The club resides in the former NY Health & Racket Club space in the old Carl Fisher building, and while the old NY Health & Racket space was quite a step above the typical (i.e., disgusting) NYC gym, Life Time's management vastly improved on the old NYHRC gym. This Life Time location, along with its larger sister at W. 23rd Street, are the two nicest gym facilities I've used or seen in New York City. (Most gyms in New York are dumps (e.g., Crunch, New York Sports); including at least one gym that was once wonderful (i.e., David Barton on Astor Place which was acquired by New York Sports and subsequently -- inexplicably --commoditized into a typical, rundown, NYC gym.) I have been to Equinox gyms (including the large Bond Street facility) and while they appear superficially upscale, it's easy to tell that real money isn't spent on anything except the lease payments. If you want a truly upscale (e.g., clean AND luxurious) gym experience, Life Time Cooper Square is the real thing. (The bathrooms and lockers are a model of cleanliness and luxury (indeed, most New Yorkers don't have equal facilities in their own homes) and the beautiful sauna facilities are private.) In addition, the staff is helpful and friendly, and the training is high quality. I agree with other posters that it is a small footprint, but it has every machine any gym rat would need except a pool, and there are very few of them in Manhattan. If you absolutely must have a larger club the next best options are W. 23rd Street or the forthcoming Park Avenue South location. I understand that some people simply cannot afford the extra cost of a Life Time membership, but it is incomprehensible why anyone who can afford the fees would remain at any of the gyms in the same (expensive) neighborhood. My only suggestion for LifeTime is it buy a couple of acres somewhere in the Hamptons and open a large club there.

I had been a member of New York Health and Racquet Club for years, so I was already familiar with the Cooper Square location. When NYHRC went out of business, they offered members the option of rolling their remaining membership over to the Life Time Gym at the same location. I figured in a year, when my membership was up, I would just find another less luxurious gym. So when my year was almost up at Life Time Gym, I started to check out other gyms in the city and I was absolutely horrified by what was out there. Gyms in windowless basements. Wait time to use equipment. Trying to register for classes that are already full a week in advance. Dirty workout spaces. Old equipment. Locker rooms where almost every locker had a lock on it yet the gym was almost empty. Lockers the size of a shoe box. Life Time Gym is on the higher end price wise but the space is huge and filled with sunlight. (I understand this is one of the smaller locations) I have never had to wait for equipment. I have never had a problem registering for a class. The locker rooms are spotless. The lockers are huge and there are tons of them! And the gym staff, the management and the instructors... Absolutely the nicest people in New York! Friendly, helpful, pleasant and positive! Believe me I did my research and you will not find a nicer place to work out. No, it’s not the cheapest gym in New York but it’s definitely the best and worth the price. If I’m going to work out, I want to be in a place where I feel good and I’m happy to be there.

This lifetime location has to be the worst by far!!! For starters the size of this place is smaller then your local planet fitness, no kind of amenities whatsoever. The manger working the front desk is probably the most unprofessional person I’ve spoke with in any lifetime club. I’ve been a member for 4+ years now and apparently they have different rates at that location which is absurd. If you have a diamond membership don’t expect to actually have access to every club, clubs like this one seem too look down at you as if 180 a month wasn’t already high. I tried entering this location as a outta state visitor with a grace pass which all members should be given, And the manager must’ve not liked the idea of letting me in. I also contacted the sky location right after and asked about their policy about grace visits and they confirmed that you are allowed one at every club. He then somehow convinced the sky location that the policy is 1 per city which is absurd. Never going to this location again!!!!

Life Time really has a lot to improve on to come close to being a premium gym. Not only was my “onboarding session” not what was advertised after being contacted multiple times to schedule it (they said ‘In this session, we'll discuss your goals, answer any questions about the club or equipment, and provide you with a personalized plan. We'll also try a sample workout, so come dressed in comfortable fitness attire.’) My session was just a quick chat & in-body measurements. Asked a question about compression equipment but never heard back. Today I asked for a spare hair tie and it doesn’t exist at the gym!! Even tiny studios provide as simple as a hair tie for the customer’s convenience. Don’t usually leave such negative reviews but for what you charge, need to deliver above average service.

Overall a pretty solid gym I had really big hopes considering this lifetime is the newest in Manhattan, so I was a bit bummed that it was a lot smaller than I expected. Everything feels a bit cramped and it feels more like a hotel gym. However all the machines and weights are brand new and the gym isn't crowded during peak hours right now. I came in at 7 and was able to get a great workout in without having to wait for anything. The front desk staff are really friendly and welcoming. One thing I do love is how accessible this lifetime is to get to using the subway. It's a great gym and perfect for when you want a change of scenery from the lifetimes at sky and 23rd street.

I trialed 4 gyms in the area and this was my favorite. Excellent classes taught by engaging/fun instructors, SUPER clean facilities (every time I’ve taken a shower, I notice it is cleaned pretty quickly after), brand new equipment, and a friendly/inclusive environment. It is worth spending a little extra if you’re motivated to go! (Plus 2 free guest passes each month - must be different guests, but a nice addition so a friend can join every now and then). Yes this location is smaller but has everything you need, plus some! Bonus: Boba tea next door, Citibike station right across that always had open docks and good bikes, and usually live music in Cooper Square…great vibes!

In general, this New York City location of Lifetime Fitness is smaller in size compared to most of their facilities. It includes amenities like a sauna in the shower area. The members who frequent this gym tend to be younger, typically in their twenties to late thirties. Unlike some other branches, they don't provide free access to massage guns; you need to request a coach to assist you with it, which I find quite unusual. Interestingly, this gym used to be a New York Racquet Club, and it's conveniently located just around the corner from Astor Place.

Went there on Sunday evening since I was in the neighborhood. Use the dumbo location which is great. This is a particularly small gym which was not necessarily a bad thing since it was not crowded - but I imagine would be tough prime time. That being said the front desk was very inexperienced and seemed to lack professionalism. The locker room was a mess and the sauna did not look cared for. Compared to like Equinox product in the neighborhood this one was by far inferior. Lifetime seems to vary my location and this one is not a highlight

This gym is gross and way overpriced. There is no upkeep whatsoever, the wipes to clean the machines are ALWAYS empty, same with the toilet paper, paper towel and soap in the change room. Half of the lockers don’t work becuase the locks are broken. The showers are DISGUSTING… do they ever get cleaned? How is this considered a premium gym that they charge over $200 per month for Save your money if you’re looking for a nice gym

A predatory nightmare - beware the "free trial." The woman here acted like it was the 1990s and she could trick you into signing up for a membership by telling you it's a health and safety release form. Came in for the free-day trial and she charged for a $159 membership, and now it's a big pain in the a** to get the money back. Shady, shady, shady. Shame because it's a nice gym, but not when you try to pull sh** like that.

Worked with April to get set up here at Lifetime. She is by far one of the most wonderful people I’ve worked with in a long time. She was helpful and kind and really made the Lifetime experience worthwhile. I am so excited to keep working out here and to see Lifetime develop its presence in NYC. The facilities are fabulous and super clean. Highly recommend.

Has seriously gone down hill since opening. Not cared for and the cleanliness is terrible. Last straw for me was worms in the shower and the staff said “it was not a cleanliness issue”. I’m not going to wait around until they figure out what the issue is. Much worse than other lifetime locations.

First of all your facilities are beyond up to par. During my visit I interacted with one of your employees Lauren and she had the greatest attitude and worked so professionally I just wanted to take some time and show some appreciation for this company and their employees! Thank you Lauren!

The men’s sauna has been in total disarray since summer 2023. I don’t think it has ever been deep cleaned and the floorboards are broken and there are exposed nails. This is a hazard. Staff are friendly but the mismanagement is embarrassing.

I love Life Time! This location is perfect for a quick workout. You have everything you could need. It is not crowded during peak hours. You can get the machine or weights you want with no problem. Overall, great location!

It's clean and machines are new, but because all the equipment are new, there's a very strong rubber/plastic smell in the air. Sensitive people might not enjoy the experience as much. Otherwise it's great.

I never ever leave reviews but Rafael’s handling of the front desk is truly one of the most incompetent displays of professionalism I have ever witnessed. Again, I never post. Do better.

Men’s sauna has been broken on more than half my visits over the past 4 months. When members are paying $220/month for a gym with one amenity, it should be a major priority

Love this location ! Very clean quiet and friendly, the staff were very professional. This was my first time working out here I usually go to the sky location.

Clean gym, never too crowded, no wait for machines. Docking a star because it’s too quiet in there.
