Please be warned, this place blatantly sells expired food! Like FOUR YEARS expired!! Like many people reading this, I don't normally review places. I expect most stores and restaurants to be generally acceptable and to at the very least practice some form of safe food handling. I thought Lion Market was another decent Asian grocery store along the lines of 99 Ranch. However, I was proved shockingly wrong today and feel I have to warn any other potential customer about Lion Market's unsafe, deceptive practices! I purchased a box of pineapple cakes which were on sale. After I paid, one of the employees stopped me from taking the item, questioning the manager on duty. After some back and forth with the manager in a Chinese dialect I didn't understand, she let me leave with the cakes. When I asked the cashier what was happening, she told me that the sale price had seemed too low, so they wanted to check with the manager. Fine, I get it. I left with the box of cakes. When I got home and opened the box, lo and behold, I saw the expiration date: 2016.10.27!!! These cakes have been expired for nearly FOUR YEARS!!! I have absolutely no doubt that the manager and Lion Market's owners knew exactly that and put the items on sale knowing that the product was expired. Based on the other reviews I've seen, Lion Market has had an ongoing practice of selling expired products.

This Lion supermarket is typically reliable in providing products at prices usually justifiable by quality and quantity. We've had many good trips at this location with only the last trip being a bit disappointing. We found mochi snacks apparently offered for a deal (2 for $3), only to be charged $7.16 for four. When I showed the signage to the manager, she said those prices were for a different product...a product nowhere to be found or that "just sold out." To meet customer demand, the store replenished the mochi supply with a new product and charged a higher price without updating price labels. Two things: absence of a product prompts removal of the old price labels, and putting a new product to fill in the void requires new price labels. When I brought this up, the manager seemed very hesitant in removing the old signage and price labels, and I don't know if she had intentions of putting up new ones. Overall, being charged slightly extra didn't bother me as much as the deceitful practice of luring customers with false prices, then hesitantly or begrudgingly fixing the issue.

Didn't like their service so haven't been back for a few years. Recently shopped there, I liked the huge variety of soy bean products, seafood esp. the frozen small red shrimp (so good!), meat, and sauces. The price was quite good. While the workers were polite, the cashier I dealt with was unfriendly and unhelpful. Note that they don't help you bag at all. She just stood there looking at you busy packing your $185 worth of goods, while you had to ask her to pass the one item you can't reach. How convenient and exemplary! The tradition of no service is carrying on. The store is the same old layout with minimum cleanliness. I'll come back whenever I want to get my anti-wrinkle beef tendon.

Shaaawing!!!! This place is fantastic!!! Live fish, live crab, live clams, fresh fish, fresh and I do mean fresh, meat. Tons of great veggies, fresh Tofu, Fresh Vietnamese Phò noodles and everything you need to make Phò, Chinese, Japanese,Vietnamese and even some Mexican and American stuff yup, yup , yup they got it. This place has the most amazing items for sale and at great prices (no wonder you can’t find a place in the parking lot to park) simply a fantastic place to shop and get groceries. I ended up buying some Phò bowls and spoons as well as noodles, Hoisin sauce, dessert crackers, chili garlic paste and even found a bottle of Sriracha Mayo. Highly recommend this place to all.

I made a few purchases recently at this market, and found the price of vegetables and other groceries were competitive, however after check out, I checked my receipts and found they charged the wrong prices for some items, i. e. charge 2 when I only bought 1, charge $2.99 per pound with a totally different vegetable instead of the one I bought which was marked as $0.69 per pound, charge the wrong price of $2.49 when it was marked as $1.49. This happened every time when I did shopping here with different cashiers. I don't know whether they did this purposely, please check your receipt and not just trust the price they marked.

Nice selections of leafy vegetables and all others. Very good selections of tea as well. Items are all lined up nicely on shelves. Saw workers keep tidying up items constantly on a weekday. Floors are kept very clean, not normally seen from Asian markets. At seafood section, even though fishes are cleaned and processed, I don't smell much, another aspect much better than other Asian markets. You can find many items coming from countries with higher food safety standards. You know what I mean. This will be my Asian food shopping place from now on.

Wife told me again to throw the meat away but I insisted that I visit Lion City supermarket to get the refund of foul pork meat I bought just 20 minutes earlier. Special effects of light on the meat make it look reddish and fresh, but the true color is revealed after you bring it home and cut it open. The meat is sticky and discolored. It smells bad when cut. Got refunded after some hassles with no apologies. I will report this to the authorities to investigate them since they have done it for a long time. Will NEVER buy food there!!!

Lion market should checking which vegetables are too old for sale ,some vegetables customers cannot see inside but you the one who know how long time it has sat with your??? This was 3 times for me now first time it was pomegranates ,second was watermelon and this was the 3 times it was $7 for that in the pictures. (oh!! customer service I never expect from you because your employees they don 't want to say anythings even "Thank you"word I'm customer who had to say thank you back to them ) honestly.

The seafood is from Asian countries and not sure how old it is. Since it's frozen, it looks fresh & firm. Some of the fish after its thawed, it stinks rotten. Initially this place was my go to place for fish. But now I prefer to buy frozen ones from Walmart. I like to get Chinese vegetables, coconut milk & noodles from here. They have a huge supply of Asian ingredients. Not a well kept place. The place is dirty, smells & too cold inside. I still go there, as it's convenient for me for a quick stop.

Excellent place to find rare Asian grocery items that may not be available in your regular chains. There is a very large range of items that you can find here, though you may not be able to find many alternative brands for a each. The prices are very reasonable to boot. P.s: here’s a tip to save money, the next time you are about to buy something from a Whole Foods, check if your local Asian store stocks it, you could save upwards of 90% on the cost.

I have never really been in the store before. Went there looking for mooncakes. And that was a little bit overwhelming because there was such a large variety. I was impressed by the freshness of their vegetables. I was like a kid in a candy store. There are so many things I wish I could have bought and made at home. The next time I go I have to plan ahead with a recipe , at least, so I shop for specific things.

  • A D

I really wish if this place would not smell like fish all the time. But it is what it is. I will tell you that this place is one of the most reasonable grocery shopping places I have ever known. I like the variety of vegetables, meat, noodles, liquor, other packed food items, groceries etc. they have included in their inventory. This place might smell like fish but it really carry fresh seafood and fish.

  • C. V. V.

I had to change my last review from 5 stars to 3 stars. I would even go all the way down to 2 stars, but that's kinda mean. There's old stuff everywhere and most employees are rude; it's sad to see. This place clearly needs a new manager because it's going downhill. Last time I got an expired peanut butter jar and they didn't even apologize. I'm sorry, but this is the truth of this supermarket now.

  • Vittorio Suter

A lot of great and high quality Asian products. Just bear in mind that LION Supermarkets emphasize the market portion. Don't expect it to be spotless or odor free especially in the seafood section...on some days you'll smell meat and fish as soon as you enter. But that shouldn't take away from the good, fresh, and quality items Remember, it's LION Market. So, know what you're entering.

  • JR McKee

Lion Market has great produce, their fruit and vegetables are pretty good. I've talked to many customers who buy their seafood here and they tell me it's good but I'm not that brave. The selection of Asian products is extensive, don't expect to walk in and find the equivalent of a Safeway, meaning this is primarily Asian food with a very modest selection of what you'd expect at Safeway.

  • Vivian Chen

Personally, I prefer this Lion Market than other locations. It has the most fresh veggies to choose from at reasonable price. Recently, they packed chives in much smaller quantities which make much more sense. The items came from Asia have been much more expensive compared with two years ago. The other grocery stores also have to raise the price to cover for higher import expenses.

  • Heading West

Primarily Asian Supermarket with good prices, especially for vegetables, dry ingredients and sauces. I have noticed that occasionally they have had some problems with their dairy, meat and fish refrigerators which result in fairly large sections of the market temporarily closed and unreachable. This has happened more times then I care to remember. Otherwise worth checking out.

  • Mini Rag

Unlike some Chinese supermarkets, Lion is clean and not quite as stuffed. Vegetables here are fresh on most days. The meat selection is good, seafood selection is unremarkable. The market can get really busy, try to visit during non normal hours. During cooler weather, bring your snow jacket as it will be super cold in the store!

  • Robin C

Asian market with lots of variety. They have many of my favorite Korean snacks and other Asian delicacies, mostly Chinese. Largest selection of alternative/vegan meat products in the area. Prices are reasonable and cashiers were friendly. Smaller than some of the other markets in the area but they still have a great selection.

  • Mahalia Lee

Very bad customer services! We brought our bag to shop at this store, the cashier didn't want to bag for us. The manager even totally ignored what happened. Since no one bagged for us, we got to return all the items we shopped. They all speak Vietnamese, we cannot understand at all. We will not shop at this store anymore.

  • E

Very large selection of Asian specialty food items. The checkout lines can be very slow and parking can be tight at the busy times of day. They do not have much, or maybe any, organic products. If you are looking for hard to find Asian specialty items this is your best bet. For anything else, I would choose another store.

  • Aly w

The Worst grocery shopping experience ever! I was trying to buy some discount items on the shelf and when I at the checkout, the item showed original price, and I asked for the discount price but the cashier said can’t get me the price that they put on the shelf. And the staffs were very rude and no apology afterward.

  • Cynthia Bloch

I like Lion. They have great prices for much of their produce, but I'm not always happy with the freshness of some items, such as their green beans. They have a fantastic selection of rice. as well as ingredients such as soy sauce, vinegar, gochujang, etc. They also get tofu every day from the San Jose Tofu Company.

  • soldier3335

Lion Market is a great place to get seafood. You can literally pick a fish from the tank and they will filet it for you. They have some of the freshest seafood I have seen, and we always get oysters from here to barbecue. Its an Asian type store, so you will find everything you need if your asian I guess …

  • kimi k.

Great Asian food grocery store. Reasonably priced vegetables, meat and fish. There are many kinds of vegetables in particular. It is very interesting because there are many foods that I have never seen or eaten. There are many kinds of tea and sweets and it is very interesting,I shop here with excitement.

  • Hannah Morales-Wheeler

Good place to get Asian produce and food products. Meat and fish section is quite large, with live fish and free cleaning and frying available at certain times. Shelves and aisles can be quite crowded and stacked with a variety of products. It makes it feel like a treasure hunt sort of an experience.

  • S Raj

Good store to buy asian groceries. I would sometimes just walk there from home. Had a good fish stall where they would cut clean and fry fish for you. I brought noodles, baked goods, rice, lots of different fresh fruits, sauces here. Good price, sometimes has language barrier but good staff. Try it.

  • Anabella Zuluaga

If you want to find some vegetables, difficult to find or expensive in other American or Hispanic grocery stores, this place is fabulous to get some of them, especially herbs! Also, if you like fish, this is a place to get variety. It's not very clean, that's why I don't give it the 5 stars.

  • ambikaa portel1

I love the store to go get the coffe noodels But I hate the people working there...They are so rude..Always Have to wait 15/20 minet just to pay for 3 items...No cashier...They never answer Whatever you ask..So mean...They treat you like you taking free food …

  • Elina Dyo

Good variety of asian products. Nice seafood section. It’s good they offer deep frying services for the fish you buy, but I wouldn’t do it again. No salt or spices. Big variety of noodles, spices, veggies, snacks, etc. sales taxes are included in their prices, too.

  • Edwin Portier

  • Grisha L

Fantastic place to find all of your east Asian groceries as well as western. They also have a crazy produce section that's really affordable. The seafood and butcher section in the back has so many fresh selections. One of my favorite groceries close to home

  • Dhanashankar V

Chinese grocery store. Sells fresh fish and frozen meat. The vegetables are fresh most of the times. But sometimes you do see rotten stuff. I did not like the frozen fish I bought. Does not accept American Express cards. Does not have many organic offerings.

  • tom Wu

Be careful about item expiration date for each purchase, they do sale items that have already been expired, and they have terrible custom service when you deal with returning those items after purchasing those already expired items. Stay away from this shop.

  • Paul Steinau

It's an Asian grocery store, so understand that they won't have everything a Safeway would have going in. Good selection of food and produce if you're making Asian cuisine, so I'll stop in occasionally to pick up things that they don't carry at Safeway.

  • Jemelee Melendres

This Lion market has tropical fruits like jackfruit, rambutan, manila mangos, young coconut, lychee, papaya and more. There's also a good selection of South East Asian foods and snacks that's hard to find in other grocery stores. Weekends are crowded!

  • Steven Le

Good place to pick up Asian groceries. Pricing for most of everything here is good. You will lots of ingredients for Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Philipinno cousins and delicacies. Parking can be dicey from 3-7 pm as people go out to shop for foods.

  • Ben Falter

Pretty big sized pan-Asian grocery store. Has a nice selection of fresh produce some that was pre-bagged for your convenience. Clean uncluttered isles, accepts credit card. Every time I've looked for an item given specific brands it's been here.

  • Miher

I will never ever go to this place again. The person at the live counter is yelling at me for no reason..the old guyz r very bad and very very rude.... Never go to the old guyz at the live sea food section. Bad bad place. The old guyz are

Located at the corners of HWY-280 and Saratoga, it's easily accessible via the highway or local streets from Santa Clara, Sunnyvale or Cupertino. It's a Vietnamese Chinese run Asian grocery chain resembling Ranch 99 or Marina Market. They

  • Fae LeDawson

A solid Asian grocery store. Good fruit and veggie selection and lots of seafood. Medium frozen selection and a few fresh baked buns in the bread aisle. Not as good as a full 99 Ranch in SoCal, but still covers 85% of what you'd ever want.

  • Hollywood

I shop here only because they have things I need for the Thai and Filipino cooking my Wife and I enjoy. The staff, particularly one old man behind the fish counter are almost always rude and condescending, and I feel uncomfortable being

vegetables there are always fresh but not the meat. I got chicken there, and never again, we all got sick . Employees don't know we're the things. If you are looking for something in specific, just look around yourself . …

Great market to purchase Asian sauces, noodles, and similar. Check out the FRESH fish section in the back. You select the fish and the staff will clean it. You can have it packaged for take home or have it deep-fried on-site.

  • Vincent L

This is our favorite place to get Chinese groceries. The price is mostly lower than other Chinese supermarkets, and the location is great - just off The Saratoga Ave exit of 280. But don’t expect much on service here though.

  • Siqi Bai

Terrible customer service. Was trying to return a bad durian, the manager took a look and said it is a good durian. I have being eating durian for 20 year and can definitely tell if if a good one or bad one. 售后服务非常差,再也不来了。

  • Zether Ull

Hey,lions is really cool. You can always find really interesting stuff at great prices. & they have a cool fish market in there, not much variety in a regular supermarket. & if you like Asian food, it's a must to go to!

  • Z Q

This grocery store sells relatively low price items with compared to Ranch 99.But, since its customers are less wealthy, its meat and some other things are selling not so fast. Some items' freshness is a concern to me。

  • Christopher Defayette

This place is not bad I mostly shop there for food that I make dog treats for my dog like chicken feet and duck feet and pig ears and pig tails. The staff is not the friendly at all they just give you blank stares .

Place is great and has lots of parking as well. It's great having a Asian market like this cause it's hard to find certain ingredients to cook. I just wish they had more varieties

  • Sam K

For me, Lion is better than Ranch 99 in term of cleanliness and store display but still the aisle is very narrow and tight. They interesting vegetables and frozen durian

  • Franka Siewe

Very satisfied with the care I received from this clinic. Everyone in the clinic was very patient and carrying especially dr Lech. The front desk lady was wanderful.

  • Craig Fisk

It's in there for sure. Might take a couple of days to inspect everything, sort of the opposite of Trader Joe's. Fish selection is huge - frozen, fresh, or swimming.

  • Kaidi Zhang

Prices are cheaper than other chinese grocery stores in the bay area. A bit of crowded. Plenty of parking. They usually have stuff close to best by date on sale.

  • Pat Wong

Nice place to shop for Chinese groceries and fresh vegetables. Since it's just on the other side of the freeway to Mitsuwa, convenient to stop at both stores.

  • Evelyn Hui

Lots of choices for fish, meat, oriental vegetables and food products. Price is reasonable. They carry Tong Ho when it is not available from other stores.
