"Visited the library many times with my adult son who has autism and found it a nice pleasant experience until recently I went to the toilet for less than 1 minute and as I was washing my hands a lady worker barged into the toilet asking me if I'm a carer for the young man reading by himself"
"This library can be noisy, but I think people need to look at the timetable and go during times when they are not hosting young children or groups if they do not like it"
"Don’t get me wrong it’s a wonderful library! But when I went there to study, it was loud with screaming kids running past me constantly, the cafe was also noisey with the coffee machine and people talking at above average levels and also a girl in front of me talking very loudly on a Skype chat"
"Loudest library I have ever been to"
"Poorly laid out and overall very noisy for a library"
Visited the library many times with my adult son who has autism and found it a nice pleasant experience until recently I went to the toilet for less than 1 minute and as I was washing my hands a lady worker barged into the toilet asking me if I'm a carer for the young man reading by himself.?? I thought their must of been some issue with my boy... I told her I'm his dad and what's wrong? Was told nothing's wrong but in the future you need to basically ask for permission even to go to the restroom?? My son is so quiet and polite I still don't know what the issue was..we both felt discriminated because my son has a intellectual disability. It still hurts thinking about it..Never had a problem at Brighton library or Knox library who treat us as equal members of the community.
This library can be noisy, but I think people need to look at the timetable and go during times when they are not hosting young children or groups if they do not like it. This information was made available to me when I called in advance. I found the library to be a nice place to study, maybe it could do with a few more spaces for laptops. One of the staff members did say they are looking at putting more power points in when I asked where I could find a desk with one so they obviously have intentions to improve that aspect. I did notice more laptops being used than the available computers. The cafe staff were so lovely too and their sandwhiches and coffee were good quality. Their service was welcoming and helpful. Nice place
Don’t get me wrong it’s a wonderful library! But when I went there to study, it was loud with screaming kids running past me constantly, the cafe was also noisey with the coffee machine and people talking at above average levels and also a girl in front of me talking very loudly on a Skype chat. It was hard to focus and I had to put my head phones on to block out the sound and even that didn’t really help. It’s good people are using the library but I was under the impression that it’s common curtesy to remain respectful when it came to noise level. Maybe introduce quiet study places or rooms, like they have at the State Library in Melbourne? But other than that, I found good resources and the staff were very helpful and lovely.
Loudest library I have ever been to. When staff are talking loudly it creates encouragement for people at the library to do the same. Doesn’t feel like a library just a noisy common area. You can’t sit at the front of the library as there are noisy staff and elderly talking extremely loud as well as people on mobile phones, and you can’t sit at the back to study either since there are noisy screaming children. Can you please allocate an area that is a consistent noise appropriate level ? School holidays or not, it’s frustrating for someone needing a quite space that you wouldn’t expect since it’s a ‘library’ ?. Won’t be attending again until this noise issue is sorted out
Poorly laid out and overall very noisy for a library. Poor parking availability because of large range of shopping and entertaining venues nearby. Large fiction range but very poor non-fiction stock. Great coffee shop in-house. Large user base of elderly retirees (who take the seating for their coffees and cake) and young mothers and their children who have singing and games’ needs who create and contribute to the noise - not surprising given demographics of the area. Seems to function as a subsidised entertainment hive rather than traditional library.
My husband was looking for a book he loved and read many years ago. He couldn't remember the name of the book or author but he knew the story. So the search began Mornington Librarian found the title of this book and name of the author. We had a call from the library to say they purchased the book and it would be on borrowbox. What a wonderful effort from the ladies on the customer service desk Congratulations ladies for showing how much you care for customers. My husband can now read this book he loved many years ago. Thank you again
Excellent. Great selection of books, cds and dvds. Great coffee when coffee is open. My home away from home! Update April 2022... still a great place to be, whether for a read and/or a coffee, have lunch or morning tea from a great range of cheesey comestibles, either hot or cold. Update July 2022: still the same although for some reason Council got rid of the Cafe, which was a vital part of the library community. Many, many thumbs down to MPS council. Very petty. Still the same, and NO café!
Mornington library staff are always very very helpful and friendly I’m Mandy Wood and have been a patron of this library for many years and I keep coming back so your staff must be doing something right and also when I speak to a wonderful staff member on phone my enquiries are met with curiosity and professionalism Well done to each and every staff member thank you
Great library. Plenty of parking. Nice cafe and study nooks. My only complaint would be that the cafe closes literally at peak service time. The outside alfresco is shut off by 1.30 and the cafe itself closes at 2pm. Maybe consider opening later and closing later? Especially for winter as people are more late risers. Otherwise perfect library.
What a great library. The only problem was someone on their phone having a very loud conversation with no thoughts for anyone else. I suggest this should be monitored and maybe signs up regarding the use of phones.
Great facilities and an extensive catalogue of books. It's a lot more open and spacious than a lot of other libraries, and is really kid-friendly. One of the best places to sit and relax with a coffee and a book.
Well organized procedure to pick up pre ordered books also good to be able to browse again Also a thumbs up to the staff who as always were helpful and friendly Good to be back amongst books
Very friendly. Nice atmosphere. Comfortable set up for all ages. Great place for students to study. Love listening to the parents read to their toddlers. Nice place to be!
Any books covering philosophy are nowhere to be found. The council overall lack any interest in community facilities. Small business boys club. Very lazy no imagination.
Quite literally one of the loudest library's, staff and the cafe make so much noise. Staff allow children to sprint and scream. Not your typical 'quiet' library.
This library has the most amazing friendly and helpful staff. They offer a huge range of activities and it is wonderful to see it being used by all ages.
Great place but a little noisy. Other than that it is fantastic. I love the new self borrow places and how they are dotted around the library.
A great range of Anglican history books that I have really enjoyed and the staff are always up for philosophical discussions
Great coffee and eats. Good selection of mags and dvds. Comfortable chairs to while away the hours with an absorbing book.
They can nearly always access publications from around the globe. It just takes a bit longer.
A great library. Friendly atmosphere, good facilities, and a neat little cafe to boot.
Great place do study and read with a cup of tea! Wide selection of books to read, too!
Great atmosphere, cafe on site, plenty of desks. Great community resource!
I don't use it much , get to read the paper for free & good coffee too
Another place I walked past. Google, you amaze me with your accuracy.
ample parking.. Lots of new releases on shelves - good covid tracing.
Great range of books, and they will try buy in new ones you want.
The best library I have ever had the pleasure of using. Thanks!
Nice little cafe inside while you enjoy some of their books.
A great place to relax while having a coffee and muffin.
