15 - 20 years ago, Holt Renfrew had great customer service, but even though the selection of brand were great, the selection of items they would bring in were boring. Now, the customer service is lacking, but the items are more much more interesting. Where is the customer service lacking? Customer service in this store is very much based on how much money they think you will spend. In order to get anyone to talk you, you have to go there dressed to the nines and in all your best accessories and with a hand full of shopping bags from other luxury stores. I wish I could swing by this store on my way back from yoga with no makeup on to pick up an item I had them order in with out getting side eye and struggling to get a clerk to talk to me. This is the kind of store where you need to befriend a staff member and then only shop with them. I am sorry, but I don't feel like I should have to put this much effort into getting decent customer service. There have been times during a busy season, like Christmas, where I have come to Holts specifically caring empty Chanel, Brunello Cucinelli, and Versace shopping bags so I could get good and efficient service. Again, I don't feel like I should have to flaunt wealthy or trick the store into providing me with good service. The selection of items are fine. They are finally bringing in more and more interesting pieces, and everything is not so beige/neutral and boring as it was 15 years ago. The store its self is beautiful and I do like the layout and location. Holts please make measures to change up your customer service. You could be a fantastic store beat out your competition like The Bay and Nordstrom and other luxury stores so easily. Holts is the kind of store that could very easily get strong customer loyalty. There is a reason I have not completely stoped shopping here after 25 years of being a customer. That being said, I am tried of having a bad shopping experiences here and have been shopping here less and less. Just because Nordstroms and The Bay have obvious improvements they need to to make, does not mean Holts does not need improve. Be better. I know you can and I do root for this store. I really hope Holts finds their way.

Alright so this review is solely about the men's section. Ever since the big renovation a few years ago I've noticed that the sales staff at the men's section were a bit "inattentive". You rarely got asked if you needed help and often even if you wanted to buy something, you'd have to actually go out of your way to look for someone. This is a stark difference from perhaps 7-8 years ago where a smaller staffed men's section had superb and friendly service. So this friday, same scenario: I wanted to take a look at a wallet and no sales person was around. I was joking with my wife over text message about how this seems to be the norm at Holt now when I decided to run a little experiment. I told her that I'm just going to stand there and see how long it takes a sales person to notice. Conclusion: about seven and a half minutes. I actually had two sales people walk in front of me and have a full blown conversation about how their week went and what they were going to do for Christmas and not even glance at me. Was very amusing to say the least. So why 3 star review? Because a nice sales lady did finally notice and walked over and asked if I needed help. She was very apologetic about the wait and was very observant. Service was impeccable and she is the only reason I'm not extremely pissed right now. So in conclusion: Holt has some awesome sales staff, if you actually manage to meet one in person.

I bought a pair of Sergio Rossi shoes last summer for a retail price of $1000 + tax. As these were a specialty shoe I wore them to events and occasionally at the office. Last week, while crossing the street, the heel completely snapped off. As it was not a clean break a shoe repairman was unable to repair the shoe. I took the shoes, along with the original box and price tag on the box back to Holt Renfrew where they informed me the shoes had to be sent back to the designer for evaluation. I received a phone call last week from the salesperson at Holt Renfrew advising that the designer and Holt Renfrew were unable to assist in any way. She also advised that the shoes could not be repaired and asked if I wanted them back. Why would I want them back if they can't be repaired? I advised her that I was a long term repeat customer at the store and I was surprised they were unwilling to assist in any way...especially considering the price of the shoe and the apparent poor quality. Again I was informed there was nothing they would do for me. I asked for a manager to speak to me and as of last Friday, September 20th, I have yet to hear from anyone. I am so disappointed with the lack of customer service from such a reputable store. I will not be purchasing product from this store in the future and I have informed my friends and colleagues about the way this matter has been handled.

I had been looking into buying a particular handbag and wanted to buy it through Holt Renfrew to use up store credit I have for the store. After months of seeing this same bag ( same size, leather and color) for $100 + less expensive at every other retailer, and knowing they do not price match, I reached out to their customer care department to ask why, thinking there must be something different about the one they carry that I just don't know. Unfortunately that is not the case. The answer I was given was that it may be because of demand, or to offset products that they sell for less then other retailers to create a balance. While I am now too put off to shop there anymore, I highly recommend everyone check the price at other retailers online quickly before they buy anything from the store so you don't end up paying 20% above suggested retail prices. Of course not everything they carry is marked up like this, but I would hate for someone else to be unlucky like me and fall in love with a product they chose to overprice.

It’s a hit or miss for me. Pretty wide selection of luxury goods, not a lot of new collections in stock. Hoping they would have more Loewe or Mackage products in store to see in person. My problem was at the Louis Vuitton store. We shop pretty often at the one by Fairmont but was told this particular scarf we wanted to buy as a gift was in stock at Holt. Unfortunately I felt very judged by one of the employees right when I entered the store. She scanned me from head to toe and immediately checked what bag I was wearing lol and I was on the way to Yoga so I wasn’t really carrying anything. I wanted to ask a question but she went off to attend to someone else. It’s a novice move to make at a high end store really especially when she looked like she was just out of high school. We ended up ordering straight from LV site. 3 stars given as the online shopping was great. Delivered on the expected delivery date , just in time for a birthday gift

30 year HR shopper in Toronto and big fan of the store. Shopped in the Vancouver Pacific Centre store. Purchased fragrances and candles. Because Jo Malone candles are hard to find in Victoria, the sales lady asked us to sign up with our email and promised us free shipping with a purchase of $75 when we needed another. Just called and got the run around. It’s always been $100, the manager said (after a long convo with a sales guy). They declined, even after we described the lady, etc, etc. It’s not the money. But I’m fed up with corporations dropping the ball and not supporting customers. For this silly little $5 charge, they’ve lost two lifetime HR shoppers. Pretty pathetic way of doing business. I was going to write a review after the original visit, where we saw two HR sales girls smoking on the sidewalk and spitting regularly over a ten minute period. I know, cultural, blah blah, but it disgusted me nonetheless.

I wish that I could give this shop a better review because for the most part the sales associates are nice and the store is clean. I do have some annoyances to do with 2 of my shopping experiences though. My first purchase here was a Prada nylon 2000 re-edition bag. At the time they didn't have any boxes and offered to ship one to me when they came back...never got my box. Another time I was looking at a dress in the skims department that didn't have my size in stock so I put my number down...they can in stock but I never got a call and just happened to check on the site. And with that same dress I have not been getting hemmed. It has been 3 weeks since I bought it and I was asking the sales associates about when it would be ready for pick up...no reply. I don't live near the store so I am not able to just stop by and ask someone about this in person.

Good selection of high end designer clothes and accessories. I find it interesting the customers dress in their priciest clothes like they're trying to qualify themselves to be worthy of shopping there or maybe they're trying to impress the other customers? This one guy had a diamond stud in his ear, obviously Gucci shoes because they are stamped all over the side of it, with some designer sweater I kinda recognized because it's so simple yet like $800 or more lol (and totes not worth $80) and he's carrying an hermes and dior bag because he did some light shopping lol! He's Madonna's original material girl, living in a material world. Anyways, if material goods are your thing, this store has it.

The staff are extremely degrading and disrespectful, told my girlfriend “honey that’s not going to fit you” at the checkout for a clothing piece that she had just tried on and fit perfectly fine, after refusing to help her with her sizing. there is no reason to be body shaming or even judging an individual the way these two girls in the skims department did. Further my girlfriend isn’t even big, like she is quiet a small person and they proceeded to tell her that the items she picked out for herself was to small. She already owns 5 different sets of skims products and didn’t need this kind of disrespectful, and disgusting judgment from the staff, be better…

I like how their staff would write a personal note/email to follow up with your purchase. My experience at the shoe and designer boutiques was always great but the make up/skin care counter was not so much. A lady from Bobbie brown counter was super helpful when the sales at Estée Lauder was blind to see me lol not sure what she was snobby about. Worst experience would be at Chanel, everyone there looks so stuck-up and full of attitude. They will never greet you or even smile at you. I didn’t know why until I read some article about the manager there being a racist. Oh well, you can always go to Nordstrom :)

Suspicious! so I went to sample MFK Baccarat Rouge 540 because I had smelled it in past not too long ago & it smelled heavenly so I wanted to smell it again before buying it this time & I went to the store and asked the associate and she sprayed on my hand & it smelled really off, like it did not smell anything like BR540 and when I pointed that out, associate was just like Oh ok’ good to know ..like it was so suspicious of them because they acted weird about it & I for sure was sure Br540 did not smell like that ..either bottle was fake or something else sketchy is going on in that store.

Made a purchase online during a sale, then Holt Renfrew decided to cancel my order because they can't keep track of their stock correctly. They offered zero compensation for cancelling my order, that was on sale. I wanted to order another version of the exact same item, which I would have ordered had I known they would cancel my order. But they refuse to offer any sort of similar discount or compensation for cancelling my original order. Absolutely terrible customer service and I regret ever spending any money with Holt Renfrew. They don't know the meaning of customer service.

This expanded boutique is nothing short of glamourous and lovely. Walking into Holt I realized I am at the presence of luxury. I just loved it. Yes its pricy, but customers are getting the best of the best. I just love it so much more than its unmentioned competitor. Starts with an "N". The ladies at the beauty counter are incredibly generous with their samples. I was able to try all the skincare and makeup before deciding to purchase one. This is helpful considering I don't live nearby and its difficult taking things back for returns. All in all, Love It.

A female sales in short hair with Taiwanese accent from Chanel cosmetic was super rude and impatient when I asked to try one of Chanel’s perfume this afternoon on 09/22 around 5:30pm. She is the only one who is working there at that time, so she approached me to ask what I want indifferently. She ended up reluctantly took out sample for me to try and angrily asked me to throw away the test card myself after trail. I don’t understand how could such an unpleasant person to work at Chanel cosmetic. She ruin the reputation of not only HR, but also Chanel.

Don’t even bother trying their online shopping. I ordered 3 items on their website in Dec 2020. Now it’s end of Jan 2021, 2 of the items never arrived yet the status says “delivered” and my credit card been charged. I emailed them twice, no answer. Went to their retail store, the staff told me I need to call online shopping department. So gone home and called them, waited for an hour in the phone in order to speak to someone. Only have a staff told me they will file an investigation that will take another 10 business days. And she hung up on me!!!

Very disappointed with their online shopping service. I ordered La Mer products and qualified for gift with purchase ( it was automatically added to my order). After receiving the package, they notified me the gift with purchase was out of stock (this is a lie, they are still offering the same gift in retail store). I emailed them to say I am very disappointed since I could have order the same product from other department store and get free samples. They said they will offer me $25 gift card as compensation, but had NEVER sent me the gift card.

To put it simply the service is TERRIBLE! I spent 20 mins in the shoe department browsing and wanting to try some shoes on, while I watched 6 employees stand around like they had better things to do talking with each other. Then watched a manager come and join. My husband and I were so taken back at the lack of service, we left. This store has really gone downhill from what it used to be. So Nordstrom won my sales that day, and sorry Holt I wont be back. I will gladly go to freestanding boutiques or wait to buy elsewhere!

Every single time I come here, they peg me as a shoplifter. It doesn't matter what I'm wearing or who I'm with or what I'm doing, the second I walk in they have a security guard following two paces behind me. Any staff member that I have tried to ask a question to is always really abrupt with me. I don't know what I've done to offend you guys, but every time I come here I'm treated as a second class citizen and it's gotten to the point where I think I'm going to be actively avoiding this location because of the hostility.

Brought my ALLURE HOMME SPORT EAU DE TOILETTE REFILLABLE TRAVEL SPRAY travel (black case) asked for refills for the travel. However, instead of selling me the Allure Homme Sport Eud De Toilette they sold me the Eau extreme. Maybe they had new staff, I don't know. I went back and had a much better experience when I returned the the Eau Extreme and got what I wanted pleasant experience got my money back. Had my 2nd experience been my 1st I would have given them 4 stars. To get 5 stars a place has to exceed my expectations.

One of the worst personal shopping experiences. Called their personal shopping dept, after connecting me to two different folks on the phone , someone finally called me back and got my info. She was supposed to call me back the same night with some purchase suggestions. Never did. I had told her it is urgent. Called them three times the same night and they promised to call me back. never did. Came to the store in the morning and have been waiting for more than 15 mins with no help. I don’t think employees here care.

My shopping experience at HR is limited to the cosmetics department and I will say that the customer service at the Charlotte Tilbury and Laura Mercier counters has been excellent. The staff have been very friendly and helpful and I'm glad to purchase products from them. I prefer shopping here for high end cosmetics than Nordstrom. Their customer service is terrible. The sales people are more interested in being on their phones than helping me. (there are exceptions but my experience hasn't been that great overall)

I bought a Chanel lipstick two weeks ago, was told I can try it at home on my lips and if not satisfied can come back and exchange it. Came back today, and no one even wants to help me out. This people are ONLY nice to you if your buying , when you havve to do a return, they look down to you like you are no good to their business. Luckily the store supervisor was there and she heped me out. Kudos to Alice Wong! You have shown your staff a high class quality customer service skilled supervisor you are.

Menswear department is clean and organized and there are a few gems of salespeople but I often spend a lot of time by myself without attention. There was a period where I purchased quite a bit from this location and was treated well but it was only by the sales staff that knew me. The ones who weren't familiar couldn't care less about my presence. Just met a really nice guy in women's shoes who worked with the missus on some Gucci sneakers. She didn't buy but he was quite pleasant and well informed.

Holt's is a Canadian Staple. Problem, 80% of the staff ignore you and judge. I asked a member where the Bath Robes where located,? The response " what is a bath robe?" I found them by myself. But, was looking for a white one. Have bought 2 previously for my wife. They only had pink and grey. But, I have to Express. The sales member in the mens shoes was spot on! The gentleman picked up what I was admiring and had the box on the floor before I even asked. The TOD'S fit perfectly! Thank you.

Uhhh, they turned what was an amazing men's floor into a massive perfume department - maybe they're competing with the massive perfume departments at the Bay and Nordstrom - yeah, really needed another. Then they stuffed the men's section into a corner. The jeans shop used to be great, now it's full of tacky stuff you'd look like a fool to wear, or you can go to the slimlly stocked super expensive men's section to buy a $6000 blazer, or some boring Italian wear that I've seen elsewhere

Love holtrenfrew but I have mix encounters with SA in Vancouver branch so most of the time I just order online from Toronto branch.. One time I had nose bleed while in the dressing room and asked for tissue they gave me 1 after that they dint check if I was ok and on top of that while I'm about to pay at the cashier the lady who gave me a tissue is wearing gloves while ringing my items then removed the gloves after I'm done paying. It's like I have a disease. (skims cash register)

They had a draw event where we drew the 40% discount. After placing an online order, which was confirmed at the time, they decided to cancel the order AFTER the event was over, citing out of stock. Other retailers either will tell customers any product that is out of stock at the time of purchase or will work to compensate the customers for the inconvenience. HR didn't do anything. Worst experience ever. If you can commit to your own promotions, then don't hold any.

This was not the experience I had hoped for at all. It is a nice open mall space with small designer shops. I was in the market for a formal gown for my wife, which was what attracted me to their website. Unfortunately none of the interesting items that were on the website were anywhere to seen in the building. It is a place to get bags, make-up and costume jewelry. Gucci stood out as an exception, with some beautiful dresses, and a well merchandised shop.

Don't get me wrong, I've had many good finds and deals at holt Renfrew, I love it for that. But, similarly to other reviews, if you are looking for a good shopping experience good luck getting it here if you are not Chinese. I much prefer shopping at the direct store of a luxury brand (ie, Moncler, Hermes, burberry,etc.) then at Holt Renfrew. I often times do not feel comfortable or welcome in HR and I've heard the same thing from many other people.

I prefer to shop online and usually buy items that are on sale. This can be risky. I bought a pair of Versace boots and they were final sale. No way to try them on as they were not in any Vancouver store. I bought a Limited-Edition Summer Grooming Bag for $100. It later went on sale at a discount of $10. You can see the video of all the products except the beard oil which I gave to a friend. I also posted a photo from the Holt Renfrew website.

Bought two pairs of “The Frame” jeans which ripped through after 2 weeks of minimal use. Obviously a manufacturer defect. Contacted customer care and spoke with Caroline P. who denied a return of the items because they “weren’t in original condition”. Absolutely horrible customer service. Won’t buy from here again. Go to Harry Rosen instead as holt Renfrew provides faulty merchandise then won’t return it or offer any compensation.

Daniel at the Jo Malone counter was friendly and professional. I went in today to exchange 2 items I got for my birthday which I have duplicates of. The transaction went smoothly and quickly. Before I left I asked for small bag for the 1 item I wanted to keep, Daniel wrapped the item nicely, sprayed the tissue paper with perfume, and tied a nice ribbon on the bag. Great work fro making customers feel welcome even for an exchange!

I went to Holt Renfrew with my friend hoping to buy some Alexander Mcqueen shoes and the sales associate Sally, was very dismissive and unhelpful. She treated us as if we weren’t going to buy anything and took over 5 minutes to bring out 2 pairs of shoes. My friend and I were very upset with how we were treated and we went to Nordstrom instead to buy them. We hope no one has to face such terrible customer service again.

Most of the boutiques and cosmetics counters are staffed with helpful salespeople, but I subtracted a star from this review because I find some to be too push, and others too unmotivated to help me. But I'm happy today because I visited the Charlotte Tilbury cosmetics counter and got their usual friendly and helpful service. Then I visited the Juice Beauty counter for the first time and they are now a new favourite.

The staff in the women's fragrance section really helped me in choosing Christmas gifts for my two younger sisters and my mum. I gave them what preferences all of them had and the staff found substitutes that were well loved by my family. The women's shoe selection is vast and the staff were absolutely helpful. I purchased some items from the men's fragrance section and was very pleased with the service I received.

Went to buy a perfume which is a big deal for me since I am super particular. Huge shout out to Anastasia @the perfume department. Knowing perfumes is an art and matching a fragrance takes passion. She helped me find my fragrance in an ocean full of fantastic fragrances. Patient and an excellent listener who took time to understand my preferences and my 'not this one' in her stride until we found 'the'one.

Shopped at Moncler specifically here. Awesome experience! I told them I was interested in t-shirts, to which I was shown a lot of designs and given the backstory on the special collaborations. Trying them on was hassle free! Unfortunately, none of the shirts looked great on me, so I picked up a knitted beanie instead (since it was cold out). Moncler at Holt is certified legit, they will treat you right!

Really great service from the manager Fred Kwak . I bought a wrong size Chloe shoes for my wife. By police we can’t return it. Fred involved in this situation and after his investigation of the shoes still in new condition. He exchanged to the right size for my wife, she is really happy and surprised! That’s a wonderful service and management skills! Really appreciated for the great service Fred Kwak!

They don’t even Deserve 1 star!! Was there today and purchased a very pricy LV purse but had the worst shopping experience and customer service ever !!!! With the amount of money that you are spending in that store, a descent customer care, is so required . The Chinese lady who was helping me, was in such a big rush and very ignorant! Will never go back there , they simply lost a good customer.

Comparing with Nordstrom which I should not, but I always shop them two together, so for me they are really different. Luxury brands collection, HR has Chanel and LV as well as part of Hermes accessories. Buy sales are more materialized. I have no personal connection with HR, so I only do random shopping there. Luckily, there are good deals when you have time patiently checking by pieces.

My experience here was a pleasant one! I had a lovely male associate help me find a gift to give. At first I wasn't sure what I wanted to get but then he helped me pin down exactly what in a very timely manner (because I was in a rush). Safe to say I will be returning Holt Renfrew in the future. Forgot his name and his friends at LV but they were in the men's accessories part of Holt.

Update: a department manager responded to our customer service request regarding the matter and was very kind towards us in rectifying the situation. Tissue paper stained the item in the bag. Specifically asked the cashier to check if the item had a security tag on it, cashier didn't even bother unfolding the item and said, no it doesn't. Got home to find it still has the tag on.

Hey everyone, went in to the Vancouver Store this am. Saturday June 3. 23. B-lined straight to Louboutin, intended to purchase 3 items. No so much an acknowledgement from the young man working. He did make eye contact 3X. As if I was insignificant, looked away. Hoping it wasn't because of the colour of my skin. Sure seemed that way. So, needless to say, very very disappointed.

It's a great place with many good sales! The men clothing section is a bit lack luster but it is better in selection than Nordstrom's. The macarons are also pretty good although less than that of Thierry. The staff don't seem to like people that don't look wealthy which, in my opinion, is funny to watch; especially if you buy something, . Great place for great clothes!

Had such an amazing experience!! I used to shop here quite a bit and haven't in about 2 years and decided to pop in to find a pair of shoes. A lovely lady named Lily greeted me and was extremely attentive and very friendly. Lily also gave me recommendations that I was in love with. I had the best experience in retail in a long time. Highly recommend, she is the best!

I went in to the Holt Renfrew perfume department lately, there were stations everywhere to get masks, gloves and disinfect. This made me feel very safe. Also the staff were extremely nice and greeted me right away and were able to point me in the right direction and also were able to assist me right away. Amazing service, amazing staff. This store is expensive! It is clean, tidy, well organized and very flashy. My problem is this: Is it worth it to pay $2000.00 for a down jacket or $800.00 for a kids jacket, or $500.00 for a pair of shoes? The products seem very nice but are they really better than standard products elsewhere? Other than stratospheric pricing, it is a very nice store.

I went to Holt Renfrew this past week and I was pleasantly surprised with their level of service. Upon entry, there was a nice suited gentlemen who greeted me upon entry and asked me how my day was. Went to shop for something at HR and noticed a lot of the sales staff on their mobile phones. This is a poor reflection of luxury retail considering HR is considered high end. Reading some of the comments with poor customer service, being judged and not valued, I have to admit, it was the case. Decided to take my business elsewhere.

Naturally the price point is on the higher end as it is retail; sometimes the discounts are really nice and you can get luxury for a bargain! Window shopping here is also pretty fun, as the environment has been renovated and improved the last few years!

Do not do online shopping with this Store!!!! They fully charge your card to confirm the order, and then 3 to 5 days later I had several items from two separate orders send me an email saying the the item is out of stock. Then You have to wait for days to weeks to get the return on your card. What a joke.

I bought a pants from the store. However the price of same item drops by about 30% on their website within a week. The store says they don’t reimburse the price difference and asks me to return and get it again. This is how they serve their customer and how they run the business. Very disappointed.

It’s a luxury store, okay. The prices are high. There are no sales. I can only afford a handful of items here, still I do love the (mostly window-) shopping experience. The staff are excellent and never snooty. I always walk away happy even when I’ve only purchased a tube of Marvis toothpaste.
