Excellent food. It is a small Middle Eastern grocer with about 6 four place tables. There is only 4 or so parking places in front, but if you drive thru a small alley there is ample parking behind the building. As you enter you will walk into the grocery and order on the left side at the bakery counter. The left wall has a menu with a large selection of delicacies to order. After you place your order you will go into the dinning area in the front left side of the store. The dinning area is a bit cramped with the six tables. The chairs are traditional diner style. Comfortable enough to eat but you won't want to linger. Food is excellent. Everything was made in a traditional style. They properly use tahini in hummus no peanut butter here. The babaganouj was absolutely terrific. My wife and I loved it. The falafel was good but about a half to quarter the size of traditional. As this was our first visit we ordered several different dishes to share. She ordered the Shish and Lamb Kabob with tabouli while I had the Gyros plate with Greek salad. The tabouli was great, while the salad lacked feta but was still good. Her plate was well portioned and both kabobs were good. Both the lamb and shish kabob were a bit dry. The gyro meat looked to be food service. A bit disappointing since I find a good rotisserie style hunk of meat to be better. Don't get me wrong it was good but the more traditional is simply better. For beverages we tried the lemonade and fresh brewed tea. The lemonade was fantastic. Really fantastic doesn't do it justice. It is hand squeezed lemon juice sweetened and in rose water. We ended up ordering a refill it was so good. The tea tasted like Lipton. Not my favorite but still nice, but I would have preferred one of the more traditional Middle Eastern styles. We were so full and took about half home. We couldn't resist the Baklava though. Easily one of the freshest and best we have ever had. Maybe decades ago in La Jolla, CA I had as good... maybe. Since we were so full we ordered 1 to split and 2 to go. The owner split the Baklava for us and gave us two pastries and two coffees as well. All were excellent. We ended up having the left overs for dinner and still had hummus, babaganouj, baklava and a pasty left over. We both highly recommend Middle Eastern Bakery. In fact she was so impressed she already broadcast the place to all her friends. I want to thank all the people at Check Please Arizona since if they hadn't reviewed it we would never have found it as it is quite a drive for us.

What a terrific experience we had at the Middle Eastern Bakery and Deli! The service was wonderful and they accommodated my gluten free needs with many choices. They have the most amazing gluten free pitas, breads, hand pies, pita chips, and even gluten free BAKLAVA! FYI, get their lemonade because it's amazing. The owner was very helpful and also taught me about some of the unique beads that they have and the purpose and culture behind it. This place is also a mini market so although it feels a bit tight when ordering, there's plenty of room at the tables. The whole place is thoroughly decorated and there is authentic art on the wall, some of it 100 years old! It was a wonderful meal and a memorable experience.

This review is 2 years over due. Two years ago we traveled to Phoenix and discovered the Middle Eastern Bakery. We recently visited Phoenix this month- April 2021. It is hands down the best middle eastern food we have ever had (and that’s saying a lot from New Yorkers). The gyro platter, lemonade, pita and baklava (especially the birds’ nest) is to die for. In a one week trip, we visited about 6 times and took food in our carry-on bags. While the food is exceptional, the best reason to go is for the owners. Isam and his wife started Middle Eastern Bakery ages ago, and their smiling faces will make you feel immediately at home. Anyone who is lucky enough to share a coffee and baklava will surely do what we do—- recommend Middle Eastern Bakery to everyone who goes within a 200 miles radius of Phoenix.

So yum! Typical deli style- a store with dry, refrigerated and fresh counter goods as well as a dine in table section. Authentic food and friendly, neighborhood atmosphere with the staff (on my third visit my two month old was crying, and one of the staff asked if they could hold the baby so I could eat ) I go any chance I get!! Also love the fresh feta and olives you can buy behind the counter.

It’s a little tough with young kids as there’s not a ton of space and lots of inventory on the shelves, but the food is so good I think it’s worth it!

The food was really well cooked and delicious. The reason for 3 stars is the service is lacking. No waiter came to acknowledge us or clean the table. We cleared it ourself while we waited. Later we learned that we had speak with the cashier to order our food. We stood in the same line as people trying to check out for their grocery purchases. There was one middle aged woman working the register and she was very slow. Each transaction took about 4 minutes. So the process to order food and pay for the bill took a long time. So do plan ahead when coming here. Understand that the food is tasty and authentic but may have to wait a while to eat your food if you order dine in.

Gluten free everything! If you have a gluten issue, this is your new favorite place! Pitas! Pies! You name it, they have a gluten free version. Absolutely incredible food! The market is small but if you are familiar with the contents, they’ll be sure to have what you like. The fact that most of their food is available frozen is fantastic too! Get some amazing take out and grab some extra frozen stuff for later in the week. The lemonade is about the greatest drink in Phoenix. The desserts in the case are incredible too! The butter cookie with the fig in the middle is my absolute favorite! Go and enjoy!

  • Catarina Macias Avalos

Loved this place! Had the Lebanese chicken which was seasoned to perfection. It came with Greek salad and pilaf which was also delicious! Their lemonade is amazing, with no sugar added, and their desserts are remarkable as well. As if their food wasn’t good enough, their service was even better. The owner was there to take our order and make recommendations all which were spot on. The vibe in the bakery was very chill and allowed us to sit and visit for a couple of hours. Would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for delicious food and even better ambiance.

I visited the Middle Eastern Bakery and Deli to buy baklava for a Moroccan-themed New Years Eve party. The owner of the store was so friendly and welcoming, and they arranged the baklava beautifully. I also got a large pack of pita bread (not technically Moroccan, but it looked so good) to serve at the party. Everything was delicious and got rave reviews. I will definitely return for other items.

The food was prepared fast and tasted good, but I wouldn’t say this is the best Mediterranean food. The rise was really runny and did not have a lot of flavor. The beef shawarma was cooked way too much. The reason for my 3 star review is because of the food taste and food quality. It was my first time here

This was definitely a great experience. Went here for lunch and holy smokes was it DELICIOUS. This mom and pop market makes their own honey rose water lemonade which I made from all fresh ingredients. Their pita bread is also homemade and as soft as can be. I had the gluten free pitas with baba ganoush. I have celiac and did not have any reaction despite my brain telling me I would because they did not taste gluten free. I live in Gilbert but will find a reason to be on that side of town to go there again. I'll bring a cooler and plan to stock up my freezer.

Another favorite, I love how sweet and kind the owners are. The food is good, fresh, they have wonderful desserts, like baklava, and fresh baked pita bread! The lemonade is soo delicious, best lemonade! Made with honey not sugar, rose water, and orange blossom water And a cute little grocery store well stocked with spices, olives, coffee, rose, orange blossom and other waters for cooking, frozen pita breads, deserts. Lots of goodies!

  • Ricky Aranda

Very good babaganoush, baklava, , hummus (various types =green jalapeno, and red bell pepper versions, as well as regular garlic salt hummus), beets and turnip probiotic type of take home snacks, including frozen hummus., babaganoush, etc. My main meal is the chicken gyro or chicken shawarma sandwich/ wrap. The flavor is very light and humbling (I don't know how it makes me feel that way , but it's definitely comforting and healthy).

The Owner is very friendly. He showed us around and explained some of the items to us. The food was so delicious and authentic! Portions were very generous. The Lemonade is homemade and very yummy! I also had the Arabic coffee. Which was very good. I would recommend this restaurant. It was nice to try some genuine Middle Eastern food and nice to have another choice of food besides a typical restaurant chain.

Fresh pita and hummus is amazing and the Tabouli is fabulous! I really enjoy the bulk olive selection! My absolute favorite is the Award winning. Orange blossom honey Lemonade!

Pictures show the coffee and baklava I had today but nonetheless this is an amazing place! My girlfriend and I come here all the time, the owners are very friendly and their customer service is exceptional! The food is always prepared with love, cooked right, and has nice presentation! I sincerely recommend coming here, especially if you’re into Middle Eastern or Mediterranean food.

My family and I have been coming here for the past 30 years! We have always had great service, delicious food and warm hospitality. I LOVE their homemade fresh lemonade and their Jordan almonds. You must try their scrumptious baklava. This family owned business has been in our community and will always be here despite broken windows or hate. Life Live Smiling :-)

We've been coming to Middle Eastern Bakery since the 90's. The food is outstanding, prices are very reasonable, and the staff is super nice. Our favorite foods here are all freshly made: tabbouleh, fatayers filled with either spinach or meat, grape leaves, hummus, and pita bread. Though we have to drive from the East Valley to get here, it's well worth the trip!

Everyone working here is super nice. The food is amazing. Great gluten free food and the staff knows exactly what is and isn't gluten free. They also sell amazing gluten free pita bread frozen. They even have multiple sizes. They make tabouli with quinoa so it's gluten free. All around an amazing place! Also the pilaf was really good.

This middle eastern restaurant is so wonderful, and feels like home. The owner is so unbelievably generous and kind, and so caring. He really makes sure you have had a positive experience. The food is absolutely delicious & true to Middle Eastern traditions!! I love this place and will be coming back frequently. Absolutely recommend!

i was last here when i lived in the valley around 2005. i was in the neighborhood and looking for a middle eastern market. i had the most delightful visit with the lady running the business and some of the kitchen staff. a bit of everything, but especially amazing smells, wonderful treats, and delightful folks working there.

I have never liked a lemonade in my life until I tried the rose water lemonade here it's so frkn bomb!! Also the food is AMAZING. The fact that a middle Eastern place care about gluten free people is insane. Definitely will keep going. P.s. I've been going to this place for over 4 years and never once disappointed me.

The service is phenomenal. I felt like I was part of their family when I came in. Their Pita bread is baked fresh there, and you can taste the difference. Their shawarma was alright. I have had better, but they knocked it out of the park with the overside baklava portions and hospitality.
