"East Dallas would lose so much vitality without this gem"
Located in the historic neighborhood of Lakewood, famous for its theatre. The library grounds are a sort of mini park, with a couple of abstract sculptures by the late John Brough Miller. Two long, low benches sit just in front of the recessed entryway. The library exudes a peaceful vibe from the outside and this increases inside. The front doors are solid wood, not glass. Stepping inside you find a small vestibule with a warm, cozy feel accentuated by low ceilings and dim lighting. Books: the library is relatively light in Adult Fiction but makes up for it, quantity-wise, with a large Nonfiction selection. The cheerful, colorful Children's section attracted my eye with not only books galore stuffed into the shelves but two loveseats for lounging and reading. Almost makes me wish I had a youngin to play with there. Almost. All the other offerings - Young Adult, Teen, Spanish-language, CDs, DVDs and computers - are here but the library's great appeal, for me, is the comfortable ambience. The comfy chairs help, too.
At the checkout counter I've seen three different young ladies working on different days. Only one out of the three is polite, courteous and helpful when checking out. The other two insist I go to the self checkout. Might I suggest to the supervisor that the staff wear name tags. I'd like to thank the helpful young lady by name but she wasn't wearing a name tag. That friendly young lady was working there today. 08/16/16, Tuesday, 330pm. Other than that the library is quiet, convenient and my books that are on request arrive quicker than at other libraries. Name tags please!! I agree with the other reviewer their internet service is very slow compared to other libraries. You won't be able to sit outside to get a connection. I tried, didn't work.
Staff is always friendly and helpful, decent selection of books, dvd's and Blu-ray, and if they don't have what you're looking for, they can get it for you from another branch. Automatic renewals are amazing, because I'm easily distracted (squirrel!) and forget about the awesome book I was reading the day, week, month before, and yet, haven't had a single late fee!
My toddlers and I enjoy a free visit to our branch library 3-4 times a month. They love playing with the available blocks, puzzles, and old school computer. We borrow loads of DVDs and books and have a lovely rapport with the friendly warm staff. They also have scheduled programming during the day for babies and right after school for older kids.
East Dallas would lose so much vitality without this gem. It's doors are open to everyone, the shelves are stocked with treasures, and the staff jumps at the opportunity to help. Over the years it has grown & changed in wonderful ways while retaining that neighborhood feel. As long as we love it, it'll love us back. ♡
Really awesome library if you don’t mind noise. Lots of dvds and non fiction books. Free Wi-Fi and they even have a puzzle library too. Only issue is how loud it is, unless you have noise cancelling headphones it’s hard to focus, I have to deduct stars for that since that’s kind of the whole point of a library.
Very cold in the building. Employees murmur. Computers available in 25 min. increments. What is that art outside? It looks like horse manure. Condi Rice snitches on me through the librarians and laser assaults begin. Won't let you use their plugs to recharge your cellphone. Accessible by buses 76 and 19.
Very friendly and helpful staff . I love it because thus library still has the standard of quiet in the library. Some libraries these days allow people to talk loud and children run free making noise with no Respect for others who Require and need Quiet In The LIBRARY! Thank you Lakewood!
Friendly, helpful staff and nice selection of books and other media. I go here at least once a week to check out items, including reserves and to use their computers. They have very safe, no touch checkout procedures, so no one touches your stuff except you.
Average in comparison to the options available at the DeSoto Public Library. All City of Dallas libraries need to add PDF conversion software (Adobe), color printing, later hours (8 p.m. closing) and debit/credit payment options...just to list a few things.
This library branch is wonderful! I always place requests online and pick them up here. It's very easy and efficient. The employees have been helpful with any questions I have. Would highly recommend the Dallas Public library to anyone in the area!
Nice, small library. Easy to order and pick up materials. I’ve seen the staff be remarkably patient with difficult or strange patrons. I am always able to find a parking space, and there are usually some good used books for sale at very low prices.
First visit to this library was nice but it was very crowded. Not sure if there was an event here but every table, chair and couch was occupied. Library appeared clean and staff was friendly. Good qualities for a library. Would visit again.
It was smelly and small. I thought since it was away from downtown I wouldn't run into homeless people, but they had a few in there, and one stunk up the ladies room. I usually like to read the magazines, but they were all old and wrinkly.
I love this library. It's practically our second home. The staff is wonderful and helpful. This library is kid friendly, and hosts many fun events for adults and/or the family. There's always a nice selection of books for sale as well.
One of my favorite parts of the neighborhood. A friendly, welcoming place that my toddler son and I visit often for the toys and the books. Requests for books are filled quickly and I can borrow just about any genre I want from there.
Lakewood’s lucky to how our own library with such hard-working librarians. If you get a chance, read ‘The Library’, a well-written book about the devastating fire in Los Angeles Central Library in 1986.
Each time the children are very loud and it's distracting, my suggestions are that the city of Dallas Texas but close off the children section only for them. Just saying it would be a lot quieter.
I love reading in this place. It has a wide range of resources and you can find anything you like. The place is serene and perfect for reading your favourite novel.
The branch itself is small compared to other. Customer service is great, very busy for library 2go. You have to call to make an appointment for pick up requests.
One of the best libraries in Dallas metroplex. My paw paw spent a great deal of time there because they made him feel very comfortable. Rod Crosser his grandson
It's a great place to be. There is a very good selection of materials and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. It's as great as ever. Jean-Paul and Pamela
The librarians are very helpful and it is very clean. I like that you can order books all over the Dallas library system and they will bring them there.
The Dallas Public Library system ROCKS. The Lakewood branch while small is clean, safe, beautifully located and staffed with friendly, helpful people.
Very good neighborhood library. Like most libraries today it can get a bit noisy but that’s because it is being used by students and families
Great little library with nice selection of graphic novels and friendly environment for children. Could use some updating cosmetically.
It a great place to relax and have great activities to learn about the world and a great place to spend on the weekend and the summer
Everyone is so friendly & they treat the customer like an old friend. The personal know policy and cheerfully work thru mail issues.
Just watched this library on you tube i notice monday is staff training day, well they ought to be trained on filming in public
It's a nice library. Sometimes the A/C is too cold! and it'll be great if it has private study rooms …
I’ve ordered and picked up books for years…it was such a welcome service during the pandemic, especially.
Super friendly and helpful staff - grateful for a beautiful place to get some work done as a traveler!
This library had the worst internet service ever. It takes long to get a site to pull up.
This is my favorite place to sit with a book and listen to people talk really loudly.
I enjoy this library. I have been a patron of this Branch for more than 8 years.
My favorite place to work and study - no purchase required! Free printing.
it's a good library I been there since I was a kid and I still go
Peaceful, great selections, and super helpful and patient staff.
Hermosos recuerdos, de esta gran librería, excelente servicio
Very small but cozy, welcoming library. Good for families.
Peaceful, easy to concentrate and comfortable enough.

Staff here lies to law enforcement. Be very careful.
