My wife and I had thought about making our end of life arrangements for years, but really didn't know where to start. During the most recent Christmas holidays, we visited family and friends, both alive and deceased. Those visits were comforting. It made us think more about those family members we will one day leave behind and where they might visit my wife and I. Having some free time over the holidays, we decide to gather some information and get familiar with what memorial parks were available in our community. We both had always noticed Dignity Memorial's Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida as a beautiful and pastoral memorial park that always seemed to be well maintained. We were surprised when we each realized the other had set their sites on Oaklawn and we both seemed to know what we wanted in terms of final arrangements. Upon our initial visit to Oaklawn, my wife and I were warmly received by Dignity Memorial staff member Ken Miller. Mr. Miller offered us a tour of the grounds and asked a few questions about our vision for our final arrangements. Having intently listened to our desires and expectations, Ken first focused on areas of the cemetery that were most closely aligned with our vision and then expanded on that vision with other possible alternatives we were not aware of considering. Between our original vision and the offerings Oaklawn had available, my wife and I realized we had been presented with everything we had hoped for in our final resting place. All because Mr. Miller had taken the time to listen to what we wanted. What was conceived as as a fact finding effort became a life event for my wife and I that we are so happy with. Ken worked with us to select the perfect site for us, arrange for a memorial monument that met both our desires and was willing to negotiate with us on cost and payment option that met our needs and exceeded our expectations. What peace of mind we now have that these lasting decisions are made and not left to our surviving family to bear. Thank you Mr. Miller

This past weekend our family had services for our father, Bob Jones, in the Lodge at Hardage Giddens Oaklawn Chapel in Jacksonville. Patrick and his team put together a Life Story presentation for the reception, which included personal family items, pictures and memorabilia from Dad's life, from childhood through the US Marine Corps, family, children and grandchildren. It was something that everyone enjoyed, and started us all sharing stories of him and his life. I was really worried about all the stories I heard when it comes to funeral homes - I am happy the say that Hardage Giddens is the polar opposite of what I was expecting. Camille and Patrick made my father's funeral as easy as possible. Not only did they guide my sisters and I through the process, but they actually saved us money by proposing alternate options. They took their time, were respectful and did all the heavy lifting during the whole process. I really couldn't imagine it going any better than it did, supporting us in every way possible during this difficult time. Patrick went above and beyond with care and grace. Thank you Patrick, you made my father's funeral a beautiful event.

Ivy and Gary went above and beyond with everything concerning my mother’s graveside service and Celebration of Life reception. They went beyond my expectations! Gary sent me pictures once Mom’s name/date scroll was installed on the marker. (My dad was already buried there and she had a plot next to him) He told me about the yearly flower plan. His demeanor was so kind and his communication was solid. Ivy was responsible for the reception and everything was perfect! The pastor Ivy booked was awesome! The event staff that decorated the Legacy Lodge was amazing… The attention to detail of my mother’s personalization display was impeccable! It was beautiful! All the things she loved was in their display. I also brought a bunch of personal items and they made a separate display of that which was beautiful as well. I was beyond pleased. And the food display was lovely and everything tasted great! Bottom line, the staff at Oaklawn cemetery were exceptional—they went above and beyond. They helped to make a very emotional day a beautiful one.

Attended a celebration of life a week ago Sunday for someone that I've known a few years and who was well known and loved by so many. The function was held in what I believe was called The Lodge - what a nice venue! Aaron who works at this location was also a friend of the person whose life we were celebrating. Aaron did such a fantastic job being the one who I guess was the one in charge or lead person. He remained completely composed and very strong through the entire time while speaking to those in attendance and inviting others to come up and share their memories. Throughout the time that I was there, he graciously made his way through the crowd speaking and interacting with those of us that were there as well as keeping a keen eye on how things were going at the bar that was set up as well as the spread on the food table. I know our friend was looking down on her friends with a big smile seeing how well everything was organized and flowing!

Many years prior to his death, our father prearranged and prepaid his funeral services with Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel & Cemetary. The notes from this meeting were given to our family and we were able to plan a burial and celebration of life that truly honored the wonderful man he was. The staff persons at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn (Camille and Ivy) were professional and caring and truly helped our family every step of the way. Dad's obituary page on the Hardage-Giddens website was very well done and included a beautiful video. Family and friends commented on how much they enjoyed watching it. A few weeks after the service, I received a lovely book with our Dad's video photographs and his obituary. I will treasure it.

The team that I had was loving compassionate and caring. From the first time I walked into Oaklawn Cemetery to find a place for my wife and I.Thomas and Ken we're very helpful and respectful. Unfortunately my wife had passed soon after and Danny and Robin helped me through the process for the funeral and wake. They're were very compassionate and held my hand to make this experience the best It could be under these circumstances. Cassie and Ray were there during the wake and Committal Service and did an exceptional job. A special thanks to Thomas and Ken for making sure everything went according to our family's wishes from the day I showed up to the day I Lay My loved one to rest.

We worked mostly with Camille at Hardage-Giddens who offered such patience and clear guidance throughout the entire process of determining the arrangements that best reflected our mom's possible wishes and what made most sense for our family. Camille was extremely professional, available, and compassionate about our family's needs during a difficult time. Danny was also another source of support and help. We made cremation arrangements for mom before she passed. It was incredibly comforting to know that Camille and everyone at Hardage-Giddens had our back and we felt confident with their services. Well, it was time for us to do our funeral arrangements and our experience was amazing with Kenneth Miller. We purchase our stone and about 2-3 years ago and our stone wasn’t right at first but when we met Ken, he made it right. He made sure we got everything corrected and kept in touch with us and when it was time to do funeral stuff, he came threw. Especially with the basket of snacks I asked for after the bowl of mint life savers that I ate lol. So if you are or wanting to make plans for funeral ask for Kenneth Miller, but I will say as family owned business everyone treated us like family. So five stars from us!!!!! Went with a friend to pre arrange for terminally ill spouse. Nice people and facilities but very expensive. Fortunately, I convinced my friend she needed to check out other facilities since she planned a service at her church. Were able to purchase the same Batesville casket for $1,500 less, the basic charge at Hardage was slightly over $3,000, place we chose was $1,525 for the basic services, embalming was half the price and that included the cosmetics and dressing. Pick up charge from hospice was less as was use of the hearse. I know people don't think about going funeral shopping but it is a good idea. Dignity funeral homes charge the most.

Its never easy to loose a family member, but our experience with Oaklawn Cemetery was very positive. Beautifully kept and peaceful place...Loved working with Ms. Ott. Very organized, thorough, and compassionate .She remembered our lost loved one and their agreement from years ago. Her honesty is very rare in today`s society. Ms. Ott guided us through this difficult time, honored our busy schedules and responded quickly when we had questions. Safe to say, she made our experience a lot easier. Everybody in Oaklawn was kind, understanding and respectful. Highly recommended!

Dignity Memorial (Hardage and Giddens) funeral services were outstanding when my father recently passed away. Holly Nieves, who was our coordinator, was very compassionate and concerned with ensuring that EVERYTHING was taken care of for the visitation and funeral arrangements. We met with her initially to go over all of my father’s wishes, and then I met with her afterwards to finalize a few details. I could not have asked for anything more during this difficult time. We had been working with Scott to help preplan my father's funeral. We were halfway through the process when my father passed. Scott, Danny, Ray, and Tom were so genuinely kind to our family through this difficult time. They were a steady source of support and compassion during the planning, day of events, and afterwards. During the past 20 years, I’ve worked with the Hardage Giddens family in a professional and personal capacity. I can’t explain how professional, caring and committed they are to the families of the loved ones that have passed . They take their time explaining the process to the family members and when I tell you they are there 24/7, they are. I’ve seen it . When a loved one is going through their worst moment in their life, all they need is to be shown a little grace . They do and I’m proud to say they have become dear friends .

The Funeral Directors of Oaklawn Chapel, Ivy Mackay, Carl Rasmussen and Patrick Hopkins are very professional and caring toward the families we serve and a pleasure to work with. I also want to extend a special thank you to our General Manager, Tom Harris for his leadership and to our Office Manager, Theresa Behnam for all she does to help keep the office running smoothly. Mary Jane Moss is also appreciated for all her assistance in the office, as she is always willing to help co-workers and families, whenever needed.

When we called Scott a year ago to plan ahead for mom's resting place next to her family, (who have been buried there at Oaklawn for about 70 years), he was very accommodating. When it was time to hold the funeral, everything ran extremely smoothly. The ceremony inside, the committal outside and then the reception were all well organized and everyone was very professional! Thank you to Danny, Ray, Bobby, Mackenzie, Cassie and Ella who all worked to make mom's memorial a special time for our family.

My father died April 11, 2010 you picked him up from the hospital, you didnt embalm him you washed him and prepared his body . We didnt get to view his body . His funeral was outside under a gazebo. We weren't even allowed by his graveside while he was being placed by my mother we had to watch from the car. I understand it was because of the virus . But what I do t understand is how you think this was worth 13,000.00 when he had his plot already. I am sorry but to me this is price gouging. .

I kept hearing funerals are expensive. I did not feel pressure in any way to buy items we didn't need at Oaklawn and the staff was very kind and professional. Most of the cost for items purchased seemed reasonable to me. With that said, even if you wanted to outsource some of the funeral costs to another vendor, the Professional Service fee of $4,000+ is unavoidable, not just at OakLawn but all funeral services companies. There is no justification for the height of those costs.

During the service, a Hardage-Giddens attendant sat at the back of the room and every time a new speaker went to the podium or a musical arrangement was scheduled, an attendant stood up and appeared to be adjusting an audio-video control panel mounted on the wall. At one point, another attendant came in, they had a conference and switched places. Felt this was very rude, disrespectful and distracting. If the only one who reads this is management, good. Please fix this.

The entire staff was friendly and polite. As a funeral director myself, I can be very critical at times. I can honestly say that I would trust them with my family member because I trusted them with my father and I was not disappointed. I was very pleased and satisfied. Kenneth was simply amazing!! He was kind, patient, compassionate and professional. Ivy and her staff, Nick & Ray were available to answer ever question and provided us with care during a difficult, yet loving time. Losing a loved one is never east, but losing a child is not the normal chronological order of life, but for the 20 years since our daughter Lauren’s passing (June 1, 2002), Oaklawn has given us peace and comfort…I feel at home here!!

This is the 3rd time we have had services here for a family member and everything went smoothly and professionally. Camille and Danny were great and also want to especially note that Cassie High really stood out to us this time. My brother’s funeral was a sad occasion made much easier with the help of Daniel Geoghagan. He arranged everything so very well. He even made sure that umbrellas were available on that chilly, rainy day. The military honors were done very respectfully. I chose a floral arrangement, but Daniel went by the photo I sent him and had them done locally and they were beautiful. Everything went smoothly and my brother was given a beautiful send off.

My family and I are very pleased with their services, especially with Phyllis and Danny. They provided the right guidance with patience and empathy. We had many questions and they took the time to answer everyone of them. We never felt rushed or pressured. All of the services we chose were well executed and occurred timely without issue. This was my first experience working with Oaklawn staff. The experience was excellent. We had some special requests and all were met with great compassion and excellent service. The counselors helped me understand what my parents had arranged and how to best meet their wishes and aided the the transfer and advice of prepaid plans from another state. I highly recommend them.I plan to prearrange my services here also.

This is one of Florida’s most beautiful cemetery’s and was founded in 1927. It is open from 7:30am to 5:30pm daily. Come visit and see where some of Jacksonville’s most prominent citizens chose as their final resting place. There is a beautiful funeral home located on the property as well as event center. They just added San Marco Estates which is a new burial area inside the existing Cemetery on beautiful land.

Our experience dealing with Oaklawn cemetery and the pre-funeral arrangements was made easy because of Kenneth Miller, our Oaklawn representative. For such a seemingly sensitive issue, Ken Miller was as professional, empathetic and knowledgeable as we could have hoped for under our circumstances. For these and other reasons, Oaklawn is our first and most highly recommended choice in the Dignity organization.

We held my son's viewing and funeral there and Camille, Carl and many other staff members were very professional, supportive and helped us through a very sad time for our family. The service was great and the chapel was beautiful! I have attended two services here for friends, and i have to say that out of all the funeral homes and cemeteries in Jacksonville, this one is by far the most beautiful and peaceful one i have ever been to! Easy to work with Andy Cohen. He gave options and all he wanted for our answer was a yes or no. When we said "yes" we discussed that option more. There was no pressure when we said no. He understood our situation. After the initial visit, we had more questions which he gladly answered. He offered to come to our home if that would be easier for us.

Oaklawn is a gorgeous, quiet community. Staff are very professional . Am very proud to provide a final resting place for my parents that we will always enjoy on visitation.. The carillon is a plus, and maintenance to the grounds are outstanding. The fact that this will go on to perpetuity is a plus.
