I been to this pet store several times for a lot of different reasons. My journey began a few months ago when I had the worst experience shopping at another pet store in manhattan. I came here because I vowed I would never return to the other place and so far this pet store is slightly better. Now let me explain the plus and negatives of coming here and you can make up your mind if this is the place for you. I will include as much detail as far as my experience goes with this pet store. [Stock Health] Based on my observations while visiting for about 3 months. I bought 2 finches from here a few months back (abt 2 months ago) From what I observed not just based on my new pets, the pet store overall (animal stock) they are not healthy. I noticed some of these birds are kept in dirty cages and a rare few seem sick. As they bring new animals you can easily lose sight of the sick/unhealthy ones but trust me from paying more than a few visits you will notice them when all the pretty ones are sold. I believe the unsanitary conditions of the cages do not help in keeping them tick/fea free which also contributes to their poor look. [Pet store cleanliness] The store sometimes smells worse than usual due to garbage pile up and it makes it difficult to stay at the back of the store where the birds and other fish tanks are. When they do clean the pet store is welcoming. [Pet food] They always have it in stock fresh or they have it packaged which sells ridiculous and do not recommend it. For example finch food is normally about $3 a lb but in a bag prepackaged sells for $10 for 2.5lb [Refund] Terrible experience. Keep your receipt and expect it to be somewhat of a hassle. I waited over a month for them to get my birds in stock and after waiting an extra week because she promised to try and get them elsewhere to later give me problems on my refund. I made the mistake in trusting and paying in advance in order to have them reserved. She not only did not get them but gave me an attitude on refund. Terrible experience but she realized she had made a mistake, gave me my refund but got no apology whatsoever. [Customer Service] When I bought the finches it was a good experience. When they have stock and you simply go to point at what you want without further assistance no issues. Questions. Both store owners run the pet store. They are married and seem very knowledgeable people. He is always friendly and polite but know this in advance prices are NOT fixed and you can negotiate them sometimes depending on their mood. His wife is a different story, she can sometimes be rude and is almost always short in answers and it can sometimes come off rude. I think she needs better customer service manners overall. [Final thoughts] I think this pet store customer service is Okayish. You could do worse and trust me I been to far worse places not just in the bronx but manhattan. Sanitary wise this place is lacking even more so and you as a buyer need to be careful what you are taking home. If the bird or fish is sick this can infect/kill your other pets so make sure they are selling you a healthy animal and keep separate until you can close monitor if it is safe to introduce them to your other pets due to these warnings/observations. Prices are normal, you will only maybe see a few dollars cheaper or the same compared to big pet stores. Example canneries here sell about $10 more expensive. Love birds here sell $50 cheaper compared to at least 1 other pet store I know who sold me mine in the past for $150 and this pet store sells them for $100 (remember you can negotiate to maybe $90 ea) If taking the risk is worth it, remember to obserserve overall health of the bird and always keep your receipt just incase. This pet store is really terrible when giving advice about the animals that they sell. I bought fancy goldfish for my 10 gallon tank that were really beautiful. I specifically asked the female owner if I needed a ph kit to check the water and she said, “no” because according to her goldfish only need a pump and filter. This is absolutely false. $60.00 worth of fish died. She also sold me Tropical flakes instead of goldfish flakes. She sold me a pack of over priced Hikari algae eater sinking food that killed a total of 6 of my fish and 2 algae eaters before I realized it was the food. I then went to Petco for advice on how to save my last remaining algae eater. That old woman shouldn’t give advice about animals to anyone.

This place is dirty asf. I bought a Kitten There, to find out this 1 month old kitten has ticks and fleas crawling all over her. Your a "Pet Shop" how you Don't clean the animals or even look at them? I brought the kitten back and he tells me ' he didn't know, because he bought it off someone'. Then puts it back in the cage and continues to sell it. The store didn't even have pet flea shampoo or anything for fleas. I was so happy when i saw the kittens that i didn't look around so when i went back i notice the tanks are dirty you bearly could see the fish and the birds look dirty . Just sad how you not taking care of these animals !! they need to be SHUT DOWN!!!!!!!!!

I was happy to meet the owner of this pet shop. He seemed very knowledgeable about taking care of the animals. The animals themselves seemed to be in very good health, which is most important. I was looking around for a parakeet and most of the chain stores like Petland Discounts had sick birds. Even if they didn't show signs of illness, they were likely carrying some disease. Of course, most of their birds will die without ever seeing a veterinarian, let alone an avian vet. The store managers don't care because they're only $10 merchandise. So I was very pleased when I found this place. I bought a very healthy companion for my other parakeet.

This pet store has been here for a very long time.. the fish available are great in size and the prices are comparable to the big chain pet store cept your getting a much larger fish for the price.. as for all the other pet needs again the prices are comparable to the big chain store however if you're from the Bronx you know that going to the pet store on treamont ave is a lot easier than traveling to Broadway or past Gunhill in order to visit the bigger chain store who only offer very small fish

This is the best place to accquire your needs for your pet. Everyone has great customer service, they help you with everything you need. Went here to buy food I needed to hold my goldfish down. Was charged TRIPLE the amount that I would pay via Chewy.com. Do yourselves a favor and save money. This place is not affordable like someone else said. Price label said 19.99, she charged me 21.99 plus tax so you paying at least $23.54. Didn't give me a receipt either. On Chewy you literally pay $8 for a 7.06oz Tetrafin Goldfish flakes.

They have a great selection for such a small shop. They carry some beautiful fish Even their Bettas are fairly large and healthy looking. I got some regular feeder goldfish from them just to add to my community tank and all of them have acclimated well and grown massively in just 2 months. None have developed any illness or had any issues despite just being feeder fish. Which I'm impressed by.

After reading other viewers i wanted to see the store for myself everything I read was true the store is poor it stinks the fish tank is so dirty you cannot see the fish they didn't have any dogs or cats thank God! As for service i didn't ask for any but i wasn't aked either. it really is sad that a place like that has been open as long as it has been. I'd rather go to Petland.

I will never buy anything from this pet shop again I bought my dog a mesh) Muzzle and try to return it cause it was big for my Lil dog and had show her a picture of my dog and she recommended a size 5 but was not able to return for a smaller size so I'm stuck with it and waste my money 18.00 dollars …

I actually liked this little mom and pop place. I don’t know why. They have a very standard selection (lots of angel fish) not very cheap, not especially fancy, not very much equipment or food or medicine - it’s not anything special. But they are such a cute couple and it’s a friendly store.

Bought a leash here and a vest for the leash, was told I could return it, next day there was different worker and they told me I couldn’t return the vest so that’s that. But the leash was at the least durable so it was worth it

Very nice people, helpful and straight to the point. Lots of animals and cool fish. I usually go in to get 20 mealworms for a dollar for my leopard gecko, its the best deal I've seen in that area ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
