I took my pups to see Dr. Mattox at Mid-City Veterinary Hospital, and it was a great experience! One of my pups is an old lady pitbull who gets very stressed at the vet, and she is a massive pain, but this did not phase Shawn (vet tech) or the gal who cut her nails. My pup tried to bite Shawn when he gently reached for her collar (this was after he'd bribed her with treats and had spent some time letting her get comfortable). We put a soft muzzle on her, and her exam was actually done with Shawn and Dr. Mattox on the floor so that my dog would be more at ease. They took blood for her heartworm test in the room with me right there instead of trying to get her to go with them to where they usually do it. When it was time to do her nails, she panicked, big time. She peed and pooped, but Shawn held her gently but firmly while her nails were done. The gal cutting her nails was so quick and efficient! My pup did have to get put up on the table at one point so her front paws could finish being done, and she freaked out again and pooped some more. I was embarrassed, of course, but when Dr. Mattox walked back in, he just said "oh look! A stool sample!" I was so appreciative of that levity. My other dog is easy as pie, and the vet tech who saw him was just so funny and sweet! At no point did I feel pressured to buy any products or to have unnecessary treatments. All of my concerns were addressed, and I felt really comfortable with everything that was done. I typically am very stressed after I go to the vet because of how hard it is on my one pup, but everyone was so relaxed, kind, and professional that I walked out of there feeling really pleased with the entire experience. Any vet's office that can handle a nervous pitbull like that gets top marks in my book!

Five stars for Dr. Hartdegen. She is caring and great with our dog. One or two starts for Dr. Hess and the communication within the team and from the vet to me. I have had many problems with the left hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. Here are a few issues I have experienced in the last four days: • Not knowing what meds I am here to pick up • Misinformation about when stuff happens with the care of my dog • Frequently put on long silent holds (I've had the staff hang up on me twice in the last four days). They also have a ringback tone when you call, but no hold music… odd. • Calling my wife with information when the front desk person confirmed the callback number should be me. • The front staff called my prescription into the wrong pharmacy after I confirmed the location twice with each of the two different front desk people. Dr. Hess just called me with the misinformation mentioned above and really copped an attitude when giving me the wrong information. This is not the way to treat a client. This vet is also more expensive than the average vet for basic procedures. If it wasn't for Dr. Hartdegen, and the convenience of the location to my home, I would jumped ship!

My husband isn't very familiar with how the appts for a routine shot go... They kept asking if he wanted this test and that test. Pretty soon our should have been $120 appt became a $300 appt. When I called 4x to get a hold of someone to discuss the absurdity what transpired, I was actually pretty cool about it at first but I was annoyed. The receptionist proceeds to treat me like a jerk and got rude. So it got ugly. I hung up on her and she called me back berating me about hanging up on her. I'm a customer. I don't have to take that from you any more than anyone else would have to take rudeness from me. Spoke with the owner once. She basically said too bad. We never went back. Heard th same story from a few ppl too. My dog was incredibly uncomfortable there and had an accident every time she went. They charged us to clean that up as well. Gees, I'll clean it. It's a shame because Dr. Harding was actually pretty good. We see another doctor who has decades of experience, our dog isn't nervous, the receptionist and tech are amazing, and we don't have to put a down payment on a house for every appt. Thanks no thanks.

Dr. Hess, Dr. Hartdegen, Dr. Maddox and their incredibly amazing staff are the absolute best at what they do. They have taken such great care of our puppy and 2 cats, like we are all family. We recently lost our cat, Mook, who lived to be at the old man age of 19 years old. They did everything they possibly could to ensure he was living his best life after being diagnosed with kidney disease over 2 years ago. They were able to prolong his life by helping us change his diet, water intake, etc to make sure he was getting everything he needed. A month ago, after his passing, they helped us in ways I've never seen a Vet has done before. They even sent us a card with such kind words that I cried tears of joy at the thoughtfulness and time they took to write each note, which helped me remember my sweet Mook even more. I'm sorry for the long winded review, I just think it's really important that people fully understand the kind of care they are getting when they go here, it's not just getting your pet in and out, it's white glove service, and they will love the sh*t out of your pet and would do anything for them.

I started coming here when I moved to the neighborhood. The one positive- the wait time is great, basically just walk in. Negatives: 1. Extremely expensive $12 nail clip, vs $5 at SAF, and I frequently got the impression I was being upcharged for things my animal didn't really need 2. They take your animal into the back and treat it, and you can sort of watch through a little window. I prefer places that treat your animal with you present. 3. On multiple occasions, I have felt uncomfortable with the way they handled my animals, the most recent time being so much that half way through my appointment I pulled my dog, paid my bill, and went to a different vet, and I will not be returning. 4. Administratively, despite being corrected multiple times, they always call the wrong person to follow up on appointments. They call my housemate about my dog, and they call me about my housemate's cat. Not sure why after being corrected by phone and in person by both of us, they never got this right. Not a problem anymore, since I won't be returning.

I never leave reviews because I feel it's a waste of time, but I feel the reviews on here are extremely misleading. Do not take your pet here if you need immediate and educated help. I called to make an appointment for my dog who was having an allergic reaction, told them ahead of time that I did not have all information regarding his vaccines since I had just moved to the area and the vet I took him to was no longer in business, was assured this wasn't a problem then got to the appointment and they refused to let my dog in because he didn't have proof of vaccines. I told them that they could give him all the vaccines they require if they could just see my sick dog but they were extremely rude and hung up on me. I was told conflicting information every time I tried to call to fix the issue and it was clear none of the staff knew what they were talking about and told me no vet would not take him without proof of vaccines. Called another vet and got him in without proof of vaccines within the day.

Dr. Hess is the absolute best veterinarian I could ever imagine having. She and her wonderful staff helped my boyfriend and I through the worst moments of our life with an incredible amount of love, care, and attention. They knew and loved our cat and would treat him as if they were family, we never had to remind them of what happened during previous visits, and Dr. Hess would call us on her days off to update us on test results and to check in. She diagnosed our cat quickly and confidently, kept him alive and comfortable for as long as possible, and though we were not able to bring him in at the end, she mourned him with us. I am still in shock and so much pain, but I wanted to write this review so that Dr. Hess and everyone else will know how much she helped us.

Well I went to get my dogs shots updated, but wanted to wait til my female was no longer in heat to receive one of them. I didn't want one of the shots because it could possibly mess up the pups. Classic german shephard dogs, potentially 1500 a pup. The vet began to be rude and argue with me in front of my kids instead of performing the task requested. Even her vet tech was wide eyed and embarrassed to be in the room! I had to tell my kids sometimes people come to an impasse and it's time to leave. Then the lady reported me to OPP for having an intact dog. That's like 125.00 permit. So if you want to avoid a tax on your dogs balls, don't use this vet.

I have been visiting this clinic for a few years now and have never had any trouble. I’m very grateful that Dr. Hartdegen and the techs have always been patient with my dog who’s a very frequent (and anxious) visitor. The pandemic has made my dog a bit more anxious to go to the vet but I know she’s treated well there. It’s always great to be greeted with David’s humor at the front desk as well! Definitely helps during stressful times. Thank you to Dr. Hartdegen, techs, and front desk staff for making appointments easy and creating a safe environment for Emi. I really appreciate it!

Dr. Hess is hands down amazing, kind, generous, and incredibly smart. She is one of the most genuine Veterinarians I have ever met. Our two cats were very sick and required a lot of attention... their prices are very competitive and they will even help you find a better price online for the food or supplements you need. She explained everything in a manner that someone who is not a dr or in that field could easily understand. I have already pre booked appointment for my dogs blood work and teeth cleaning bc she is so wondering. So thanks Dr. Hess! You really make a difference!!

Dr. Hess and the entire staff at MidCity were fantastic. We recently got a terminal diagnosis for our senior boxer. Dr. Hess did everything she could to keep him comfortable in his final weeks. She, personally, would call us weekly to check in on him. When we finally ended his suffering, Dr. Hess and her staff were incredibly kind and caring. You could tell the focus was on the well being of our Bruiser over anything else, but she kept our emotional well being from declining. Everyone here is absolutely wonderful. You can tell these people absolutely love their jobs.

What an amazing vet! They got my furry heathens an appointment very quickly, worked with my need for an early appointment, and handled the fact my female dog does not play well with others without batting an eye. They let my heathens love all over them, and provided exceptional vet services. Dr. Hess explained everything she was doing, and when tests revealed the heathens had issues, she explained my choices and reassured me I am not a lousy pet mom. Their facility is clean, and all the staff are welcoming. I'm so glad I made the switch!

I had a senior dog and have seen probably every vet at this location, and all are incredible. My primary vet was Dr. Hess, who was the kindest, smartest and most patient vet you could ask for. All the staff LOVE animals so much and are such a pleasure to talk to. Even on bad health days, the staff is so positive and knowledgable that it’s hard to leave feeling sorry because you know your animals are being well taken care of. Whenever we are ready to adopt again, i will absolutely be taking my animals to Dr. Hess.

So I’ve been coming this vet for a few years and both with my elderly dog and my kitten, they are FANTASTIC. They are kind and patient, they care about making sure your pets are comfortable (as they could possibly be at a vet) and they’ve gone out of their way to make sure my old dog got the meds he needed- even when they were closing for a holiday! Both of the vets we’ve seen were great and the admin staff are gracious and caring and sweet. I love this place and recommend it to anyone that asks!

There aren't enough good things I can say about MidCity Veterinary Hospital. The staff is kind and attentive, the cost is very reasonable, we get same day service when issues arise and our dogs love them! Our pups have seen both veterinarians and found them to be equally amazing. They take time to talk to you about your pet and follow up to check their progress. They also respond to email inquiries, which is a huge benefit for any pet parent. I highly recommend them!!

I've never had a bad experience with MidCity Vet! The staff is always kind and upbeat, and I know they take such good care of my cat since she always shows them her sweet side (after yowling the whole car ride, there, of course). Dr. Hartdegen is always warm, clear, and straightforward, which I appreciate. The building is always clean, and everyone is very prompt about information. I've considered bringing my parents' pets here, too, even though they live in Kenner!

I've been coming here with my pets for over 7 years. We moved to Kenner from Mid City, and I refuse to go anywhere else. They treat my pets and I like family. They always respond to my e-mails even if it's on the weekend. They are very compassionate to my nervous nature about my animals when they're sick. The doctors are just amazing!!! The office is pristine! The entire staff is professional, and caring. I love Mid City Vet. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else.

Unprofessional. When I made my appointment I specifically stated that I do not vaccinate since he is indoors only. After waiting 20 minutes, a tech tells me that doc will only see my pet if we vaccinate. Wouldn't that be something I should have known when I made my appointment? They wasted my time, stressed my pet for the experience and I actually lost money because I took off of work for this visit. Big thumbs down.

This is where I bring my dogs. When something unexpected comes up with one of the dogs, they always managed to get me in the same day to have them checked out. The staff is always friendly and very helpful when you need information. They always go above and beyond expectations. I call them sometimes with just a question and they help me with whatever it is. I cannot recommend them enough. They really are the BEST!

My Riley loves, loves, loves her Vet! We live blocks away and if she could, she'd walk herself to visit Dr. Hess and staff. (Trust me, she has tried! LOL) At 6 months, my miniature schnauzer was extremely sick and was close to death. THEY SAVED HER LIFE! Riley, my family, and myself are forever grateful and couldn't imagine her little life being put into anyone else's hands. 3 years down and many more to go!

Dr Hess and staff are amazing! I am new to the city and am so happy we found Mid City Vet. I have a dog with a long term injury (with new complications) and Dr. Hess is very hands on and emails or calls (at least) weekly to check on his progress. She is very open and responsive to all questions and concerns. Everyone I’ve ever encountered at this clinic is professional, friendly and encouraging.

Amazing staff! The doctor is very patient and very understanding! She’s also very well versed in preventive measures for your dog. The staff is sweet and patient. Almost all documentation is sent through email and the area is very spacious. My high anxiety Shih Tzu loved it. With an appointment, but they do take walk ins, we were seen on time and out in 30 mins. Highly recommend!

Very friendly staff, handle my pets like their own. Knowledgeable and able to easily answer any questions. Four stars because follow-up can be slow (and I often have to be the one to call for lab results) and invoices not always sent via email when requested at appointment. However, staff are quick to resolve any issues and always with a friendly demeanor. Highly recommended!

Me and my wife went here to prepare our two cats for moving to Europe. Dr. Hess and her staff were extremely helpful and kind. Our cats were treated very well, and they went above and beyond in helping us get all the correct documents in place. I can't even describe the absolute callous nature of Dr. Hess fully. I've been to many vets over the years in the several cities in which I have lived, and this was the absolute worst. I have written a detailed review of my horrible experience over the last days with this vet on their Facebook page and would encourage all responsible pet owners to read it.

This place was great!! I am so glad we found MCVH! They took us in last minute before we were leaving town. They were so great with my cat (who can be a bit dicey at times). Great place. They are so kind and caring. When we had to put our poor puppy out due to his uncurable pain it was heartbreaking but they were there with us and even sent a sympathy card signed by every staff member. Even the vet used to let him give her puppy kisses. They cant handle major stuff but will easily set you up for big surgeries etc.

I really love Dr. Hess and her team! They did save my dog's life when she had her first Addison's Disease crisis (they diagnosed & treated her really, really quickly) so I may be biased. I don't love that they charge $15 for a nail trim (Prytania only charges $5), but they are usually really reasonable about prices otherwise.

Awesome, friendly, & helpful staff! This is not my regular vet but I needed my dogs rear end expressed and was looking for somewhere close to my house that could do it as a walk-in. I was extremely impressed with how great they were. Definitely would recommend them if you are looking to find somewhere for your fur babies.

The new vet there is excellent- handles our anxious dog expertly as she could relate having an anxious dog of her own. This was a huge relief. Everyone in there, front desk and tech, was extremely friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were all comfortable and the visit moved along smoothly

I absolutely love this place. My dog Cassie is always treated with care. The staff is friendly and professional. The doctors are available over email when I have questions regarding my girls frequent skin issues. It’s a safe place and I feel so comfortable knowing my girl will be well cared for here!

I had to put my buddy cat, Pickle, down yesterday and everyone was nothing short of supportive and full of love for our pet. Up until yesterday, Pickle had been a patient for the last couple of years. The staff are just the most. These are definitely people that love their workplace and our pets.

Sad reason to go here. We had to have our elderly cat put down. Staff was very sweet and caring. Hope to go back when the visit will have a happier outcome...... UPDATE. MCV is now our regular vet. Very happy. Fair pricing. Upbeat staff and environment. Happy with our decision to make the change.

Midcity Vet has the friendliest staff and always get back to me promptly. My dogs love going there and give Dr. Hess and her staff lots of love. :) This doctor's office also follows safe Covid protocols, which made me feel even more secure when having to bring my dogs in for checkups. ✅

The staff here is fantastic. I have had a dog and a cat get wonderful care and attention. The location is very convenient and is easy to get to from almost any part of town. Relatively easy access to I-610 and 10, the location is right at Orleans and N. Carrollton..

I had a stray dog show up to my house. I took her to MidCity Vet and they were so helpful and tried their best to find the owner! The people at the front desk were so nice, welcoming, and helpful. I will most definitely start using them for any needs for my cats.

Very well organized and thorough. Brought my new Boston Terrier here for an overall checkup. They got me in quickly and went above and beyond. The kicker? They still had me in their records from visits with another pup several years ago.

Dr. Bridget D. and assistant were A M A Z I N G with our Japanese chin Chi Chi who is typically an absolute terror when it is time for her shots. They were so patient, calm and gentle!! I was beyond impressed and extremely thankful.

I absolutely love Mid City Vet. They are so kind to my puppers, do a fantastic job looking over them, and are surprisingly a fair price. Meds are cheaper through them opposed to Banfield and Metairie Small Animal.

We're new patients and had a stellar encounter with Dr. Hess and staff. This is our 3rd vet and finally feel like we found a vet and team that are calm and caring with our overly anxious dog.

Don't expect any warm fuzzies from this place. Tech was rude from start to finish, mute, very much lacking in communication skills. Whole experience was traumatic for both puppy and handler.

Lauren is the best, before I knew it my stubborn Golden doodle had her needed medication in her mouth. She is quick, efficient, and sweet. The veterinarians are knowledgeable and honest.

Easy to get to, ample parking. The Staff were super friendly and timely. My dog was anxious when we first arrived but by the end of the appointment, he was much more relaxed.

We had an emergency with out cat and they took him immediately and took great care of him. They called to check up after and worked really well with us from day one.
