I recently went to the local libraries in my area aiming to connect with those in need of counseling. I wanted to post a flyer in the community distribution spaces if it was available. Having gone to a few, there were spaces and my flyers were accepted by the branch managers and hung there. I was also informed of the available study rooms for use as well. I was sent to this branch in particular due to its location having study rooms. Upon arriving I asked if it was feasible to place/leave a flyer there for counseling services. I was asked if it was free and I said yes it is and it is stated on the flyer. The branch manager asked to see it and after reading it, she stated that she could not accept it and handed it back. I asked why and she stated, "you pray. We cannot solicit religious things.” A little confused by the statement I questioned again why when the other branch just accepted several of them and sent me to this location? After receiving a puzzled stare, she stated that she could look into it. Seeing the flyer for a recital and the live recital itself as I came into the library, I wanted to know how could other people from within the community use the library for their free function but a free counseling flyer could not be placed out. So I asked how could the performance take place and my flyer could not be accepted. I was told, "it's a recital." I stated that I didn't understand that and just wanted clarity. I was told, "separation of church and state." When I inquired about the study rooms I was given the steps on how to reserve them. I was also told that I could only use them for "studying" and not for anything pertaining to my religious purpose. Still pending a response from the county Director, I find this very selective. Based on this experience I believe that the branch managers choose at their discretion what they want at their locations. If this is or is not protocol, the branches need to be on the same page. Other Dallas branches advised me the study rooms can be used for counseling in the event I needed to meet in person vs online. I have even used the study rooms for the same in Collin county without any issues. I believe that if the libraries are to serve the community and the community can use the libraries to serve each other, we should all be given the fair opportunity to do so regardless of our faith. I truly hope this changes because it is not fair and it is a true hindrance to the needed help within our community. This library is nice and I would love to use it but the atmosphere is honestly questionable after this experience. Thanks for the effort given though. ***Update*** Having received a returned call, but no response after reaching back out via phone or email, I can only assume that after them being informed of the specifics this is not something of an issue to Dallas County. Apparently, discrimination against people of faith is just what it is for this library (and/or county). Continue to pray for our leaders and those within our communities.

The Grauwyler Park Branch Library is in northeast Dallas, just south of Love Field Airport. DART Green Line is less than a mile away and buses 544 and 029 can bring you even closer. The library is quite appealing from the exterior. Low lying, with a gracefully curved facade, alternating off white stone on the north side and dark tinted glass on the south. There is a somewhat unusual area to the side with plenty of low seating. I suspect it was designed for kids. The shaded trees of Grauwyler Park in the background merge well with the library and bestow a feeling of peace. Walking inside is quite an experience: 18’ gently sloping ceiling covered with oak planks; glass and light everywhere. Inside the main room the glass and wood theme continues with restful green squared carpet highlighting the wood and unusually (for a library) colorful furniture. The Children’s section is a riot of color with the furniture, banner, wall decorations and the books themselves all clamoring for attention. The kids have so many books that they’ve outgrown the sectioned off kid’s area and fill a large bookcase just outside. The Youth / Young Adult section is next door. Adding up all the non-adult books and other materials I saw a good 1/3 was for children. A great investment, I’d say. However, this is a fairly small library and all of that comes with a price. The adult fiction and nonfiction selection is smaller than average. CDs, DVDs and Audiobooks are in good supply. There are only 12 computers available for internet access. The network was down the day I visited so I’m not sure if there’s normally a wait. Between the park, the beautiful architecture and the unusual furniture I’d say this neighborhood library is worth a visit even if you live in another part of town. Love it!

The library staff are very rude to new-coming guests. Some colleagues as well as myself came to visit and read some books at this local library to unwind for some time. While picking a new place to study, one of the staff members directly confronted us in a way that made us feel very uncomfortable and unwanted for “being in the wrong section”. In the process of relocating, a man in glasses kept harassing another guest unrelated to us, kept telling him where to sit and just straight up bothering him. Seeing this behavior made me beyond disappointed as I expected libraries to be places of sanctuary where individuals can choose to relax whilst tending to their work and studies. I would highly urge the City of Dallas to review their choice of workers and codes of conduct within this establishment. Furthermore I do not recommend going here for any reasons whatsoever since my first and last experience was extremely repulsive.

A nice small library, surprisingly quiet for being near an airport in the middle of Dallas. Staff was kind and professional. Good clean facilities. I'm hesitant to take a star off, but for two little details. One: all adult fiction was lumped together, even though the sub-types were labeled. It was a little jarring to just browse down a shelf bouncing between murder mysteries, old west, 'bodice-rippers', terror, sci-fi, etc... Two: the evening sun was glaring through large west-facing windows, showing how dirty they were, and had no curtains or blinds to block the light and heat. Would still generally recommend this location though.

I was visiting Dallas for a quick meeting and my trip had been kind of disaster (flat tire, plane delay) and I really needed a print out of my parking pass. This library was close to the airport so I stopped by after exchanging my broken rental car. Everyone was friendly and helpful, they got me right on a computer and I was on my way in ten minutes. The place looked nice and well maintained. It wasn't huge but it was a nice neighborhood size branch. As a side note they may want to work on their branding because when I asked the guys at Alamo rent a car about local libraries nobody had heard of the place and it's only a mile away.

I was trying to mind my business and do some important work while relaxing at this establishment, but the workers kept harassing me over small details as they almost kicked me out for sitting in the “wrong section” even though there was no one else in the library. To think that they made a big fuss over where I was located made me feel very unwelcome. I later saw more people getting harassed over harmless things like this. Overall I felt unwelcome and I would not recommend going here, I am ashamed to see this establishment conduct itself like this.

That Library very poor customer service they was rude it was cold in the movie room it felt like 50° weather and my clients was cold I asked if they can warm it up a little bit in there I was told they couldn't and the lady with the ponytail came and said that we had to leave and it was about 11:30 about lunch time and she stated you can stay to after you eat your lunch so we went into the library until it was time for our clients to be picked up by Dart. They moved us out to decorate the movie room

White Guy up at the front desks with brown hair & the glasses is loud and obnoxious. Said you can’t sleep in the library. I should’ve had him show me where it says that in library policy. I could be on my break or anything! Rudely obnoxiously and loudly came over and disrupted me knocking on my table loudly. Is this a college class room or a library?? Mind you a guy was sleep and snoring behind me for a while and my guy acted like he was blind and deaf then. Won’t be recommended or returning.

The Mission Bay Branch is one location where you can get your library fix. This branch is a must visit, if you haven't been here yet. This new library has been here for only a couple years and it features a good selection of books and media, computers, reading areas, and study rooms.

My family and I have been attending this library for about 9 years. It is an amazing place! You can go for a walk to the park and then go here and enjoy the huge variety of books you can find. This is a paradise for many of us.
