Round #2 Returning to a restaurant you've been to is one thing, but being welcomed back to La Trattoria by Billy and the team is something special. We all felt like seafood on the night and proceeded to order what was some of freshest seafood I've had for some time; Local Oysters, Prawns & Sea Perch all tasted as though they had been sourced from the ocean that very day, add to that a couple bottles of Moet and we were some very happy campers. Out Italian waiter, Giacomo, was great value. His charismatic energy and table side banter added to what was a fantastic evening which was topped off with a late night picture with Billy. Round #1 If ever a restaurant was a institution in SA, then La Trattoria has to be the most iconic of them all. For almost 50 years, The Tratt (as its affectionately known) has been serving Adelaide locals and global celebrities authentic Italian just like Nonna would cook. The food here is as honest as a summers days is long. No frills, just damn tasty meals that fill the belly and nourishes the soul. Our crew noshed its way through a Bruschetta Monte Bianco, Mussels Darinti, Veal Scallopina Florentina, Gamberi Alla Trattoria, Pollo Avocado, Spaghetti Bolognaise and Alla Siciliana. Even at 10pm the place was absolutely buzzing with the chatter of happy patrons, whilst the staff whizzed around attending to everyones needs. Special mention to our waitress Teresa who had us captivated with her banter & beautiful smile and whom we have affectionately adopted as our Matka Chrzestna (aka polish god mother)
I used to rave about La Trattoria Restaurant & Pizza Bar and recommended friends, family and coworkers on how good the food was but yesterday has changed my decision. I placed a takeaway order and stood there with full visibility in the kitchen how food was prepared. Unfortunately I was not happy to see a chef who was coughing his lungs out, coughed on his hands and not washing them...continued to prepare a pizza with his filthy hands. Although, I wasn't too concerned as this old man was not cooking my pasta but thinking about it now, I'm not 100% sure who made it. The lunch was delicious, it was expected and as I said, I used to rave about this place. My partner and I actually got food poisoned which i now realise how unhygienic these chefs are not washing their hands while handling customer's food. I'm not usually the type of person who voice out my concerns but I took the risk and I'm pretty much dying with regrets at the moment. My reviews on this restaurant has changed my mind so I won't be coming back here again unless... The owner responds to this post and acknowledges my concern.

Haven't been racially discriminated like this in a while. We tried out this restaurant after good reviews from people but the restaurant, despite not being that busy on a wednesday night, completely ignored us standing at the front counter waiting to be served right in front of the "please wait to be seated" sign. Their staff kept walking past us and serving customers who came after us. I really don't mind "waiting to be seated" but @Management, if you are reading this, please: 1) Train ALL your staff to acknowledge and smile at every customer that walks in 2) Train ALL your staff to simply greet every customer with a "welcome to our restaurant, someone will attend you shortly" Please don't ignore us and keep walking past us. I had to speak up and make some noise to be attended to. Again, do not mind waiting but do mind being ignored and having others coming after us being served. Australia is a mixed society, discriminating will not take you far. Oh, and the food wasn't too bad, the pasta was made in fresh hand made tomato puree that gave it good taste. Don't know why we still stuck around after being humiliated, but definitely will not be recomending this place to others
Have been many times before. Last night was terrible, made a booking to then having to wait 30mins for a table. Was told to sit outside and would be moved inside and didn’t happen. Food was over 2 hours waiting and only offered drinks on arrival. When food arrive for 2 of the 5 people it was burnt. When complained about the other 3 meals waiting an additional 30mins and watching other people who ordered after us receive their meals the food arrived drenched in oil. Went to pay for the meal over $200 later and tried to complain the response from a young rude girl said you know we are busy and you know this is a popular place to eat. I could complain to the manager. Staff seemed very rude whist the other staff seemed very stressed. Left very disappointed and will not return and suggest you don’t waste your time or money with a rudely run business and food that swims in oil with over cooked seafood.

Attended a large function last night. The service from our waitress was second to none absolutely superb. Swift, professional, responsive, sublime. The spinach gnocchi was so good, luv’d it. The antipasto was ok, but they simply didn’t have enough platters out at any given time for the number of people on such a long table, so some were being fed & others hungry for a bite. And boy were we jammed into that table with little wriggle room. The noise was more deafening than a boom boom night club & seriously my ears were ringing & head pounding from the cacophony. Announcements to our party couldn’t be heard even through a microphone. So, Don’t go for conversation… they need some serious dampeners… having said that why would they renovate when the place is packed out night after night?

The place has been around for 37+ years and it was great to return after at least 10 years! As usual the place was full and buzzing. We had a table of 5 and all agreed the food was excellent but for one who was disappointed in the Risotto! Service was pretty good, but a busy night one must expect a bit of a wait. Will return soon minus our Risotto friend !

Quite rude. Doors open, 3 patrons being served coffee. 4:40 in the afternoon with multiple staff on site. A beautiful sunny afternoon and I was waiting for my wife to finish work. When I asked for a glass of wine to sit in the alfresco area I was refused service. I clarified this was for a single glass of wine to sit for 15 minutes. When questioned the only response was that service for dinner doesn’t start until 5 pm. As an executive with the day off work, it appears that my attire of neat jeans and a T-shirt were a deciding factor of offering service.. given the three other patrons were still wearing shirts and office wear. Disappointing. Recommend giving a very wide berth the basis of that experience. Clothes do not maketh the man.. service makes the hospitality experience.

Absolutely amazing atmosphere and top-notch service from our random selection of places to dine whilst visiting Adelaide for a Leadership Academy. When it has already gone 8:00 PM and many places are winding down for the night, La Trattoria was in full swing. The four of us ordered different dishes but the verdict was unanimous...... bloody good food and great value for money. The recommended drop of Coonawarra Cabernet just rounded off the meal suburbly and I for one am hoping that a trip back there before we leave on Thursday for WA is possible.

My partner really enjoyed the meal at this restaurant. He was very happy to have eaten here and had been very impressed with the quality of the menu options. Personally I liked that my partner had such a great time. Think it’s first time he has eaten antipasto. I personally would choose a different main course, all I. All it was a fairly good meal. I would like to hear some background music playing next time I go to this restaurant. Happy this place stays open for dinner much later than anywhere else in Adelaide!

I came here with brother and my mum for her 50th birthday whilst on holiday in SA. We were staying at Tom’s Court hotel next door and decided to try it and we were amazed. I agree with the other reviews that the place sparks a feeling of nostalgia and seems untouched from their opening almost half a century ago. The service was amazing and our waiter was very engaging and funny. My mum said it was the best scotch fillet she has ever eaten. My gnocchi was definitely home made - you can tell. It was a lovely night. Thank you!

Got in early because I know this restaurant gets packed out and gets very loud. Got a nice little table inside and the gentleman that look us to our table was very polite, then the lady that served us was so friendly and cheerful, racing around making sure she was serving everyone in her section. Even though she was busy she still stopped to make a quick conversation then took our order, the meals came out within 20 mins and cooked to perfection. Eaten here a couple of times and always leave full and satisfied. Thank you for a good night team.

I drive 20 minutes to pick up their takeaway pizza- which was practically burnt and dry tonight! Had no flavour at all! Not to mention I spent $46 for 1 pizza and 2 garlic breads!!!! When I called to give them this as feedback, instead of an apology I was told it was my fault for picking up the pizza some minutes late so it was burnt! When I came to collect the order, it was in a box and ready to go. Not taken out of the oven- so ready and burnt! Very poor attitude; inconsistent food; back to supporting my local pizza places who appreciate their clients! Sad!!

A common issue I encounter with restaurants is the serving size is modest so even if the quality is delicious, it still leaves you a bit hungry. La Trattoria is the exception as meals are served in the largest serving size that I have experienced. The attached photo is evidence. There were 8 large-sized and fresh prawns in the risotto gamberi that I ordered. There were two pieces in the porterhouse steak; another example of the large serves. Service is always friendly and meals were served promptly. Quality of food and service has remained a high standard over the past decade. Thoroughly recommended!
Love La Trat! Last night we were time poor as we were going to ASO but they served our meals quickly which was very much appreciated. ThanQ muchly! This has been our favourite Italian restaurant for over 30 years...quality and deliciousness is always . Staff are great- attentive and accommodating... Mornay Oysters are just soooo good and seafood pasta is always superbly tasty.

Ordered the Marinara Pizza (the famous one that won awards) and the Mushroom Risotto. Enjoyed both very much! The pizza sauce tasted house made and very fresh, and the seafood was very fresh. However, the pizza base was just very slightly thicker than my preference - it was a little doughy, but I think this could be traditional and authentic and it’s entirely a matter of preference. The risotto was very tasty and perfectly seasoned, and it was generously peppered with mushrooms. Ambience was great, and altogether great dining experience
Very disappointing, our waiter Nick was atrocious. Asked for entrees across the table as it was a 50th birthday. He arrived with one big plate and asked us to pass it around ourselves. Maincourse, he wanted us to use our cutlery from entree. Asked for drinks, never came. Food very underwhelming. Overpriced and dirty.

The food was fabulous. However, we felt we were being served badly. When we were finished with our food, we were asked what we would want, i.e., dessert or bill. I was kind of shocked by this question, because even if I ate at a cheap restaurant in the busiest Chinatown, I was never pushed into paying the bill after I was finished with my meal. But at this restaurant, I was expecting to eat and enjoy my time because I need to pay more but ended up being pushed to leave.

Very unusual experience start to finish. My friend was forced I have a beer by the older man who works/owns it (maybe?). Anyway, I ordered the fish from the specials board. It was slimy and soggy. Vegetables had absolutely no flavour. Antipasto was okay but very overpriced. When it came to the end we couldn’t split half half on the eftpos machine. I understand itemising each food item and paying separately, but we wanted to just go halves on the Eftpos machine. I don’t see how difficult that could’ve been.
I truly felt as though I was dining in Italy! Very cozy restaurant. Lots of waiters, it seems so busy all the time but there seems to be no stress. So many tables and chairs squeezed in. Its sensational here! Thank you for the delightful pizzas, the best pizzas in Adelaide! Your chilli oil is perfect! And to top it ALL off, your tiramisu is legendary. I will travel my 1 hour car drive every day to keep eating that if I must! Thank you!

Lovely atmosphere and staff. Good points are the late working hours and outdoor seating area. We ordered several dishes and drinks. The house wine was soo good. Spaghetti with prawn was very nice, balanced and tasty. Very good chilli oil but unfortunately the pizza was such a disappointment. The toping were bland, the dough was more like store bought and lack of taste and flavour. Making a good Italian pizza dough should not be difficult for authentic Italian staff here!!
Pizza is like a burnt frozen pizza. Service was confused. Toppings were below basic. This came up as #2 In Adelaide. There must be better. Other issues with the behavior of the patrons. But that is separate from the food. Good wine list. But very self-service. Bottle on the table. Good luck. (Which is fine. Just get me the wine.)

A warm welcome, hot food and cold beer. It doesn't get much better than that. La Trattoria is like visiting mumma's place for a meal, even if you're not lucky enough to be Italian! Even in an entree size the spaghetti amatriciana was generously proportioned, flavoursome and very satisfying.

I really like this place and highly recommend it. The staff are friendly and service is fast. A good range of things on the menu to suit any budget but high quality food. Also a good drink selection. It also has a really nice vibe, very chill and stress free. Over all the stand out feature is its authentic feel and for that I will definitely be returning and recommend to anyone looking for real Italian in Adelaide CBD
An amazing and authentic experience in Italian cuisine. The staff was very professional and courteous. We were served by Ms. Elena who helped an Aussie and an Indian enjoy the best Italian cuisine and desserts, all served with a great smile, courtesy and professionalism. Thank you Elena for making the dinner and the experience a beautiful experience. Would definitely recommend and revisit when in Adelaide again.
We are staying at the hotel next door and decided to give this place a go… and we can say it’s been the best food we have had in a very, very long time. The gnocchi is to die for and the bruschetta was simple but delicious.

Been here a few times but this time decided to order the popular spaghetti marinara. My goodness! This dish is so full of flavour. The sauce has so much depth, not runny and the spaghetti absorbed all the flavours. I noticed that the seafood has been treated with care. The squids are so tender and must have been grilled before added to the dish. Just a note to self to order the main size next time.
I get around using a forearm walker as we were walking into the restuarant a Staff member pushed pass me and shoved me into a wall. So we turned around and thought "how rude" when this same staff member returns and rudely trys to push pass me again. Due to his rudeness and disrespect from their staff member I will not even eat there. Do not recommend

Just popped into one of Adelaide's most reliable and consistent restaurants and it didn't disappoint. Entree was perfect and the pizza exactly to my liking. Even the warm bread roll was a treat. Been coming here on and off for 40 years and it is still the best. Had a half and half Marinara - regular and gourmet as you can see. So delicious I barely remembered to grab a photo in time!
These guys could not do more for you. Huge beautiful fresh Italian meals, if you don't want something in the meal, they accommodate with a smile. Outdoor dining was fun and busy and our waiter was right there. We also enjoyed desserts and well priced wine. Bathrooms were clean, kitchen crazy busy, great staff and awesome atmosphere

When our pasta was served, we all stopped talking because we were too distracted by how delicious the food was! Yum!

The food was enjoyable, with a good variety of flavors. The service was attentive and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. It's definitely a place worth trying if you're in the area. The pizza, in particular, was delicious and made with quality ingredients.
Hidden gem in the southern suburbs, the food was all delicious. Highlight was the arancini and the pizza. Arancini came with 3 different flavours, the bolognaise one was huge and yum. Pizza dough was airy and light but still thick in size. Highly recommend More
