love that area there's so much to do when it comes to shopping that I need to do to go anywhere wherever I need to go catch some buses from one side down to the other including the airport so gateway is really really nice I just I know the stuff that's going around and they're trying to keep it up and they know it's hard with everything so I give them prayers to keep things going the best they can
I love it because it’s like a one stop lot for the entire family- instead of having to spend tons of time driving place to place between errands - you don’t even have to get back in your car for most of them if you prefer the walk (next door/across the lot lol) seriously though: I never realized how much of the time I spent running errands was simply spent on the travel to or from the place the errands needed performed at…until I saw this shopping center and was like- wow: I can get three of my five errands done here- without having to ever get back in the car until I’m ready to go. I realize that’s a lot of words to basically say one positive thing but seriously- how do you rate a shopping center? Lol jk- happy shopping y’all
The staff at Fred Meyer are always helpful, always happy to direct you and always knowledgeable. There's a few staff members I'm on a first name basis with, and they always have a smile. Keeping in mind the location is in the Gateway area, which may be why security is a little tighter than your average store. The only complaint that I have is the fact the floor level screens with cameras that detect motion and chime when you move, all this does is make me leave the area. If I need to look over the shelves and decide on what craft item I need, I don't need a double chime sounding when I pick up an item to read the package or even purchase it. Other than that, good store
At the watch department inside the Fred Meyers Jewelers. Interesting that their watch specialists/ watch repair position is from an outsourced professional! He is only there on certain days so scheduling a time was tricky. I have to say that the repair was actually the removal of a couple of links in a watch band. It was quick and easy! The price was 10$ Wow! This is where I'm going for my simple watch needs, just call first to see when he is there so you don't make any wasted trips. Four paws up for the price, I just wish I had been informed of the onsite availability or somewhere post the schedule of the watch repair guy, it would have saved a few unnecessary trips.
The store itself is well stocked, things make sense as far as location and the staff are polite and often friendly;it depends what shoppers put out in the way of attitude.BUT:there is are reasons why there are security guards.Shoplifting is rife so many things, including pens, are in locked cases. And be watchful outside the store, particularly at night. There is a transit center just across the street and you never know who might be lurking in the parking lot and streets around the stores.I personally would not walk to the store or even take the bus to the store after 8 or 9 pm.
Love the product at jamba juice. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Prices keep rising and that is the only this is not a 5 star. Oh and since I realized this is for gateway and not just jamba juice there-they also have many other stores- some teriyaki place, starbucks, mucho gracias, key bank, carls jr., ross, fred meyers. Khols, and lots more. Besides fred meyers and Ross and jamba juice I don't really use the other stores here but they are here. Oh one last thing it is also next to a transit stop so public transportation makes it easy accessible.
I was at Freddy's looking for crepes but I didn't find any. This particular Fred Meyer has declined over the years. I can remember this store way back in the 80's. My mom loved Freddy's so we shopped here a lot. Since moving back to the PNW, I've noticed that certain parts of the stores are blocked off and must purchase certain items only in that blocked off area. It's ridiculous if you are purchasing items from different areas of the store. I'm just happy there's still a Starbucks store in this Freddy's.
If it were not for the homeless campers on every corner and wandering up from the Max station, this Fred Meyer would be number one on my list. I love the way it is set up! But the neighborhood has become so run down it detracts from the unique way this Fred Meyer is designed. Having lived in the direct neighborhood for many years and growing up off Glisan by Providence where we shopped at the Gateway Shopping Center for years, I believe this design is the best this store has ever had.
Depending on what store you are in for instance if you go to fred meyers soon as you walk in you are being watched and profiled automatically due to the high theft rate in that particular store/area. They make it so you have to walk in a secure area in the clothing and make up section. But hey in order for them to stay in business they had to do that. The workers are usually always friendly. I recommend this store just beware of the people around there is all.
The only downside to this particular location is that because they're a franchise, they lose money when they accept the coupons that Subway, as a corporation, puts out. Corporate Subway does not reimburse franchise Subway for the money lost for each coupon honored . So, this location does not accept most Subway coupons. Really, I get it. They just can't afford to. it's still a bummer from a consumer's point of view.
It was interesting to see their efforts to control inventory loss. Each of the departments would check you out rather than having you keep everything from all of the departments in Wal-Mart and only checking out once. A customer would check out of each department. Rather inventive to keep theft down. Not too much of a bother to do it that way, just a bit longer to get out of the store if you have a lot to purchase.
I have to say I was a bit put off from this shopping center as we came in from the backside which is a very depressed (dumpy) area. Lots of vacant buildings and homeless activity behind the store. As for the Kohl's itself, it had what I needed, I ordered online and they brought it out to the car. Fairly quick on off the freeway, so except for the area we had to drive through to get there it's a typical Kohls.
Seen many changes over the years! Fred Meyer biggest anchor and has everything you need for one stop shopping. Kohls is here. Carl's Jr is here. Great clips. Jamba juice is great! Wing stop is delicious but takes awhile and has gotten my order wrong 3 out of 6 times. Applebees is here. Office depot. Mucha Gracias is excellent! Some other stuff. Plenty of parking. A bit of crime element so be alert.
This place used to be so much different than it is now. I liked it a whole lot better before when both Fred Meyer's and Kohl's had multiple entry locations on their store and there wasn't such a huge presence of obvious uniformed security both in and out of the stores. It's almost to much, definitely all the security there is both neve racking and a bit intimidating and uncomfortable like.
It's a dump theft on a daily basis from Ross, security is not seen at all, prices at Kohls are too expensive. Example an umbrella a little one costs about $25-$35 a piece... shootings and other crimes happen more often, drunks and druggies are a constant problem. Most stores over there get robbed/shoplifted daily I say be careful when you arrive if you do any shopping over there
I went to the Fred Myers here and did not experience anything noteworthy. The Fred Meyers was clean and easy to get in and out of. There was disabled parking available. Security was active and present in and out of Fred Meyers. I did not experience anyone approaching me for money or cigarettes and my short visit there was very pleasant considering it was extremely hot that day.
Good selections of stores. Get a bite to eat, then go get a new updated smartphone. After that head to Fred Meyers and shop for groceries, home goods, garden supplies, or home improvement needs. This shopping center has it all!!! I especially like the fact it has one of the few Carl's Jr. In Portland. One of my personal favorite fast food burger joints.
This shopping center has improved dramatically over the years. Owners are trying to make it much nicer. It used to have half the stores be empty, but now it's full of variety. Only drawback is the amount of kids and teenagers running around, and hanging out side and chain smoking. Bus terminal is also a pretty Nice addition.
Ross was very... Unsavory. Stand in line to even get in during a pouring rain. Only needed to pick up a package from the locker and instead was forced to stand in the freezing rain with having a terminal illness. Won't be ever doing business around this place again. They care more about money then safety. No thanks ross
In the mid 90's I worked at Tower Records at Gateway and the shopping center was so much nicer back then up to about 5 years ago. Now with the homeless population in that area, it has really brought the center down in terms of clientele and the lack of businesses. It's a shame because it used to be a booming area.
I love going to this place. The outlet stores almost always have great deals on things, especially on shoes. Whenever one of my pairs dies, I come here to get a replacement pair. They also have a decent selection of other clothes and whatnot. Definitely worth coming here if you're in the market for new apparel.
Gateway is gross with all the garbage everywhere and homeless camps. Be aware and cautious of your surroundings its a dangerous area to be in. Trimet is a big part of the area being a problem, trimet should step up and provide security that actually makes a difference and provide safer area for gateway.
I liked the shops here, the spacious area which diminished that crowded feel. It's super easy to get there, convenient and has various shopping and lunch options. You can walk to the other stores, grab some lunch and jam right back onto the highway when your done. I will definitely go back here.
Has a lot of different stores to choose. Nice selections inside but a lot of the staff in places like Fred Meyers and Kohl's are extremely rude. They treat people like they're criminals whether they be or not. So if you decide to shop there do not be shocked when you are treated unkindly.
Lots of rift raft on a regular basis, the druggies hand around (not in) the station in droves, they usually hang out in front of Oregon Clinic. The security does a very good job. Also close to a shopping center, office Depot, Ross, Applebee's, Fred Myers, WinCo, Carl's Jr and more.
Make sure that you don't have anything visible in your car when parking in gateway shopping center. I have noticed a lot of car window glass in many different areas of this shopping center. There is lots of foot traffic from a large Maxx and bus transit center.
I get my hair cut at Great clips here. There's hardly ever a wait, and they offer online check-in. Mona does a fantastic job on my hair, even when I've done something dumb, like try to trim it myself, she can manage to fix it and it looks wonderful!
IM NOT SURE WHOM THEIR "SECURITY " IS (or if they go through a third party company) BUT TONIGHTS 'RENT A COP' WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE AND THIER BEHAVIOR WAS UNACCEPTABLE!! while my boyfriend and I were getting out of the car and about to
Well my husband went in bought a sandwich for himself. He bought 2 peaces of meat for his dog. But nothing for me. But he an dog where in very bad accident. So I went back in with the only 3 dollars cash I had ask what ever meat they could
Gateway Fred Myer's is not a bad place to shop. They get busy at times but that is expected at any store anywhere. Seems to have friendly staff. They do have security. One thing I greatly appreciate here though is even through the covid-19
One word... This place and most the pathetically remaining retail businesses in this "shopping center" (more so correctly should be referred to as the retail graveyard where old successful businesses that you USED to know and love) are
Employees are attentive & friendly. I do like subways subs. I will buy subs here again. Be kind to the employees working hard to serve their customers. A little patience goes a long way in the day of any person working to serve the public.
This place is a ghost of the place it used to be and they even use old Izzy pictures which are long since gone just like any resemblance of a place you can shop safely as guards and cops are everywhere and you can't even buy the products
It's alright, but the people in this area are kind of scary. There have problems with aggressive people who have used aggressive force, threatening, flashing weapons, drugs, shoplifting and stealing cars. Definitely lock your car and be
My wife and I shop there often. Generally have what we are shopping for, but I think for the most part there prices are about average for the area, sometimes good deals other times not so good. I like the store and there employees are
Keep cleaning bathroom because homeless people use restroom! Cashiers are not very friendly looks like crabby with face expressions! Poor job at the customer service there is lack of employees who are lazy or ignore people's respect!!
Full service freddy's is always busy but checkout is always fast. Quite a few fast food spots and big box retailers like khols. I enjoy the environment and have many family memories that include gateway neighborhoods and shopping!
Very convenient. U can go grocery shopping, get a hair cut, eat and buy new clothes all in the same parking lot. Plus there is even a dentist. Just make sure u are aware of the time you go because it gets very crowded and busy
Was kinda disappointed. My first Carl's Jr experience. I was like speed rushed to order. Didn't really get to view their selections. Disappointed to be honest. Was not impressed. For first impressions I would say epic FAIL X.
They try their best but the huge amount of homeless people in the immediate area make it seem unsafe. I havent had an issue as of yet but I feel like it's a matter of time. So sad, this used to be such a great neighborhood.
There veterans discount isn't fair, even if you have veteran on license, half the time employees except it, at other times they say you need active/retirement card or VA card, obviously they really don't care about veterans
Obviously you've heard of subway so your just hear to find out stuff specific to this location like employee temperament, and stuff. Okay fine, but this location is average all around, there's nothing to report here.
I love this area. Freddy's, Ross, kohls, Applebee's, WinCo, Starbucks, Jamba juice, muchos Gracias and more.. So convenient. The neighborhood has gotten pretty bad though. There's Alot of homelessness and theft.
It gets a lot of questionable people there due to the Max line. I was there to pick up a print order from Office Depot. Hopefully it will get better in the future, many businesses are closed.
It's fine, mostly i come here because it's close. The staff at Freddie's is mostly friendly. I hate that Kohl's constantly moves the amazon counter around. The Mexican place has killer food.
Go there fairly often lots of public transit good for those who don't have a vehicle. The only thing to whatch out for is panhandlers and vagrants. Best to go there while it's daylight.
Great staff. Sooooo funny how there is nothing in produce and absolutely no toilet paper, paper towels, napkins... People are hoarding like crazy! The staff is managing well though.
I visit every Tuesday, it's accessible by public transit and I can get all my grocery shopping for the week done visiting just two stores right across the street from one another
Crackheads are shutting this place down. That's why they closed the Starbucks. I only recommend going to the Muchas Gracias if you can make it through the gauntlet of addicts.
This place was once a 5 star place! Now it doesn't feel safe to leave your car. Windows boarded up. Homeless camps. Security guards. Trashy cars with no license plates. Sad...
My husband and I were there for shoes for him. He has a hard time walking and I was looking for a place to rent wheelchairs. There is not a place for that! We had to leave.
Plenty of parking. Might have to walk a little during peak times. Good Security presence. Excellent produce. Great variety of diverse foods. Friendly clerks. Feels safe.
Have sandwiches made on the spot how you like, how can u beat that. And what a huge discount with the by one footlong sub get a second sub of equal or less value free.
My friend got her purse stolen at gateway Fred Meyer in the parking lot in Broadway daylight by a drug addict got him on camera but doubt anything comes of it.
I'm into the Fred Meyers in the gateway shopping center customer service was able to help me which in turn made my anxiety and stress go down a whole lot
Tough crowd, but the area is slowly improving. Too many shoplifters and people leg locked on the blues,.Just be out of the area before 9pm and your good
No bathroom in the mall. If you have children you have to even walk outside across the parking lot to carls junior. They said it’s due to homeless.
It's a nice shopping center with lots of stores. They are nice and kept clean. It's right across from the max atop so there are lots of people.
It truly is a One Stop Shop! You got your fentanyl zombies in one area your meth zombies in the other what has happened to our beautiful city?
Freddy's, Kohl's, Office Max, ROSS, GameStop, Jamba Juice, Carl's Jr., Starbucks, Subway, a hair salon & more. Not a bad gig all 'round. …
I love the staff especially the manager. She always remembers me. Great sale too!! I have earned $500 in Kohl's cash because I spent so much!!
It's really always a new off putting experience here, I love the flock of seagulls that roam the parking lot. I wonder how they got there.
Great location for the most part the surrounding area is ok but could use a bit more policing bit overall I don't mind going over there
Just moved to East Portland, found Fred Meyers, they have everything I've needed so far. Will try subway and Applebee's soon.
Lot's of Mickey Mouse/Disney items at Kohl's & party supplies for yor Lego fan at the nearby Dollar Tree (122nd & Halsey).
While sometimes there is only one employee in the store they try their best to make sure everyone is taken care of
The spawn point for all crackheads in Portland. The most absolute vile place. If you enjoy life, do not go here.
Only 4 stars because it's cold af when it's windy I also don't dress for the weather very often lol …
Not bad place, lots of parking available. Some homeless people asking for handouts was the only negative
It's a bit sad. Every restroom is locked with codes and it's hard to find a person to get the code.
Clean and friendly place to go shopping. Armed security guards for our safety, plenty of parking.
The staff is reliably friendly, and helpful. They typically have what I'm looking for in stock.
It look dry and dusty but hey I gotta appreciate the store cus I have things I need it inside..
I don't enjoy shopping here it's dirty and people always bother you asking for something!
Extremely scary parking lot, drugs, homeless people approaching you even in the stores
It's Gateway...Shall say more. If you have mase or any defensive weapon.... carry it.
We got drinks at Mamba. Great customer service and had a short wait for our order
Very nice store with nice employees and great prices they also have great suff
Good parking and plenty of security. They still have a Target.
I am not sure about this place. I have never been to it.
Not bad of the all to place it is an go to everything
It's always easy shopping at gateway shopping center.
Don't know much because I don't shop there mostly
Always Scary. And I'm an armed, weapon expert.
Nice corner to grab a bite, shop a little...
Nice to get in and out at a convenient
One of my all-time favorite stores!!!
They have security nice big fredmyers
It's a nice shopping center I suppose
It’s kind of run down, but the staff
