We've been coming here for a couple months, now that things are opening up, post-CoVid. Cheryl's 10:30am Storytime for preschoolers is the best!!! I bring my 4 year old and my almost 7 year old, since he's homeschooling. He tends to be on the non-particapatory side of things even though he's very bright, but whatever it is about her and her storytime, he really gets into it and enjoys himself. The storytime tends to be about an hour long, which is great for us because we're often running late. She always picks a theme, a letter of the day and works it into the songs, stories, crafts at the end, etc. She will often bring props of some sort and involves the kids so there's plenty of interactive play and physical activity. Her storytimes are very well thought-out and well-planned. I'm so impressed. I like the library itself too, though I sometimes find their layout confusing and end up behind a desk where I don't belong. They have a decent play-area and little reading nooks that I can fit into to peruse books against the back wall. I also like that their educational DVDs for kids are separated so I can quickly grab a bunch that look interesting. They have puzzles to check out, which are great as well.
Witnessed a woman of color (with her kids) being harassed by a old white man who lost something. He didn’t even say anything to her before looking and reaching into one of her bags beside her. She was SO polite and asked him if he needed something. When he said he had lost his stuff she reassured him that the bags were hers and her kids and that’s when I jumped in and said I have been sitting here 2 hours and she was already working on her stuff. When I sat down I didn’t see anything that was left. MYbe you should ask the librarians?” And he said “they don’t know anything about anything”. I was already on my way out but I let the woman know I was letting the front staff know so she could finish her work in peace. The staff were as horrified as me. But I told them that maybe he did need assistance. We can talk about the vulnerability of our elders and how they lose things another day but going up to a person of color and looking into their bags is a sign of entitlement that I’m not down with and I’m glad that the staff here aren’t either.
Awful experience. They have an ad in the NM KIDS magazine Mar-Apr 2014 that they have an Origami Club there. So our kids and their friends wanted to go. We called that morning to check that it was still scheduled. They said yes, we drove there and they said, "Oh we don't do that anymore." We spoke to a manager so that they can pull their ad and also educate staff to not tell people they have events that are no longer scheduled. The manager was an idiot and said, "Well, I can't do anything about that." I suggested she can train staff and can speak to someone to pull the ad, but she said that wasn't her job. This was after we drove an hour and had a car full of disappointed kids. THANKS FOR NOTHING. YET ANOTHER GREAT EXAMPLE OF MY TAX DOLLARS AT WORK.
Really good libary but their is a worker/staff that works their and she is very rude to me and my children. Example: when my daughter was put the books were you return it she was doing one at a time and the worker in the front got mad and pulled it away from my daughter and then she let go because I said leave her alone so the worker let go of the book and it hit my daughet in the lip. I had a really bad experience
I thought people weren't supposed to talk out loud in the library. I go there frequently. Trying to concentrate to read or work on the computer is next to impossible because of the staff and people talking out loud. I have to wear earbuds and play quiet music but that doesn't even drown it out. I've had to take tests and can't focus because of the noise level.
Are you guys open at 10 11 or 12? Seems like everytime I come here it is different. Why do i get automated calls about my holds at 9 am that tell me the library is open at 10am only to see a sign on the door that says 11am and the website says noon?
I enjoy this library a lot and I am glad we are so close to it. I love that they have so many weekly activities including knitting and baby story time. Great selection on books as well.
Went to a meet and mingle game day. We played scrabble. Had a great time. It is a great idea that they do this! Next month on the 17 th, they will be making tile coasters …
Beautiful building. Excellent facilities and personnel. Lots of computers and friendly staff. Live performances. Summer reading programs. Wonderful place to drop by.
Everything you'd want from your public library. you can always request books to be sent to this location. They also have plenty of mid week activities for children.
Closed. Not sure why any of the libraries are closed on a Monday. Especially when people don't have internet and need to do their business on the next work week.
Helpful staff and awesome views of the mountains make this one of the city’s best kept secrets. Ample video selection and children’s area make it even better
