"We came here today to get Friday night’s dinner I love this place the pre cooked food It’s pretty good I had never had a problem until today first the sign to wear gloves is very small second the gloves was behind something so I did not see them so a manager or whatever he was asked us to put gloves on if we was going to take food which we did (okay) so you don’t see anything wrong right (wrong) Even the three cashiers ladies that was there they even agree with me it was other people there taking food and that man did not tell them to wear gloves I felt bad and embarrass so I left the food and walked out"
"Best prices in the neighborhood, at least for the items that I regularly get"
Terrible grocery/convenience store and this location of Morton William's is the worst in my opinion. I have picked up fruits with fungus growing on them (blackberries, strawberries). I saw it at the cashier pointed it out then went back to pick another packet which also had the same problem at which point I gave up. The cashier kept the fruit I gave her to replace it once j am gone. Rest of the fruits look stale most of the time to me as well. I picked up several boxes of babkas. Turns out the plastic packages was completely broken on each of them and they had big holes in them. I can't believe someone still stocked these up eventhough these were clearly damaged in transportation. The prepared food is bad tasting, overly cooked, tough as a shoe with too much salt and very little taste. Lastly, I have seen pet dogs running around without leash. This is in fact against NYC health code. The cashier, managers are not bothered. I totally understand if these were service animals but these dogs were not even house trained. This is an overpriced store with terrible fruits and prepared food. Go to the whole foods or even the Morton William's on 57th and 6th.
My Workers and I buy Sandwiches daily from the Morton Williams deli on 9th ave and 58 st. We take advantages of by 8 get one free, but we have trouble with the short Spanish lady daily in the deli, I believe her first letter to her name is( E) according to her name tag,( it's illegal to put someone name in a review, so ill use the first letter to her name.)always has attitude, nasty and cussing, this past week her cussing at me forced me to walk out in middle of ordering 5 Sandwiches. So, is it worth it at the end of buying 8 Sandwiches and getting one free, NO !!! She refuses to clean deli slicer and has attitude when asked to please clean because we don't want different meat from previous cuts on my sandwich, is that too much to ask, I ask for store Manager seems like he's off on Wensday and no one to speak to. Hopefully this message will get to someone important that will fix this matter quietly.because me and my best buy workers will not buy another sandwich at this time.
Generally good selection and the aisles are generally clean. However, one thing that is unacceptable is the misleading pricing - I shopped here regularly for 4 years and over time got into the habit of photographing the prices of the items I was purchasing with my phone so I could alert the cashier if the item came up with a different price at the register. Almost universally when a price was wrong it was wrong in the grocery store's favor - which would be fine if it were an isolated mistake here and there - but in this case, the frequency and consistency would suggest that it was intentional rather than accidental. Ordinarily I would have just shopped elsewhere but convenient options nearby are limited unless you want to wait in line at Whole Foods - that said, check your receipt before leaving against the prices in the aisles because the difference could add up over time if you are a regular shopper here.
We came here today to get Friday night’s dinner I love this place the pre cooked food It’s pretty good I had never had a problem until today first the sign to wear gloves is very small second the gloves was behind something so I did not see them so a manager or whatever he was asked us to put gloves on if we was going to take food which we did (okay) so you don’t see anything wrong right (wrong) Even the three cashiers ladies that was there they even agree with me it was other people there taking food and that man did not tell them to wear gloves I felt bad and embarrass so I left the food and walked out. If you’re going to make rules, The rules should apply to everybody it doesn’t matter what race or color you are.
Best prices in the neighborhood, at least for the items that I regularly get. Also their steam tray always has a wide variety of precooked, ready to eat, well-seasoned foods that I take advantage of frequently. Put em in the fridge and zap later in the microwave. Not always easy to see prices. A sale sign isn't necessarily at the correct items and the price at cash register doesn't always match what you think. So I would take away half a star for that, if I could. But, if you watch and point out an error they are always fast to correct. Another tip: timing is everything on how fast you can navigate without crowds, and when the food first goes out on the steam tray buffet...
Ran home to write this review - I’m a regular customer of this store since I live on the block. Tonight I needed to run in and quickly buy a loaf of bread so just going in and out. I was holding my 5 pound service dog since I had just taken her out to potty while running in to get my bread. A CUSTOMER, followed me throughout the store screaming at me for having a dog in the store. I clarified that it was a service dog and that I was just running in and out. She followed me the entire time I was in the store screaming and making a scene. The employees working did NOTHING to help me. I will NOT be coming back. This was 1/8/2023 at 10:30 pm.
First time shopping there. The kid who was the cashier! Busy talking I had to wait on her! That's not how it works.. then she was rude. I don't think she really wanted to work . Young kids are so lazy theses days. Went to my job. Open up my cottage cheese and it was green and moldy!. Today went in. Ask for a lid for the . He was not happy he had to move. His comment. There's no soup so don't worry! Really a manager said that!. Then I'm front of him coach roach was just walking around the counter. He didn't care. I told him. How do I get my oatmeal in a bowl with out a lid?? . I don't know was what he said. . Nope never again
I only gave three stars because this Morton Williams is so small. I love the one on 12th Avenue. It has everything!!!! The deli person-I believe her name was Jennifer...forgive me if I'm wrong-handled herself quite well...she had many of us requesting cold cuts and salads. She was quick, efficient and kind... They should have more people like her working with people! The prices here are okay, the produce is top notch and the cold cuts and salads are FRESH! The cold cuts I must add are quite pricey but they are Boarshead brand... Btw, the rotisserie chicken for $8.99 is tasty.
There salad bar is pretty good, small but enough choices to make a nice salad to go with a soup or whatever entrees they're serving, which can be a hit or miss depending on what they cooked for that day. $8.99 a lb. so choose wisely and beware of the amount of food you want to eat. A few scoops of this or that and if your not being cautious about the weight, uuuh $15 or more dollars later, if you get what I mean. There other venues to choose from with better food if your gonna spend that kind of money when you're in Manhattan. Pizza, diners, ect,.
The deli manager (Ramona) is very unprofessional. She is constantly on her phone ignoring customers and if you try to get her attention she will give you a terrible attitude. Also, almost nothing in the deli area has a price tag on it and most of the bread in that section is rotten. I don't understand why Ramona is still employed with Morton Williams. My suggestion is if you have any trouble with that deli manager (Ramona), report it to the store manager (Junior) he will take immediate action. Everything else in the store is great.
The staff is COMPLETELY overworked here. I live right around the corner and with how often I come in I have seen staff members working more than 12 hours in one day. I’ve come in at 12am, seen the same staff leave in the morning and then come back mid day without even a 12 hour turn around time. Whoever the manager is at that place clearly doesn’t know anything about proper staff treatment. And this is sad because after 2020 when grocery store workers were a must, I would expect the management to prioritize their care much more.
The lines here tend to move very fast, I hope customers realize this. Some areas aren't physically comfortable For example the dry pasta section is tightly near a support column. The best thing at Morton Williams are the fast lines and efficient cashiers. Some zones can make you think "ugghh" because of their less-than-perfect physical position: those are: dry pasta, bread, cat food, orange juices, salt, tuna. Some zones are comfortable to be in: those are: produce, fresh fish, and I'll say the deli counter too
most food is expired, do not buy produce here unless you want it to rot the next day..management is rude to customers and staff, also there has been a fly infestation in their onion supply for months and nothing has been done about it. management and ownership create toxic work environment for staff, and overschedule them with the threat of termination if they don’t comply.. the only good thing about this store is the staff, though most are frequently turned over, the ones that are not, are nice and kind people.
Employees are not happy at this store. Very expensive and not an alternative to gourmet shops. Management has decided to make customers be cashiers… and they have some teen watching over you, like a teacher. We have gone 3 times to buy a specific chocolate brand and every time, the scanner does not read the code, “because it’s not in the system”. But they don’t bother to fix it. One of these entitled teens watching us do the checkout, was laughing at us. You guys have no idea what customer service is. Sad.
One of the Morton stores that could be much better. Location is fabulous and check-out staff usually nice, but the store always has sales that are don't seemed to be registered into the POS, so I have wasted a lot of time at check-out, asking clerks to go check the prices on the items that are usually marked as sale items. Lines are sometimes long, other times not so much. Overall okay store, except for inaccurate sales price labeling which has never been rectified throughout the years. Please do better!
I often go to this store to get food to eat for work. Usually, the food is fresh. Today, I decided to get the Chicken Fried Rice, but after heating it up It smelt a bit rotten. After taking a bite, it was slimy, soggy, and sour. It said it was packaged the day before, and it still had 4 days of shelf life, but it was spoilt....this isn't the first time it happened, either. If I get food, expecting it to be fresh, but sometimes, isn't......something needs to be done in the packaged fresh food section.
Morton Williams is generally better than Gristides. However, this particular location of Morton Williams is trying its hardest it seems to close that gap. I started shopping here 2 years ago and the selection and service was excellent. The pandemic has really impacted this location. It’s chronically understaffed and selection has deteriorated. All that being said, they remained open 24/7 during the pandemic and for that I would officially rate them 4.5 stars.
Mixed experience here. Got whacked hard in the head by the manager moving towers of boxes around, not looking where he was going. Also you have to check each price because they get you to buy sale items but invariably ring it up full price. Cashiers are very nice, though, and fix it. But you have to be eagle eyed. It’s nice to have some of the European options they sell. But Whole Foods nearby has much better prices and hence longer lines.
I’m very sad that I been buying from this supermarket since 11 years I went to the market as usual I encounter a racist with the manager name Ramona She didn’t allow to cut a lettuce They was talking in Spanish thinking that I didn’t understand them. Because I was Muslim and not Spanish She didn’t allow the workers to do it for me And they do for anyone daily basically I will stop going I didn’t like the experience
The amount of money that I spent for only four items, you would think that the staff could be a little more friendly. The cashier that took care of me was fine when I was about to get on another cashiers line before this one ,that cashier rolled her eyes at me. The maintenance worker was very rude as well I spoke to the manager he said he would deal with it. The deli guy was nice to me as well.
Rip off. List many sale items which then ring up at regular price. Ask them to correct you get an argument. Have never once seen such an error in the customer's favor either Also, didn't think it possible but they actually are higher priced than Whole Foods, at 10% of the quality! Best way to get a real grocer in the neighborhood, don't patronize this awful place till it closes for good.
Morton Williams has a good selection of cheap items that every kitchen needs (baking soda, vinegar, Kraft Mac n Cheese, General Mills cereals). They have a lunch buffet, which I consider sub-par. However, I have heard good things about the rotisserie chicken and their subs. They also have a small selection of white/red wines, which are cheap and satisfy any recipe which calls for wine.
Great store compared to the Hudson market nearby, however, I often find it is kissing a few staple items (asparagus for example) that my bread always goes bad before the posted date (it’s bad on 8/5 with an 8/11 stamp date) and that the fruit is always bad as well. Overall, I can go to whole foods for those items in Columbus circle but I wish I could get it all in one place.
Great selection in every dept, inc prepared foods. Love that they're open 24 hrs, have a cute basic kosher section, have nice bags that u have to purchase, though I do wish they also had some cheap, good ol' fashioned free options as well. Hate to HAVE TO buy "nice" bag if just deciding to buy some things while out n about. Nice, clean, NYC size store w/ average NYC prices.
It's always horrible because I am disabled and receive government benefits I got my apartment through HRA it was the only one available. It's beautiful don't get me wrong but everything in this area cost an arm and a leg and I physically can't work. They need to make more stores for people like me in this area if they are gonna have subsidized housing here.
The buffet is unclean! I'm experiencing the worst case of food poisoning from a fish served at the buffet. Either the fish wasn't stored at a proper temperature before being cooked or there was fecal matter on the serving utensils trays...etc I'm at the doctors office regretting ever stepping foot in this place. Hire competent food handlers !
DOES NOT CHARGE SALE PRICES FOR ITEMS ON SALE. RIP OFF ARTIST AT WORK ITEMS ON SALE AT MANHATTAN STORES (23 ST OR 57 ST ) BUT SAME ITEMS ARE REGULAR PRICE AT 9TH AVE /58 ST STORE. WHY IS THAT? I HAVE RECEIPTS AND WILL GET IN TOUCH WITH NYC CONSUMER PROTECTION DEPARTMENT. PHOTOS FROM W57 ST STORE SAME ITEM IS NOT ON SALE AT 9TH AVE.
Pricy, but it's Manhattan so what do you expect. Can be very crowded between 5 and 7 on weekdays but never as bad as the Whole Foods at Colombus Circle. They have a surprisingly weak selection of vegetarian / vegan meat substitutes. My C-town in Queens is better. If that's your thing you have to brave the lines at Whole Foods.
Open 24 hrs. Great neighborhood asset...and you will pay the price. It's ridiculously high prices inevitably will force you to look for another brand or smaller quantities...or even scratch it from list. Either way the savings are barely worth the sacrifice, as the white label brands are inferior to most others.
While visiting NYC from Michigan our hotel was located down the street from this store. The store was clean, well stocked and the employees were friendly. I was able to purchase flowers at this store at the last second to surprise my husband w/ while in NYC! Also, great pizza place across the street.
Small but packed grocery with a great cheese and meat selection. Their offerings are perfect for smaller household grocery trips as well as stopping in before hosting or attending a party. Bonus: They carry fat free ricotta (small containers) and fat free shredded cheese, a must on the Dukan Diet.
Small store. I am not always able to find what I need. Items get moved from one spot to another, and there's no rhyme or reason why. Staff are mostly friendly but many times can't help me because they don't speak English. Prices are all over the place-some are outrageous and some are good value.
Food to identify if it's a fight I also had an incident with the front end Mountain you ask my wife where did she get a drink she told her where she got it from and she actually you sure you didn't get it from over there I was not happy that you do not know me and David light wife words
An UNFRIENDLY environment of personalities. People in CUSTOMER SERVICE who "STARE" without engaging in customer conversation is UNTRUSTWORTHY they can have all the TRAINING for EXPERTISE STARING is a psychological barrier conditioning. This is my opinion I WILL not be RETURNING
Good Morning just love shopping there clean and spacious isleonly concerns when pushing trolleys. The packers are always putting stocks around the store..suggestion for management. Can these workers atleast pack when store is less crowded..thanks …
The hot food bar is always well filled with a variety of selections and they are always extra careful since the pandemic. They have a box of gloves by the food so you can prepare your container without your hands touching the food. I reccomend this supermarket highly. …
This actually an excellent supermarket, however, they're expensive, that's why I didn't give them five stars. I know many of are aware that food is expensive almost everywhere these days, therefore, you'll have to visit Morton Williams and experience it for yourself...
Prices are to high and they didn't have things that other super markets have like velveeta mc and cheese the one in microwavable cups small cans of spinach, green peas etc. can goods for one person and some other items you don't carry to be a big supermarket
I do shopping frequently & ask for delivery and never get my shopping bags delivered in time_ NEVER!!! They are sent at leat 1 hour after my shopping & somehow end up in different address every time. Terrible management especially in the evenings.
Will only go here in a pinch. The produce isn’t super fresh, they have no organic meat options and everything speaks old and dusty. But if you just need some detergent or ice cream it’ll do the job. Staff is not particularly helpful or friendly.
Great place for super quick grocery shopping. Dont always have organic things but if you dont want to stand in line at whole foods this is definitely a great alternative considering its only one avenue away from the whole foods.
Price is very high in this shop. I was staying in the hotel around. Trying to buy some fruit and salad. The price is doubled compare to traders joe. I bought 9 liter bottle of water, but unfortunately the water waste plastic.
This store has good sales. However, it is very small. The produce selection is limited. The dairy is not the freshest - expiration dates are soon. The cashiers are grumpy. The produce staff is helpful if you can find them.
Went in to buy water on 11/2. Staff guy didn't want me buying from the cold case when there were pacakages for sale. I understood and complied but he cursed at me in Spanish. I understood the word.. He should be fired.
kinda cramped. the space could be utilized better. i try to only go in the middle of the night cause the line is unreasonably long. prices are great for the quality. employees are usually dry and uninviting.
This smaller older location is actually better than the larger newer location two blocks away on West End Ave. And 60th street. Staff is far more helpful and selection is same just not as much inventory.
Reasonable prices, friendly employees, everything is organized but for anyone who shops here regularly PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check the expiration date. Had to return some products due to OLD food.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR ALL GO TO TRADER JOES 13 blocks away. Who ever said good prices is smoking some ganja. Prices here are not doubled but tripled or quadrupled over any other grocery store.
Im a truck driver delivery a load, so I bougt some fruit, orange juice and eggs. It was very convenient, however the prices are high. Im not from NYC, so Im used to these high prices.
The prices are a bit high, and the meat selections could be better. I'm from Queens, so this is really a big adjustment. I really just shop here because it's closer to the house.
What an amazing and affordable place to eat. It's clean and healthy. Their food bar is so much cheaper than other places. Their fish and vegetable salads keep me healthy!
Good neighborhood grocery store with a great deli. Toiletries and other personals are limited so plan on a trip to Duane Reade for those. Expect long lines at checkout.
All things that I bought at this place had poor quality: Bought 6 eggs, one of which is broken. Bought 2 cups of yogurt, one of which has been opened. Low quality
This place is very well stocked and organized. The hot food is so tasty and the vegetables are fresh. And for being midtown Manhattan the prices are not so bad.
Buyer beware when buying cheese, ice cream and meats. I've had several instances of buying one of the three and having to return it. It's also very over priced.
Always check the price you’re paying when checking out. Several times they display one thing and charge you another. Also most of the stuff here is overpriced.
Beware! The food here is not fresh; bought a wrap and realized it had mold on it, also bought mango and it had a very unpleasant smell. Moldy food for $18.
Convenient location, especially if you are dorming at Fordham University. Some items are quite pricey, but there seems to be quite a few good selections.
It’s our closest so we do go here by default but usually if you have some fortitude and summon your will you can complete your list. Strength & Honor.
Would like to thank staff member Deana (917 9th Avenue) who has been very helpful & always happy to answer any of our questions - Aussie travellers
Glorified bodega. Prices are high although sales aren't bad. Reasons to go are 1) 24 hours or 2)you hate shopping at Whole Foods. No other reason.
Great variety for organic and regular food. Good prices. Not usually very busy. Prepared food as well as fresh. Delivery is reliable and quick.
If u can handle the ticket it's worth it especially when the put out the mac and cheese ... um question- why isnt there mac&cheese famous yet!?
Surprising amount of food and produce tucked into a not extremely large supermarket. Cashiers are friendly. Wide variety of food available.
Some things can be a little pricey but it’s open 24hrs so you can’t really beat that. I do wish the place was a little bigger though.
Seems like a neighborhood favorite. I thought the items were slightly expensive and it is a pretty small store but it was very busy.
This is a great supermarket the prices are a little high but it always clean the food in the deli self server section is very good .
The groceries are a little overpriced, but the prepared food is good and the sushi is very high quality for a non-sushi-restaurant.
Lousy. Rudest cashiers ever. Stock folks will knock you over without a second thought. Makes you wonder who the customer is.
Great spot!!! Nice salad bar and prepared things, very clean and convenient for grocery and for a quick lunch to take away!
had a variety of brands of the stuff i wanted but hard to tell where’s the line was and some high prices for certain things
This store is very expensive, especially the produce. I’d rather go to Whole Foods, get better items and probably pay less.
Junior, the Manager is amazing. He is so helpful and goes out of his way to make your shopping experience "the best!"
Love it... good food cooking in there too, customer service is very nice, they can get my money just on that alone..
24 hours is a plus, but prices are out of control and quality of merchandise is terrible (produce is downright foul)
Love their ready fresh hot meals. Price by lb is reasonable. I normally by 3 different hot fresh meals for 3 days.
Great selection of really good buffet food. (Ribs bring my absolute favorite) A little bit expensive but worth it.
Does not charge the correct price. I am always charged more for items than the price displayed. Never going back.
Overpriced Whole Foods prices but not the quality Not even ketchup helps this turkey meatloaf to taste better ...
A large food supermarket. Fresh vegetables, fruits and lot of verity foods. Employees are helpful and supportive.
Good market, but kinda small. They have a big one a few blocks away that has a huge selection. On West End Ave.
Market is clean with well stocked shelves. Prices are moderate for the neighborhood. Staff is usually pleasant.
Small grocery with known brands and reasonable prices for the neighborhood. Great alternative to #wholepaycheck
If you're visiting from out of town, this store will save your life. Pricey, but you can find anything here!
Aside from your regular groceries their hot food items such as salmon, chicken... will have u wanting more.
Pricey, wide selection, and I know it can happen to anyone, but the blueberries I got here were moldy once.
What can I say! I love their Salad Bar hot foods!! I shop there most of my lunch breaks. …
This supermarket is small, but very clean and a bit overpriced. The fruits and meats looked very fresh.
You actually find everything you're looking for. Products are fresh. Some items doesn't have price.
I went there in search of Fresh Hero bread ....and the 9th ave 59st ....has Fresh Hero Bread....
I like to go there for the little take out hot meal buffet good beer prices and friendly staff.
All the meat is rotten. If the price seems like you’re getting a deal, youre getting rot.
Staff was very helpful and assisted me when asked to get everything I was looking for
The prices for meat and poultry were amazingly cheap everything else was expensive
Clean well stocked store, only issue was the card reader wasnt working properly,
Still offering weekly specials while others have stopped! Great Deli department.
Nice supermarket. Clean neat and well organised. A bit expensive but exclusive.
The prices are a little high but It's great that this store is open 24 hours.
I love Morton's it's the closest grocery store to my home …
Good fresh food options. Fair pricing. A decent range and friendly service.
