Tonight's visit was during the Friday Night event the zoo is doing this summer. If you don't care about the welfare of animals, then you should at least care about the fact that you'll be lucky to see maybe a fourth of the animals during this time period. Most everything actually closes at 8 pm, not 9 pm, in an attempt to herd you out of the zoo. But honestly, it doesn't matter much because basically all of the animals are already going to sleep by 7 PM. So if you want to listen to a DJ play the Cha Cha slide and all the other hits from your high school dance while eating Wetzel's Pretzels, you'll be alright. If you want to actually see animals, don't bother doing the night event. As for the zoo in general... I visited the LA Zoo today with my husband because I desperately wanted to see an elephant. Sometimes these things come over you. I had read on their website about the rehabilitation work the LA Zoo was doing and thought, okay, they must be alright. We made a beeline for the elephant area and the first elephant we saw was standing in a strange sort of fenced-in corner, swaying back and forth and bobbing it's head. I remarked to my husband that the behavior seemed strange but he joked and said it was dancing. I've watched a lot of videos of elephants because they're my favorite animal and I had never seen one behave like that. I brushed it off and went to enjoy the rest of the zoo. But we'll be circling back to this moment later. Many of the enclosures we came across, I was shocked by how small they were. Perhaps the worst was a beautiful eagle about the size of a first grader whose enclosure was smaller than my apartment with slightly higher ceilings. I couldn't help but feel bad for this majestic creature with it's massive wingspan that couldn't fly. After wandering around and seeing not much of anything since most of the animals were already in for bed, we ended up returning to the elephants. I watched a different one try to eat the leaves from the trees outside its enclose since there were no trees in it's barren space. I flinched as I watched it get zapped by the fence when it's trunk accidentally grazed it. I tried not to think too hard about how small the enclosure was for the elephants, how it was barren of trees, and how the elephants just... Didn't seem happy. On the way out, though, we walked through some protestors who were sharing information about Billy the elephant. I took a flier and scanned their QR code. And I learned about how the LA Zoo had been found guilty of mistreating one of their elephants, Billy, but due to a procedural problem, the case was declared a mistrial. I'm a paralegal, so I was gutted to read this because I know this means they can't try the case again. All the evidence against the zoo was found to be valid, with a scathing opinion from the Judge laying out the suffering of this poor animal. Yet some weird technicality prevented justice from reaching fruition. A failing of the justice system, to be sure. I signed the petition for his release but I wanted to additionally write here to warn away anyone else who, like me, loves animals and naively wants to believe that the LA Zoo is treating them right. I should have known better and I regret my selfishness preventing me from looking further into the treatment of animals at this facility. Now that I've seen firsthand their tiny spaces, I can't turn a blind eye. Shout out to the protestors for being brave and making people aware of Billy's situation. These animals deserve better. Especially Billy, who was removed from his family for no reason at only five years old and has been trapped at the LA Zoo for three decades. I can't fathom how anyone could live with themselves knowing what as immensely intelligent, empathetic creature they were keeping in such a small space with no trees, surround by electric fencing. We're better than this. I have to believe that the right thing will be done.
of getting presents for Mother’s Day, I wanted to go to the LA Zoo. It’s something different. I just wanted to create more memories. I don’t remember the last time I was here. I think the last time I was here was when my mom used to work here. It was nice to be back here after a long time. I always enjoy going to the zoo. My husband purchased tickets online. Children under 3 are free which is really good. Was able to bring in our wagon with no hassle. The zoo was very clean. Animals are easy to see. The animals are so beautiful. The cages and the areas are so well kept. I also enjoy reading all of the signs and having a better understanding where the animals live and what they like to eat. The staff employees are very friendly. They are respectful and provide great service. Once we entered the zoo, we were greeted with lots of smiles and handed us maps. Even answered a lot of our questions before entering. They have a playground area. This is a great place for picnics. You can bring drinks, food, and snacks. But just make sure you don’t try to find the animals. That can be very dangerous. Ice cream stands are always a must. They have a lot of choices and great ways to stay cool. The restrooms are very well maintained. Clean and well stocked. A lot of sanitizations. Parking was great. We parked really close. We got there at 10am. Not bad. We did so much in a day. We will definitely come back here again. Thank you for the great memories.

A wonderful zoo. Tons of vendors line the front of the parking lot, offering foods, drinks, hats, and toys. The cost was $22 for adults. restrooms are immediately to the left. and throughout the zoo, there are rental cell phone chargers. A Grand stairs (or side ramp) gides you into the zoo and through the gift shops. The best advice the zoo greeter gave me was to take the train to the very back and then work our way back down on foot. The train was only $5 with unlimited stops all day long. there are 5 stops that you can get on and off all day long. Perfect way to see this zoo. They have the largest air-conditioned artificial cave ful of adventure and paths to explore in the kids' zoo. I loved the aztec pyrimid hand washing station there. The carosel is fantastic. Facepainting and character artists are just below the carosell. There is an out of the world, most amazing playground for kids in the very back of th zoo. The rainforest had an amazing aviary to walk in. thick trees, beautiful bird calls. This was my utmost favorite party of the zoo. Food portions at the snack shacks were incredibly TINY for the price that they charge. It's quite disappointing. But on the whold a fantastic zoo. ie

Came here with my family on a short vacation. TBH, we should have planned it out a bit more. We were there about 5 hours and only got to see at best a third of the exhibitions. It's a lot of walking, however, they do have a tram on site that runs about every 30 minutes between stops around the zoo. If you time it right, you can save a bit of walking time between exhibits. It's about an extra couple of bucks per person but worth it since my husband has a bad back and the uphill walking was a bit much. The only downside to the zoo was the protestors at the entrance. They are very loud and say some things that provoke questions that people with small children may not be ready to answer. Other than that, zoo personnel and security allowed my family to go in while I purchased tickets so I am grateful for that. They have face painting and caricature artists on site. My daughter loved her caricature and the artist who drew her was very funny. The kettlecorn we purchased while there was also great

i’m told that this zoo is well-funded but you wouldn’t know that from a visit. a surprising number of exhibits are closed for renovations, although none showed signs of current construction. one of the first exhibits through the gate appears to be abandoned altogether, with ragged scaffolding showing. some of the signage was missing on some exhibits. a group aviary had a friendly duck-looking creature front and center and no corresponding information. so why am i giving it four stars? it was clean and had a good variety of animals available to observe. we went late in the day, knowing that some animals would be off exhibit for the day already (although it seems poor practice to put the animals to bed while the gate is still open). the result was almost having the zoo to ourselves. having a quiet few minutes with no one else around to commune with the indian elephant was so enjoyable. i loved the experience of touring the deserted zoo on a weekend afternoon.

A very nice zoo. We arrived on Saturday just in time for opening to avoid long lines & waiting, And we definitely bought tickets pretty quickly and got in without standing in line. A ticket for an adult costs $22 and for a baby under the age of 2 the entrance is free. wide variety of animal types. In my opinion, the zoo is not arranged in a sufficiently organized manner and it is difficult to find your way around and reach all the animals, it felt a bit like a maze and there were no maps anywhere. We arrived on a very hot day and many of the animals were not in places where they could be seen inside the cage. The food/drinks/souvenirs are very very expensive!! Besides, our baby really enjoyed it and it was nice to watch the animals, the zoo is clean and inviting, nicely decorated and you can see that thought was put into it.

It was really hot, so some of the animals were not seen in their exhibits...but the ones we did see were good. We were there in the early afternoon, so most of them were napping. The elephants, gibbons, giraffe, painted dog, flamingos, meerkats and kangaroos were the most active. It was decorated for Halloween and had several blow-up displays of animals. One display of Christmas trees and reindeer were towards the Africa area. Didn't get to see that and a few other spots because we had a full day of other events. All in all, it was a nice zoo, very clean and nice displays. Only reason for 4 stars was that we didn't get to see a lot of animals because they were either hiding from the sun or not in their enclosures. Zoo hours are 10am to 5pm, but check before you go because some days may be different.

Lions and tigers and ocelots! Oh my! Yeah, I didn't see bears. I saw gorillas and pandas and birds and reptiles! OMG! It was so much fun! So we went here for my kid's birthday with her friends. The best deal is the $199 deluxe membership (see pic), which you can buy online. If you are military, you get an extra $10 off any membership. You can also get $3 off any individual ticket at the gate. This is an excellent place to get your steps in and cheaper than a $25 a month gym membership! Entertainment and exercise! Parking is FREE! There can be long lines when it first opens. There is a separate line for members. I got the $300 membership hood for 3 adults and can bring a guest. I this membership and the deluxe you can include your children or grandchildren (2-17 years of age... I do not have any in this range) up to 8 (YES, 8 children!). $7.99 for a refillable cup that you can always bring back (refills are $1.99)
It was quite warm, so a lot of animals sought the shade of their dens. I was still able to see many animals including elephants, gorillas, Australian wildlife, reptiles and more! There are quite a few empty enclosures, but I don't think they would be good for animals to reside in anyway. Besides the Addax and Anteater, most of the animals seemed content to be there. Definitely an older looking zoo and with enough funding I bet they could improve the enclosures! Free parking and it took me 3.5 hours to explore. I ate at the Zoo Grill. The burger and fries were tasty and with a drink it came to $21. Gift shops were really aimed at kids. I also liked how they had statues from the old zoo. Overall, I'd visit again!

GO & ENJOY! Well worth the money. A bunch of amazing animals and small enough to get it all done without being extremely tired at the end of the day. Go early, the animals come out at opening and want to go back in around 3pm. The shows were good. The weather was perfect. The animals are visible. + You can bring your cooler with lunch & snacks for the day. There's a bunch of restaurants also pricy but available. I went on Earth Day. What an experience! Nature girl by heart, so this was a great choice. * Oh, and buy your ticket online. No wait. Just walk right in, scan your ticket, and start your day! *Strollers and motor wheelchairs for rent for a very good price for the day. Enjoy a few pictures from my day!

I've been going here for the last 30+ years. I feel like it continues to get better and better. It's been nice sharing the experience with my son, and this last time we went really took the cake! We went for a special tour thanks to Camp Conrad Chinnock, the JDRF, and Padre Foundation. We all had so much fun! Each group of 10 was given their own docent that gave us our very own tour complete with fascinating facts. After the tour, we got to watch an amazing bird show. The rain didn't stop us from having a blast. I can't recommend the zoo enough. P.S. Xander even made a new diabuddy while we were there.
Went here on a Wednesday evening for the LA Zoo Animals Aglow light special ✨ The displays were very neat to look at, some of them very intricately designed It was fun walking through the different settings and taking pics with my friends Very few animals on display at night as most of them were asleep The ones we did see were either sleeping, resting, or pacing around their enclosures (I didn't particularly like seeing that as it reminded me of someone dealing with anxiety and stress ) But overall, it was a nice event Food is VERY expensive ($12 for a hamburger and fries ) so I recommend eating before or after entering the zoo

We had a very good time today at the zoo. Though there were not that many animals, we really enjoyed the atmosphere there. I can just come here every weekend just to walk around, see some animals and enjoy the greens. The highlight of our visit today was getting to feed a giraffe ($5 / person - three romaine lettuce leaves). Besides these beautiful animals, they have a carousel inside the park, face-painting and a very nice playground/picnic area. Also, there are food/snack stalls everywhere throughout the park if you want a quick bite but it is pretty expensive. Packing food and drink from home is recommended.

Kids and adults liked it. Reasonably priced Free parking. Food costs were around 8 to 14 dollars a person without a drink. Souvenirs were a bit pricey, but that is how it usually is with places like this. There was a lot of walking both uphill and down. Think i ended the day walking around 5 miles plus. Can rent strollers and electric carts for people who need them. There is also the shuttle that goes around the perimeter of the park. There is a carousel you can ride for 3 dollars. There are plenty of restrooms throughout the zoo. Bring a stroller or wagon if you have children. Would go back again

This zoo is fun to go to, but I do not suggest waiting later in the day to go since they close at 5 pm. Wish they stayed open until at least 7 pm or so. It's a hot summer, so don't expect a lot of animals to be out much that aren't surrounded by lots of foliage. The souvenir pics are cute, and the employees handling them are very nice. There is an abundance of walking, but that's parts of the fun - at least for me, honestly. They do have a tram that goes around and stops at several spots. You can get off and on at any of the designated spots if you pay for a day pass - $5 for adults, $2.50 for each kid. However, no small hot dog or slice of pizza should cost $12, but it is L.A. so expect increased pricing.
Went to the LA ZOO today with My Son,( His Fiancee),. Grandson's Mother, My Lady, and I. Today was a one night only sensory, lights, and feel evening. Are at the Zoo Grill. Their angus cheeseburgers were good, pics to follow. Only gripe I had with the place is by the time we finished and needed either a couple of containers to pack out leftovers in or heck even a bag. Their response was sorry don't have either? I said, WHAT?!!! You would think after spending close to $100 dollars for 4 adults and a small child, you would think they would try to accommodate us?? Instead they had me dumbstruck at the counter wondering if it was some kind of joke! I was waiting for the punchline that never came.
Very good experience. It was a great time looking at all the animals. Make sure to pack water and snacks. It's a big park. You can enjoy the play zone for the kids. It under cover so the little ones don't get burn or overheat. The little train can take you all around the park. If you buy a all day pass you can hop on and off as you wish to see the all animals from around the world. Tha k you L.A zoo for making the fun game to find the wonderful travel icon from around the world. We played it and it was so much fun. We just wanted to find the next clue.

Honestly I haven’t been to L.A Zoo ever since I was a kid. Going back after so many years with my son has been the greatest experience. I felt like a kid again. From being there in the afternoon to see the animals and experiencing the Lights was so amazing. I loved how they have different little themes and music while you walk along the zoo. The restrooms were well kept and very cleaning too. I didn’t try the food and snacks but I definitely will when I go back next weekend. 10/10 I would highly recommend this place to spend time with family & friends.

We have been to plenty of zoos in different states and we were disappointed with our visit. We didnt see but like 3 maybe 4 animals during our visit. All the animals were put up. It was a warm day so will give them that but there was no warning or heads up before purchasing full price tickets. So we pretty much just walked around up and down hills to look at trees/bushes. I'm sure it has potential to be a fun zoo but it just wasn't worth it the day we visited unfortunately.

In May, it was a sunny and cold breeze month to go to the zoo with family and friends. A photographer with a welcoming smile took lots of pictures of us to have as souvenirs. We saw many amazing animals, a family of baby goats, a baby monkey, a big strong tiger lounging about my husband's favorite animal. I've gone to the L.A. Zoo, since I was in elementary school on fun field trips. Thank you, L.A. Zoo, for the beautiful memories.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good zoo. I've been to a lot of zoos... I was pleased. Lots of interesting animals & exhibits. I'll admit, I did get lost. That was probably the worst part of it. The layout was a little confusing. But we managed. And we saw pretty much everything. There were definitely plenty of empty exhibits & enclosures, but the other animals that were out, made up for the lack of exhibits.

I went for a Halloween day. Everyone was all dressed up. The kids were really cute. Not all animals were out. the picketing in front was not cool. They were shouting with bullhorns about how the kids should know their parents were bad for going there and not an animal preserve. I saw that some kids were even scared by it. Also if you need a motorized chair, they only have 2 to rent. Over all a nice day.

(Visit date: June 2023: sunday) Great place for little ones! My 3 year old always enjoys their visit to the zoo. I suggest getting a toddler camera so they can take their own pictures. Parking isn't bad if you arrive before 1 pm. Ice cream stand is great, and the flamingo cone is a must! Animals are usually out and active, but tigers and elephants are a bit harder to spot.

Was hot when we went so a fair number of animals were not in their exhibits. A bummer but you know watcha gonna do. Also it does require a lot of walking to see the whole zoo unless you take the shuttle but the shuttle does cost money. It's like 5 bucks or something, I'm not to sure. I think the reptile houses were the coolest part of the whole zoo but that's just me.

Member here and we love taking my two year old there to see animals and get some exercise lol. The bird show is open now and saw the new rhino. Different every time. Sometimes u see the animals more active than others. My boys favorite are the monkeys, elephants, giraffes, and flamingos. The animal that I’ve only seen once is the jaguar. Things opening back up. The lil goat petting area was cool.

I spent the whole day and it was fun but everything was really expensive so I recommend you bring your own food and drinks. Also there were a lot of animals that weren't in their enclosure or their enclosure was being worked on which is fine if they do that, I just think if they do that they should let you know through the website so that way if you plan to see a certain animal you can know before you go if you'd even be able to.

The exhibits are nice sized and the animals all seem taken care of. Parking can fill up quickly, so get there early. The zoo is quite large and it's easy to get lost so I highly recommend using a map. The gorillas were the star of the zoo and most of the primates were active! The rest were just basking in the sun enjoying the nice LA weather. :)

The Zoo is always a great experience. Just $22 for entry, and snacks/merchandise is reasonably priced. In all, my afternoon here cost me about $60 after having several snacks, a lemonade and purchasing some souvenirs. NON ANGELENOS reading this — If you go to the zoo in the Summer be warned that it is VERY hot. Bring a hat and sunscreen , and I recommend a reusable bottle. I also cannot recommend the Wombat exhibit enough. It’s got AC and the exhibit itself is amazing.
The LA zoo is an amazing place to visit with kids. They will really enjoy all the animals there. There are fun activities for kid like face painting, portrait drawings. They are good food options but it’s preferable to take food for small children. The whole zoo is stroller friendly so you can move the kids around with ease.

I always love to visit the LA Zoo. I recently visited and most exhibits were closed. I'm not sure if it was because it was the middle of the week or if that's just the way it is these days, especially after the pandemic. Anyway, I had a great time and I even renewed my membership for another year. I love the animals.

It's a nice zoo that feels like it's targeted for locals and not tourists. The warm weather means lots of open air enclosures. They need more concession options, bringing lunch is a good idea to avoid lines and save time. It's affordable and has free parking which is very nice considering the many other attractions that charge outrageous prices for parking and tickets.
I honestly have a love hate feeling about zoos. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. They have a wide range of animals including giraffes, elephants, kangaroos, gorillas, etc. My favorites were the primates including a female orangutan, so sweet.

Omg this has been a dream come true for me. I’ve wanted to come to the la zoo for 23 years. I got to bring my daughter here. I’m disappointed by the fact that there was no cheetah(s). Other than that it was a wonderful experience and very clean. Lots of snack options. Very clean, few places had a a smell but otherwise plan to spend at least 2 hours minimum here.
The park was very well kept but seemed understaffed. The food was way to expensive and very very little animals. We got a two annual passes for $90 which isn't bad. We will be back because of it but I hope it's a little better.

Be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat in Summer, and stay hydrated! Staff were a plenty and always there to help and advise. We arrived early on a weekday, which we were told made the experience quite intimate and less congested. But too early for some of the shops/kiosks to be open. Quite an experience :) definitely a visit for a family
I spent a day with my 1.2 years old baby here. He was excited to see the animals. We didn’t book the tickets in advance. The staffs were friendly. We got our caricatures done near the entrance as well. Picked up a few soft toys. The zoo is small compared to other zoos in the bay area. But it was a day well spent. No regrets..
They sure have cleaned this place up and what a deal with the family membership . Habitats were well taken care of and the staff was friendly and interactive nice to relive some childhood memories.

Love the zoo. It’s small but it’s well kept and the animals look happy. Love having a membership and going to all the events! Tip: if you have a membership, try to go on an early open day to watch them feed the animals. It’s so much fun and usually the best time to go as all the animals are out and hungry!
Have fun, and my kids loved it. Got to see almost everything in about 4 hours. We missed the petting zoo area because they closed down at 2:30. Other than that, we had a blast.

Totally recommend getting the membership pass... way better, n it's a great learning place to take the kids all year around... there I'd a lot of food vendors outside and a lot of fresh food... also a lot of vendors selling hats at 15$ / 20$ . You get 10% off everything u buy food and at the stores.
The best thing to do is to buy a membership here. This is an interesting place to spend time with children. The territory is large, there are a lot of animals. On weekdays it is especially pleasant to walk here, as there are far fewer visitors

Love Ofrenda they have. We got the opportunity to place a picture of our beloved pets that have passed away. They print the picture and provide the materials for you. It was a fun experience.

Tons of cool animals to see. We spent a few hours here, but didn't quite get to see everything. It's a lot bigger than you'd expect, so plan accordingly!

One of the best place for children. The zoo is not big, but it has many animals and a good place for family together.

A lot of the animals were not very active. This was probably due to the warm day. Stood in line almost 25 mins to get snacks for family. Many of the other snack areas were closed, so snack opportunities were not as convenient. The employees
My first time with my disable daughter at the LA ZOO NIGHTS only on Fridays from 6pm-9pm lovely views, from the sea lions, Meerkats, reptiles & more but our last sight was the baby elephant who didn’t want to look at the crowd, it had its
During the weekdays only half the food stands are opened, and half staffed. And the majority of the vending machines in the zoo didn't even work and were either turned off or just out of order. So pack a snack or be prepared to wait in
We have an annual membership and let's just say its been a bit disappointing. All their big animals are gone or never seen. The bear, Tasmanian devils, lions, hippo, elephants (rarely can see), and more are gone. I understand that some
Nice zoo, but when we visited today there were lots of closed exhibits and and a couple of long detours. This made for a lot of walking. Probably great if you live in the area and plan to make multiple visits, but quite a bit to see in
L.A. Zoo lights are pretty cool. Great date night or great family night for the little ones. Maybe 2 hours to tour the zoo, so it doesn't eat up the whole night. We'll run. Foods, snacks and drinks, apleanty. Highly recommend.
The formidable parking lot detracts from a very walkable, fair-priced attraction that is better managed than the homeless vagrants at the Santa Monica Pier and the entire tent city of filthy Venice Beach.
I Love this place better then San Diego Zoo. Missing some animals but excited for the return when it’s time. Shuttle ride is so convenient to skip the walk up hill. Membership get free shuttle rides.
Los Angeles Zoo Nights only on Fridays. It Was Alot of fun for the Family...Music, Entertainment and Food. Just make sure you are there when it opens at 6 pm-10 to take advantage of everything. More
Loved watching all the animals from the electric wheelchair I rented from the zoo. It was very hot in May but there was plenty of beautiful shaded paths to cool off. I especially loved the monkeys!
Another visit to LA Zoo with kids. Smaller crowd than expected on Veterans' Day. Today's star was holler monkeys in a small exhibition, all the kids with families came to see and hear them. More
The zoo was so much fun! My kids had a blast! Staff was friendly and helpful. My kids made friends and I wish I had connected with them!

Took my boys for their 9th birthday they enjoyed watching & learning about all the animals. Getting to see the giraffes in close person was really awesome! More
LA Zoo Lights was a theme last year. We walked through the Zoo filled with dynamic lights and projections. But no real animal seen at night. More
LA Zoo lights is a fun date night. Not only for kids! The lights were fun to look at. Rode the carousel. It was only $3/ticket.
