Coffee Chronicles: The Rise of a Hero Last time we left our friend, he had been relentlessly pursuing the champagne of coffees. Continuous shortcomings and horrendous substitutions had made our adventurer question if a perfect coffee could even exist. Rendered hopeless without a trace of optimism, Tum-Tum reluctantly walked into yet another coffee shop expecting to be let down once again. Surrounded by hipsters and coffee aficionados, he made his way to the counter and took a glance at the menu. Something was different. The simplicity, the clarity that the menu projected, it was....normal. They listed the usual coffees, espressos, and cappuccinos but just then! Could it be?! They've listed not only a cold brew but also an iced coffee! Maybe it was a mistake. A clever marketing trick to promote the sale of cold brew or an iced coffee when it was, in fact, just the same as the other. Was there hope? As Tum-Tum ordered his coffee he noticed that, to his relief, a simple "large" or "small" preceeding the type of coffee that was desired would result in a coffee delivered respective to what was requested. "We'll that's nice." he thought to himself. He didn't have to speak Italian or feel overrun with embarrassment as his lips stumbled to speak the words necessary to get a medium sized coffee. "One large iced coffee, please", he said with confidence. "Would you like cream or sugar?", replied the barista. "No thanks. I'd like it black". A few seconds had passed and sure enough, a black iced coffee had been delivered to him. He didn't even have to give the barista his name! "Here you go!", said the barista as he cheerfully went on to assist the next person in line. "Right....here we go", Tum-Tum thought gloomily to himself. He took a sip. His eyes widened. His nostrils flared and his tongue began to tingle! "THIS IS INCREDIBLE!", he exclaimed with the biggest eye-closing smile he could muster. His journey was over! He found the perfect black coffee and the perfect coffee shop! He rushed over to shake the barista's hand and thanked him for the euphoria he just discovered. Confused and a bit frightened, the barista looked at him and said, "Hey, this is what we do. We give people good coffee." He could not have been more right. This WAS good coffee. Dare I say, it was fantastic coffee! On a street corner, across from a busy parking lot stood this little coffee shop, unbeknownst to the joy they could spread through the world. All was right in the world and what was just a Tuesday morning, had become the start to a great day. Tum-Tum made his way to the front door, coffee in hand, with a smile on his face. He turned to wave goodbye but couldn't see his barista. "Oh well", he thought. But just then, a small yellowish-orange globe flickered in the sunlight. It was all he could do to contain himself. He darted to the counter, nearly shoving a rather small hipster over the counter. "Wha-what....is....that?", he questioned, his voice almost shaking. Yet another puzzled barista turned around and noticed the orange globe Tum-Tum was pointing at. "Oh that? We get that from France. That's Orangina." The room began to swirl, and Tum-Tum began to feel overwhelmed. "Orangina, you said?", he asked. "Yep. We order a few cases of 'em every week. Do you want one?" Tum-Tum had to pick his jaw up off the floor. Not only did he find his perfect coffee but he also found Orangina, the long lost nectar of the gods he thought could only be found in Paris. "Yes, please.", he replied in an airy voice that resembled a whisper. He left the coffee shop that morning feeling happy, thankful, and almost enlightened. He turned around to take one more quick glance at the shop so he could find it again. "Kah...Kah-wa...Kahwa....coffee. Guess I found my new coffee spot. See you tomorrow Kahwa Coffee. You just got a new regular". He hopped back into his Jeep and drove off into the sunrise, with his iced black coffee in his hand and his orangina tucked away safely in his lunch box.

Great Coffee Experience at Kawha Coffee! ☕‍ Located at 808 N Tampa St, Tampa, FL 33602, Kawha Coffee is a gem in the heart of Tampa that deserves a perfect rating! From the moment I stepped in, I was met with exceptional service and a delightful coffee adventure. ‍ Holly and Will: Superstar Baristas! ‍♀️‍♂️ Holly and Will were the baristas who brightened up my day with their friendly demeanor and quick thinking. When I mistakenly picked up someone else's drink (we had the same order!), they handled the situation gracefully, promptly preparing a new drink for the other customer and generously giving me a free one. Their dedication to their craft and customers was evident, as I watched them work tirelessly without a single break. A Cool Spot with Rustic Vibes Kawha Coffee may be a little dinky, but don't let its size fool you. It's filled with charm and boasts some cool artwork that adds a touch of creativity to the ambiance. Surprisingly quiet coffee shop considering its location right downtown. The coffee was fine but their matcha was better. The employees are kind and helpful. And god bless them for not having wildly overpriced coffee. This was one of the only places lately in the area that doesn’t charge $10 for a regular coffee, which makes me want to come back. I would recommend this as a good spot to work from home or to study, especially because they are open later than most coffee shops in the area, closing at 6pm instead of 4 or 5pm. It’s also great because you can easily wander to Duckweed & Farmacy next door and a number of other spots within a block for a bite to eat afterwards.

I received an email from Kahwa advertising the celebration of their 10-year anniversary saying to stop in for a free coffee from 12-2pm. Sounds great; I live downtown, I love Kahwa, I'm a frequent customer. So I arrive at 2:05, thinking that there would be a little leniency, and get turned away. Now I'm not one to get bothered by little transgressions, however, after having been a multiple-visit-per-week customer and having spent literally hundreds of dollars at Kahwa over the years, I was a bit bitter. Come on, hook a brother up with a single free cup of coffee. I was pretty disappointed with the whole principle. After I walked out the door, I felt that I had to go back to the café and voice my grievance (not that it served any purpose beside my own catharsis). Needless to say, I am no longer a Kahwa customer. As someone who values supporting local businesses, why should I show my loyalty to a company that can't even bare to part with a two dollar cup of coffee to keep a loyal customer? Anyway, I guess buddy brew will have to deal with me now, another disgruntled, entitled millennial.

*Great Ambience Meets, Wonderful Flavor* This was my first Kahwa experience and it left a lasting impression. Found on the corner of E Polk street in downtown Tampa this coffee shop was humming on Sunday morning. Upon entering my wife and I were greeted with friendly smiles. The menu was simple and they were advertising an iced Hawaiian option. We ordered and walked our way around that eye catching circular centerpiece brew station/cashier place there is a lot to be seen. From local artwork to comfortable seating, this place is great. We picked up our order and to my great pleasure that iced coffee option was spectacular. It reminded me of Hawaiian coffee I’ve had in the past but, the flavor when paired with almond milk was a 10/10! This place is well worth the visit if you found yourself in downtown Tampa!

Very cool ambiance; it has outdoor seating which is pet friendly! The coffee is excellent with choices for those of us who are vegans. I had the large caramel latte with oat milk and the banana vegan bread, and I loved it so much that I went three days in a row. The same barista made the first two which were the perfect balance between milk and coffee. The third had a bit too much milk. Something to note-I’m not sure if it’s regular practice but my large coffees were not as hot as I have experienced in other places. If you lie your coffee a bit on the hotter side, try it before you leave. I must say they did heat them up graciously each time! While you are there, visit Farmacy—delicious Vegan shop at Duckwheet

It's my go to coffee shop downtown. I wanted to also share some photos from my walk around the area this morning. Ummm, coffee. I would rate the "food a 3", it's very yummy but not on a five star level for dinning. It's coffee shop items. The coffee is always delicious and my favorite. Worth a five star rating. Since coffee is "food" I wanted to clarify a bit. It's a coffee shop, my food rating is for the coffee. The muffins and cookie style items are 4 stars. The staff is what makes the place though. Without them it's just good coffee and snacks.

I'm not one to leave many reviews, but I felt like my favorite barista Lydia needed a shout out. I get cold brew refills (growler) a couple of times a week and I visit the store a lot. Whenever Lydia is there she makes sure that I leave smiling! She memorized my order ages ago and you can tell she enjoys what she does! I was having a really rough time the past few days and I went in to get some coffee and Lydia was there, super nice as always. She made sure I got everything I needed and her kindness and excellent service really made my day!! It's only fair that I leave this review for her so that every one knows that she's the best barista and nicest person ever!! Thanks Lydia!!

We came from Colorado to see a comedian and Tampa and stayed close to Kahwa. We got coffees the first day, and sat on the patio. The girl working (I think carly?? Piercings by her eyes) was unbelievably patient and helpful, but also super friendly. We were accosted by a homeless man outside and she immediately took care of it. We came back the next day for coffee again, and she and her manager both apologized to us for the prior day’s events. They comped our coffee without us even mentioning it, and we are both just impressed by the customer service here because it seems to be lacking in so many other places. And the coffee is good!

Pros: the baristas were absolutely amazing! We called ahead and asked a few questions like if there was wifi and if we could sit inside, I’ve never heard such a positive and cheerful girl answering, cold brew was amazing, love that the front door was open for air flow, everything is spaced out Cons: I’m extremely allergic to peanuts and the “supersize cookie” has a lot of peanuts in that i didn’t realize until after I had a huge bite, it isn’t labeled anywhere. I ended up having to take Benadryl and felt horrible from it all I’m definitely coming back to try another pastry and update the stars ⭐️

  • Ric Rini

Okay, it's not exactly my favorite coffee but it's not bad by any means. For my taste, it's a bit bitter and seems to really be heavily caffeinated so I usually opt for the decaf. They have some pretty good iced teas and pastries/danishs' and other sweets. The interior space is nice and allows good ambient light into the building. The high ceilings give it a very open feeling but also make it sound a bit hollow when they start to froth the milk. The staff here are very welcoming, friendly, courteous and professional.

Went in to order coffee at 5:35pm on Wednesday 1/5 and wanted to wash my hands before enjoying my coffee. The barista didn’t acknowledge our existence until I asked for the key to the restroom. She told me she just sprayed it down and didn’t want to clean it again because she wanted to get out of here. I asked her if they were already closed and that I just wanted to wash my hands before ordering, and she told me she’s leaving in 15 minutes and to go somewhere else to use the restroom. Horrible customer service.

  • John T

ordered the BLT and a cup of Chicken Tortilla soup, the soup was super thin with barely any chicken and zero tortillas, whatever, it had decent flavor but really heavy on the Cilantro. The BLT was a travesty, they assembled the sandwich with the lettuce and tomato and two strips of bacon and mayo and threw the whole thing into a Panini press. How lazy! They grilled the lettuce and tomato. so gross I had to throw it out, who even cooks lettuce? Won't go back here, this is the downtown location.

  • Chelsea Lawson

I enjoyed this coffee shop. It was cute, clean and spacious. The coffee was great (iced americano with sugar free vanilla). There’s a station with sugar & powder options and cream. The barista helping me was so so, didn’t seem so excited to be at work, I only note this because it makes a difference to have a friendly welcome and helpful customer service. Small patio outside as well but it was overtaken by creepy men

Much to my surprise, Kahwa Coffee in Downtown Tampa proved it's a legit coffee shop. Cappuccinos were delicious and the robust variety of sweet and savory pastries, compliment the coffees and teas nicely. The atmosphere was relaxed, with plenty of space to relax, read or study. The downtown Tampa scene is stepping up its game!

Ordered a 12oz hot soy chai tea latte. Bomb. Never will be able to enjoy one from that meteorological money place again. Not overly sweet. Spiced but not too much. So comforting. I wanted to curl up in a corner with my cat back at home so good. Husband got a flat white and loved it. He also at a fruity pebbles rice crispy. Water is free. :) Can't wait till they open stores all over Florida.

I really like coming to this coffee shop when I visit Tampa. Everyone is friendly and they offer vegan pastries and vegan milk which is a huge plus when you’re away from your usual local spots. This time I got the cold brew with almond milk and the vegan banana nut bread. Both were awesome. They also use paper straws which I love. It’s always nice to see businesses taking another step in the right direction. Definitely check it out if you’re downtown Tampa.

  • Michael Hemingway

One of the few Tampa coffeehouses open as early as 6AM. Only Starbucks is open sooner at 5AM. As of yet, other than at The Hilton and Embassy Suites, there is no Starbucks coffeehouse. The Sykes Building Rivergate has a Starbucks kiosk clone operated by Canteen Food Services. Dutch coffee is excellent especially with Expresso shots. Great conversational place for two or more and just for solitude. Great music and free internet WI-FI access

  • Joey Weeks

Discovered this place about 3-4 weeks ago while waiting for the city bus. Tried their Ice Cafe Latte with caramel syrup and I instantly fell in love with the drink. They are at a convenient location and the prices for the drinks are very reasonable. If you work in the Downtown Tampa area, or if you’re just passing by, I highly recommend stopping by here for some of the most delicious coffee you’ll ever have!

  • Gary-James Knight

Great vibe in a surprising location. We've needed a coffee shop downtown for a long time that was open early and I'm glad these guys saw the opportunity and took advantage of it. Kahwa has been around for a long time there a great brand, and they know how to roast coffee for certain. This is one of my go-to places in the morning before the office opens if I need to get work done early.

  • Eric Post

They’re located on the first floor of the building I live in, so when I say the location is great of course I’m a bit biased. That’s not to say that anybody who lives/works in downtown Tampa should consider visiting if you haven’t already. They sell local art which is pretty cool - contributes to an eclectic atmosphere. Good coffee, service usually quick and friendly.

  • Onica Pinder

I don’t visit this location often but when I do, I never seem to get a friendly staff member. I order ground coffee online from Kahwa every month and I love the fast delivery and quality of their coffee but this location is disappointing when it comes to customer service.

Best espresso I've had in Tampa and everyone here is really friendly. I've probably been over 100 times in the past couple years and I always get a perfect drink. There's a 12% chance I'm sitting here right now. Also a good place for a coffee meeting or to do some short term remote work. Ask for wifi password if you need to connect.

Kahwa has great coffee, and this location has a cool interior, but it smells TERRIBLE. Like manure, in fact. I couldn’t even stay and had to go elsewhere. Can’t believe they haven’t sorted this out (somebody mentioned it in a previous review and I thought they might have just been fussy! They weren’t. They’re entirely correct.)

  • Erik Marsja

Finally, some decent coffee in Tampa Bay area. I've been in the area for almost a week and American coffee, in general, is not that good. I got the brewer coffe and it was good. It was also nice to sit, out on the street, enjoying the coffee looking at traffic passing by. The staff was friendly and they offer free Wi-Fi.

  • reis john

This is a nice place. Have always been friendly. That picture above with the ashtray and cigarette butts is disgusting. Need to remove that from your photos, unless you think it is attractive to customers. what do I know of marketing?. If I saw that there I don't think I'd be back but so far has been good coffee place.

  • EJB 3

Made a quick stop here for a coffee - got a 16 oz cold brew with milk and sugar. Excellent coffee and at a great price, less than $3. Glad we stopped in. Not a ton of seating inside but a decent amount of chairs and tables outside, some with umbrellas. If you’re downtown and need a coffee, I definitely recommend.

Hands down, Tampa's best coffee! The roast is perfect-Ive never had a had cup. To top it off, the customer service is always top-notch! The baristas are always friendly and engaging. I love that they give you a small spoon rest and lots of milk and sugar/sugar substitutes. Very relaxed place to work from as well.
