Food allergies? This is NOT the place to go. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME. The front of house staff were great and the young girl was extremely upset and apologetic - though, what happened was not in any way her fault, she tried her hardest. We specifically stayed in the Blue Mountains to go to THIS restaurant for husband's birthday. I even sent an email 3 weeks beforehand to ask for a list of dairy-free dishes to choose from to make it easy for the kitchen staff. (Still no reply from anyone). After finally finding the place, it turns out that this is not a stand alone restaurant (it's part of the lawn bowls club). We were given menus and left for 20 minutes before orders were taken. Husband got us drinks from the bowling club bar - the restaurant does not serve even soft drinks. We finally placed our order. As usual, I advised that I'm allergic to all animal dairy products, and asked if the lady could double check there's no dairy in the Kung Pow prawn dish I ordered. Apparently, there is. Trying again, I ordered chicken chow mein - there's dairy in that too? I was given a menu again and wrote a list of about 6 dishes - all of which apparently contain milk or cream. IN A CHINESE RESTAURANT? I asked if there was something the chef could recommend that DOESN'T contain dairy... nope. THE OWNER SENDS A MESSAGE BACK WITH THE YOUNG FLOOR MANAGER THAT EVERYTHING HAS DAIRY AND THEY WILL NOT BE SERVING ME ANYTHING. AT ALL. I WILL NOT BE EATING THERE. By this time, we have been sitting for nearly an hour, husband has just been served his entree of spring rolls, and his main of fried rice and satay chicken. Can I get a bowl of plain boiled rice? NO. Steamed vegetables? NO. A piece of plain, pan fried chicken? NO. NOTHING AT ALL. Husband's comments on his food are as follows: spring rolls had no flavour to them - can buy better from the freezer section of any supermarket. The fried rice was okay, until he got to the middle part which was overly salty with MSG (it appears to have not been mixed in... at all). The satay chicken tasted only of curry powder and MSG - which overpowered the chicken. There was no peanut flavour to the satay sauce at all. This is probably the worst Chinese food we have ever had anywhere in the world. It's certainly the worst restaurant experience I've ever had anywhere in the world. In speaking with the 17 year old front of house manager while she was clearing the tables around us, she did mention that the ownership had changed hands in the preceding week "out of nowhere" and that it was the new owner who was refusing to serve me BECAUSE of my food allergy. The new owner refused to see me herself (not that I asked, but the young manager did) to explain why I was not being served. As someone who has been cooking Asian food for over 30 years, there is very little Asian food which uses animal dairy products - most milk/cream used is non-dairy. I feel sorry for the front of house staff who will have to go through the same routine for everyone who discloses a food allergy. Not all patrons are going to be nice about it. I wouldn't be surprised if this new ownership is the beginning of the end for Lawson Chinese.

Saw Vincent and his post of Facebook for a while now and his food looks quite interesting. Always wanted to try but the thought of driving an hour to try just doesn’t quite cut it. Today, finally we are going to Blue Mountain for a quite getaway and stopped by Lawson for lunch.. the chance of trying the food is finally here As you know, it’s in a lawn bowl club. Easy to find. Service was good and food came out quite quickly. Decent portion and price is good comparing to Sydney price Let’s talk about food. We ordered - Hot and sour soup: nice soup, but too much tomato sauce to my liking and a little bit too salty - sweet and sour pork: pork is tender but the sauce is too artificial. Need to be more authentic given you guys are from Asia. - hot and spicy calamari: batter is light and fluffy and calamari is tender. Almost perfect but again, too much salt. - combination chow mien: decent noodle, could be better - crispy skin chicken: meat too dry and again salty… Would have loved to try the rest but maybe next time

We have attended Lawson chinese on two different occasions and it has been a nice little find in the mountains. Across both occasions, we chose the satay chicken, sizzling mongolian beef, garlic prawns, singapore fried noodles, spring rolls and steamed dim sim. We really liked the flavours of the satay chicken and mongolian beef. With the other meals being ok. All dishes were generous serving sizes and come out relatively quickly after being ordered. The prices were also cheap for what they offered. Being located within the bowling club meant that there was easy access and the drinks were cheap. The staff were very polite. Would recommend for an asian meal if travelling through the mountains.

Stopped by here a second time this year, after receiving great service and great chow mein the first time. This time, the chow mein was great as usual, however both the beef with black pepper sauce and the deep fried duck portions were quite small. The beef tasted great, however the deep fried duck with peking sauce was very very dry, completely lacking flavour, and the sauce did taste like a blend of tomato sauce and something else. I'm not sure whether it is catered towards the predominantly white, older demographic of the Blue Mountains, or whether it just was a one-off dodgy meal, but this really soured the mood of me and my mates.

I got to meet the brother of a little bit of Yum Yum, Marcus and his beautiful partner. This whole family are going to be superstars. I like to think I'm a good judge of character and I can see big things happening for Marcus, another superstar in the making like his brother. Told us about the Japanese Crepe truck that they have done, can't wait till it heads on over to the Castle Hill Night markets. Food was fantastic, highly recommend. If these guys ever start their own restaurant, watch out.

Wow I think my expectations were likely a little high due to so many recommendations. Sadly well below what I could have even imagined. I'm pretty sure cornflour as a thickening agent is not supposed to be used by the kilo in one dish. I almost feel bad telling you all how terrible this was although the curry was actually not bad, although I wouldn't go so far as to say it was good. To the chef please rediscover your passion ffs. I felt embarrassed paying almost theft

The place was a bit hot due to the afternoon sun shining across the restaurant. Although they had sun shade.. you can really feel the heat. The food was your typical Australian Chinese restaurant. We had the sweet and sour pork, Mongolian beef and honey chicken. Taste wise was ok and was freshly cooked and hot. There were a lot of flies flying around which did not add to the experience.

So we have been going to Lawson Chinese for a while now and was the best Chinese in the mountains. They have recently “renovated” and now their menu lacks any of the normal dishes, they won’t do black bean, no Singapore noodles, no prawn cutlets. So Lawson Chinese has one less customer who pumped in $80 a week. Silly decision by the chef that will lead to less customers. Try Canton palace at Wenty or Katoomba or Leura Chinese if you are up this way.

I tried Lawson Chinese Restaurant and it was a cute Chinese restaurant inside Lawson Bowling Club. The restaurant had the typical suburban country style Chinese style vibes. We ordered the Satay Chicken which was nice, the chicken was so tender and the satay sauce was good. The chicken chow mein was nice as well. The ginger and shallot fish fillet was not bad, it was lacking in flavour. Overall our dinner was nice, but I cannot say that I'd rush back any time soon to drive all way to eat there again.

Home of the Wok God! Yep bought most items he has put on his YouTube shorts, and I must say, it's "just like take out" . Super enjoyed my lunch and tried the others as well, so we ordered from the lunch menu which comes with rice, Mongolian Beef, SweetnSour Pork and Satay Chicken, entree was fried Dim Sim and Spring Rolls. Very tasty dishes, enjoyed it with the family, a must try just off the main highway so definitely get down there.

I hadn't eaten Chinese for over 25 years after loads of bad experiences with allergies. My husband convinced me to try Lawson (it took years!) and I'm so glad I did. I'm now a regular the past couple of years and I absolutely love it. The only Chinese restaurant I trust to use quality ingredients. They listen to their customers and are really friendly and polite. In fact I'm going there tonight and was just looking up their opening time.

  • Fiona McLean

Our dishes weren't removed after eating so I had to take them back to the kitchen. What I saw shocked me. Par-cooked food sitting on the bench and woks left on with no one around. Food left on tables - the staff had just walked away and left it. In addition the kitchen was filthy. How no one has got salmonella poisoning is just pure luck.

Waitress cleaning off dirty tables serviettes then picks up clean cutlery without washing hands. Got order wrong. Each dish placed on table without fork or spoon to serve it. Had to use our own used cutlery to dish out. Apparently under new management. Have been here many times over the years but never again. I'll travel further. Happy Birthday to me.

I've never been a big take away person, but after going to Lawson Chinese I realize that I've been missing out. Their menu is amazing. Every time I've been there the staff have been absolutely perfect and accommodating. I urge people who haven't been there before to give it a go and try their Honey Chicken and Fried Rice. I'm currently ordering over the phone now for dinner. Thanks Guys!

Food was delicious, i can handle the wait because they were quite busy. The delivery of meals was poor. Entrees okay, then one main, then soup then second main. Once all meals served, fried rice came half hour later? Do Chinese restaurants not understand how we like our meals served???

Some of the best Chinese I’ve ever had. Our new go too. Don’t let the fact it’s in a bowling club throw you off. Often it’s hard to tell what a good Chinese restaurant is like because every dish seems the same. Not this Chinese. They serve familiar meals but maintain its own uniqueness. Highly recommend the satay & the spring roles.

Would have given 5 stars if it was the same dishes from their Tik Tock videos. The menu is catered to non Chinese customers which i understand for the area it’s in. The star wasn’t there either. All good still. BTW it’s part of the lawn bowling club. Took a moment to understand where exactly it was. No sign out the front.

Food was enjoyable. Friendly Wait staff need to be trained to take plates when all eaters have finished! A whole table of dishes, bowls etc stayed on our table while we chatted after our meals? We could have had a friendly photo (no food required) taken of the group and didn't due to the messy table.
