BEWARE OF THIS CLUB AND SALESPERSON AND TRAINER KVON B.!!! I had a call from KVON B. at this club on June 27, 2023. He was at first very personable and told me that I could come in for a free training session because my insurance company allowed one free session. He seemed very friendly over the phone, and I felt comfortable enough to tell him about my recent cancer diagnosis. I scheduled an appointment for June 28, 2023, at 9:30 am. I went in, and KVON was as polite as can be. We had a good workout session. He sat down with me to go over what the costs of a personal trainer would be. He told me three monthly sessions are $ 195.00 per year, charged upfront. I was very explicit in my questioning, leaving no room for misunderstanding when I verified that he quoted the correct price; he assured me that $ 195.00 per year was all I would pay. He said it because the billing is "bundled and annualized." I agreed to that pricing and he had me sign the contract electronically. I know better than to sign something I cannot see. He had me sign on the electronic pad as he explained what I was signing, saying I would get a copy in my e-mail. I could not see the actual verbiage as it was not made available. I know better because I am in sales, but I was conned by his seemingly genuine personality and desire to help me. When I arrived home, it was nagging me. I pulled up the contract in my e-mail, and not only did he charge me $ 99.00 more ($ 294.00) upfront; the contract stated it is $ 195.00 per month with an annual cost north of $ 2,400.00. I was livid; I called the club and asked for KVON. The young lady transferred me, and I was disconnected. I called back, told the young lady I wanted to speak to a manager, and explained why. Kvon then came to the phone; I told him how dishonest this was and told him this was a blatant fraud. He suddenly changed like Kujo and was on the defensive and said this was for my health. (As if he cares so much about my health, lol). I told him I wanted to cancel, and he sarcastically said that you must come in to cancel if you wished to cancel. I went in that evening and told the young lady at the front desk that I wanted to speak with a manager. She went and got Kvon. He came out on the defensive. He said there was a misunderstanding; I said, "No, you knew perfectly well what you were doing. I asked you specifically in closed-ended questions about the pricing". This was when the truth came out. He was poking fun at my cancer diagnosis. He sarcastically said, "That is on you because I am healthy." I did not become upset because I knew he was very insecure and unintelligent. He went on and on and continued to argue with and antagonize me. I said, "I will not argue with you; I want to speak to a manager." He said, "You are looking at him." I continued with the young lady, canceled the membership, and walked out as he continued to spew insults. Please beware of these people and their sales tactics, especially beware of KVON B. They asked questions like how many times you go to Starbucks a month? They are trying to size up your wallet. He also asked questions like who I have as a support system? This is playing on your vulnerability as if they will support you in need. None of this is genuine, all they are trying to do is get you to sign a contract for their commissions, and if you do not cancel within 72 hours, you are screwed!

I’ve been worked out LA fitness located for a couple of months. I’ve always being a good member, I never left a dirty equipment behind, and always control my voice. Today when I was working out on the treadmill, one lady step on the treadmill by my side and started to talking on the phone very loud and laughing. I nicely mentioned her just low her voice she started laughing at me. I didn’t talk more to her, I found a manager who opened my account for me, what he told me made me feel so disappointed. At first I’ve been told he’s not going to deal with this because he’s not managing about the front, he only managing the money. And he told me I should not talk to any other costumers and I would have to deal the same situation all the time. Because I’m in a BIG gym. LA fitness is the biggest around my area. OK, Is that mean BIG GYM couldn’t offer good service because you have too much members so you don’t care about to lose one custom like me? Also when I first signed up, he told me I will get one month free and I never get that. I feel so sorry you’re losing the good customers like me and keeping all those kind of people in the gym. I have to cancel my member ship. I can’t face the managers and afraid to get in the same situation like he said.

Had a terrible experience with staff today. I spoke with Kareem and he did not inform me of all the offers they had available, even those with insurance, and it felt like a complete rip off. I did additional research, and found a lower rate through my insurance and they were completely unaccommodating with switching my membership. I waited over an hour to get help from a sales rep, even though the manager Kvon was in the gym the entire time. When I finally was able to speak with him, he was very short and rude with my questions and issues. I had to contact my insurance, and when I asked who would be available to help me once I corrected the issue with insurance he told me "you have already been helped. It's my break and i'm going to my car. you will have to wait until someone else gets back" That is completely unacceptable given I had already been waiting over an hour for piss poor help. In the end, i decided not to get a membership even through the lower rate with insurance, and I cancelled my membership the same day I activated it. HORRIBLE SERVICE. and LA Fitness has horrible rates. Definitely not worth the time or energy, I'd rather give someone else my money.

I now question the safety of this location. Today, someone walked off the street with gun in his front pocket. No one was at desk when he entered, but even if they were. They can ONLY due so much to prevent people from entering. The receptiontist who I later learned was the manager provided a very "unsatisfactory" response when I asked about the security/safety protocols. So, I called corporate hoping to find some relief...and more PROACTIVE response. I was again disappointed. The gym, like so many other places we visit are vulnerable places for violence. I suggest armed security, and the response "we've never done that." AND!! You can NOT put a PRICE ON SAFETY. I hope the Bronzeville location and others start taking PROACTIVE steps to keep members + staff safe. And, keeping someone at the desk is just not enough! Do better.

I have been going to the LA Fitness Center since they opened. I quickly switched from the Canal Street Center to this one on King Drive. It is excellent! I am an early bird. I have been here right at 5am and they have always opened on time. The machines are great, the atmosphere is wonderful and the center is bright and clean. I have never encountered a problem here and I highly recommend. Update: Last week was my first time to return since the start of the pandemic back in 2020. I am so happy that this LA Fitness Center remains awesome! I continue to highly recommend!!!

The current manager invites the Chicago police in to recruit at a booth inside the gym on a weekly basis. When I complained about the police presence and their recruitment table, he kicked me out of the gym today by calling on those same police. The manager does not care about members and cannot handle needed criticism. Looking at the manager, you can also tell he's never exercised in his life and doesn't understand the need to exercise in stress-free gym without police recruitment tables.

  • Aja Christian

I've only been coming in for about a week but I have no complaints so far. It's big (in my opinion), much bigger than my last gym. Lots of room, I personally think they have more than enough machines and equipment to go around. Everything seems pretty clean to me. Can get crowded during certain times of the day but that's to be expected. Haven't had any issues with anyone or anything so far, I definitely plan on coming in as much as possible and taking advantage of all their amenities.

They hire some of the worst people possible the dark skin guy with the nose ring very disrespectful and rude this the person who’s manager this establishment yeah I will never give y’all good ratings. The white guy don’t speak to Black people. I guess cause it’s on a 35th and king drive they hire people with hatred attitudes. I hope this gym get enough complaint so the CEO. Can come out to reevaluate everybody who’s been hired or who is getting higher or who is doing the hiring

The lack of ability to rack dumbbells at any gym leaves it with one star. I'll never understand why gym owners nor employees take any responsibility in organizing the free weight area. Why do I have to go on a scavenger hunt to find matching dumbbells. Why even hire people if they aren't going to do their jobs. It's the least they can do. The gym isn't dirty to my knowledge and is fairly big/open but again. You pay people to sit on their phones all day? Ridiculous.

  • Unique Miles

I just signed up and already disappointed about the hot tub not getting fixed the the lady Lupè that signed me up said I will be paying 49.99 annual fee then when I look in my email it stated that I will have to pay 59.99 s month I am thinking about canceling base on that scam miss take she claim. Now she calling everyone on my visitor list to see f they going be able to come in without me and she told me they can come anytime with me what’s really going on.

My first time here and I AM IN LOVE. THE STAFF IS AMAZING AND VERY ATTENTIVE. THEY CHECKED MY TEMPERATURE AT THE FRONT AND ANSWERED MY QUESTION. THEY HAVE A SMOOTHIE BAR!!! I came here with a friend to a new gym and I promise to be back a WHOLE LOT MORE ON THIS FAT LOOSE JOURNEY!! Mask have to be worn and I see people are taking it serious and that's so good to see. New member coming soon!!

  • Borris

I am giving this LA fitness location a 2-star rating. Management changed over the last year. There is consistently mold growing in the male showers and also on the shower curtains. They have the staff and the cleaning products to get it right. I have alerted reception staff for the past 3 weeks minor improvements ... It's time to start emailing corporate offices. This is not acceptable.

  • kenny miles

The gym itself isn't bad but they have big theft problem here. I've had my lock cut twice by theives in the men's locker room and many other people have reported the same thing. The gym isn't doing much to solve this other than just making announcements to check your locker and not to keep things in the locker. Basically you will need to carry your things around.

I currently attend 2 LA Fitness centers. The difference is like day and night. The one in Lake Meadows has changed so much for the better. The manager is so beautiful inside and out. The water aerobics instructors are helpful and fun. Thank God I came back "home". The other one I go to has cold as ice staff with the exception of one.

  • Kennda Burt

For some reason, as the pandemic is still around, and there is a rise of Monkey Pox... they've taken away the disinfectant spray bottles. I'm perplexed and frustrated. Other than that this gym is my top in the city. You see every shape and size, never hear snickers or disrespect. They do take a minute to fix certain machines though.

I enjoyed my personnel fitness class with Walter today. He asked me what brought me into L.A. Fitness and what I thought I might be comfortable with. After my stretching exercises with him I was able to try out other equipments on my own. I felt so well rounded after I left the facility...what took me so long to attend L.A. fitness!

  • Gowri Dulanjalee Adhikari

We recently got membership. So far we didn’t experience any problem. Not too crowded but that depends on the time. Minor issue is that visitors don’t bother to restock dumbbells. Small three lane swimming pool with sauna and jacuzzi. Ladies locker room is clean and lockers are clean too. Reasonable price. So good experience.

  • Kevin B

Great location, but the staff does a poor job maintaining the weight racks and quickly repairing broken equipment. Decent amount of cardio machines. Underwhelming gym experience, but so is LA Fitness as a brand. You get what you pay for I guess. Bronzeville is overdue for a premium fitness club.

  • Jenai

equipment is frequently inoperable, and it goes a long time without being repaired, fitness classes don’t start on time and get canceled with no update to the schedule on the app, weights are rarely re-racked. positive things about it: there aren’t many gyms in the area, and it’s inexpensive?

  • robert dixon

I'm being generous with three stars. the staff is ok at times, dumbbells are everywhere, one of the janitors is rude and the men's locker room is poorly cleaned. now for the good part; the location is convenient, the trainers are energetic and a few of the staff members are awesome.

  • Armando Guzman

So far so good. I do t ask much from a gym, plenty of machines and weights so there is minimal waiting. This place has it all. I didn’t give a 5 star because the various cardio machines are a little dated. They work fine but no machine has the modern charging cords for the phones.

  • Chastity Cryer6

Hi, Rah, assistant manager is awesome. He changed my life! He was well knowledgeable, respectful and very helpful in conveying what the gym offers and how its beneficial to my needs and health. Rah, also provided a superb amount of good customer service, huge thanks Rah!!

  • Lotus Investing

Manager at front desk Liz is the worst!!! Always in her phone when members walk in. I have seen multiple people walk past her without checking in. Is extremely rude!! The gym always looks a mess weights on the floor. Barely any working equipment and always theft!!

  • Ope Animashaun

its okay, they need more variety in equipment. i can only use 20% of the machines there, they lack variety. We need a tire in there it would be great for conditioning Also i has an appt with one of the trainers for feee as a new member and he never followed up

  • Michelle Vaughn

I can always get a good workout in here. The classes are fun and engaging. The instructors push you without making you feel uncomfortable. The facilities are always clean. I like that they have a place for kids. I love the pool and sauna area as well.

  • Janel Belovette “JB” Jenkins

The hottub hasn’t worked for months now. I’m considering a new gym. The patrons are wonderful, and I love the classes, but management just sucks. They let the police set up a table to recruit, which is incredibly distracting and frankly stressful.

  • Brandon

I spoke with Djuan and he was able to clear up any questions I had quick and professionally. The facility is clean, equipment is up to date and plenty of space to get in whatever kind of workout. Overall one of the best LA Fitnesses I’ve been to!

  • Chris Pennant

I love it. I got my membership through Blue Cross Blue Shield's Fitness incentive so I haven't had some of the issues others have run into, but I really like the facility. The swole dudes do spread the free weights around too much and they

  • Latifat A.

Many gym goers attend this gym. The staff is friendly. It's nice that they have a little cafe there as well as other vendors on occasion. This location comes with a pool and plentiful parking in the plaza which is a plus. The equipment is

  • Aqua Man

Zero stars is not possible. Stay far away from this location!! They don't take care of equipment, weights are everywhere and never put back. They have been closed the past 2 weeks now!!!! Said they were going to open back up Monday. Drive

  • Sam L

Usually I like coming to this gym because it’s convenient because of it location. Today I was approached very aggressively and unprofessionally by one of the employees. I was in the process of taking the weights off a bar to do some bench

  • Braxton McNeill

Pretty good LA Fitness, about average for the chain. The staff is friendly and it was busy at 9 am on Saturday. I visited this location while traveling. It was easy to reach on the Green line & then walk 6 blocks.

  • Sekhar Nalluri

LA Fitness offers many amenities at an outstanding value. Gym amenities may feature Functional Training, state-of-the-art equipment, basketball, group fitness classes, pool, saunas, personal training, and more!

  • Kaitlin Patterson

A decent place to workout but not a lot of variety in machines, not a lot of floor space compared to other places, and the times are really inconvenient for me. I wished they opened earlier and closed later. :(

  • Malcolm Branch

Gets overcrowded and a but messy in the free weights section of the gym. Sales team is not the most professional - uses emergency contacts as leads and not very aware of discounts or corporate partnerships.

  • Sandra Washington

Not as big as other L.A Fitness centers I've been to. Wish they offered more class times in the afternoons and had extended hours for us working folks. Staff is nice

  • K Elizabeth

Cleaning staff is on point, always cleaning. Saw someone shopping up near the pool while aqua class was going on. The other staff members, just as nice.

  • Gideon Grimm

No one re-racks their weights! There are also NO KETTLEBELLS. Like all the other LA Fitnesses in Chicago do, why can't yall? smh

  • A S

Pool is never open, closed for long periods of time and was recently closed by the city health department, ew.

  • Tyheisha Singleton

I enjoyed myself. I worked out and had a great time. Thank you, L.A. Fitness Club.
