"A fantastic day out"
Biggin Hill Aerodrome and surrounding village bore the brunt of Germany's 1940 Luftwaffe raids during the Battle of Britain; a piece of history that helped shaped what this country is today. A reminder that aviation in the UK is essential to growth or as they say in Latin 'Ab-Initio, Verimus-Caelum' which means 'from the very beginning, to high in the sky'. And you cannot get any higher than the wartime Biggin Hill Aerodrome which I give my personal score of 10/10 and my Gold Star for Excellence. The modern day it is known as Biggin Hill Airport. The airport is quite clinical, one area for the public (which is only at the cafe) and a hundred yards + from the main airport entrance and the other for the aviation community which is by strict gated access and in review is like a class system. A Great Disappointment on my visit there today and my first visit to Biggin Hill (the 18th February 2018); it was like a flat pancake; I'm sure they have their reasons but they really do need to work on their public relations. My advice is if you are planning to visit biggin hill airport; "fly in", as you won't get in otherwise. A great disappointment bearing in mind I specialise in aviation reviews. If you are an aviation enthusiast, my personal advice is to email biggin hill airport during the week and try to arrange access so at least you have a chance of access; likewise the biggin hill heritage hangar is by appointment only and also requires pre-booking otherwise you won't gain access. Off the cuff, Biggin Hill only really offers the external aerodrome cafe for access and the surrounding external fences to gaze through. From the cafe it is clear that the airport runs a fine and discreet aviation package and there is clearly more, than what the public should have access to. The former RAF buildings still remain, and are also not accessible to the general public. Having travelled 46 miles to come to biggin hill airport today it felt like a dissapointing anti-climax. My personal score for Biggin Hill Airport is 5/10.
We had a excellent afternoon at Biggin Hill. It was a superb concert by the D Day Darlings. (Remember them from BGT, they got through to the final, I belive) the concert was scheduled to be in the garden, unfortunately the great British weather was not willing to comply. So it was in the Chappel of Biggin Hill Air port. The history of the place just gives you goosebumps, if you haven't even to the museum you should, not a big museum to be fair, lovely tea shop. And any money raised helps to keep the facility open. So please go. Your money is needed. Great afternoon and the concert was absolutely charming.
Flew into Biggin Hill today in Piper Arrow from Coventry. Air Traffic couldn't have been more helpful & marshallers and ground staff too. Yes at over £30 landing fee its not cheap but reflects its commercial nature & proximity to London so not at all bad. Professional and friendly, you mix it with the business jets. Forgot to arrange a limo with darkened windows to pick me up so just had coffee in the very nice coffee shop. Well worth a visit - Biggin Hill village not far away either if you fancy a walk.
I love watching plans I love the red arrows and spit fire and am a girly but I love plans because there are a mazing site and I like biggin Hill on because you can see the plans land and if no one going my nan would take me because she lives in biggin Hill neer the air port so she gets half price or some time we watched it in her garden but I love biggin Hill and plans well done for putting the best air show on and I love were they pop the balloon with the plans .
A fantastic day out...it's not a place for everyone, but if you like small aircraft and a cup of coffee, tea, cake and lunch then this is the place to visit...please don't expect over the top entertainment and young children may get bored easily...but if you want a nice ride out of town to chill...then try here, you can easily move on to somewhere else from this destination...there's plenty more places before and after Biggin Hill.
To be honest, 4 words best describe my experience, and they are Superb, Efficient, Professional, and Courteous. Within the minute of my arrival at the Airport entrance, the airport escort vehicle had been deployed and ready to assist manoeuvre me airside upon the receipt of my required passes. An altogether seamless process and progressively advanced service delivery. Huge shout out to the Team. Simply grateful. Kudos.
Biggin Hill Airport not adhering to their commitment on noise ! Yes to a great heritage facility and private flying facility but no we don't want 24/7 commercial flights same as the operating company did in Southend. Biggin Hill stick to your commitments and limit noise and flying time. I do not want extended hours and we want the past high court judgement adhered too.
I flew in a Spirfire this year from Biggin Hill. It was the best day of my life - and I'm over 60. The flight was all my dreams come true, and thinking about it still gives me goose bumps 3 months later. Biggin Hill and the Spitfire. Two iconic names entwined forever. Glorious and shining examples of Britain at her best.
Aeroplanes, and a snack bar you need a card to buy anything in,,,,,,cheese roll and coffee £7,kids can starve LOL Hotel is coming on,Looks good and seem to be re landscaping all the frontage, let's hope it's got facilities for Biggin Hill Billy's to visit.
An amazing day out for the airshow. Well organised with a wide variety of displays. It is still very much focused on the airshow part rather than becoming a site for vendors and car boot sales like some airshows have degenerated to.
Wonderful time, learned so much. Fulfilling a dream for my Father who as a boy watched the battle of Britain unfold in the skies above him. Thank you to all the crew especially Austin who was our guide. Cannot wait to visit again.
Here you can see the Spitfire, and Hurricane, that fought in the battle of Britain in World War Two, and brought down many Doodle Bugs and German Bombers before reaching London, and will always be eternally grateful. …
Lovely place to relax and enjoy a rea or coffee and a multitude of snacks and cake plus you get to watch the planes and if you are lucky you might see the legendary Spitfire
It was very good bisi today a lot of young children they love the aeroplanes and plane spoters staff good to always worth a visit takes any stress away. Ps I'll be back.
Nice and peaceful out the way you can just relax and watch all types of aircraft take off and land. If you're lucky you might see a red arrow or 9 …
The Heritage Hanger was amazing the staff and pilots were wonderful. Martin had his spitfire flight and us in the chaser plane trip of a lifetime worth every penny.
If your crazy about Spitfires visit the Spitfire heritage centre, make an appointment for an organised tour or book a Flight in a Spitfire, brilliant staff.
We had a meal in the new Turkish restaurant by the airport. Food was nice but the restaurant had no ambience, waiters wasn't to friendly either..
Great day for spitfire flight and tour around the historic hangars. Staff very friendly and helpful, would not hesitate to recommend a visit.
Seeing the old aircraft in action is the best experience to imagine how far we've come is amazing. Great visit if you like historical places
This is the way to travel people! Lovely place with friendly and professional staff..they go the extra mile.. Such a lovely experience ..x
Small but very informative museum describing life at Biggin Hill primarily during the second world war, with a memorial chapel alongside.
Worth stopping by and visiting the chapel which has the base's history available. Part of the DaVinci Code was filmed at this WWII base.
I was at EFG Flying School for a trial flying lesson. Excellent organisation, friendly staff and a very knowledgeable instructor.

As usual good airport to depart from. Love the little lounge and customs are obviously quite fast !
This is the closest airport to Croydon where I can land and park my Gulfstream. Love this place!
I have thousands of flying hours out of my beloved and revered Biggin Hill! The best memories.
Not particularly to my liking. On edge of low emissions zone. Drivers seem to drive too fast.
I flew as a front end passenger many times in the 60s in a tiger moth doing aerobics.great !
Always a pleasure to be here. Everybody is friendly, the cookies tasty and the coffee too.
Lovely little cafe part of the museum. Very friendly staff. Delicious cakes. Recommended.
Love this place including the cafe. I find it an enjoyable experience to come here.
Great place for a cuppa and a piece of cake and watch the planes take off and land
Went today and all the staff looked like they were chewing wasps, smile please !!
Airport for users is probably very nice. Visitors facilities are non existent.
The armchair airshow was fantastic, I'd love to come back and help next year!
