The official Chicago Park website describes the Bartelme Park Playground like this: "The children's play area offers ADA accessibility that allows for inventive, non-linear play without traditional play equipment." Inventive, non-linear, and non-traditional are all great adjectives to describe this playground in the West Loop. The fully enclosed playground uses the rubber surface itself as a play element; there are steep inclines and valleys that invite play. Most of the elements are indeed non-traditional. While there are a few slides, there are no swings or monkey bars in this playground. Instead there is elaborate "jungle gym" structure made of belts of black rubber, a rope climbing structure, and a smaller structure for younger children. The play area is fully enclosed and there are several picnic tables that make this a comfortable playground in a new and beautifully landscaped park. The park also includes some interesting, geometric arches that have a gentle water misting feature (though they are hard to activate) as well as some grassy hills for playing. Highly recommend.

I'm a big fan of this park. Great little enclosed dog park although it can get a little crowded at times. I'm updating this review to remove a star because the dog park remains so crowded much of the time and I've lately experienced increasing instances of irresponsible owners letting an aggressive dog attack other dogs with little control. With so little space the close contact exacerbates the problem. There's also a good sized playground for kids. Finally there is ample lawn space to chill and enjoy the day along with misting stations for the extra hot days. The lawn areas are hills so if you're looking for a place for sports I would head down the road to Skinner park instead. There are also plenty of special events throughout the warmer months including food and drink (including alcohol) trucks, movie nights, and a great farmer's market on the weekends.

Great spot just outside downtown, downtown. Be prepared to get dressed to the nines. There might be free parking on the south side. Not "perfect" for the toddler, because she'll make you work for the fun. Up the hill, down the hill, up the hills down the slides, repeat. Fun and there was more grass areas besides the mighty jungle gym, just seems like it's an older oriented gym. Has a dog park, always a plus in the city.
Playground
Big man-made geometric hills with grand slides. It seems to be perfect for over 5. I bet this would be pretty cool if it ever snowed. More affluent neighborhood.
Dog-friendliness
Super dog acceptable. New gated park. Levels for dogs to jump and play around.

  • Jenny Addison

This is a very plastic play park. It's interesting and has lots of structures but there's very little greenery, natural areas or trees. It feels very tight and crowded with the artificial rubber covered hills of the play ground, and the chaos of the dog park area makes it feel very busy and loud. Don't go here if you want to relax or do something like read quietly in the park! It's an active playground, not a park.
Playground
Huge, artificial. Very hot plastic. Crowded. Geared towards very small children.
Dog-friendliness
Lots of dogs, lots of dog poo around the walkways ... love dogs but so many in such a small space made it kind of yucky.

  • Matt Georgopulos

Great park for kids ages 4-12, but I'd say the majority is 4-8 yo kids. Lots of different equipment for all ages, elevation changes, motor skills challenges, or creative play. Enough comfortable spaces for parents to sit and watch too. Dog park run area is separate and fenced in. Signs say no dogs except in there, but there are dogs everywhere, so that part can get annoying with watching your step or around the kids in the large middle area between. Water mist from the artistic arches is nice in the Summer and a great food truck spot too. A few free parking spots around if you look hard enough, but you can always find a paid parking spot if needed too.

I decided to visit all Chicago public parks with my very active almost 2 yr old. Bartelme park is a nice park with a gated playground for kids and a separate one for your furry friend. It is not a big park. If you want to walk around it would take you approximately half hour to do so. Parking is a hassle and may end up paying. Also for those with little ones the playground is mostly for bigger kids and I didn't see no swings at sight. Playground can get crowded lo n the a.m. and there are a few trees surrounding it but it's mostly exposed.

  • Toy Robinson

This park has new equipment. There are a few trees, but no shade. It can get very hot! I consider this a big kid park (age 4 and up). There is a lot of climbing equipment, no slides or swings. The neighborhood has permit parking, but metered parking is available on the north and west sides of the park. There are metal picnic tables and chairs available. Again, it can get very hot, the playground has no shade.

My daughter, dog, and I enjoyed this small park one evening. There is a playground, a lit up walkway, a large steel archway art piece with plenty of sitting for its size and a dog park with a plastic water pool and running water in summers. Our dog enjoyed the park and it was nice to find free poop bags at 2 sides. Small but nice. We 3 will visit again. By the way...paid street parking.

  • Amber Lenstrom

Love this park and all it has to offer. Today I was walking through and discovered the Mexican food truck -Mey Delicias! The breakfast tacos were amazing and some of the best I’ve had in the city. I got the egg/chorizo and egg/carne asada. I’m eager to go back and try more menu items. The sweet owner said they’re there most Weds-Sundays serving park patrons

  • Mike Simon

Dog park, children’s playground, plenty of grass area to spread out and relax. Great location for Greek town & west loop. An oasis in the middle of hustle and bustle. The dog park always has 4 legged friends at it, busy times are packed. Sometimes food trucks will be on the street parked. Often on weekend nights groups of family’s will be posted up as well.

  • Lindsay Bayley

This is my new favorite park. Dog park, sculpture that sprays water, super cool kiddie play area, hills for relaxing, native plants. It's truly lovely. So much better than the surface parking lot it replaced! More parks, less parking...and this is why you pay for metered parking. When it's free, people just leave their cars there all day.

  • Tammy Owins

I manage the farmers market held Saturday’s in our beautiful park! During COVID-19 we still had Famers, yoga on the Hill, kids, dogs, families, singles spending time in the Park. The Market received great reviews from the City and shoppers as we were all able to execute safety protocols. Hoping we can get back to ‘normal’ next season.

  • Devodare_Chicago

It is an oasis in the West Loop. A very safe place, always full of families. Huge fenced in kids play area, large dog park, cool sculpture, nice grassy hills. So many food trucks here in the summer. It is just a wonderful place to hang out. I love to lay in the grass and soak up the sun. It is a good drone location. I love this park.

  • Dondré

This park seemed to be very cool. The light arches is what I went to go see. I do street photography for a hobby so I ventured all the way to this park to try and get a cool photo. I was very disappointed to know upon arrival that the lights were off. I got there a little after 9PM. The park was nice from what I could see.

  • Leira Ren

This is a beautiful place to walk your dogs and shoot the breeze in the windy city. The amount of benches around the park give your pooch ample play space while you watch them roll run bounch around with others. Spice it up by taking an rc car and attaching a flag to get the dogs running for hours of fun and laughter

  • Angie Quezada

I enjoyed coming here but the dog owners need to be more considerate on picking up after their dog's poop. There are many children who play here and unfortunately my sister fell and ended up landing on fresh dog poop. Luckily we managed to get her cleaned up at the dog shop across from the park.

  • LV Grygiel

Best park for pets -with a dog run & best play area for kids in the City. Great meeting space with cool misting available during the humid summer. Farmer’s Market & Movies at night. It also has a number of caring, excellent volunteers who keep it perfectly manicured and clean for all.

  • María A Márquez

Cute park with skyline views in the middle of the West Loop. Great for walking your dog (and they have a dog park/run!), having a socially distant picnic with friends, laying out on the grass with a drink and a good book, or just sitting under the share of a tree to people watch.

  • Annie P

My daughter and I discovered that park by mistake and just couldn't leave. There a great and unusual structure for older children. I tried it and it gave me quite a workout. The whole surface is padded. We will definitively be coming back. Even teenagers would have fun here.

  • Alex Lauriano

Really nice peaceful park. There's no parking however. I really wish there was benches/tables to eat but you can easily have a picnic on the grassy hills. There's a lot of places to have activities and even a dog park and neat sculpture. There's something here for everyone!

  • Al “I.T.” KING

Nice little park in the West Loop. Kids area with a few table and chairs nearby. Dog area so your furry friend can play. Misting area to cool off during those hot days. Enough grassy areas to picnic or tan. Decent amount of paid, street parking surrounding the park.

  • David Leibowitz

A gem. A neighborhood magnet. Children play in the park. Dogs have their own play area. There's a beautiful sculpture which sprays cooling mist in the summertime. Movies and shows scheduled frequently throughout the year. Clearly our town square of the West Loop!

  • Kenneth

A small contemporary urban park with such a beautiful view. West of the loop, this is a must see for tourists and photographers. Over decades this area has become a warehouse district to now and upscale residential area. There is a children’s playground included.

  • Javier M

Great park in the west loop to let our toddler enjoy the playground and dog watch. Fun times in the warmer months with the farmers market and fall time is still great. If only we could solve the mystery of how/ when the metal structure mist. Seen it a few times.

  • Jamie Barth

This is a beautiful park in the heart of the West Loop. It's perfect for families and just enjoying the city. The playground is great fun, with all sorts of equipment. There's also a terrific spray sculpture that will make being outside in July bearable.

  • Sandra Contrerarty

Exquisite area park with a pleasant canine park, youngsters' play region and wild local blossoms. There's continually something occurring here from ranchers market to food trucks to film evenings! Incredible anchor for a feeling of local area around here

  • Lucio Vergara

Really love this place. It's so relaxing and walking distance from Greek town. Perfect for a first time date. Where it really comes alive is at night. It's a photographers paradise and people come here with their dogs. Defitnetly a park to come see.

  • Deven Bernadette

We love this park. My daughter lives across the street and I walk the dog there whenever we visit. It's a very social place for dogs and dog lovers. It has a fenced-in dog area as well. It's kept up and there's a great farmer's market on Saturdays.

  • rafael cantero

It's a good place to bring your kids there .
Playground
Playground is great for small children
Dog-friendliness
Yes, and what I like the most of it is that the dogs are on one side and the playground on the other side, not together..

  • Ernesto Cuellar

Lovely neighborhood park with a nice dog park, children's play area and wild native flowers. There's always something happening here from farmers market to food trucks to movie nights! Great anchor for a sense of community in this neighborhood

  • Tierney Smith (T-Ran)

This is a great park right in the Heart of the City. There are so many unique features including the sprinklers, the obstacle course, and excellent playground. And if you avoid the lunch rush you can usually find street parking pretty easily.

  • Ash

Took my daughter here for her 1yr bday cupcake. The park has tons of hill's and padding for the kids lots to do, as well as a dog park. But you can bring your dog anywhere you want. I wish they had parks like this when I was a kid.

  • set c

Great park. Has green space to have a picnic, enclosed kids park with new play equipment. Also has dog park which is popular too. They host a lot of fun activities at the park. Also has a farmers market. Great community park.

  • Connor Burdge

Could easily spend the entire afternoon with the family at this great west loop park. New, clean, nice playground, fenced dog area, Saturday farmers markets, and nearby Greektown combine to make for a perfect community park.

  • Jennifer Doty

The BEST park. Part is for kids, part is for dogs, all is for enjoying the outdoors among your neighbors and their adorable families. Great place to come and drink your coffee and watch the puppies play on a Sunday morning.

  • Foods Here

Great park to have a small picnic. So many great lunch options near for take out to enjoy at the park! Plenty of shade under trees. Area for dogs to run loose. Big play ground for kids. Nice hills to catch a suntan

  • Micah Lapping-Carr

I mean, this park has it all: slides, ramps, rubber climbing things, dog park, and even a farmers market on Saturday mornings. And a portapotty.

  • Dalida Jongsma

This is a great park in the heart of the West loop. The playground is perfect for older kids and there's a mist spraying sculpture to run under. The dog park is fun but my small dog is too timid to play in there.

  • Maribel Chacon-Torres

This is a great park with many awesome motor skills activities for kids. The only bad thing is that there is no parking near the area and you definitely get ticketed, if you park without a permit parking pass.

  • Sean Howard

This was the place that made me fall in love with the West Loop years ago. A dog park for our furry family. The “red park” play area for the little one. Green space. And friendly folks. A gem in Chicago.

  • Scott Fenn

This is such a cool little and well used park! It's adjacent to my daughter's apartment so a great place to walk her pooch. Everytime I visited, it was clean and nice. Love these public spaces...

  • Robin Blackstone

Cool spot in the middle of the west loop. GREAT dog park. Loved the cascading dog bowl water fountain. The additional bonus is the awesome pet store located on the outside corner of the park.

  • sydny mersenski

Very nice park, nice people, very clean and animal and people friendly I love bringing my dog there and letting him off his leash while being fenced in so he can run and play with other dogs!

  • Clinton Davis

One of the nicer parks that I have been to.
Playground
Lots of different types of activities for the kids.
Dog-friendliness
Yes there is a very nice dog area in this park.

  • Cirstin Wilson

All I can say is that this park is very family friendly. There is a playground I'm sure the children will love and a dog park. It's clean and more space to sit and relax on the grass.

  • Richard Peterson

Popular little park. Has dog and kid friendly areas. Fairly new I guess; not so many trees yet. Too many people for bird watching unless you count pigeons, sparrows, and starlings.

  • Kim De Anda

Cute and concise park with a beautiful view. Always fun seeing all the different dogs, and the layout is very spacious making it easy to socially distance yourself from others!

  • agarwal sheetal

Bartelme park is very good. It's always happening as many of the activities are planned here like Halloween, diwali, etc. They provide many freebies and chocolates to the kid.

  • Roshan

Interesting Neighborhood Park with cool pieces of metals but it lacks something! Its a great addition to neighborhoods but quite a trip for tourists to make a special visit.

  • Destiny Marie

It's a nice park. I don't really use it for the playground but it's got good grass for picnics and stuff! It's taken care of and there's a farmers market here in the summer.

  • Zach Brinner

Neat space to walk through, take a seat and chill. The playground/fort area is really cool. Good quality fort, valleys, and hills. I'll be back up there even as a grown man!

  • rphilly3

My dog, Marcy, says this dog park is great. She says it would be perfect if the doggo water fountain wasn’t always out of order. It be like McDonald’s ice cream machine

  • Jessica Chien

The coolest dog park I have ever seen! The dogs all seemed soooo happy. There are local vendors market on Saturday morning. Bring your dog, kids and family here!

  • Clark

Great little park for dogs and kids, there are enclosed spaces for each. Some nice sculptures and landscape architecture also. Lots going on in this small park

Well maintained park with enclosed off lease zone for dogs. Farmers market located here during the summer months on weekends. Nice little escape is west loop.

  • Cheryl Draa Moran

Green Street farmers market is right beside this, and had a great selection for the middle of October. I really did not know Brussels sprouts grew on stalks..

  • Colin Jameson

Gets busy during 8-10 and 4-6. Great for Dogs and picnics on off times, weekend activities and markets regularly. Fenced in Dog area. Modern safe playground.

  • tanya allen

There is a dog run which is great. I just wish that the dogs were not allowed in the grass areas where we can sit. I have sat in pee before and it's gross.

  • Mark Jones

Great park. A real gem in the middle of the city. Clean and will maintained. Big dog area and a great place to chill. Always easy to find a parking spot.

  • Charlene Patel

LOVE walking here with my family. We take our son to the park while my dog enjoys the dog park! Love the farmers market on Saturdays during the summer.

  • Linda Ellison

I like this park a lot but they don't enforce the dog area much. My son loves running around here so I just have to keep an eye on what he steps on.

  • Matthew Lewis

A very pleasant and well designed neighborhood park, with various zones and programs for everyone, including a small dog park (all concrete though).

Homeless have been camping in the park at night for a week. We have called all local authorities and nobody has said they will take any action.
