I visited here after riding with the Metro Gold Line to the Ciclavia event, as it was scheduled to pass thru the Mariachi Hub. Because of street closures at the time of the event, the light rail was perfect to get by on with my bike, right up to where the action was! Also, Gold Line service appeared to be interrupted from the Pico/Aliso Station due to maintenance work thru the Little Tokyo Station and on to Union Station. I intended to ride further, tho the stop here worked out as well and was very interesting to see! I didn’t see any designated transit user’s parking places here on the map, or as I arrived off the light rail. There appears to be some available lot space all around the plaza. It’s also possible to park at the Atlantic Station garage for a small charge and ride the rails for a short distance, or continue into Downtown LA as service there resumes. The Mariachi stop is actually a subway station at this point, having gone up and back down multiple flights of stairs, tho there’s an elevator too. The station area was attractively adorned with artwork, info signage and a Mariachi Plaza with a gazebo! I heard that this area was commonly used for popular public events! The place reminded me somewhat of the pavilion at Olvera Street, with the gazebo stage over there also used for similar entertainment! I was told by locals to return likewise when an actual Mariachi Plaza event takes place, with mariachi musicians, singers and dancers! There were two things I had to see here, before going off with the bike. The priority was to find a restroom, with which there were port-a-potty’s provided by Metro, just for the event. Secondly were quick food sources, again temporarily provided outside the station for the event. Except for event’s, there were no regular use public restrooms available for Gold Line users that were readily visible within the block of the station. And although there wasn’t a quick sandwich shop at the subway station, the daily offering of authentic Mexican food restaurants may be well worth the stop in itself! ¡Para la buena comida y los buenos momentos!

As one of the Gold Line's underground (subway) stations, it's nice that Metro left the ground level of Mariachi Plaza mostly intact. This is a good station to use to visit its namesake Mariachi Plaza, the Eastside Luv Wine Bar, or the old-school Jim's Burger (a block east of the station).

Not a very crowded station. Great scenery with Mariachi Plaza. Nice place to visit on the weekends for the farmers market.
