Beautiful facility but extremely overcrowded. Even during less busy periods of the day, you will still have to wait for a bench, squat rack or cable machine pretty much every time. There are always more people here than equipment. I have tried literally every time of the day and night and it's always packed. In addition, there are alot of people who work out here who just seem utterly oblivious to gym etiquette, and who will stay on squat racks for over 30 minutes just scrolling on their phones half the time. This isn't the fault of management, but maybe some educational campaigns would be helpful. What really sent me over the edge was that the club is constantly promoting new memberships when it seems like it is at capacity already and seems to have zero regard for the member experience. Only reason I keep my membership is because I can walk here and it's cheap. I guess you get what you pay for. Don't expect good service or honesty either. This is a corporation interested in getting your money and isn't willing to do anything to create a positive experience. I have been routinely lied to, cheated twice, charged for 2 memberships for 3 months, and the complete lack of concern or responsibility when these things are brought up is shocking. Employees should be more empowered because some of them actually care, but they can't do anything without checking with their "VPs," Seems like they have extremely high turnover as well, which is a clear sign on what matters to LA Fitness.
EXCEPTIONAL STAFF [L.A. Fitness Mission Valley]... I've been visiting this particular location since the first week they (re)opened and the managers (previous and present) and staff have always been very polite. Daniel (current manager) is professional, courteous, and quick to address reported issues. I recently left a short hand-written note for Daniel as I was leaving the gym to report that the water temperature in the women's showers had been noticeably cooler and asked that they adjust the water temperature. After returning to the gym a few days later, the shower was nice and hot; perfect for post-workout relaxation. Consider a few POSITIVE reasons to join/keep your membership: PROS: New equipment; modern design/aesthetic (no dirty carpet lining the floors or benches in the locker rooms... yuck!); plenty covered parking (2-level garage); food/shopping/retail in walking distance; diversity (age, race, culture, physical fitness/ability) amongst staff and members ; great selection of classes. Busiest times on weekdays: after 3PM Busiest times during weekends: 11AM - 2PM *Note: this all depends on holiday breaks, conferences, etc.
I started going to the Mission Valley LA Fitness in January 2023. I’m leaving a 5 star review solely because of my personal trainer, Chase. Chase is knowledgeable, flexible, and professional. I did a session with another trainer who had already written out a workout for me BEFORE assessing my activity level, injuries, etc. I was wary of her ability to train me so I tried with Chase and couldn’t be happier. The facility itself is new and there are always employees there cleaning, which makes it feel well taken care of. The front desk staff is always alert and helpful. The sales team is less friendly and more like used cars salesmen. I primarily workout during the slow hours (not too early in the AM and never after work when everyone goes. I rarely feel like I have to fight to use a machine or weights. I’ve attended some Yoga classes taught by Bri and Kat- both are inclusive and great yogis!
This is an okay gym, above average really, but it should and can be better. The showers have no consistent pressure except for 2 in the men’s locker room, the pool area does not get cleaned enough; and some of that are on the members because people are gross. But the point of LA fitness is that it serves a clientele wanting better than average gym experience and this is just not there yet. It’s not supposed to be country club, but the amenities are as cheap as the complex around it, this will be telling In a year or 2 when the neglect really adds up. Invest now staff/ownership in upkeep, or buyer beware of this gym going downhill fast. Also get a swimsuit drying machine in the locker rooms please. The gym equipment is decent though, and the overall layout is decent, but it gets crowded fast so claim a machine and be prepared to alter your workout readily.
The number one reason I go to LA fitness instead of my apartment gym is the sauna. This one has been broken for months with no eta on when it will be fixed. Not sure what is taking so long because every other LA fitness I’ve been to in NJ and LA, if the sauna was broken it would be fixed within a week. PLEASE FIX THE SAUNA ASAP! It makes a difference for a lot of people and the fact that they let it go so long just shows they don’t care. There’s no reason it should take 6+ months to fix a sauna (they said it may potentially be fixed in a few more month like the end of the year and it’s been down since June. Also, they do have a lot of machines here but it gets so crowded. I wasn’t able to get in on any cables. The last time I went it was unbearably hot like no AC. So now I just sadly go to my apartment gym.
My personal trainer, Ulanda is great. Highly recommended. But i have problem with whoever im talking to about pausing my personal training. Since October, i talked to them to pause my personal training because i have a lot going on, but they billed me on October. Then comes November, i called them again to remind them (which they should know by now) to pause my personal training. And the staff told me, no problem. But again i Got billed on November. And Finall comes December, i called them again to remind them for the 3rd time to pause my persinal training which they agreed once again, but still i got billed.. they are basically taking my money for free..
This is a most beautiful LA Fitness, in my opinion. Everything is so new, from the front entrance, exercise equipment, spa area to locker room. There are few LA fitness around my area, but I am willing to travel more than 10 miles to use this facility. It is right in the middle of Mission and Fashion Valley, I don't think they can find a better location for another LA Fitness (LAF) Club in San Diego area. I have joined LAF for the last 2 years and visited many LAF, Esporta, and City Sport clubs from Northern CA to San Diego, and this LA Fitness is top of my list.
I appreciate the convenient distance of LA Fitness from my home and the cleanliness of the facilities. However, one major downside is the consistent overcrowding, which can make workouts frustrating. Additionally, it's disappointing that they frequently turn off the AC to save money, leading to discomfort during workouts. Another drawback is the sauna being turned off during the summer, possibly for cost-saving reasons, which diminishes the overall experience.
Their sauna is currently not working! This is a complete dis-service to members and there’s no end in sight as to it being mitigated. Evidently the infrared is not code or a fire hazard so they need to create another original model and this has clearly infuriated guests. If you’re management look at all the negative reviews being left for this location and what an awful reputation this has created for a once beautiful facility. Y’all do better!
Between it being overcrowded at all times of the day including weekends, Wi-Fi being nonexistent, cell service being blacked out, water fountain never working…I feel like I’m about to have an aneurysm anytime I walk in. Started driving 15 min away to the next closest LA fitness to avoid this. Equipment might be older at other locations but hey at least I’m not leaving in a worse mood than when my workout first started.
Came here for the first time and this has to be the nicest LA Fitness I've been to. New location that just opened so all the equipment is new, very spacious gym where you don't feel cramped and the locker room is awesome. The lockers are large, with plenty of sinks and stalls. They do have an Olympic size pool and also an infrared sauna. if you're looking for a gym in Mission Valley, check this place out. Ask for Ron!
I am very disappointed coming to this gym. I used the pool, jacuzzi, and women's locker room. The pool and jacuzzi have corossion. Needs a good scrub down. Water all over the place slip and fail hazard. Water was warm in pool that was a plus. Does anyone check chemicals on a daily? Cloudy. Lockers are old, carpet... ??? Needs a new design. Updates are needed asap. ✌️
I’ve been too all the locations here in San Diego and this is by far my favorite one. I used to drive from spring valley to mission valley just to come here. Thank god I moved 6 mins down the street. I like this location too much too go anywhere else. Staff is always nice. The location is always super clean. New equipment, comfortable environment
Great workout equipment. Clean, a lot of choices of equipment. Great locker rooms and sauna and pool. Update, the men's suana has been broke for months. No repair.. So that is getting annoying. Also, obviously as the area grows the gym gets more crowded. It is starring to be very crowded in the morning especially..
I've been with LA Fitness since 2006 and it is wonderful that I can use any facility as I travel. They make it as easy as if I was walking into my local club. Friendly staff here and the club is new and kept clean! Positive attitudes and strong work ethics can be seen throughout the gym. Great start to the day!
I left a review one year ago where I wrote this is the best LA Fitness in San Diego. However, it’s been while since the sauna broke (about 3 months) and there is a notice at the door stating they’re trying different stuffs. Anyways, I love coming here, but this is something that bothers me.
I love this location thanks to its size and amount of equipment. However, they aren't doing a good job of upkeep. The men's bathroom is starting to get real dirty and the sauna has been out of commission for over a month now and they don't seem to have any urgency to fix it when I asked.
This LA Fitness is spectacular. Everything is very clean and in perfect working order. The attendants are very friendly and resourceful. They have a great variety of machines and there are several of each. The parking lot is very busy but I have been able to get a spot.
Manager must be pocketing the money he is alloted to pay a janitor because this is the NASTIEST RESTROOM IVE EVER SEEN IN A GYM. YES THAT IS BLOOD AND HAIR IN THE SOAP DISPENSER. TRASH AND HAIR EVERYWHERE. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. GYM itself is pretty clean though.
Not always friendly staff, lacking in cable machines so impossible to use them when busy which is most the time. I know people are leaving because of this. THEY SHOULD ADD MORE!!!! Don't even have enough pulley grips, RIDICULOUS!!!!!! Nice size and usually clean
This is a really nice gorgeous brand new facility. I went there to check out the pool. It was a Saturday afternoon and not busy at all and the sales rep was friendly without being over bearing lots of easy parking across the street in a dedicated garage.
This could be the best looking La Fitness. However, there’s very little water in the showers and the steam room is not working. Parking is very difficult to find. Please fix these things so we can enjoy this gym in a very modern area in San Diego CA
I use to go here but I had to change gyms. I now go to 24hour fitness on imperial Hopefully my gym crush finds me again. Only thing I miss that doesn't compete Is the sauna rooms at lafitness. I wish 24hours had separate rooms and were clean.
One of the nicest LA Fitness’s I’ve ever been to. Equipment’s updated and clean. My favorite is the fact they have platforms for deadlifts although they’re always taken. Very accommodating and cool vibe in there!
Beautiful gym! Super clean. Very open and bright. Typical machines you’d find at any LA, in great condition. Easy parking in the garage, free and no time limit. Place looks like It’s very well kept and cleaned !
Equipment is unfortunately terrible in "updated" LA fitness gyms. The company is systemically replacing an excellent selection of Cybex and Nautilus Nitro with Hoist and Matrix.
this gym is so beautiful. they also have parking. Im literally going to move in the area to be closer to it. thanks Demetrio for the tour!
Great, still somewhat new gym. But if you want to use one of the 3 squat racks on a weekday, prepare to wait between 10 to 30 minutes.
Parking is easy, gym clean, sauna has been under repair for too long in women's restroom and pool area they keep way too warm.
Cleanest LA fitness of all the ones I have been to. Stuff are very good people.
